Have you both pressed the volume up button, once you are on the phone with someone? Volume is low on voice calls for me also, but if you are in a quiet environment you shouldn't have any problems hearing someone if you turned the volume up to maximum on a voice call.
It's on max volume.

Ringtone Volume Issues

So I'm loving this device but there's something recently that has made me curious. I have the Ringtone volume all the way up and when I receive a call the first two seconds of the ringtone are at low to medium volume before jumping up to high. Stock Over the Horizon ringer if that matters. Anyone else having this issue?

All my volume settings are turned off and I don't have camera shutter sounds. There's 4 different volume sliders.

Put the phone into silent (slide top slider to minimum which makes the phone vibrate and silent/vibrate icon appear. You can also select the vibrate button from the long power press menu). The camera is then silent.

Weird, when in silent it makes no sound on mine, or the other person who replied it seems. Must be your firmware version.
