[Q] Help plz Unfortunately Samsung Text to speech engine has stopped" - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Please help someone. I rooted and installed titanium backup and superuser and busy box successfully on my AT&T galaxy s4. Had no problems whatsoever with that process. Went buttery smooth..
However, when I go into my GALLERY or a lot of other options, I automatically have this error pop up which freezes my phone for anywhere from 5 seconds to 30, sometimes having to reboot entirely and it keeps happening no matter what I do. The error says "Unfortunately Samsung Text to Speech Engine has stopped" all I can do is click OK but it keeps happening. I read a post from 2010 with the Galaxy S I believe it was stating there was a similar issue and it involved KIES software but those instructions didn't help me.
Has anyone else had this issue? If so, how can I correct it? Thank you

Sorry, disregard my post below. I found out how to fix it. I feel like an idiot. Please delete or lock this thread

Do this...
Go into Settings then go into My device then go to Language and input then go to Test-to-speech options and select Google Text-to-speech engine and then remove Samsungs TTS on Titanium Backup and it shouldn't do it as it don't do it on mine no more...
Hope that helps...

If this happens it's probably because you removed ChatON.

EDIT: I actually went into settings-language-text to speech, and chose Google instead of Samsung, and it worked. I also disabled ChatOn and it still works. Hopefully this helps.

They're right. I deleted chaton also butour had a backup I restored. You probably need to put the chaton apk back into the system/app folder, and give it rw-r-r permissions, then reboot and you should be good. I'd use X-plore app to do this

solved it by going to the tts settings and downloading a language to tts

Solved for me as well thx to your advice guys!! Thank you all!!

Another option
I did the exact same thing. Deleted some bloat ware (including chat on) and S Voice stopped working correctly. Kept getting "unfortunately text to speech engine stopped" error. Even though I had a back up on TB I it didn't fix the error message. I tried changing from samsung to google text to speech but then my S Voice didn't work. Finally I just unrooted it (youtube How to Unroot & Unbrick galaxy s4). Very simple and straight forward. It took it back to factory firmware, then I just rooted it again. And now I'm obviously not going to delete chat on. Just thought I'd share for anyone who uses S Voice a lot.

Just load up your firmware file again and it will restore everything back to normal.

How do I do that? Pls be kind to explain
Sent from my GT-I9500.. A former blackberry user

What fixed it for me was a combination of suggested solutions.
- install ChatOn and ChatOn Video and Voice Calling from the Play store
- change Language and Input TTS options to Google
a. Freeze Samsung text to speech with Titanium - this will make all apps use Google TTS instead
or
b. Convert Samsung text to speech to a user app in Titanium - now you can select it again and download HD voice packs to actually use the samsung TTS which sounds really good with the new packs.
- (optionally) uninstall ChatOn and ChatOn Video

Follow this thread in case you want to remove Bloatware the right way.

will you please please help put chaton step by step im new to this and im affraid i will damage my phone. please help

What actually fix my phone was flashing the latest firmware via pc odin. Because I download chaton it didn't work, I did everything mentioned and nothing worked for me. So I freeze samsung tts through titanium backup and kept using Google tts. That will solve it but I prefer samsung tts cos the voice is clear so I flashed my firmware and got all my apps back working.

Another path
Thanks for the posts, it definitely is ChatOn causing the issue. I was able to restore Samsung TTS doing the following
1. Restore ChatOn - requires a reboot
2. Restore Samsung TTS
got it back and avoided unrooting, or attempting reloading firmware.
Hope this helps!

Thanks! But I think I solve it. With Titanium Backup I converted S Voice and Samsung TTS in user apps and it worked. After that I chose Samsung text-to-speech engine (Settings>MyDevice>Language and input>Text-to-Speech option), then Installed English (Install voice data) and that's it!

[Q] S-Voice not working, tells mic is in use by another app

When launching S-Voice I get the message "It seems that another application is using the microphone. Please close it and try again"(translation from Spanish).
This started after installing Samsung HD TTS(UK English and Spanish) but uninstalling and clearing data did not solve. Also tried stopping all services related to speech and wiping system and Dalvik cache.
My device is a GT-I9500 running MJ5 Android Jellybean 4.3.
Any clues? Thanks in advance.
More info
Addendum: Tried other apps which make use of mic(Google Now, video recorder, Skype). They all work fine, looks like the issue is related to S-Voice only; in such case maybe removing S-Voice, data/cache and related services and reinstalling could help.
Does anyone know how to do that on 4.3 MJ5 JB?
Thanks in advance.

[Q] Error 403 of Google Play on Samsung Galaxy S4 I9502

Dear All,
For more than a week, I have been frustrating about the 403 error on my Galaxy I9502 Duos. I have searched many places on the Internet, and I still couldn't make it work. The problem is really killing me, and I spent the whole last night writing emails with and trying solutions from Google support team, and in the end, they said they couldn't help me due to that my cellphone is a rooted device. That's ridiculous! How could I have the Google Apps without rooting my I9502?
So I have tried many ways that I can find, but still, the problem is not solved, please help me and you are my last hope!
Here are the information:
1. I'm using a stock rom based on Android 4.2.2:
Baseband version: I9502ZNUCMH3
Build number: JDQ39.I9502ZNUCMH4
2. I installed below package:
gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip
3. Methods I have tried:
3.a I have found below link in xda, and tried below methods, and it doesn't help:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1567456
3.a.1: Wiping cache, clear data, clear cache and force stop all below components and restart:
Google Play Store, Google Play Store Service, Google Services Framework
But this doesn't work!
3.a.2: Remove Account:
And I even tried to add another google account of my family, but still doesn't work as well!
3.a.3: Reset both two APNs to the default:
Note, I mainly use WIFI. And both two APN has been reset to default. But this doesn't work!
3.a.4: Using proxy:
I have GAEProxy and Ladder Trial installed. But this doesn't work no matter the proxy is opened or closed.
3.a.5: Revert back to the old play store:
I am using the oldest play store together with gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip, and obvious this doesn't work too.
3.a.6: Switch to another account:
I switched to another google account, but this doesn't work.
3.a.6: Factory Reset
I didn't do this yet, but I am seriously thinking about this。。。
4. Beside this problem, I also found that my browser can not access mail.google.com
And there is a similar error message:
403. That’s an error.
Your client does not have permission to get URL /2 from this server. That’s all we know.
All, I have tried all my best, and still, I can't figure out this problem. Please help me!!!!!
Thanks.

Really? I really have no idea how to install Google App without root on Galaxy S4 I9502 ? Could you please shed some light on it? Thanks!
In addition, I personally think this is not a issue relate to root as my worked phoned had worked for month until this came up suddenly.
Have tried almost the same thing...
I've done almost the same things as wangmengj (except for trying another google account). Still no success.
My device is an UMI X1 :cyclops:
Also:
My google play doesn't update by himself, but I tried removing all updates (reset to version 3.3x.sumthin'), then manually installed the newest version (I believe it is 4.4.22).
Still no success.

I have no idea what're you doing and why.
First of all, to check if your Google account is OK, log in from laptop, desktop or other PC to Google Play.
Error 403 usually means that the server refuses your authentication, in other words: you do not have the credentials accepted by the server.
If using PC you'll have same error - that would mean that there is something wrong with the account.
Second, usually (it was same in case of ALL my android phones) - the Google Play was part of the ROM and was accessible as soon as I input the Google account settings. And definitely, installing the apps using the Google Play does NOT requires root, otherwise ALL android phones would be rooted as sold.
Hi,
I am also getting the same error and had done the same as the above including a factory reset. Still I am getting the same error. I can login to my account via pc but I cannot go to my google setting via my tablet's web browswer. I also realised my device is no longer listed in my google play under setting (via PC). Can someone shed some light to it?
I had the exact same problem on my I9502, and now all settled. Here's what I've done:
- Find app "Root Explorer" and install it.
- With RE, go to root/etc
- Delete the file "hosts" or simply change its name.
Then it should work!

I have had this problem for months now.
I too have been back and forth with google "support" via email, they are ****ing useless.
The issue is on THEIR end.
When I login to the play store on my computer, and I try and download an app, it throws and error immediately after clicking install - it has nothing to do with my device, the issue exists with my account on their end somewhere, but they refuse to acknowledge this and fix it, I really don't know what to do.

hi all,
is there any solution to this issue without dealing with root ?
I have already tried all the exist idea...

cant reinstall Google Search

Hi, I've got a problem I cant fix.
I wanted to downgrade Google Search so I uninstalled updates and it went back to stock. I then installed the version I wanted. v3.1
Now, this is my problem. I DONT want it to show in Google Play as an update so I tried to make a updated APK like I have with many other apps where I like older versions.
Now I used Lucky Patcher and that didn't like making the modded APK but it did back a backup. So I clicked RESTORE BACKUP. and guess what? It deleted the app instead of restoring it.
Now when I try to install it from either any APK or even directly from Google Play it keeps saying the device is full and fails to install.
I have over 1GB free. I've deleted about 10 apps and still keeps saying device is full. I've reinstalled those 10 apps and they fit and install without problems and I still have over 1GB free.
HOW do i get Google Search reinstalled? I dont want to reflash it as I will loose ROOT and that was a big enough ***** to install the first time.
I have a stock recovery menu. Rooted Galaxy S4 i9505 4.3 official firmware.
I did delete delvik cache and the cache in recovery menu.
I cant find any other ways to restore it? I tried titanium backup with the backup I have of it but that never ends when I click restore. It doesn't finish, doesn't do anything just sits there saying its restoring but never stops still I kill it even after 30 mins it was still restoring.
Anyone??
I did try Titanium Backup and made a update.zip and that fails both from SDCARD and ADB as its not signed and its stock recovery.
Do I have to install a custom recovery? Can I use the one I used with 4.2.2 or do I have to get a 4.3 version? That was i9505-cwm-recovery-6.0.3.2-4.tar
Anyone?
I'm stumped. I dont have a clue whats going on and why it wont install and why its saying its full when its got 1GB free.

Thanks for the reply.
Was hoping not to do that.
BUT, everything still works without it anyway and as it stole the use of my Bluetooth button it wont be missed but I do like the Google Now alerts.
What happened with me was the latest few versions stole the link to the bluetooth button. Before when you pressed the button you had the option of S-Voice or Google Search and now the newer versions dont have that option and always use Google Search and you have no way to revert back to S-Voice. I had Google Search disabled for a while but I want to use Google Now so I need the app but not the new version so an old version works fine. I think the last is 3.1? I didn't try 3.2 but I know 3.4 has that forced Google Search now.

I got it installed and fixed a few other apps at the same time.
I went to root /data/data and found the google search was a 0kb file so I deleted it and it installed fine after that. I also had a few other apps that were playing up so I deleted those folders and they now install and work fine.
So in the end no need to reflash just remove the corrupt files and its all fixed.
I did find out Google Search 3.3 is the last of the good versions, 3.4 is when it steals your bluetooth's connection and uses it for its own without letting you choose default.
As S-Voice is a Samsung feature those not with a Samsung phone wont care but those like me that use S-Voice will be annoyed that the latest Google Search removes the choice. I recommend to disable so it goes back to default version then get v3.3 and install that and use an app to remove it from updating in Google Play then all will be good.
it's solved right?
but anyway maybe you could try to flash gapps . Don't now if it will works but i good to try anyway ;D

When uninstalling on stock, you only delete apk file. You have also to delete corresponding odex odex file in system/
Then, you have to remove also corresponding folder in system/data/data
Then, you can try to reinstall the app.

I fixed it. There was a corrupt file in /data/data and as soon as I deleted it, it finally installed fine after that.
Now trying to stop Google Play from upgrading and also removing it from the update list is another problem.

I do that and it doesn't work with Titanium Backup.
I want to remove it completely so it doesnt even see it in the Google play store.
In Titanium Backup you can remove it from Google Play but that option doesn't work as I've had it removed twice and its updated both times.
So far its working. I've turned it into a user app and removed it from the store and its not updated yet but I will give it till tomorrow and if it auto updated like the last 2 times I will just uninstall it again and not use it. Its more trouble than its worth anyway.

I want it installed, I want to use Google Now but I don't want to update to the bad version and I don't want Google Play to keep telling me there is an update so I want it removed from Google Play.
As I said Titanium Backup does have a "Detach from Market" option which does remove it but after a few hours it updates anyway so that option doesn't work.
When you make a custom APK it's not seen in the Market so that works but Google Search doesn't work when you customise the APK.

In GPlay's settings, there are options "do not update automaticly" and, the first one "do not notify about updates"

I've unticked that box so Google Search won't auto update but it's still in the update list and it still gives notifications that it needs to be updated.
It needs to be removed from Google Play, that's the only way to stop it from updating or asking to update and it's the only app I can't customise that I've tried. I've modded many apps and they work and they are removed from Google Play but this one I can't.
I also want other apps to auto update so I dont want to turn that option off.

YES YOU CAN.
Just install Market Fixer and that removed it. But it does sometimes show up after a reboot. I rebooted twice and it showed up the first time but not the 2nd time.
So it looks like I've fixed the problem.
Titanium Backup's 'Detach from Market' doesn't work but Market Fixer does the same thing and that does work.
The problem I think is its a system app, its used by my Google account, its used by half the system so its not easy to hide from the App Store. As other apps aren't used the same way they are easily hidden but Google Search isn't.

Help please!

So yesterday I was browsing the Google Play Store when I noticed Google keyboard wasn't installed even though I have it so I attempt to install it again and it failed. I thought it was just a bug so I left it and the next day when I restarted my phone Google keyboard just disappeared. I can't use it anymore I can only third-party keyboard from playstore. Help please I need to get Google keyboard back because I'm so far not liking third-party keyboard. I don't know what I did wrong but tried to fix it by wiping system data and reflash the ROM and G apps but that didn't fix it. So please help me fix this problem thank you in advance.

It says "this app conflict with the existing app by the same name" Google keyboard doesn't show up on titanium backup though.
In your apps settings, check for disabled apps and see if it's there to reenable

How do I do that I'm running cm 14.1 android 7.1 and I don't see that option. BTW if I select show system apps, it's not in there either. BTW I just tested, disable apps will show up on titanium back-up as frozen and a option to defrost but google keyboard isn't even in titanium back-up.
