[REQ][MOD] Long press Volume to skip tracks - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Must have feature for road warriors listening to music on the go. pretty much a staple and easy to develop mod in AOSP as well all touchwiz versions since the very first. If i recall correctly has to do with changing a few strings in smali files of framework.res. any experienced devs willing to take up this challenge?

Try downloading "Pocket skip track" from the play store. it can be configured to skip tracks with one click or double clicks while screen is off.

I look forward to that! I too miss the long press skip track feature of cm10.1, luckily my earphones have a remote, so isn't too bad.

i also have been working on it, its in the android.policy.jar file, but the problem is i cant get enough information about how this guide works so that i can find alternative ways of making it, i also kept getting into boot loops, i cant live without this mod, you can do it with xposed framework, but its just not the same...

the xposed installer has been updated to support S4.
you can download the new version now 2.1.4

Awesome, love my XM.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Just tried it a bit. I'm on Fresh 3.2. It used to not even connect, just say "Aquiring Data Connection"
With this update it plays and doesn't loop, but it sure does jump and skip quite a bit. Guess it's a start....
Only Froyo ROM I've ever gotten SXM to work right on is CM6 - which I don't wanna go back to.
Nice thanks for the update. I guess signing up on their webpage for an update email was pointless.

Well thats how I found out they emailed me. Also make sure you dont have the stagefright fix since I am also running Fresh 3.2 and had to switch back to stock stagefright files in order for it to play properly.
1 hr running and no problems so far... Thanks XM

Please tell me what you did to stagefright. I know Flipz made some changes to it but I don't know how to undo them. In my build.prop the player is enabled and it still skips a lot.
Thanks!!
I am using Fresh 3.2 and the new SiriusXM app is working fine for me. I'd say about 3 skips every hour or so. I actually only use this for Bloomberg and CNBC - I much prefer slacker and pandora for music, so a couple of skips is no big deal for me.
What I desperately can't figure out is how to record a live stream off the sound card (for lack of a better term). All recording apps seem to use the microphone only. Any ideas so that I can listen to specific CNBC shows like Kudlow on my ride home?

Just extract the stagefright files from your original rar file and then ad push or copy and paste with Root explorer into the system/lib folder overwriting the files that are there now
Then replace the build.prop with the one from your original rom rar file as well.
I WIll try and attached them here for you.... what rom are you running

Actually, after a reboot, I'm finding no skips at all as well.
Hate to bump this thread up again, but seemed like the best place to post rather than making a new thread.
Is anybody having issues with SXM 1.1 and connecting in the past couple of days? Its worked flawlessly for me since the update, and I've been happy with it again. However, now, on startup, the application hangs on "Checking for Updates".
Tried clearing data, uninstall/reinstall, and hard reset fresh install. All no dice.
Anybody else having issues?

Long press action not working.

I am running the current Eclipse rom and Player Pro as my media player. I have changed the options in player pro to utilize the long press action, but it does not seem to work. It has worked on other roms, but for some reason, I cannot get this to work yet on Eclipse. Anyone have any suggestions? Maybe an app that can handle that task?
I would have posted this question in the Eclipse thread, but I am locked out till I reach the ten post quota!
Still needing help with this if anyone has any suggestions....
Probably best to ask in that ROM's thread.

I would love to, but as I need a total of ten posts before I can, this was my only option.
I have solv ed this by using the Exposed module. There is a module you can download and activate that gives you control over buttons. For whatever reason, the rebuilt JB and KK builds do not by default control the volume buttons to skip tracks. But it is a simple fix if you install Exposed and install the physical button module! :good::laugh:

Missing Xposed on Android 5

What should replace G3 Tweaks/Xposed on Android 5?
On my rooted KK rom, I used several Xposed functions, out of which the most important to me:
- Four options/extended boot menu
- Volume keys skip tracks (RDIO, PANDORA) while screen is off
- More volume steps
Android 5 (ART) currently voids Xposed
Can you guys recommend ART alternatives for the above (APK or Mod)
Thanks

So there is nothing out there yet, u have to wait if rovo89 make xposed ready for ART or alternatives.
Xposed will not work on Android L
Xposed will not work on Android L
Probably it will not be patched.
Let me tell you a story, of a time before xposed (GHAST, yes, for there was such a time!). Back in these dark days, mods used to be done by pulling apart an apk, making modifications in the code and rebuilding the apk to insert into a rom, the problem was these files were device specific, and often rom specific so it made modding very time consuming, and you had to remake a mod for each device and often each particular rom.
Xposed changed this, it patched files on the fly in such a way that it worked on every device and every rom (so long as the file it was patching, and the code it was changing was present).
Now we have no Xposed, we have to go back to those olden times, lets put on our robes and pick up that longsword and fight back.
..... TLDR: There is nothing that Xposed does that cannot be done 'the old way', it is just a far more time consuming process doing it the old way, and because it is now device and often rom specific finding a developer to do it for your device and rom might not be easy.
If there is automated call recording in a custom android 5 rom I will switch instantly.
Most other things are usually fixed by the custom roms as well.

There's apps at Google play for almost everything you want.
Quickclick for the music, reboot menu widget for four way reboot, and so on... [emoji106]
For Active Display what's the best app without xposed?
Any replacement for Xprivacy?
What about Appsettings?
this is only reason for I dont like upgrade to 5.

Dude just wait xposed or something similar will eventually come for Android L too..
It's not just exposed. There are going to be a great many apps and tweaks that won't work on 5.0. Some will eventually be rewritten, some do things that might no longer be possible with Lollipop. All we can do is wait, and in the meantime decide whether the benefits of 5.0 outweigh the things we'll lose.
I'm going to hate the absence of Skip Lock, which the developer says can't be made to work on 5.0. That may keep me from upgrading for a while.

Well, LG G3 got a built-in lock skipper. I think its code may be studied and exploited for another use.

It does? Can it unlock the device when connected to specific WiFi networks? 5.0 offers trusted Bluetooth, but not trusted WiFi, like Skip Lock does, and it also doesn't allow apps to unlock the screen. But my main point was that even if these capabilities are eventually provided, it will take time. Right now "upgrading" to Lollipop will mean doing without a lot of the tweaks and hacks we've become used to.

Bluetooth and NFC. It's a new build, of course it has no hacks. Let's just wait to see what will come.

Right. But out of the box, 5.0 doesn't allow any app to trigger a screen unlock. A lot of other things have been locked down, too. For the time being, upgrading to Lollipop is going to mean doing without a lot of the tweaks we're used to.

How to remove/hide the Navbar on Mojo?

Hey again guys. I've been doing further research and I'm positive the console I want to buy next is a Mojo.
I plan to root it as soon as I get it, so the important question is: how do I make it so the navbar doesn't show up? Apparently its always present by default, making all apps even XBMC not actually fullscreen.
Hopefully someone can tell me that. Thanks!

That's were I've heard your name.. on the "The Retro League" podcast lol
I haven't heard those two in ages.. wow!
I should go get me some right now lol
Cool, ha.. to your questions.
I think there's app on the app store which remove the navbar in jellybean.. not 100%
I would think CM12 would have that as an option.. again not sure sorry.
MX player does hide it but games don't.. that I recall anyway.
:good:
I wonder if there's just a script that you can edit to fix this. I just want the damn thing to not take up screen space when it's not a touch screen device to begin with.

Try Auto Hide Soft Keys APP which worked fine for me on rooted jellybean. Kodi/XBMC on the Lollipop (CM12) ROM works without this app because of immersive mode which hides the navbar, so I would suggest when you get your MOJO to switch to that ROM.
I know this is probably a crazy noobish question, but is there any way to download game apks from the google play store directly to my imac? I'm pretty new to google play, and it keeps saying to sign in on the device. but thats just the thing, I don't have a mojo yet. I'm still trying to figure out if I will get one.
So what the heck? Can't I just download to my computer and then "sideload" later?

I'm not sure why you would need to sideload apks to the MOJO since it will be fully functional with google play after using the rooting method for jellybean. On CM12, missing apps can apparently be fooled into appearing in google play by changing the device to something else like an nvidia shield tablet using Market helper http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2146216
But there is a way to download apks to the computer if you must: try this

I'm newish to android but I think you still need to use the navbar regardless of lack of touch...
At least with jellybean, cm12 feels better integrated to android but still need to get to the all apps menu button.
I think the issue is jellybean didn't let apps remove easily, were as cm12 does.

Any ROM's with volume rocker skip track?

I know it's a basic function, but I've had it on every Android I've had in the last 5 years. Without xposed my phone feels so basic and I have to turn on the screen to change track.
Is there any ROM for our phone with this function built in? I don't care about any other features so anything else is a bonus. I couldn't see it in any of the features for the ROMs available
Appreciate any help.
I believe resurrection remix has it. Or at least I had it on my OPO.
I miss that function aswell. And not to mention pie controls and ad block. Might aswell start flashing custom ROMs
Carbon rom have it, im currently using it
thanks for your replies guys. I'll check them out
You could also do this with a MacroDroid macro or a tasker scene, no need for a custom rom if you're happy otherwise
