Updates in what devices? Samsungs unlocked devices that have been locked are not being locked by Samsung, that would be the carriers at fault. I have an international GS3 which is completely unlocked (and running the leaked JB 4.1.1) and I have a few friends that have the Verizon GS3's and which of both are locked (both carrier and bootloader).

Since when Samsung locked GS3 i9300?

Then you bought an unlocked International carrier phone -- not the same thing as a factory unlocked phone.

Phones which are being re-locked are ones which have not been unlocked in the correct way, correct unlocked phones or real factory unlocked phones will NOT be re-locked, the simple answer to your petition is that you was cheated by your seller.
You can prove this to yourself by using Samsung Kies without the phone connected and take the option Tools/Firmware Upgrade and Initialisation, note when asked for S/N this is the S/N from the back of the phone NOT your IMEI number and the Model needs to be entered in FULL e.g. GT-I9300, this will then tell you which CSC your phone left the factory with, now from the CSC you can tell if it was carrier branded or an unbranded phone, if its from a carrier branded then 90% of the time it would be locked, but instances exist where some carrier branded phones can be supplied unlocked.
TIP: The above option in Kies is also very useful when returning your phone to service, since it does a pretty good job of removing all traces of sh1t.

You've bought an operator locked phone repackaged as unlocked. Many of those retailers do it.

quick way to find if you can unlock your bootloader

just tried this on phone type on dialpad *#*#7378423#*#* select service info then configeration and at the bottom of list it should tell you rooting status mine had bootloader unlock allowed:yes. hope this helps
Simfree = Unlockable
Sim Locked = Not Unlockable (by Standard method)
It seems mine unlocked~~~~thanks~~
If it's not unlocked and you want it unlocked you could look HERE
All Ive got in my configuration section is IMEI, IMEI software version, available speech codecs and working band/s

Wrong. Branded phones from a carrier are unlockable via se method.
Simlock is the reason.
No simlock = unlockable
Simlock = not unlockable via se method
I unlocked my T-Mobile branded Arc via SE method
And other guys Vodafone branded ones

According to unlockbootloader.sonyericsson.com/instructions
"If Bootloader unlock allowed says Yes, then you can continue with the next step. If it says No, or if the status is missing, your device cannot be unlocked."
Hope this helps.

If you do a search you will find different providers that will offer a solution. It does involve shorting 2 pins. I did this with mine and it worked perfectly. Will try to find which website i used and post it back.

Regional based OTA upgrade. Have confusions.

I have a confusion of regional OTA update.
on the Moto It depends on the location. But I don't understand how this location is examined. Is it examined by where I have bought it or where the set is placed..
In a nutshell, I have Atrix from USA but I live in Asia. It said Asia's upgrade is still planning phase but in USA it will be available in Q3.
So will I'd be able to receive the OTA from Asia?

That's what I was confusing about!
I don't recommend flashing the ota tho. Once it id available wait for a fruit cake or fast boot images. Don't run the risk of getting a bootloader locked or hard bricking.

Hello,
I just wanted to clarify my doubt.. Asking anyone who baught S4 from a carrier to confirm whether their bootloader status ? Unlockable or Not? please... if unlockable to buy a simfree otherwise on billpay:laugh:
All the devices sold have their bootloader unlocked with the exception of phones sold by AT&T and Verizon as well as specific engineering devices and some/most GT-I9505X shop/demo units.

[Q] Why is there a CM rom for ATT?

i thought we were still waiting for the verizon model to come out before the unlocked bootloader method to be released. how are we able to have CM for ATT? is it this Loki stuff that is making that possible?
Some people bought their phones off contract and have unlocked bootloaders. Also by using a company for a fee can get you an unlock code.

Sorry for the noob question, but I got my AT&T S4 from Best Buy with my 2 year upgrade contract for $200, and my friend bought his from Best Buy AT&T S4 off the contract except a lot more expensive at $749.99. Is there a difference as I thought they were both i337 models... and all were locked bootloaders...
Not to mention if you use the OUDHS recovery, it's set up to Auto-Loki any ROM which is why it would make a TW-based CM work just fine. That being said, you're going to be dealing with nightlies, so if you're not ready to have a few issues here and there, it's not worth it to you to install it until an official release comes along.

Buying through the major carriers means a subsidized cost. If you're buying off-contract, it means you're the one paying for that subsidization and not the carrier, hence the larger cost. This is exactly why people flock to CL when buying phones off-contract because it's significantly cheaper, It doesn't change anything about the phone's internal hardware, An I337 bought at BB off-contract is still the same physical model as one bought on-contract through an AT&T Store.

I think you're a bit confused. What you're talking about is for a SIM unlock. Completely unrelated to the bootloader unlock we're mentioning here. As of right now, there is no bootloader unlock available for the AT&T/VZW GS4s
oh i thought it came out on the 30th.. so i guess i gotta search around for the unlock method? not sure i understand this "Loki" stuff

Loki is not really an unlock, it's more of a way to circumvent the bootloader since as of right now there's no way to unlock the AT&T variant GS4s. Look at this thread first to download what you'll need for root:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2252248
After that, you can visit this thread here and find what you'll need to use a recovery. Here's one that will Auto-Loki your ROMs for you:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2291956
Or you can run TWRP/CWM and flash this kernel after installing whatever ROM you choose for Loki:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2292341
With these tools installed, you can now run any ROM of your choice, but try to stick to those more closely based to the stock ROM as you can to keep all of your features working.
Hope that helps.

Just keep your eyes on a thread for the GW fix. Should be in the Android Development (not Original) thread. I've skimmed past it several times in the past couple days. And, yes, OUDHS will auto-Loki. TWRP as of right now will not.

Note 4 update to 5.0.1 noob (just moved from the iPhone)

Hello Guys,
I just switched from the iPhone to Note 4 and i am a really happy about the phone.
Only i have a few (noob) questions:
I have bought the phone from Mediamarkt (no contract) in the Netherlands. The problem is that some Note 4 users got the LP 5.0.1 update (BOC3) and i don't. You can see the information about my phone in the picture.
Can i use odin to update my phone or shall i wait a couple days or weeks? As an old Apple user i must say the updates are very confusing. If Apple released an update then everybody would recieve it.
Thanks!
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
You could be waiting longer than a few weeks such is the nature of updates in the Android sphere.
Is your phone 'unlocked and unbranded' or is it 'sim locked / branded to a carrier'. Buying it off contract or on PAYG from your mobile carrier does not mean it's unbranded / unlocked.
If it is unbranded / unlocked you can indeed flash the 5.0.1 firmware via ODIN 3.0.9
I hesitate to suggest doing it if your device is branded and locked to a network until you at least sim unlock it from that network.
If your unsure easiest way to test is to pop a microsim from another carrier into it and you'll quickly find out.
Re: flashing via ODIN
If you using an Apple computer such as macbook - I would recommend you run ODIN in boot camp rather than via a VM such as parallels.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thanks for your answer!
I could not test it with another SIM but i saw on the website of Mediamarkt that the phone is unlocked. Is there another possibilty to see if the phone is locked or unlocked?
And if it is locked is it then possible to unlock it and then do the update?
Many thanks
Sent from my SM-N910F using XDA Free mobile app
Is mediamarkt a general phone seller? or are they a carrier? If it's just a phone retailer and you don't have any splash screen or carrier apps installed, then yes it's likely an unbranded unlocked model.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Mediamarkt is a big electronics shop, they sell everything. (mediamarkt.nl)
No apps installed, i think it is an unlocked version. Do i lose my warranty of i update from the buildnumer ANK to BOC3?

I am from Germany ... I bought my wife's phone from MediaMarkt here and I flashed Lollipop with Odin with no issues. You should be okay to do it too.
