Motorola invitation to test a new upgrade - RAZR HD General

I just received an email invitation from Motorola. I'm not sure if it's for 4.2 or not. I am hesitant as I do not want to relock the bootloader.
Edit... Sounds like it's impossible to relock the bootloader.

They can't re lock it.

So that means that I couldn't participate even if I wanted to? I know I could restore the phone to stock thus restoring the recovery to stock.

I just got the same invite for the soak... I joined it to see what's up.. Told them it was rooted and I will restore to stock .. No clue what the update is .. Sort of came out of the blue no?

I have heard that it is possible to relock it, but it would also lock the developer edition devices so it "shouldn't" be an issue.

It's just a maintenance release no software update. The boot loader can't be relocked because once u unlock it it blows the bootloader QFuse. Once that is blown it can't be reset by software.

You won't find anything on Google except droidlife posting about moto sending out invites. It's a private network of people that sign up for soak test for motorola software before it is sent ota to devices

Where and why you received this email? I'm from Brazil, would be here too? Just a question ...

I was answering questions on the survey to participate and they said it was such a minimal update and to just avoid the hassle of un rooting.

I registered my phone on the moto site and indicated I would like to beta test new software.

Very interested to see what this update is going to bring, would like to see them fix the stability and performance issues in the stock rom.

What stability and performance issues of the stock rom?

You don't have to relock the bootloader, just reverting to stock is fine. Also, on consumer devices unlocked via hack, the exploit might get fixed in the update AND you don't know the unlock code and will have to be rooted to wipe the relock token. So don't relock there (besides it's not as simple to do so anyway, FXZ must be flashed in between )

Wouldn't it be amazing if it was 4.3 like what was just leaked for the s4? A man can dream. I got the invite, but I'm sad to say I don't feel it's with the effort coming from where I am now. Stable carbon, tweaked just how I like it, or work to revert to an older android version with all the associated limits. If it was 4.3 I'd be doing it, but 4.2? I'm really sorry moto, but I've been there for a while now

Performance and stability issues on the stock ROM? Several Google Apps (magazines and books) even if never used cause the phone to become near unresponsive. I disabled those two and have had no issues since. Every few days my phone no longer can send or receive text messages and when I reboot suddenly all of them go through. It has gotten to the point that I have a cron on a server to send me text messages so that I at least know every morning if I have the issue again.
Also, Smart Actions gets into a loop where I keep seeing it claim that my WiFi based action is being triggered every few minutes even when I am sitting still. This seems to drain the hell out of my battery.

I have an issue Also when using Google Play Music - phone become extremely unresponsive and laggs, music played with noises. Even if RAM is free. (May be problems appeared after touching Equalizer settings)
This thing is terrible.

Does your tablet reboots a lot???

My tablet seems to reboot quick a lot even when reading emails. I had it stock for a while but as you all know stocks firmware sucked. I move to a unofficial AOKP ROM which was okay but still reboots. Them I try one of the stock rooted ROMs with optimized scripts same issue..now I'm on Cm9 stable realise and I still get them. I am ready to sell it or just throw it on the trash ..

Had the same issue......reboots every 10 minutes on stokck rom as well on custom.
Brought it back to the store and got a new one.........this one had some dead pixels CRAP!!
Again back to the store and had another one wich i tested there...
Got it now for a week and runs just fine, yesterday rooted the device but i will stay on stock firmware for now.
Can't find a good custom rom yet......
Well that sucks for me cuz I been rooted for a while and I don't think Asus is going to swap me for a new tablet since warranty is voided

Only unlocking the bootloader voids the warranty (and this because they keep your serial number in a special database). If you're rooted you should still have warranty.

This phone is too good at it makes me bored....

So I sit here bored on a Thursday night and think to myself 'oh I'll just flash a ROM on my moto x' then I realize that if I flash a ROM I will actually lose features that I like instead of gain them. I used to spend a few hours a week flashing Roms but now I don't want to. So what are all the other flash-a-holics doing with their free time now?
Sent from my XT1056 using Tapatalk
Get a job? A hobby other than flashing Roms? A girlfriend ? Play a sport ? Etc etc etc

Not having to flash ROMs is the reason I got the Moto X.
get root, install xposed installer, install motoxposed and other great modules, enjoy the near stock experience with all the benefits of a good rom.
Buy a Nexus 5 to flash on those nights! I may have retired my GNex but its still got some development life yet!

Yo can try installing Kit Kat!!!
no need to flash any custom rom at least while when they port all unique features.
Haha that's my goal this weekend. To try getting a 4.4 ROM to work on the sprint version. Last night I spent the night installing Ubuntu and everything I need to start building roms

I will say that the Moto X is such a clean stable phone in which I don't have to require much change. The changes I want are simple and easily handled by using the XPosed Installer. This phone has truly cured my need to tweak and mod. It gets great battery life without the need for custom kernels or governors.
I do still have a Nexus 7 (2013) which I am using to enjoy KitKat on, but now I never have to worry about my phone crashing, or bugging out.

It is refreshing, not having to constantly tinker with my phone. I basically run my business from my phone... Can't count how many times a accidentally lost texts, photos, app data etc... Because I was flashing in a hurry or because of a bad nandroid backup. Those days are gone... And I don't miss it.

Does anyone else not have the official 4.4 update?

Since the release of 4.4 for the Nexus 7 I've been constantly hitting the update button on my beloved tablet and I have yet to see the coveted update. Is there anyone else that shares this same fate? Am I being impatient?
I know I could root and I've thought about it, actually but I really wanted to see how long I could refrain from crack-flashing every single thing I own. But I might not have a choice since I just read that the Moto X for Verizon is now getting the update.
The fact that any device from Verizon is getting an update before a Nexus is making me nervous that maybe something is amiss with my tablet...
Nothing for me yet.. just updated my MotoX an hour ago though. A Nexus 7 update today would be like having the most awesome Christmas ever...

.. but no update here for my Nexus 7 Wifi...
No update for me as well (both N7 adn N4)
No update - UK WIFI Nexus 7 16GB
No update for my n7/13 or n4 (both stock unlocked) but I had sideloaded 4.4 to my rooted n7/12 and received the ota KRT16S last night. I flashed stock recovery and had super su (1.72B) set to protect root, all went well and I didn't loose root. Flashed back to twrp with flashify.

No update neither here - Nexus 7 WIFI IT 16 GB
If you like to stream flash videos (or stream NBA games, etc), watch out. Kit Kat breaks it because apparently they've updated the web engine which doesn't support flash at all.
No update for me either. Nexus 7 2012 32gb

Seriously, if you really can't wait, grab the OTA off Google's servers. There's no need to complain when you can have it right now.
Is it possible to do that even if my tablet isn't rooted?
If so please can you let me know how?
Thanks in advance

Well I, the OP, have officially gotten the update. I have to say though, that it took a lot longer than I expected for a Nexus device.

Simpsons Tapped Out

I'm running stock rooted and since day one with this phone, the Simpsons game has been choppy and crashes often. I've sent quiet a bit of reports once it crashes, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?

Mine is choppy (low frame rate) occasionally - it was more noticeable during the recent halloween event. Seems ok now since the thanksgiving update.
It does crash quite frequently though - maybe one out of every three or four sessions.
I play daily and it crashes at least once every time I play it. Used to have sgs4 I337 running gpe Roms and it wouldn't work at all. Warrantied a bad headset speaker and here I am. The new sgs4 AT&T sent me had a locked boot loader and no root android 4.3. I didn't want a galaxy phone so sold it for 400 bought the nexus 5.
Level 37 now. Same as zulugod stated was laggy with Halloween update, better now.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
In 37, it does have fps lag and crashes like six times before I can assign everyone to tasks

Ok glad it's not just me. I'm hoping in the next play store update, They'll fix it or something.

Verizon Moto X (XT1060) Android 5.1.1 update is LIVE now..

Well, it just happened!
The 5.1.1 update is live, for real. The software version is 222.21.39
Also packs in Stagefright fix and some other improvements. What matters is ANDROID 5.1.1 LOLLIPOP !!

There's no need to open a new thread if there's a related one already.

Downloading the first of the two updates. Will update regarding if it ends up being seemless or if anything strange arises during the process. My handset is about as stock/vanilla as they come since I haven't attempted any of the ridiculous lengths it has traditionally taken to root/unlock this phone.
Update 1: Took an additional restart to get a successfully installed statement for the stagefright/LP prep update. Currently downloading the LP OTAD
Update 2: First startup was a little long but expected since it was a new rom. Everything going well so far. One odd brief issue where Google play services rolled back to a previous release and spammed warning messages but it corrected itself.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
Any reason not to upgrade?
I remember people were saying with some of the early versions and non OTA software there being an issue with Wave to Wake
As well as a hit to battery life because of Lollipop not doing a great job of utilizing the X8 CPU.
Wave wake doesn't work. As far as I know, it was a big that was never supposed to work with KitKat.
Battery life seems up to par with KitKat for me.
Lol sorry moto, but its kinda late for you I just switch to Nexus 5 last week
I checked both internal system update and Moto Device Manager... nothing.
I am using DE though, not regular Verizon XT1060.
