Question about Carrier locked S4's bootloader status - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I just wanted to clarify my doubt.. Asking anyone who baught S4 from a carrier to confirm whether their bootloader status ? Unlockable or Not? please... if unlockable to buy a simfree otherwise on billpay:laugh:

All the devices sold have their bootloader unlocked with the exception of phones sold by AT&T and Verizon as well as specific engineering devices and some/most GT-I9505X shop/demo units.

quick way to find if you can unlock your bootloader

just tried this on phone type on dialpad *#*#7378423#*#* select service info then configeration and at the bottom of list it should tell you rooting status mine had bootloader unlock allowed:yes. hope this helps
Simfree = Unlockable
Sim Locked = Not Unlockable (by Standard method)
It seems mine unlocked~~~~thanks~~
If it's not unlocked and you want it unlocked you could look HERE
All Ive got in my configuration section is IMEI, IMEI software version, available speech codecs and working band/s

Wrong. Branded phones from a carrier are unlockable via se method.
Simlock is the reason.
No simlock = unlockable
Simlock = not unlockable via se method
I unlocked my T-Mobile branded Arc via SE method
And other guys Vodafone branded ones

According to unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
"If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked."
Hope this helps.

If you do a search you will find different providers that will offer a solution. It does involve shorting 2 pins. I did this with mine and it worked perfectly. Will try to find which website i used and post it back.

Hi guys I want to start this petition asking Samsung to take in consideration "the unlocked devices". It seems that in the recent updates Samsung relocked all devices. Please support this thread
Thanks you

Updates in what devices? Samsungs unlocked devices that have been locked are not being locked by Samsung, that would be the carriers at fault. I have an international GS3 which is completely unlocked (and running the leaked JB 4.1.1) and I have a few friends that have the Verizon GS3's and which of both are locked (both carrier and bootloader).
Since when Samsung locked GS3 i9300?

Then you bought an unlocked International carrier phone -- not the same thing as a factory unlocked phone.

Phones which are being re-locked are ones which have not been unlocked in the correct way, correct unlocked phones or real factory unlocked phones will NOT be re-locked, the simple answer to your petition is that you was cheated by your seller.
You can prove this to yourself by using Samsung Kies without the phone connected and take the option Tools/Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation, note when asked for S/N this is the S/N from the back of the phone NOT your IMEI number and the Model needs to be entered in FULL e.g. GT-I9300, this will then tell you which CSC your phone left the factory with, now from the CSC you can tell if it was carrier branded or an unbranded phone, if its from a carrier branded then 90% of the time it would be locked, but instances exist where some carrier branded phones can be supplied unlocked.
TIP: The above option in Kies is also very useful when returning your phone to service, since it does a pretty good job of removing all traces of sh1t.
You've bought an operator locked phone repackaged as unlocked. Many of those retailers do it.

Is this device can get carrier bootloader locked

I want to buy the phone from local carrier, but I wonder if the bootloader (Sony's vocabulary) can be locked, so I don't get the ROOT and ability to flash cm rom, custom kernel etc....

The bootloader comes locked, but a simple fastboot command will fix that. They're also supposed to all be carrier unlocked.

Network Unlock u8800-51

Hi,
Is there anyway to remove the network unlock of my ATT Impulse (U8800-51)? I try to flash it with different roms and it always ends up asking me for a network unlock code. I bought one on Ebay but it does not work. Thanks

How does an upgrade of firmware just SIM unlock a phone?
Can anyone else confirm this?

Huawei releases general versions, not specific ones for carriers like Samsung does. So when you flash it it doesn't include your carrier lock information. Just flashing B512(is an international version) over another BXX will unlock the phone.

If your bootloader is not unlocked and you have no custom recovery, then I doubt that you will be able to flash any Verizon ROM. Unless you have something like Safestrap of Loki available for your phones.
