Notifications - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
Everytime I receive a notification, the screen turns on no matter what. Even if it's in the pocket. How to turn this feature off? I don't want it to turn on while in my pocket, bag or smw else.

That's not exactly an option you can turn off. You'd have to switch over to an app like Go SMS if you wanted to be able to customize it more.

[Q] How to prevent screen from turning on receiving SMS

Guys, I'm having some headache with this thing:
For example, when you receive a call, the phone see if the proximity sensor is blocked, if so, it keeps the screen locked until you, for example, take it out of the pocket, and unblock the proximity sensor...
BUT
When you receive a SMS, it ignores the proximity sensor, and unlocks the screen anyway, because of this, I can't put the phone to lock (ask pattern) @ more than 5 sec, because if I receive a SMS, the screen will turn on, and it'll do a lot of unwanted stuff while on my pocket...
But even putting the phone to lock when the screen goes off, sometimes when I receive SMS, the screen goes ON, asking the pattern, or asking to do an emergency call, and guess what? It does a lot of unwanted emergency calls...
And even worse, I cycle a lot, and like to listen music while cycling, so when I receive a SMS, it sometimes start to change music, pause music, etc, but the worse is, when I receive a call, and press the earphone button to answer it, and then press it again to end it, when the call ends, the screen goes ON, I mean, WTF? if I'm controlling the call from the earphone, it's probally because I can't reach the screen? Why would it turn on??
So, I have a i9505 with stock rom, but rooted, is there a file that I can edit to make it don't turn ON @ these cases, or another way to prevent it?
You can install go sms and you can set If you want your screen to turn on or not when receiving a new message

hi there,
u can install many apps that makes use of proximity sensor to turn off screen if its in pocket or bag
u can check gravity screen app, auto on off app in Google play,or maybe this one - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.itsme4ucz.screenoff
but remember,it will consume more battery ,as proximity sensor will remain on for whole day...

Thank you, I'll test this program, I hope it don't consume much more battery...
It's sad that there's no way to fix this just by editing parameters, but thanks!

Interesting, so if you are looking a your phone with the screen off and trigger your Ring Doorbell.. your phone screen stays dark?
Maybe i need re-install the app.. hmmm
I've tried looking into my settings but I can't seem to find notification settings in the actual Ring app. I believe the usual behavior is the screen goes from AOD to with lock screen, if I interact with it it goes back to AOD. I don't know if the screen goes on when in my pocket, but it's never on when I take it out even after a motion detection

I have the same issue on Pixel 2/XL. It is very annoying. I have tried everything, but have not been able to disable the screen wake. I contacted Ring to request a feature to disable screen wake, but of course they did not respond.
This is still the most annoying thing. My phone is rooted and I have yet to find a solution that keeps the app from waking the screen. Of all the apps I have, Ring app is the only one that misbehaves this way.

Phone vibrates even if vibration is off for the apps

I have set my phone vibration on using power down key. For apps like WhatsApp, TOI, I have turned it off. Whenever I am using my phone and there is the notification from these apps, my phone gets vibrated. Is this is a bug? How can I turn off vibration for notifications and turn on only for calls? Is there is a difference in vibration setting when screen is off or screen is on? Please help
anyone??

Once For me, my device profile mode was in 'ringing' but when I was receiving calls, my phone device wasn't ringing. I then restarted the phone and it started working.
Same issue with the zen gesture 'tap to wake/sleep' , had turn the gesture on and off for it to work.
Phone is having many issues.

Help with screen issue please.

Hope someone can help.
Since the August update the screen on my Mi A1 keeps turning itself on. Only way I can stop it is if I put the phone in aeroplane mode.
It will be sitting on the desk doing nothing and the screen just comes on, no alerts (I don't have app alerts on besides phone and messages), no calls or text. Doesn't even go to the home screen, just the screen lights up and wont turn off until I physically click the power button. If I put it in aeroplane mode it doesn't do it but obviously I can't do that as I then can't receive calls or text.
Anyone got any ideas?
