Weird issue, ear piece no sound? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi i wanted some suggestions here:
I was running PA latest went to maake a phone call and can't hear ringing or anyone on the other end. I went back to stock thinking it was a PA bug and no sound still.. No water damage and it did work fine..
Odd thing is if I call through vonage I have ear piece sound.
*Just an update, I did recently flash a new radio .27.. maybe thats the cause. Going to switch back and see.

Distorted calls through speaker after WM6.5 upgraded

Anyone else having this issue? This is a straight up legit T-Mobile phone with stock ROM and WM6.5 upgrade. I've noticed that calls through the speaker are now distorted, blue tooth clarity remains fine though.
Hmmm...no one?

Mine after the upgrade sounds fine
I've had the same issue the entire time I've had my Dash. Right out of the box I had distortion and a crackling in the speaker - i thought i might have had a bad connection on that particular phone call. After flashing - about a month agio, it's continued. As frustrating as TMobile makes me at times, I dont want to try to hash it out with them. I might reflash to see if that helps but I'[m afraid it wont

Could be hardware related, if the contacts are dirty or the speaker is not set properly it will crack.. could be a bad batch of devices.. get a new one under warranty if possible. I got three Dash 3G's the first day they came out and all three sound fine.
Finally couldn't take it anymore and took it back to the T-Mobile store. The new one should arrive this week.
Hi Rotagilla, would be interested to hear if the new one had the same loudspeaker distortion. mine does the same thing and has done from new. i just thought it was a crap quality speaker

The replacment phone just got sent back and I'm now on #3. The same issue happened again...calls started off very clear but then seemed to degrade to the point where unless I was using BT, the audio quality was terrible. I'm not upgrading the phone to WM6.5 at this time, I'm going to wait and see if the same thing happens again. BTW, the TMO rep I dealt wth most recently was excellent...really first class all the way.
Looks like the speaker will continue to be a last resort. BT seems the only way to get clear reception. thanks.....i dont like my chances with a replacement from Telstra. The only thing that disappoints me with this one is not being able to edit the menu items and not having the Voice Dialling tags. replacing it with the Voice Command is a quantum leap backward, otherwise a great phone.
Well the most recent replacement has started doing the same thing. I did not upgrade to WM6.5 and this one lasted the longest before giving in to the speaker distortion gremlin. Pretty bummed about this, guess I'll just have to live with it.

No sound from other caller on earpiece

Hi All.. I posted this in Energy thread in deveopment but I think it is more suited to be answered here... anyone please help before my friend defects back to Apple!

OK Strange one here - hope someone can help!
I flashed older cookie on to HD2 for a friend and took phone to her in Malaysia - all seemed well but phone was freezing apparently so her brother went to HTC asia site and downloaded a ROM for it! GRRRR
Anyway it was a T-Mobile rom or something with a '51' radio. Since then when she makes a call she can not hear the other person through the earpiece (but can through the headset!) , but CAN hear a busy tone if the person is already on a call when she calls!
So I flashed latest Cookie Dinik style back on and replaced the Radio with 2.07.50.** and still the same!
I don't understand how the earpiece can make the busy sound but not hear the voice, yet headphone works?! I have connected remotely and used MyMobiler to see screen of HD2 and looked for anything that may be causing it but all seems fine.
If anyone has any ideas please help as she is about to go back to an iPhone after just moving to this HD2 on my say so!

hmm thats an odd issue and I would be suprised if anyone else has encountered it :S
are you positive its the ear piece speaker thats making the busy sound and not the loudspeaker on the back of the device?
also have you tried swapping between loudspeaker and normal handset mode? does the call work in loudspeaker mode but not normal speaker mode?

Good idea with the loudspeaker mode - will ask her to check that. Can't see how a rom flash could cause it - hope it's not faulty hardware!
I had a similar problem with my HD2: I wasn't able to hear my counterpart. I have tried several radio/ROM combinations with no luck. Looking at the test results I guessed it was a sporadic hardware issue of the earpiece. Sent the phone off to service, they confirmed the problem, replaced the earpiece and shipped it back, all free. Great service!
Of course, I had to restore to factory settings beforehand, including the original SPL, radio and ROM. If the phone is still under warranty I would suggest you try a hardware repair.

no sound from speaker

hello i just bought a used samsung fascinate have had them before and i like it so much i got one again...well ive notice that when i recieve a call i get no sound, no sound on notification, but i can hear when i am on a call or listening to music with a headphone jack plugged in not when i turn the speaker on during a call or without the headphone jack....there is a solution for a samsung captivate but i have a fascinate...so if anyone knows how to fix please help
thanks
Which OS are you on? I had some sound issues when I first flashed CM7 a while back.
this phone is running 2.3.5 stock non root
Not really sure why it's doing that unless there is a hardware issue going on. If you haven't rooted and you are on stock, try bringing it back to Verizon. They are gonna make you do a factory reset to see if it will fix the issue, so not really sure if you want to do that or not! If you aren't rooted, you can't backup your apps.

Problem with microphone on headphones after nougat update

My wife and I both updated to Nougat a couple of days ago. Love it overall. We've only had one problem and it's the same one. The microphone on the headphones no longer works on either of our phones. We have looked at every setting we can find to see if somehow there is a toggle that can be changed or something. No luck this far. Are we missing a setting that can fix this? Has anyone else had this problem?
I just noticed this is likely the wrong section for this question. I don't see how to move it. My apologies.

I am having the same problem, I must have factory reset twice and the problem still persists.
I don't think that it is the hardware, I feel it is the software and a nasty bug.
The volume with mine comes and goes and when I am speaking on the phone during speaker mode, they can't hear me.
You are not alone abit that this bug is not affecting a lot of users, but it does exist.

Glad to hear it isn't just my wife and I. A friend of ours has an Edge also on T-Mobile and the upgrade didn't have the same result for them. Hoping a workaround is figured out or an update to fix the issue.

My issue was previous to the update so it has to be a bug with the Android 6.1 os and sound (still happens with 7.0)
This will happen when I am streaming Youtube for more than 10 minutes, the volume will drop while the video is still playing. Then it will come back on within a minute to 30 seconds randomly.
When I am having a phone call using the speaker phone, the volume will drop. The other person on the phone can't hear me but I can hear them.. I have to turn off speaker phone and cradle the phone like a normal person would, thus not able to use the speaker phone.
When I am having a phone call hands free when I am driving using bluetooth, the conversation will start out ok , but then after 3 minutes or so, the other person can't hear me. I can hear them but they cant hear me. I have to turn off bluetooth and cradle the phone.
I hope there is a patch for this or a root being released to that I can flash another rom to get around this nasty bug.
Dear markmain2. 0
Do you have still this issue or solved it?
I have no issue after upgrade. Did you have chance to change the other earpiece or original one.
this has been an issue since the BETA. apparently they don't listen lol. has to be software related, if someone has time they could always revert to MM and see if it works again

Helloo there,
I recently (barely 2 weeks ago, gave in to temptation) upgraded my 6 month old S7 edge to nougat. Couple of days after the update mid-call handsfree mic goes MIA.
Switched headsets having intermittent mic outage again.
Did you manage to sort it out ??
Any help would be much appreciated. My work involves being on the phone 7-8 hours a day and I need to be handsfree ona wired headset.
Just cant be done without.

NeXus 6p - problem with calls

Hi, when I make or recieve a call as soon as I click the call or answer button the screen goes black. And I can't hear anything thru the ear speaker. However, when I put it on speaker it stays normal. What can cause this issue?
Thank you for your help guys
Which Rom? February based? Check other Roms or update your current
Yeah what ROM are you using?? I have this similar problem when I use PureNexus ROM and his gapps. I think there is an issue with the google phone apk. Whenever I use stock or Nitrogen ROM I have no problems.
