[Q] Battery in wallet? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've recently bought a pack that contained 2 spare batteries(nfc) and a battery charger for £20. I've come up with the idea that one battery will stay at home charging, one will be in my phone and the other will stay in my wallet in case the one in the phone runs out.
I'm just calling all battery experts to ask if this is safe? Wallets get get very hot and the battery instructions say don't put in hot spaces such as on a sun lit window.
Thanks

While the battery is in phone, doesn't it gets hot?
Those instructions are against the battery's purpose

Battery life gone crazy

okay i need help i have been been jumping from rom to rom trying "EVERY" fix that its on this site trying to fix this issue flashing kernal after kernal but nothing is working i thought it was my battery but i brought it to a sprint tech and he said the battery tested good so now i'm really lost okay here it goes My battery will drain from 100% down to 80% within 5 minutes and usually will be dead within 2 1/2 hours after being off of the charger with moderate usage such as calls text and checking email. and then the craziest **** happen to me when i was trying the htc fix posted here http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...&highlight=htc the phone will hit 0% and shutdown; I'll place it on the charger (AC wall charger, not the usb adapter) until the orange LED stops blinking; I'll turn the phone on and once it's fully booted it will read 53%......all of this within 5mins of going dead! WTF!!! have the most recent radios/PRI/PRL with this rom stock no tweaks and before like 2 week ago ny battery life was great i was running decks newest but i flash the flyer express and the rainy day rom and ever since battery life went crazy
Have you tried a different battery?
Nah that's my next move but bye the tech at Sprint saying my battery was good figured I wasn't the battery

How on earth can they test that? Ph wait its showing full charge it must be good :-/ anyway how old is it? Mine started showing its ass after about a year and became in bearable latley. SBC never worked well after the first charge for me it wouldn't charge unless I flashed something else then back. Weird I know. Anyway I bought 2 extended batteries off eBay and it came with an external charger. My silicone cover fits it without a battery cover so it's hardly noticeable. In the morning before work I grab the spair and last all day now streaming the radio. Oh btw just in case anyone else streams just as much as I do, sprint WILL send you a letter if too much of it is from roaming. And no I have stock prls.

I have 3 EVO's in the house so I have bought about 6 batteries off of ebay with these small dock chargers just to keep on hand. When a battery is getting low, I just shut down the phone and insert a freshly charged one. They are really cheap, $3 or $4 each. Some of them come from US sellers so they arrive in a couple of days. They seem to work just as good and last just as long as the ones supplied by HTC, probably made in the same factories in China.
I should have just bought several of those instead of the extended but I kinda have gotten used to the silicon case holding my battery in. When its swap time there is no prying fingernails under the cover. And the camera seems to he more protected.

How do I safely charge n4 for the first time?

I tried googling this but couldn't get an accurate answer I'll be getting this phone soon so this will be the first phone I'm actually gonna play safe cuz all my previous phones including my HTC amaze I just used the phone while charging which caused all my phones to have about 2 hrs battery life lol thanks in advance

You really shouldn't be doing anything heavy while the phone is recharging. If you're simply texting or browsing it should be okay. There are no methods on how to safely charge a phone. Just charge it whenever you need to and there's no need to calibrate the battery.

The only safe way to charge your phone the first time is to charge it using an extension lead into the garden. Dig a hole at least 2 metres deep and sink a lead box into it. Drill a small hole big enough to get the power lead through then put your phone in the lead box, connect the charger then seal the box with a welding torch.
Fill the hole in with more concrete then build a concrete structure 6m x 6m on top.
Finally plug the extension lead into a power socket in the house, wait EXACTLY 191 hours and your phone will be ready to use, just dig it up and enjoy. :good:

[Q] Non-Removable Battery novice idea

Hi Guys,
I'm new to the LG G2; so new I don't even have it yet. It's coming from Sprint soon to my doorstep. This will be my first non-removable battery device so I'm thinking and thought about this: What if while the phone was on the charger, there was some kind of a mod to bypass the battery and go straight to powering the phone? Then, it wouldn't degrade the battery and the lifespan of the battery would increase. Driving in our cars or sitting at home would just stay plugged in and not wast battery longevity. Pie-in-the-sky? Probably so, but I had to just put it out here to find out what folks that certainly know more that I, have to say.
Every modern piece of technology does that already.
It's not that charger that is causing damage to the battery. It's the charging itself.
Yes, sir, that is what I am saying also. So, what I am wondering is, is there a way to stop the charger from charging the battery, but still let it supply power to the device so the device works - basically bypassing the battery?
Idk i still charge my battery over night.

The phones coming out now-a-days sometimes have some work-arounds implemented to help alleviate this condition. Some of them will switch off charging at, say 95-99% of capacity instead of charging to completely full. Others will charge to a certain high value and then switch to battery only for the first 5% or so and then start charging again.
Also, FYI, the back cover is removable on this phone if you pry where the hole created by removing the microSIM is. Supposedly it comes off rather easily. Now I know removable back and removable battery are two different things but it is at least looking up!

Battery/Charging Issues (Nexus 4)

I am having problems with my Nexus 4.
History, replaced screen after phone was knocked out of my hand, probably damaged battery while trying to remove it, but everything worked once it was back together.
Screen broke again, and while working on that, I noticed the battery had swollen so ordered a replacement of eBay.
All back together now, but.
1 Phone does not state "charging" when connected to AC or USB charging, although the battery icon has the lightning bolt in it and the %charge does not drop while messing with the phone.
2 Phone does charge using wireless, but slowly, and status swaps back and forth between charging and not charging and the % will move from e.g. 40% to 35% as it says charging or not charging.
3 USB works for connection to PC.
I charged the new battery overnight, wirelessly. It got to about 90%, so slow charging, but seems to work. Phone is usable, everything seems to work. I connected it to PC and was able to use Nexus Root Toolkit to backup, the reset the phone, no change in charging behavior.
Booting into safe mode made no difference either. So it seems it is not software/firmware/apps that are causing the problem?
I guess next step is to open it up again and remove and remake all connections and check contact posts? Should I order a third battery? Or a new motherboard?
I searched here, but could not find anyone with the same problem.
Any and all help appreciated. Thanks in advance, guys.
Opening and rechecking connections and coating with contact cleaner has made no difference.
Phone typically needs Volume Down and Power button pressed to get it to start, then Power Button to select start option, then seems to run okay.
Battery still not reaching 100% charged, generally 70-80% after a full night off, using wireless (my Nexus 5 charges happily on same charger).
Ordered a cheap battery from China, not really expecting that to be the problem, but no other clues or suggestions for now.
Any update?
My battery is ****e now, lasts 3-4 hours and I need to turn off the phone and charge. It takes 4+ hours to charge when switched on. Charging via the PC you can forget it, it drains the battery if anything!
I'm thinking of buying the battery on eBay and doing my research on how to fix myself.
Phone not switching on and Battery issues
Hi,
I have been facing quick drainage of my Nexus 4 battery since past few months. Recently I had been keeping it on charge almost the whole day, and a full charge would last only 2-3 hours! Further, the charging was taking a lot of time too.
Today, my phone had already switched off due to low battery when I put it on charger. After the white charging icon appeared for a few seconds, the phone wasn't charging at all. I have tried 4 different chargers, but to no avail.
Can someone help me? Is there a guide on how to change the battery?
Any help and urgent help appreciated!

It's possible some hardware was damaged when you took apart and put back together your phone. The USB board is a possibility, as is the back cover itself. These parts are pretty inexpensive, if you want to try buying a replacement, but that's just a shot in the dark.

Buy a new battery. Li-ion batteries are only good for a few hundred cycles or so (~500 cycles is the expected lifetime), and the N4 isn't exactly the best in battery life, so you can reach the point where your battery turns to crap within a year or so (or less).
Go to ifixit.com and look at the teardown. All you need to replace the battery is a T5 TORX driver (for the screws at the bottom), something thin and plastic (like a guitar pick or a plastic knife - they do make professional tools for this) to pry the back cover off, a tiny phillips screwdriver (like for eyeglasses) for the battery screws, and something to pry the old battery off of the adhesive holding it in. Double sided cellophane tape works fine for keeping the new battery in. When prying the cover off, go slowly. A little at a time, don't rush or force things. Or you might flex too much and crack the back glass. Don't forget to take out the SIM tray first.

Time for a new battery. See above.
My battery have started to swollen up a bit but not alot (around 1mm or less, but it is noticeable when not in a case, it can wiggle a bit from side to side but not alot at all).
I have already ordered a new battery if it is expanding more, but yet battery life is pretty good in standby but not getting more then 3hours of SOT. but since im mostly using the N4 for email's and texting its not a problem for me to get through a full day.
I'm having the exact same issue but I've never taken the phone apart. In the 20 minutes its been off charger it's dropped 11% screen off in my pocket. It also gets hot and shuts off.

That could be software/ROM related. It sounds like somethings keeping your phone going full blast instead of letting it idle.
Yup, trying going back to full stock (should always be first step if possible), and then you can go from there. If it doesn't happen, than it was a software issue, and if it still does than it is definitely a hardware issue. Best of luck.

With a swollen battery I strongly recommend you stop actively using the device. Swollen batteries can explode and that would not be good at all. I advise you to please not use the device anymore.

Disgraceful battery, used phone -- options?

Hi all,
Bought my 6P used a year ago to the day.
Recently, along with the ever-looming battery shutdown bug (32%), I've been struggling to even get an hour SoT, and can go for a short walk with 50% battery and come back with a dead phone.
Huawei refuse to do anything as I do not have original proof-of-purchase for the phone, so my only options are to do things myself or pay someone else.
What are my options here? Will a battery replacement resolve my issues? Replacement genuine batteries seem expensive, are cheap knockoffs to be trusted?
Here is my findings.
I reset my 6P and fully charged. Let it on without using it, it last at least 20 hours and still 59% power left. Then I took 3 photos and it shutdown right away.
I think it is the software issue. Replace battery won't fix it.
Bought my phone used through Swappa and had no proof of purchase, but was still able to convince Google to send me an RMA phone a few weeks ago. Accubattery said the old one had like 70% battery capacity, while the new one is reporting 103% now and my SOT is probably double. So maybe complain away to Google reps until they decide to just RMA it...
Hi, who did you contact for this? I can't find a link on Google's site.
Thanks
Buy a new battery form ebay for 9.99 and it comes with the tools needed to swap with the exception of a x-acto knife or heat gun, but you can use a hair dryer just make sure not to apply heat on the camera or you will have to replace it as well. Buy the one form seller 8-50855 which offers the battery with a temp sensor. The process takes about 20-30 minutes, but it makes a huge difference to have a new battery. Now I get 5-6 hours SoT with heavy usage with pure nexus and custom kernel(Francos) 103% health as well and no more shutting off at 25%.

Unfortunately in the UK they are harder to source.
One thing that worries me is - do you need to glue the phone back together?

they are easy to get in the uk, if you dont trust ebay, i use this company for all my spares for the nexus 6p
https://www.replacebase.co.uk/for-huawei-nexus-6p-replacement-battery-hb416683ecw-3450mah-oem/
also you dont need glue to reassemble the phone, not sure if the battery is held down but if it is, the some double sided m3 tape would do the trick.

Sound, pulled the trigger and ordered off ebay. Now to hope I don't break it taking it apart!
I may end up doing a battery swap also. I;ve had my 6P for 14 months and the battery is only at 65% of it's capacity. This is by far the worst performing battery I have ever had. I'm getting something like 2 hours of SOT. My LG G5, which I've owned longer, has held up MUCH better in the battery department.
I basically move it from charger to charger (car, desk, night stand). I was at an even this weekend and was sure to bring my battery pack to make sure it wouldn't run out of juice during the 8 hours I was there.
I treat my batteries well, and try to never let them discharge below 50% if possible.
I get 2 hours on a VERY good day!
Battery replaced, a little more hassle than it really should be, but let's see how this goes.
