I'm having the same problem. There's a fix for t-mobile that I used but since it's a sprint phone my 3g stopped working. Does anybody have a fix for this?

You both are running custom kernels. You have four options:
(1) Freeze the app called SEAndroid using Titanium Backup or a similar app.
(2) Use Titanium or a similar app to uninstall the KNOX application.
(3) Use Root Explorer or a similar app to browse to /system/app and delete all files beginning with KNOX
(4) Flash the stock kernel.

Thank you so much for your reply. This has been driving me nuts. I uninstalled seandroid and knox and now the prevention information warning doesnt pop up but I still cant turn on the wifi. Ill install the stock kernel and see if that works.

What kernel are you running? Try a different custom kernel. I can assure you that the messages have nothing to do with your inability to activate wifi. That message is a well known issue.

kernel version says 3.4.0-529760 [email protected] #1 Sat Apr 27 18:12:21 KST 2013.
my baseband ends in mdc and build number ends in mdl. Would that have any effect on it? I can't flash any other roms in rom manager because my 3g is too slow and an error occurs every time I try to flash it.

Well it seems you're running an older kernel on a newer rom. without knowing the ROM I'd suggest you run a new kernel. I use this. It should work well for you.
Make sure you download the correct version. Use ASOP if you're running and ASOP ROM like CM. Use Touchwiz if you're running a Touchwiz ROM.

Thanks. I'll try it out. I'm just running the stock rom. That's the only rom that I'm having wifi problems with.
I'm relatively new to using odin so when I try to flash the kernal i click on pda but the zip file isn't listed. What do?

Ahhh it's not flashable in ODIN. you'll need to install a custom recovery via ODIN and then flash it. I use TWRP 2.5.0.2. It seems to be the most stable.
1) Click this and download the odin flashable version of TWRP.
2) Open ODIN. Click PDA select the file you downloaded
3) click START.
4) your phone will reboot.
Now you have TWRP installed. To flash a zip file:
1) save it to your sd card.
2) Boot into recovery. (to boot into recovery just reboot your phone. when you feel it vibrate press the volume up button until it boots into recovery)
3) click the INSTALL button.
4) find the zip file on your SDCARD. select it.
5) swipe to flash
6) press the wipe cache/dalvik button.
That's it.

okay gotcha. that makes more sense. Didn't think you could install a zip with odin but wasn't sure. When I install different recoveries in odin I can't flash my recoveries and that's why I was trying to get cwm recovery. Thank you for your help. I'll let you know how it goes.

Awesome. Thank you soo much. Finally got it working. Now if I could just fix my cm10 rom I'll be set. I'm having issues with several apps in cm10. Can only access google play, facebook, etc. sometimes. They work fine on wifi but with 3g they almost never work.

Is there anyway to get my cwm recoveries to work in twrp? I don't want to keep switching back and forth to make new recoveries.
nevermind i was looking at the internal sdcard. Got it. Thanks a million

you can take new backups with TWRP.
also CM10 is great but ASOP roms in my opinion are for more experienced users. I'd play around with the stock Touchwiz rom first.

I've been getting this error all day today. I'm on MDL ROM. I restored it from my previous CM10.1 installation. While I was on CM10.1, I flashed the MF9 firmware. Later that day I did a factory reset in recovery and restored my previous NANDROID MDL backup. I started getting this Prevention Information error.
My baseband was MF9 while my build number was MDL. I read that I had to put the MDL firmware back on the phone. I got the MDL firmware from this link here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2338919 . After using ODIN to put the firmware back on, I went into TWRP and cleared cache and dalvik and rebooted. I'm still getting the error even though baseband and build number are both MDL.
Any ideas? Thanks!

This has been happening alot if you install bootloader, kernel, firmware, etc seperately. to avoid this odin back to full stock mf9.

Prevention Information on Stock rom - how to get rid of it?
I started receiving this error after updating to last stock Vodafone firmware. Does anybody know how to get rid of this on a stock rom? I am not rooted.

Just odin full mf9 stock tar. This happens because of different firmware versions together or if your rooted and such just use any root file explorer and delete all apps in system that begin with knox

Downgrade
But if I go to an older stock then I receive update notifications again and that is something I see even more annoying than selecting inform me no sooner than in 30 days option offered by Prevention information popup. Correct? Or when flashing stock through Odin again (not downgrade but doing the same thing again but through Odin) the problem dissapears?

If you go to mf9 thats the newest update we have really so you wouldnt get a update notification. But theres three ways to solve your problem. One odin back to stock MDL and accept then accept the update. Or second you can reflash the same firmware you have again thru odin to make sure everythin is where its suppose to be or 3rd use a root file explorer and in system/apps delete every app that begins with knox.

Also i had the same problem after i updated the S4, my problem was with K9-email client i just remove it and all things now are good.

[Q] Problem creating a TWRP Custom Recovery with Odin

Hi everyone. I have followed the YouTube video by Chris Nacca (http://youtu.be/Ov6BXOu7SwA)that uses TWRP 2.5 custom recovery (file: openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.2-jfltexx.tar) on my unlocked GT-i9505 S4 using Odin 3.07. Unfortunately, despite the message from Odin indicates all worked fine (<ID:0/004> RES OK !!), on rebooting my phone back into Recovery mode, I am greeted with the Android character telling me there is an Error and then "dying" and saying "No Command".
The phone isn't bricked as I can move the highlight bar through the various menu options at the top left-hand side of the screen and reboot back via my stock ROM but clearly the Custom Recovery hasn't been installed correctly and, despite the Message screen in Odin showing <OSM> All threads completed. (success 1 / failed 0).
I have a rooted and unlocked GT-I9505 with a baseband reading as: I9505ZHUZME1. Anyone got any ideas or advice as to what may have gone wrong as if I can't sort this out I can't move to a custom ROM. :crying:
Many thanks in advance, Jim

Thanks for your reply. Being new to Android, am I correct in assuming that I merely download the last .tar file from the page you provided the link to and install it as I did the TWRP custom recovery file using Odin? Am I right in believing this will leave me with my Stock ROM but I can then do a Nandroid Backup and move to a custom ROM from there when I am ready?

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
use the above link which is PHILZ recovery
Edit : u have to have ur phone into download mode which u can go by
power off device unplug press volume down home power all together till u get download mode and connect to device
the file extension will be .tar use it on PDA at odin and flash it
then u can take a backup of the entire current firmware and keep it to safe place like PC Hard drive and move to ROMS

Thanks. One (hopefully) last question: The link you provided has both *.zip and *.tar.md5 files. I presume you mean I should use the latter, and do I need to remove the last portion (.md5) to make it a *.tar file or use it as is in Odin 3.07?

Sorry, back again. I have done as you suggested (twice) and still can't get my phone to install a custom recovery. While Odin once again reports a successful install (as it did when installed the TWRP custom recovery), when I reboot back into custom recovery mode after installing PhilZ Touch custom recovery (as indicated by the blue text on the start-up screen), I no longer get the dying Android figure as I did when installed TWRP custom recovery, but the screen goes to a black, vibrates and then the phone reboots normally (which is a relief). So, needless to say - I am stumped. Can you or anyone else offer any suggestions?

Also download a app from play store "root checker" and see what its saying
possibly the recovery is not getting installed on phone coz of some root access

Happy to try but could you point me to how I get back to stock firmware and then reset the device? I thought I was still using stock firmware (rooted I understand) so I think you must mean that I need to unroot my phone some how, reboot and then use the rooting process you just posted before install Philz recovery. Would you mind describing a little more - I know I have taken up a lot of your time but greatly apprecriate your help,

U can download the stock firmware from ur device I9505 will be abt 1.4 gb
once downloaded extract in a folder then flash using Odin pda - need to select .tar here again as u did b4 for recovery flashng etc
This will flash a Firmware and u will have stock phone unrooted
from there reset the device from ur phone which will remoce all the bad files etc and all the data also from ur Internal phone memory
after that as told Root and install recovery hope fully this will work without issues

Okay, got all that. I am surprised that you can flash stock firmware back on to your phone as I was under the impression you needed a custom recovery installed before you could add a custom ROM. Is that purely a "safety" precaution and I could bite the bullet and install a custom ROM now (should I be silly enough to try)? I do have may SYSTEM, APPS and USER data back up. Obviously I will loose everything on my phone doing this but can I expect that I can restore the APPs and USER data from my existing backup but not attempt to do this will the system files in fear of recreating the current problem?

Yes u can flash stock with Odin no need to install recovery for that..Custom recovery is needed mostly to flash custom Roms more or less u can say
and this method is 100% safe as long as u do properly
make sure u have 60% plus battery on the phone dont disconnect while its running / installing
and dont re install backup u have taken b4 with system files etc myte create plm
rather use titanium / mybackup pro app just to backup messages/ apps etc and save it else where or SD card for later use

Hi, I have done as suggested and flashed the stock ROM and performed a hard Reset. I didn't expect the flashing of the ROM would leave all my apps and screens as they were. Is that normal? I did confirm that the baseband number had changed, which is has. I then moved on to install the root as suggested and all seems to have worked well with the red Android figure appearing. Unfortunately SuperSU is complaining of not having the necessary binary files and Root Checker doesn't seem to be able to determine whether I have rooted phone or not as it just sits there complaining that my system seem slow. Any advice? Thanks.

Yes flashing a stock firmware using Odin keeps all the files and data intact however we should do Reset from the device imm to get rid of all the issue coming from the old used files/ custom files etc could be anything i cant say
have u tried updating SU etc from play store try that
And u have used CF ROOT method rite ??

Hi, yes I tried SU from play store - same issue. I also reset from the Backup and Reset option on the phone which did delete all the apps etc so to the best of my knowledge, I followed all the steps as described by you and on the various pages you gave me links to.
I have just tried SuperUser. It noted the binaries were old but when it attempted to update, said it "failed" to gain root access. Despite getting the confirmatory Red Android after the root process, I now wonder if it didn't go entirely as planned despite trying 2-3 times....?

Did you check the MD5 before flashing? Are you absolutely sure the ROM your flashing is compatible with your device? Were you on the latest MF3 firmware before you started flashing?

it appears you have flashed an ATT rom for the i337 and not a Rom for the i337m -- you now have several options to restore your phone
1. flash the Loki'd fix to allow the kernel and rom you flashed to boot your phone or
2. flash a cutom kernel that does work with your phone such a Ktoonz kernel (read the install instructions, for your i337m you need the TMO version of his kernel) or
3 download the stock firmware package for your phone, I'd recommend MG1 either from a link on xda or from samMobile or Samsung updates and install using Odin -- this will completely reset you phone and then you can worry about root and custom recovery after
If you do decide to install fresh factory stock MG1 I can recommend using CF-root to root the i337m and then installing Philz Recovery rather than regular CWM as it installs more easily and plays nicer on the i337m in my experience.
Remember each phone is different but do not attempt to install ATT designed roms on your i337m unless you have the loki patch also on your SD card ready to flash also.
There are many great roms available that do fir the i337m and are specifically set up for our phone.
But first, let's get you out of the download loop. EIther of the 3 options above will do. Personally, I would recommend the Odin install of the stock MG1 firmware and start over with a factory reset and a clean phone.

okay got it back to stock, now quick question for the philz do i flash the .tar with odin? or do something else with the .zip?
Its not the ROM that's incomparable its the kernal your using. Find one for a i337m then flash it immediately after you flash your ROM and see if it works.

so just to go over the steps to make sure i dont mess this up,
so i flashed to the origonal versoin with odin
that worked
then i rooted it using CF root
now i got 2 files from philz and i'm not 100% sure what to do with them, i got a .tar what i assume i flash with odin and a .zip i'm not to sure what i do with they are both named philz_touch_5.15.0-jfltecan.tar.md5 and philz_touch_5.15.0-jfltecri.zip
then once i get into recovery i know how to flash roms, its just this whole kernal thing thats got me confused.

READ THIS FIRST:
MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT HAVE THE MF3 FIRMWARE ON YOUR S4. THAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT THING TO DO RIGHT NOW. IF YOU DO, DO NOT ATTEMPT TO INSTALL A CUSTOM RECOVERY.
You don't have a custom recovery already that's why. Did casual not install TWRP for you? If not try installing Goo Manager from the app market and try installing TWRP that way. MAKE SURE THAT WHEN YOU INSTALL IT, IT SAYS YOUR MODEL NUMBER EXACTLY! I CAN NOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH! When you have TWRP installed, then flash philz with TWRP and you'll have that custom recovery instead.

do not use the zip you quoted it is not for your phone
use odin flash the tar philz_touch_5.15.0-jfltecan.tar.md5
now you have stock updated MG1 firmware with the latest baseband
root by CF root
Philz Recovery
Now follow the next steps:
1. set up your google account play store etc.
2.next, go into the recovery and do a full nandroid backup -- this gives you a stable base you can restore when needed
3. go flash a custom rom, I highly recommend the latest version of Goldeneye -- updated, well maintained, great developer, clear install instructions
4. try itt then again, use recovery to make a 2nd nandroid, this one of your custom rom install -- try different kernels, every phone is different and someone's favorite kernel just may not like your phone -- doesn't make it a bad kernel just makes it the wrong one for your phone, flash a different one
5. theme if you want -- this is where your recoveries become important as themes are notorious for not always sitting well and all is ok if you have a backup you can return to
6. NEVER flash a baseband from another variant -- stick with your MG1 from your carrier until your carrier updates stock firmware

Bootloader/Flash Problem

I have an ATT i337 S4 (mdl baseband) running on T-mobile. Current setup was wicked 7.0 ROM with ATT kernel.
I was trying to change to cyanogenmod ROM and tried using my TWRP 2.5.0.2 to load the rom but it would flash it and gave me an md5 error. Supposedly this is a known issue with TWRP so most people recommend using clockworkmod recovery and I tried to load that using recovery tools. Recovery tools couldn't find the CWM image file but did find the 2.6.3.0 updated TWRP image file so I tried to update TWRP and when I did, I can't boot to recovery anymore and instead get the yellow triangle saying unauthorized software.
At the same time (ugh) I flashed wicked 8 ROM update and think I loki'd it (I am running wicked 8.0 now) but I forgot to run the att kernel afterward. The current kernel is 3.4.5 ... dirty ptmr3 ... N5110 #1. I think this is the standard t-mobile kernel which will obviously not work on my ATT phone.
The problem is, now I can't reboot into recovery mode. When I try, I get the yellow triangle "system software not authorized by ATT...". I don't know if the problem is with the bad kernel or with the updated 2.6.3 TWRP. The only way I can get around the bootloader problem is the hold down the down vol and home button, then the power button and that gets me into a "Warning a custom OS can cause critical problems ..." page. From there if I continue, I get the yellow triangle. If I hit the volume down button to cancel, it boots normally but not into the bootloader and I have partial functionality of my phone.
Where do I go from here? Odin to stock? Replace the bootloader somehow? Anything else?
I did do a nandroid of my system before all of this but for some reason I can't access my SD card. I can hit mount but nothing shows up on file manager. Will that backup replace the bootloader with the known good one? I could copy the backup to the phone memory and do it from there using titanium backup I think.
Thanks,
odin back to stock and then wipe/clear then retry should fix this problem

VZW Update Failed / How to Update Super SU when I have safestrap

Hey guys, basically trying to follow this guide, since I need to wipe - clean and load the new VZW update. Reason being:
3 problems: KNOX Detected in SUPERSU, Can't update, random crashes
SUPERSU has an error Samsung KNOX has been detected. This might limit root capabilities and cause annoying popups. Try to disable KNOX?
edit:I went and downloaded v1.8 and still get the knox error above.
I then went to update and it said "The update was unsuccessful" does this due to me having safe strap installed?
Help info:
My Baseband Version is: N900VVRUBMJ7
Android Version: 4.3
Kernel Version: 3.4.0 [email protected] #1 wed oct 16 18:45:50 KST 2013
Hardware Version N900V.07
On the step by step guide here is what I understand:
1. Download Odin v3.09
2. Question Which download below should I download for my phone????
Official VRUBMJE 4.3- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23252070760975512(Retail locked N3 only)

VZW_32gb.pit- http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23159073880936457
3. Before I install, I went to Titanium Backup and I ran a backup of my apps and SMS data, is there anything else that I should backup?
4. Is it better to wipe my phone first? Right now I experience A LOT of Lag when I open my contacts (10,000) and try to type messages in my sms folder.
Edit:Basically, should I wipe the phone, is there a way to roll it back pre-root so its as if I am intalling root on a fresh device? I have more lag on this phone now than I had when I first had De La Vega (i.e typing lag, sms lag, contact lag)
really appreciate the help!
Best thing is to use Odin. There are many many threads all over on how to use it, so I won't repeat how to. But once you have odin installed, use it to flash an official firmware. Then check for updates in settings on the phone, once booted back up. Make sure it says it is up to date (mje). If not, allow it to update. Then use kingo (check Google) to root. Then install safestrap. If you followed all that, you should be good. If SuperSU gives that Knox message, allow it to disable knox.
My personal opinion, once you've rooted successfully, install a custom rom with safestrap. That way you won't have any knox messages.

So I need to do this today, really appreciate the help.
I looked around for the threads, it seems there are a lot of threads discussing how people brick their phones after moving to Odin.
Anyway you or someone else could be a good friend and send me a quick how to? I first did:
1. Rooted with De La Vega,
2. OTA updated last month
3. Kingo Root fix
4. Safestrap to put in SuperSU and get rid of Kingo.
I take it with Odin the process is:
1. Kies / Odin??? Not sure
2. OTA update 1
3. OTA update 2
4. Kingo Root
5. Safe Strap 3.65
6. Look up how to remove Kingo
7. Super SU
Actually the best thing to do is to download the latest .tar file. It's on a thread in the dev section. I'm not sure if it has the matching .pit file with it. But if not, grab that as well. That way there is no worries about being on the current rev.
Then root with kingo, install safestrap, and update SuperSU.
Then you should be golden.

Booted up as a stock rom with no issues for me, used kingo to root, and installed ss. But like I said, only do this if you feel like you are comfortable doing so. Because you are effectively booting out of recovery to download with no way back but odin.

K Thanks, the only reason I was asking was since the MJ7 download was 2.2GB(N900VVRUBMJ7_N900VVZWMJ7_N900VVRUBMJ7_HOME.tar)
and
MJE was 1.4GB was a big difference in size so I dont want to install and mess it up
So I will install this one which is almost 1.4GB
ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
Thats correct right?
Would love your input.
Knox is Samsung's new fancy security software. Don't know much about it except it can get a bit wonky.
If all you use is the original ROM with root and safestrap, you got knox, bloatware, and Verizon crap. If you know how to get it "all" out, then that's fine. But a custom ROM will have all that weeded out with other tweaks and mods. This is usually the best way to go. Custom ROM's are in the development thread.
As far as you're phone running slow, I got a few things for you. First reboot to recovery and under wipe/advanced wipe, wipe dalvik cache and cache then reboot. If that doesn't help, you may need factory reset. You will not loose root by doing that.

Hi I'm wondering if you can help me- I tried to follow az_biker's instructions about rooting installing recovery and flashing ROMs. I'm on NC4, rooted with towelroot, installed busybox, safestrap 3.75, root checker and Chainfire's SuperSu. I was unable to flash or install baja rom. Then in step 8- and in Odin, downloading to target- getting the phone recognized in the hilighted 'ID-COM' and one line in the messages 'ADDED!'. When hitting 'AD' to find the MJE tar file, it was nowhere to be founnd. I even put the file on my desktop but for some reason Odin just dosent see it. I did finally install the Baja 4th of July version since this was a prior step and downloaded it which could only be found in the downloads. In Safestrap I found the zip file and did another wipe, hit back, advanced, wiped all but sd card then installed it. In the process it did say 'can't find MD5 file and continued and did finish- 'installed successfully'. When trying to reboot system, the phone goes dead. The only thing I can do at this point is remove the battery and boot into recovery but system will not boot. I'd gladly send a donation to anyone that could shed some light this and tell me what to do, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Were you on NC4 initially and rooted it or were you on MJE and upgraded to NC4? Are you unzipping the file before you try looking for it with Odin and are you using the AP section in Odin? Have you tried booting into the stock recovery and doing a factory reset?

Hi thanks for posting- I bought the phone and within 2 weeks the OTA for kitkat came out so I took it. The baseband is NC4 now and I dont know what it was before kk upgrade. Yes using the AP button in Odin. The title of the MJE tar file is this:
ALL_N900VVRUBMJE_N900VVZWMJE_2106277_REV03_user_low_ship_MULTI_CERT.tar.md5
This file does not seem to be zipped up and it has a blank piece of paper for an icon. .
I now see where the md5 came from. I cannot do anything but remove battery and put back in then it only boots into safestrap. Another mistake I made was not making a backup of the stock rom. Any suggestions?

You can't use the MJE tar file since you took the OTA, you would need the NC4 full tar file. You should be able to boot into download mode from SS or by turning the device off and holding down Home, then Volume down, then Power. You can try doing a factory reset in the stock recovery by holding down Home, Volume up and Power.

Ok, I downloaded 7zip and am extracting that file. it finished and I had hit vol dwn, power and menu button and when the first screen came up, I hit vol up and am currently in download mode 'Downloading... Do not turn off target'. After the file was extracted into the same name with a manilla file folder icon which was now then recognized by Odin in the AP an advanced on its own and is currently at this state- (screenshot) I attached- let me know if you can see it?

If you haven't installed theh MJE file, or actually even if you have, just boot back into download mode and flash the NC4 file in Odin.

Once you boot into the stock NC4 ROM root it with TowelRoot, install SU, BusyBox and SS 3.75. Boot into SS and install BAJA ROM then before rebooting go into download mode through SS and flash the file in the link below.

I really do appreciate it, I ended up flashing the firmware file through Odin and installing that way then pulling the battery and it booted into baja but weather, email, google etc. all stopped working errors constantly. Any idea how to fix?. I take it you're a developer? Anyway, I'm TJ

Did you wipe data, cache and dalvik before installing Baja? I'm not a developer, I just enjoy messing around with my devices and I like helping people out when I can.

It is so nice to see the decent and patient people that are willing to help those that ask for it.

You don't need to redownload it. You should wipe everything but the Micro SDcard whenever you install a new ROM. You won't have the errors once you wipe everything and install the ROM again.
