Is anyone having problems with your phone randomly shutting off?
Does anyone have any solutions?
Sent from my DROIDX using XDA App
Ive had maybe one or two random soft reboots happen since getting my phone.
I haven't had one in quite a bit now though.
Really mine shuts off atleast twice a day

You using a task killing app? If so how aggressive are you with it? Seems like task killers affect this phone WAAAAY more than on my Nexus One.
Random shut off for me = once a week
Yes I have it but ive never played with the settings just downloaded the app and went on from there.

Also my droid x usually freezes alot when I only have 2 apps running. Have any tips? I've only dropped the phone once but its was about 1 foot away from the ground need help!!

Mine doesn't freeze but will reboot twice a week our so on its own

I have had this happen to me twice. I was more on the line of thinking that it is an app that I installed. I hadnt thought it was the task killer set to killing an app that would do this. I will turn off Auto Kill and also do an inventory of apps that I installed since I noticed the shutdowns.

If I bring my phone to verizon what would they say?

I used a task killer on my Nexus One because old habits die hard. So when I moved to the Droid X I still had this habit. I quit using ATK this last Friday and havent had a single glitch or reboot since.
Could this be the case for others with reboot issues? Maybe, Maybe not.
If you have a task killer installed try uninstalling it for 2-3 days and see what happens.
I have never used a task killer but I had the same issue. A factory reset nor an .sbf restore from a brick changed it. My new phone just shipped yesterday as a replacement.

I was having atleast 2 reboots a day and when I deleted my task killer last week I haven't had any problems my phone is actually faster with out it. I think the task killer stops programs to make your phone run effectively.

Im bringing my phone to verizon today and see what they tell me thanks alot guys

I have been having the same issue. My phone will just rest to the animation screen not the motorola M. At first I thought it was chomp sms causing it cause a few times as sms texts would come in it reset. So I removed chomp but issue was still there so I wondered if set cpu was the issue cause I am ROOTED. So I remove that. Issue is still there. I done two factory resets and no help.
I do not see this being a hardware issue...... Tho if it is please someone enlighten me....
Reason is if it is software then I can wait til 2.2 or custom rom...
Please any help or insight would be great. My exchange period with verizon is ruining out. Don't want to return a item with proper hardware.
Please assist thank you.

Any help at all?

I haven't ever used a task killer on the x, and still had the same issue. It got slowly worse, up to 2 or 3 reboots and 2 or 3 freezes (battery pull required) per day. Verizon shipped me out a new phone, and I just got it yesterday.
edit: the speaker's a good bit better, too. Not great, but definitely distinctly louder than my original one.
Any idea if I was to un root it if it would matter? Or if rooting did cause this... Is the damage done then?

Maybe this might be the issue

Hi guys. I was on the Motorola Droid X page, under owner support, and came across this:
"The battery charger shipped with this device is a high rate charger specifically designed for your DROID X.
Other chargers might take longer to charge your battery, cause your calls to fail during charging, or cause your phone to continuously power cycle."
I know that I had been using my BB Storm 2's charger with my DX since they both use the same connectors, unaware that the charger actually made a difference. I also noticed the shut-down/restart issue, and had called VZW about it twice, prompting the tech to send me out a new one. I only found this tidbit by chance afterwards. Maybe myself and others might be doing the same, and unknowingly creating a power issue...just my $0.02

I believe the site is: motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/48599/p_country_code/US
My xoom is "freezing". The only way to make it unfreeze is to hit the power button the turn it back on. I found it happens when holding it at cretin angles.
Has anyone else had this problem?
really, no one but me has had this problem?

More details are needed. Are you rooted? Are you on a custom ROM? When did it start? What was the last app you downloaded to your device? When exactly is it freezing up? (Example: When opening email, browser etc)
When you reboot how long does it take to freeze up? More details dude.
No its a hardware problem. I just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem. I was rooted.. non rooted... it does not mater. It is just broken. I just wanted to know if it was a common problem... i guess its not. Moto is sending me a new one..

It's not necessarily a hardware problem. The software is what flips the screen to landscape/portrait as a result of the hardware signals, so it could be either which is why he was asking for your software specs.
Sorry. I am on stock 3.2.1 and it is doing it and getting worse. It did it on all the Roms I used (all 4) as well rooted stock rom. So I'm pretty sure its hardware.

I just received an email invitation from Motorola. I'm not sure if it's for 4.2 or not. I am hesitant as I do not want to relock the bootloader.
Edit... Sounds like it's impossible to relock the bootloader.
They can't re lock it.

So that means that I couldn't participate even if I wanted to? I know I could restore the phone to stock thus restoring the recovery to stock.
I just got the same invite for the soak... I joined it to see what's up.. Told them it was rooted and I will restore to stock .. No clue what the update is .. Sort of came out of the blue no?

I have heard that it is possible to relock it, but it would also lock the developer edition devices so it "shouldn't" be an issue.
It's just a maintenance release no software update. The boot loader can't be relocked because once u unlock it it blows the bootloader QFuse. Once that is blown it can't be reset by software.

You won't find anything on Google except droidlife posting about moto sending out invites. It's a private network of people that sign up for soak test for motorola software before it is sent ota to devices

I was answering questions on the survey to participate and they said it was such a minimal update and to just avoid the hassle of un rooting.

I registered my phone on the moto site and indicated I would like to beta test new software.
Very interested to see what this update is going to bring, would like to see them fix the stability and performance issues in the stock rom.
What stability and performance issues of the stock rom?

You don't have to relock the bootloader, just reverting to stock is fine. Also, on consumer devices unlocked via hack, the exploit might get fixed in the update AND you don't know the unlock code and will have to be rooted to wipe the relock token. So don't relock there (besides it's not as simple to do so anyway, FXZ must be flashed in between )

Wouldn't it be amazing if it was 4.3 like what was just leaked for the s4? A man can dream. I got the invite, but I'm sad to say I don't feel it's with the effort coming from where I am now. Stable carbon, tweaked just how I like it, or work to revert to an older android version with all the associated limits. If it was 4.3 I'd be doing it, but 4.2? I'm really sorry moto, but I've been there for a while now
Performance and stability issues on the stock ROM? Several Google Apps (magazines and books) even if never used cause the phone to become near unresponsive. I disabled those two and have had no issues since. Every few days my phone no longer can send or receive text messages and when I reboot suddenly all of them go through. It has gotten to the point that I have a cron on a server to send me text messages so that I at least know every morning if I have the issue again.
Also, Smart Actions gets into a loop where I keep seeing it claim that my WiFi based action is being triggered every few minutes even when I am sitting still. This seems to drain the hell out of my battery.

Damn.. Forgot to update my moto profile after getting my HD. Missed out in the soak.
-- Android: It's a UNIX thing. You wouldn't understand.
Mod's move to correct location if this is in the wrong area. Sorry noob here
So I rooted my phone using PwnMyMoto. Last night a update was placed on the phone, looks like a software update. Now phone is in boot loop.
My question is, the xt1080 has no external SD, so if I factory reset (I have about 10-15 seconds once my screen comes up before it reboots) will i loose everything on the phone? Or does the it still recognize that there is a kind of faux SD and stays away from it?
Few more details > it was the 12.7.7 update., recovery option from Volume Down + Power doesn't do anything, just reboots the phone again.
I know this is a noob question but I'm clasping at straws to get this fixed. I have about 1200 photos some are backed up, the most recent are not. If I could get the photos then I'll go with just a full reset.
Any help appreciated

No, the Droid MAXX is a newer phone. It appears to be the consumer version of the Droid MAXX Developer edition. It's also about $500 cheaper.
It's also known as XT1080 as opposed to the Droid X that has MB810.
Also the MAXX comes with KitKat installed.

Exactly the point I was making over 8 months ago, thanks for restating my point in a more detailed post.
I'm running stock rooted and since day one with this phone, the Simpsons game has been choppy and crashes often. I've sent quiet a bit of reports once it crashes, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?

Mine is choppy (low frame rate) occasionally - it was more noticeable during the recent halloween event. Seems ok now since the thanksgiving update.
It does crash quite frequently though - maybe one out of every three or four sessions.
I play daily and it crashes at least once every time I play it. Used to have sgs4 I337 running gpe Roms and it wouldn't work at all. Warrantied a bad headset speaker and here I am. The new sgs4 AT&T sent me had a locked boot loader and no root android 4.3. I didn't want a galaxy phone so sold it for 400 bought the nexus 5.
Level 37 now. Same as zulugod stated was laggy with Halloween update, better now.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
In 37, it does have fps lag and crashes like six times before I can assign everyone to tasks

Every time it crashes I send the report. So I'm sure someone will eventually take a look and issue a small patch.
