[MOD]Change Boot/Shutdown Animation - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

1. Follow this guide on how to create qmg files for boot and shutdown animations.
2. Make a backup of your original samsungboot.qmg file, i just copied it to my sd card and added .original to the end so it wound up looking like this: samsungboot.qmg.original
3. Take the qmg file you created with the theme creator and rename it samsungboot.qmg and copy it to your sd card.
4. Copy the file from the sd card to /system/media and over write the original file (you made a backup right?)
5. Reboot your phone and enjoy, you will still have the att boot sound, i am going to change that today.
6. If your boot animation screws up or doesn't work, just rename your backup to the original name and copy it back over.
I made one from another boot animation i found, i didn't create it i just took the frames and created the qmg file.

sidenote: I love your avi

issue with installing gb... please help

Once i get the update flashed to the sdcard, i start in recovery and run "apply sdcard:update.zip" and i get a error message "E:signature length doesn't match EOCD marker". Then it aborts. Why is this?
Because the file is not called update.zip and most likely not on the root of your SD card. Instead of apply update.zip, choose install zip from SD card and choose it yourself
I had to rename it update minus the .zip
& also take the zip file out of the download file & just place it on the sd
sent from the DX
its def in the root folder..
unzip and put it in the root folder? what do i run when i set it in recovery?
Are you using stock recovery or clockworkmod?

[Q] Local/data or system/media for boot animation

There seems to be a differing of opinion on where to store downloads. My original is in system/media. I use root explorer. Whenever I download a new one I place it in data/local (rename old bak and new zip). This seems to erase the old one after reboot. Can I just use system/media for ALL animations and have them not erase, or is there or storage issue. I do a move/paste. Or can I do a copy/paste instead into data/local and have the original download left on the sd card.

(Solved)[Q] I can't restore my previous rom from recovery (CLK)

Hi every
I used recovery to backup my rom and after I tried another roms I decided to come back the previous one.so I copied the backup folder including all files to Sd-Card and used "restore and backup option" in recovery(CLK),but it seems it cant find any file to restore.
what should I do?
did you move the files fromthe sd card to your computer and back again? did you rename any of the folders?
remembering too taht cwm looks in 'clockwork/backup' not just backup.

of course I moved back to sd card.all files are in one folder.the name is the date and time that I made backup.I think when I copied it to sd-card renamed it to "backup".does it matter?

I didn't get what you are saying.I went to CWR and advanced\restore and backup
Cwr looks in the folder "sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2011-11-21.23.27.32/" (example date from my backup folder) so it sounds like you aren't copying the backup to the correct place.

Instalinh 7z archive ROM

Hi,
I using first time flash from MAGLDR, usualy I use NAND ROM, so anybody can help?
I extract all 7z archive files to new folder.
Set in MAGLDR services sd boot directory and select AD SD Boot.
After that I only see costum ROM image and nothing happen...
I waited 2 hours and image is still here and nothing change...
Maybe I do something wrong?
Please help
Are you trying to install NAND, SD or NativeSD? If NAND, try the guide in my sig. If SD, just place the Android folder on the root of your SD card, set it as the AD SD Dir and boot into the AD SD option in MAGLDR. If NativeSD, then I can't help sorry.

I dont know is SD or NativeSD. (what is the diference?)
But I want install this rom
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1058809
In instructions says:
How to Install
Download the ROM
Unzip using 7zip
Copy ANDROID + MIUI folders to the root of your SD card
If you are on Windows Mobile (haret) - use the rootfs+startup.txt from "_JaguarMIUI-VXX -HARET-" (UNZIP FIRST) then Click CLRCAD + HaReT
If you are on MAGLDR, Copy both files from "_JaguarMIUI-VXX MAGLDR" to you ROM FOLDER (UNZIP FIRST) then start the ROM....
First boot takes 5-10min ( Building 1 GB data.img )
Restart ( Please do It )

ANDROID + MIUI folders to the root of your SD card?
I extract all archive in one folder. What is MIUI folder? There is no folder with this name.
If you are on MAGLDR, Copy both files from "_JaguarMIUI-VXX MAGLDR" to you ROM FOLDER (UNZIP FIRST) then start the ROM....
I don't understand this part clearly..?
I'd agree with you, that guide is very confusing.
This is how I'd do it:
1. Download the latest version of the ROM
2. Unzip in 7Zip
3. Keep going into the folders until you see a bunch of files, including Haret and clrcad. Then go UP/BACK 1 folder so that you have a folder which can be copied to your SD card, and directly inside this folder are the files needed. Normally this folder will be called something like 'Android' or 'MIUI'.
4. Copy that folder to the ROOT of your SD card (so, for example, if the folder is called 'Android' the directory should be /Android)
5. Boot into MAGLDR
6. Go to Services>Boot Settings>AD SD Dir and set the AD SD Dir to be the same as the folder you copied
7. Go back to the MAGLDR menu and select 'Boot AD SD'.
I've tried to be as general as possible with these instructions, because I don't know what's actually in the zip. Hopefully you should be able to follow them. If not, then can you describe in more detail what's inside the zip and I'll be able to give you much clearer instructions.

does the unzipped 4extrecovery folder on your sdcard contain the files Haret, startup.txt etc? or just 1 folder with those files in? needs to be the first.
Also are you booting using ad sd from magldr?

Sorry, i know what went wrong, you have to change the name of the folder back to what it was originally, "4ext" or "4extr", then try to boot it.

the "4extrecovery" folder, rename it back to original name. It should have the haret etc files inside. Then navigate to that folder using ad sd dir, then boot ad sd.

OK so when I extracted the zip file don't rename the file that contains haret etc files, just copy to sd card the way it is. I was following what a video on YouTube says and when he unzipped the file it had a file 4EXTRecovery
Still have the same problem, if I don't rename the folder to 4EXTRecovery and then go to magldr the 4extreco~ file didn't show it has a different name. I'm stuck on this. Please help

Select the file with new name from ad sd dir, then boot ad sd. But you have probably tried that.
Sorry again, i was a bit confused earlier when i said i knew what the problem was
Let's get back to basics, if you switch on the phone and hold the volume down button, what info do you get on the tri-colour screen? Just to check you have hspl 2.08 installed.
Also can you post the link to the vid you used?
I have hspl 2.08, and this is the link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kn5A6TVUxeg

The video is good, hspl is good. The only thing i can think is happening is that you extract the recovery (last on list recovery_twrp2.2.2.0_leo_sd.zip) to get recovery_twrp2.2.2.0_leo_sd folder. Inside this is another folder called recovery_twrp2.2.2.0_leo_sd. Inside this is another folder called twrp2.2.2.0, this is the folder to put on sdcard. select this folder using ad sd dir. then boot using ad sd.
In ad sd dir, magldr only reads 8 characters, so it should appear on the list as twrp2.2.~
If this still fails, then it might be that magldr does not like "." character. Change the name to twrprec (not twrp2 since i think the recovery makes this folder for its own use after booting), select this folder using ad sd dir. then boot using ad sd.
I really hope this works for you

I will try to do that when I get home, I'll let you know if that fix the problem. Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.
I tried everything and same thing, I don't know what's going on.
This is how it looks when boot to magdlr, first I change the folder to 4EXTRecovery and I got this
And then change it to twrprec
this is weird.
Try switching off on the phone and trying again.
If it hangs on htc screen, use the tiny reset button under battery cover to reboot, don't pull the battery
after it reboots, go to services/dmesg to sd
look on sdcard for dmesg.txt using pc and post it here.
