This happens because on a deodexed rom, cache will be built/rebuilt for all system apps as well as the data(downloaded) apps. On an odexed rom system app cache is "prebuilt" so to speak, as an odex file so cache is only being built for data apps at first boot.

+1 on this, I just want a deodexed ota version ji6 rom. I tried deodexing it myself using xultimate, and got all the deodexed files, but when I move them to system using root explorer, things stop working. Like the camera fc's, and it takes forever to boot up. Should I not use root explorer, and use adb push instead?

I've been wondering the same thing. I loved my stock Deodexed JFD and would love the same on my JI6.

Hi,
I saw this thread, and since I already had an OTA JI6 deodexed /system directory, it wasn't terribly hard to add the stock kernel and modem and compile a flashable zip file.
I posted a thread in android dev here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808830
Cheers, =)
I've been searching for the stock kernal for at&t users for s bit now, can't find it I'm trying to fix the annoying "updating camera firmware, please wait..." message. Unless there's a better way, I'll just assume you have to flash the sock kernal to update it. But if you flash the sock Kernal, wouldn't the phone fail on boot?

No, I'm running Wanamlite v1.0.
I just reinstalled the stock AT&T rom to allow the camera to update, but when I ran the camera, no update appeared. So I figured it was all set. After re-rooting, I re-installed Wanamlite and KT kernal, open up the camera, and sure enough the message re-appears. I didn't perform any wipes. But it looks like I'll have to because all the AT&T bloatware was re-installed again.

Your mistake was reinstalling Wanamlite again. Here's how you install non AT&T ROMs
1. Root your phone. I used the one click TWRP and Loki method.
2. Factory Reset and install custom ROM.
3. Install AT&T kernel. Let it boot up. Open Camera.
4. Reboot to recovery. Install custom kernel. Wipe cache and Dalvik. Fix Permissions.
5. Reboot. All done.

Thanks, you're right about my mistake lol I ended up just installing someone else's ROM and it works perfectly. I'm a bit lost reading your instructions, It was my understanding that custom ROM's would not load with stock kernel?

Exactly, its nice he can recommend installing a stock kernel, but they are not to be found. I asked in another thread and didn't get an answer. I somehow got it to work just wiping and installing Omega 5.0 Then to get wifi to work I installed ktoonez kernel.

okay, assuming you're using the AT&T variant, I did this:
I got the looping "installing camera firmware" and tried faux an ktoonsez with no luck
I flashed this tmobile stock kernel and the camera firmware updated successfully by going into the camera app.
I then just flashed faux kernel back and everything worked great.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2271976
I use shabbypenguin's auto loki CWM recovery, but you'll have to definitely flash the loki patch after the tmo kernel to make this work.

I am moving from a Odexed MF9 (Stock / Rooted) Rom to a Deodexed version (MF9 / Stock / Rooted).
Can I use TB to restore Apps and data or will it mess things up since the backup was made on a Odexed ROM and the restore would be on a deodexed rom?

I would say it conflict buddy some apps need odex to work correctly and restore data will add some of the odex file back if im not mistaken buddy but I could be wrong but you have a backup so if everything goes wrong just restore the backup but if you dont have a nandroid make one before doing this

As long as you are just restoring user apps/data then there will be no conflict. The trouble starts when restoring system apps/data, that's never a good idea after flashing a new rom.
Thanks. I was mostly interested in restoring the App Data more than anything else. Worst case it doesn't work, and I will wipe and reflash and go from there...
I've been using Titanium Backup for about 4 years across multiple phones and updates and haven't had any issues just with user apps.

I did a fresh install of the Deodexed Stock Rooted MF9 Rom. I used TB to restore my Apps and Data and it worked just fine (coming from the Odexed ROM).
Obvisously I didn't restore the system apps

I am currently running the SACS CUSTOM ROM 4.4.2 KIT KAT V.3 on my GS4 SPH-L720, and I am extremely satisfied with everything, besides one little thing. I tried installing the Sprint hotspot mod on it and it didn't do anything besides erase my status bar and a mass amount of other glitches. I assumed that when I ran the mod install, the SERVICES.jar that was overwritten contained all that information and that's why all the status bar disappeared and all those glitches occurred, however, I do not know how to combine (if you will [i'm a noob when it comes to android programming] ) the two services.jar files to maintain all the ROM's important info and still install the hotspot mod.
I am running on an NAE baseband.

I had some problems with wifi and found I was doing a few things wrong. Did you go from MF9 to MK2 and flash the modem then install the MK2 rom? Then do the same and flash NAE modem then install the stock rom. If your doing Sac's then just install the Sac's rom instead of the NAE. For the wifi I use this method still just because. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AYTis-i7HA4 and it will show you how to do the .jar file by hand then you will know nothing else has been changed. From what happened to me and what people are asking I have found people are skipping steps or doing them wrong. Hope this Helps...
This is the only Hot Spot mod that works with the Sacs 3.0 rom.
You have to dig for it in the OP under older versions

I tried the mod posted above, but I had no luck. I dont even have the option for hotspot under settings. Is it because I have the 720T version? Or do I have to download some other app to make it work?

Need Stock NAE Services.jar and services.odex files
So I have been running this rom for a while and I did have some issues like screen locking up etc… but I re-installed and everything is working fine. Here is my problem… I can’t go back to stock. I get an Odin failure every time and the failure depends on which stock file I am trying to Odin either its a write error or its an Auth. failure. I had this issue once before and it had to do with services.odex and services.jar files. Only I can’t find either of those files that come from the stock build and I am not really sure they will fix my problem of returning to stock but I am so hoping it does. I know I was the idiot that didn’t do the nand back up I just forgot. Any ideas on obtaining the files above or another fix. I need to take the phone back and I am unable too.
Which version should I get odex or deodex

The odexed version will be slightly quicker but can not be themed, the deodexed version can be themed and you can switch if you install the other version.

How would switch to the deodexed version? Do I need to flash deodexed zip through safestrap in the stock slot? Factory Reset?

From what I've read - performance between the two shouldn't matter - after the initial login. Odex should be faster but I ran Odex for awhile (4.4.2) and didn't notice any difference between that and after getting Baja 4.4.2 (deodex). Battery life is a lot better for me on Baja 4.4.2 (deodex) than it ever was on Odex 4.4.2.... but that's comparing apples to oranges I think as Baja might have rom optimizations that weren't in the stock Odex 4.4.2.
If you theme at ALL - Deodex is a must. (I never theme but I've been really happy with Baja 4.4.2 so I'm changing my mind on that...).
