I bought a used Color NOOK from a boy who lived in Rio de Janeiro, I'm in Manaus/Amazonas. The fisrt time I boot it appears a screen with 9 little balls that I assumed to be a password, asking the boy who sold me the Color NOOK what was this key he told me that he forgot it. Now I ask you: How can I open my Color NOOK without this password, I had tryed a lot of sequences but is almost impossible to "hit" the right one. Any hint or suggestion? Thanks a lot for any help.
Hmm.. if you are a total newbie regarding Android, well then you could ask technicians in your place what could be the probable solutions to your problem.
As I can see the only way is through email. Does it show "Forgot Pattern?" when you enter too many incorrect patterns? Tap on that, and ask the boy if he remembers the email's password.
Wait, is the device running Android 4.0+?

dear experts
i recieved a G2 HERO unit from a freind,
he was palying with it and then it write on LCD,PLz login with ur google account to unlock screen.
this unit he bought second hand ,he donno any account, also no internet connection,
so, if i make hardrest and formated it, i think it will ask for registration as old dreamG1 phones
anyway to bypass it without have internt or data plan,
i already searched a lot , but not find anything help
best regards
thx in adavnce
I could tell you how to get round the pattern lock that is asking you for the Google account information (I presume this is what the issue is - the pattern of dots you need to draw on the screen)
But... If I write the instructions on clearing the pattern lock here, someone else could come along here in future and read the instructions on removing the lock and use it on a stolen phone.
I notice you have been a user on XDA for a while, so I trust you, but I don't really think it is responsible to tell anyone how to get round the pattern lock (being as you can then access all the messages/contacts on the phone), due to potential for mis-use by someone else in future.
Hope you understand.
PS. What I will say is that I am not aware of any need to activate the phone (I've got a G2 and didn't need to activate it at all. It did ask me for a Google account, but that was optional and only for syncing calendar, contacts & mail etc.
if you can operate google you can find the necessary information to bypass the lockscreen anyway. a hardreset is suggested, you want a clean phone, not the one your precessor customized for his needs, do you? so just reset it, and the lock will be gone with the reset... there is no need to have a google account, but keep in mind that you won't be able to use the market (and other minor stuff) without a google account...
Yeah. That's what I alluded to, but forgot to write- just do a hard wipe to get rid of it.
@kendon for some reason, people don't seem to know the method. The number of times I've seen it asked on other forums is ridiculous, yet it is sooooo easy to find out. Hint: Google is your friend.
hello
thx for ur replay and trust
i really appriacte
i will call freind to bring, its my turn to play now

thx in advance

yeah well, that is not only the problem with a locked phone... just saying "how can i root my phone", "is apps2sd working" and so on...
edit: right on cue: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=612254
Oh god... It's not this bad on modaco though . Damn. Now I've mentioned the forum, I bet you we start getting this kind of thing over there (it never seems to be so bad over there, being as most are there for MCR so are competent in rooting etc.)
I'm pulser on modaco btw, but some no-posts user has taken my name. Might do what you did and go for pulser_g2 or something like that and start again...
(I know this is gonna sound stupid question )
I set up a lock pattern and wanted to see what happens after a few times of incorrect entering it. So, I entered the paterrn 5 times and it said to wait 30 sec. I noticed there is an option to click "Forgot password" and unlock by using the Google account.
Well, I am inserting my google account and password (The correct one ) but it DOES NOT unlock my phone!
Guys, I'm stuck without a mobile... any thing I can do?
Thanks,
David
OK. I succeeded to perform a "Hard reset".
Lost apps, contact and calendar occasions, but at least I can use my mobile.
Thanks any way.
LMAO! Just couldn't resist doing it ey? Doing something your not ment to always makes a person feel good, until you land yourself in crap. But i guess that's how we learn. At least you know what happens when putting in the wrong code 5 times, and now you know how to fix it when all else fails.

If we wouldn't get wrong we wou'd never learn.
But in fact my question is a little bit more than just "what happens if..." Because I did insert the correct details for my Google account, and it still wasn't unlocked. The question is: Why?
So I rooted my mom's Kindle Fire using instruction from kindlefirewire.com (who credits xda). Some of you may know Jeff, he explains this stuff in laymans terms and sometimes makes demenstration videos for those of us who are less tech inclined.
Anyway, it's been running great. I installed Go Launcher Ex, Market, and several other Android apps.
today my mom tells me she can't use her Fire because it wants a password. I come over to check it out and sure enough, upon unlocking the screen, the keyboard is displayed and at the top it says, "Sorry, try again".
We've tried putting in her Amazon password but it continues to say, "Sorry, try again".
Anyone know of a solution short of restoring it?
If it is just the standard android password screen then it should timeout after a certain number of tries, it will then require you to use your email and email password (?) to log in

Just rooting would not put a password on it I assume it is on the Lockscreen?
My nephew drank too much Southern Comfort the other night and password protected his Win. 7 Computer and forgot the password.
Your mother had to have put the password on it and I am not saying your mother drinks, Just sayin.
No, she stopped drinking even wine several years ago.
But I'm starting to think you're right. she must have inadvertently gone into settings and tapped the lock screen setting.
At her age, these things can be confusing. She does pretty good though, at 85!
Anyway, I reset it and re-rooted. First thing I did after that was install Titanium Back up!!!
Have you tried her gmail password?

OMG!!!! I'm sorry but that was just flat out funny!!!
Thanks for the laugh!
Not sure if something is wrong or if I just can't seem to find the right setting, or if Google intentionally made it so, but any time I try to purchase an app I get prompted for my password. I don't recall this behavior on my Galaxy Nexus and my wife took that with her to the middle East on business since she's on Verizon (without a "world phone") so I can't verify this right now.
Can anyone school me on this?

a four digit PIN or your gmail password? If it's a PIN you can disable it in settings, if it's your gmail password i got no clue, don't have a N4 yet

Pin or Google password? If pin disable in settings. If Google password something in settings must be doing it. I can buy without entering anything.

yes this is new to the latest play store update so it is normal
It does it for me too and is annoying as hell! I am gonna add the pin and hopefully it will only ask for that as my password is long and a pita to enter. Hate this new feature, at least give us the option...
Why would they do this without am option to disable it!? That's one thing I loved about Google play after coming from my ipod touch where the ios app store would ask for the password every time.

Long story short...i setup a fingerprint a few weeks back, didnt use it for a while and now I want to delete it.
Except now my phone refuses to recognise my fingerprint no matter which way i swipe it...
on top of that i'm retarded and forgot the alternate password too.
Is factory resetting the only way?
EDIT: Fingerprint is not set as my passcode, I just have it registered. My passcode is a separate PIN code.

Oh thanks, I don't mean I can't get into my phone.
I have a separate PIN code set as my passcode and I have a fingerprint that is registered that I want to delete, but to delete the fingerprint I need the alternate password, which i have forgotten lol. When I swipe it many times and it fails, it just asks me for the alternate password.

Only way I can think of is if you have a custom recovery installed enter it and factory reset or something.

Oh i see what you mean now..
for now all i can think of is factory reset.. will try to find out..
Thanx
Update: I found this. But i dont know if this also removes the alternative password.. i just located my phone but i cant check anything else
cause im at work.. need my phone..
go online to android device manager log in with your google log in wait till it locates your phone u then click to lock your device it asks you for a new password. It over rides whatever password or lock feature u have on it. Then you get phone type the new password and boom problem solved.

Be advised--if you have registered fingerprints, perform a full/data Nandroid, and later restore, your fingerprints and alternate password may no longer work. The effect is the same as what the OP experienced. It seems like the only way to resolve the issue at this time is to reset.
This problem also affects the Note 4 and Edge. See thread here:

I am offering in the general Q/A forum $25 for anyone who comes up with a method to wipe/clear/delete the fingerprint registration when the registered fingerprints and alternate/backup passwords don't work.

A friend of mine is in real trouble. She bought her s5 for christmas and travelled. She took amazing photos and made National Geographic material videos, including of melting glaciers. when she was on a cruise for the new year, the phone locked her out due to the fingertip lock. The worse part: She wasn´t using it, when she got it from her coat pocket it was already locked. When she went to the Samsung store they told her to do a Hard Reset since the option to unblock with the google id wasn´t appearing. Before I found out that maybe she could´ve tried to unlock with samsumg lost my phone or google remote she did the reset and lost all her stuff. Tried 3 different recovery apps and all of them requires rooting. Not only we´re not confident enough, she wants to return it to Samsung and rooting voids the warranty. Is there any other way?
I even thought about taking the phone to a computer assistance to see if they can do something
