system update May 13th
My phone downloaded a system update last night. I am rooted. Does anyone know what it is and if I will lose root? Is it worth installing?
Im rooted and it and fails to install the update after it boots to stock recovery.
thanks. I"ll just leave it alone.
Same here....I am also rooted and have clockworkmod 1.0.3.3....and once I install it it brings me to my recovery which I chose to not install the zip.....still curious what the update was?....in my opinion... there is nothing wrong with the phone....which makes curious even more what it was?.....but I don't think it would of broke root....even if it did...it only takes 5minutes to root....

It will break root if installed. This thread has the flashable update and will keep root. Also talks about some of the changes peeps have seen after flashing/installing update: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2257116&page=7

With stock recovery it should still install. However if you removed/froze any of the stock apps that can keep it from installing.

One issue with unchecking show notifications for the "Google Services Framework" is gtalk and txt messages aren't passed through with notifications either.
I don't use gtalk and I use handcent, so I didn't know that. Thanks for the heads up.

i tried to flash it with cwm but no different.
you can't use CWM...you have to use stock recovery and stock rom. root doesn't matter.

after the phone updates and boots DO NOT REBOOT AGAIN!!! connect your phone via usb and run the command 'adb logcat'
post it here and we'll get the link extracted from it.
I got it, it makes my phone look clean

Well, how can I run "adb logcat"? sorry MONSTER NOOB
Is the performance any better?
Ditto to the above. I'm currently updating, just excited to see if there have been lag/battery enhancements.
Got it about 4 hours back.. it was a pleasant surprise.
Feels much smoother.
Also I don't lose all my widgets after a restart. Yay.
Is it just me? Apps on SD seem to have disappeared from the drawer...
I had to 'crash' the drawer and then let it reload... weird
davyu: They were missing for me too at first but after few minutes they reappeared. Most likely because update clears some cache and Nexus has to reload it again.

I'm not sure why you think you need to freeze after rooting...like rooting is going to cause the OTA! If I had a phone that was vulnerable to MF3 OTA I'd pull out the SIM card and turn off wifi so it had no way to download anything...IMMEDIATELY! Before I even turned it on!
I'd then root it with motochopper and sideload Titanium Backup to freeze the files before allowing any data connections.

You can use Root Uninstaller to freeze 2 apps that have to do with OTA. It's free.
Im confused, are the American carriers pushing the OTA to devices without the authorization from the user?
When I first got this device (while i was reading and getting myself up to speed on the rooting process) the OTA notification would pop up, i would select postpone for 4 hours and do the same when the next notification popped. To be safe would power down at night...
Did that for 2-3 days with no issue...

Mine shipped with MDL right from AT&T. All I did when I got it was take out the SIM before I first powered on the phone. Set up the device, wifi, Google account etc, Then I rooted, and installed TWRP to make a full backup. Then I installed SHOStock.
If one plans to install a custom ROM, there is no need to freeze the OTA apps. Only freeze them if you plan on staying stock with root. Root is available on MF3 but is not recommended. If you screw up, you're screwed yourself as there is currently no way to recover.

so, folks are so excited about flashing an update when they have no idea what SPECIFIC things the update brings??
never ceases to amaze me how people will flash things to their precious 800 dollar phone without thinking about why they are flashing it...
