Hey all, debating between these two and can't really find any new reviews or comparisons between them. I know nova is more widely used but the new apex looks pretty good as well. What do you recommend?

I've always had smoother performance and less trouble with Nova.

Hmm.. Nova is beautiful, really customizable and smooth on my Nexus 7. SmoothROM + Franco kernel.
Does anyone want to give me a key for it? Haha.

I used Nova on my S3 and started having a stutter when scrolling to a home page full of widgets. It was the same on my S4 so I tried Apex and haven't looked back. Buttery smooth.

I've tried both, and preferred (and fewer problems with) Nova.
Nova is what I have running right now on my S4
I have paid versions of both. They both have some advantages over the other, but I use Apex because the transitions are just a bit smoother,
Apex here. Love it.
Using nova Prime and never had a stutter. Even before the OTA

Argh so torn. I'm using both right now to see what I like better. Not the paid versions yet just the regular.
Thanks for all your feedback.

Nova Pro does a little more than Apex Pro... I have both loaded anyway.
Nova Prime here...
Apex here. Both are great, but apex is more touch sensitive IMO. (At least on my phone, and I guess the performance is device and rom dependent)
Another for Nova prime...

Nova Prime here. Silky smooth since day one.

Nova prime all the way!
Another vote for Apex Pro
Apex .. coz apex has more features .. tried nove but moved back to apex

Apex has always givenme lag problems. Especially on this phone. Nova just seems like a smoother experience.
Sent from my Galaxy S4 using Tapatalk
I'm using Nova now. Everything works great, especially after disabling all the useless stuff.
I used Nova Prime for quite a while but it really started to lag so I switched to Apex Pro. Apex Pro has absolutely no lag on my current phone.
The only thing I don't like about Apex is that when l use the Any Cut app Apex doesn't render the icon pic in the center of the icon the correct size.

I'm sure this has come up before but when your looking for an opinion its not a simple search, its 90% of the net. I have not gone cm9 yet but I'm preparing. I'm looking at launchers. Comes with trebochet, I hear great things about nova. I'm a huge launcher pro fan but feel obligated to leave it in favor ofan ics launcher otherwise I might as well stay on GB. I don't think launcher pro will ever be updated again. Suggestions?

<del>Nova pro</del> <ins>Apex</ins> is totally worth the 0 bucks.
Amazing launcher (and its free, which just happens to be my favorite color)

I saw video on Nova but it made no mention of widgets

Try Trebuchet for a bit then try Nova (free fr mkt) + compare w/ launcher pro, ADW ex.......if you like Nova, the paid app, as suggested is well worth the $.

Like I said my only concern with launcher pro is that it will feel like I never left Gb. Defeats the purpose of going to ics

Currently all ICS launchers are essentially the same thing but started with different aspects of the overall goal, they're going to all soon be exactly alike. Nova currently is like what ADW would be like if it were on ICS, Apex is in a sense like LP if Fede were to ever update it, though I think hope for that is gone. And Trebuchet is basically stock or the closest thing to it. When going on comparisons.
That is the best explantion I have heard. That alone will make me try apex first as I am a paying member of launcher pro

Just know that my comparisons were in terms of how they feel when running them, currently none of these apps have their own launcher specific widgets afaik. But Android Pro Widgets should help with that side of the coin.
I've just felt the launcher pro feels so smoth and adw always seemed to have micro studdering to me
Sent from my SPH-D700 using xda premium
you can try them all but you'll quickly find out that apex is the best
it's like nova pro except it's free. the gestures and scroll effects in nova prime are already in free apex. everything else is very similar between the 2. both are very clean and fast. apex is also the better tablet launcher.

So here is what I did. Took myb kindle fire. Put the broke ass version of ics on there. It works but its no where near as smooth. Loaded all the browsers. I think I agree apex is the best right now. Non of them scrolled as smooth as launcher pro but I consider ics on the kindle to be closer pre alpha

Thanks. I'm liking it. They just need to fix preview for seven home screens. The center row goes off center and partly off the screen.

I dunno, I prefer Nova Prime... they seem just about the same though...
Touchwiz is ok but if you want a 'pure Google' experience try using nova launcher. Works great, nice and smooth. Give it a try.
nova or apex. they are the two most popluar stock ics launchers
I received my GS3, rooted, installed TB and restored nova.

Nova seems to be running smoother for me than apex. Definitely enough to tide me over for some aosp love

i got apex...came from pure ics on my craptivate so touchwiz kinda sucked...it was kinda billed as really close to ics but not so much i think...
apex/nova should make it liveable until we get a nice selection of ROMs
Nova is a nice launcher....now that I've figured out there are two ways to control the speed of it I am much happier with it today than I was yesterday. Yesterday I was just adjusting the "animations" speed, somehow I missed the "scroll speed"....now that I've got that worked out it's much better, even with power savings enabled.
Anyone have recommendations on settings for apex that make the phone feel faster?

I downloaded Nova and Apex both yesterday. So far I think I like Nova better. To be honest though I am not sure why people dislike touchwiz. FWIW though I am new to droid coming from iPhone so the learning curve is there either way. I guess it is what you get used to.
Hi guys,
Just wondering what launcher you guys are using?? I used to use Apex on my One X which was awesome but it seems pretty laggy on the note 2 as does Nova and Holo.

No offense, but the stock launcher sucks....I hate being stuck with big icons and low grid arrangement
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ive tried them all. And always come back to go launcher ex.
Reasons to switch from stock. Landscape homescreen view and customise grid layouts and my main two. Add a clock/weather widget from beautiful widgets and happy days.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Go Launcher Ex here too... Though it seems a little less smooth as the stock launcher, I prefer a custom grid (I use 5x6) and icon resizing over a 4x4 grid with too much empty useless space. Why else would you have a 5,5" screen.
A few good improvements on TouchWiz on the Note2 though, are the ability to sort the application list in the app drawer, and a 5 icon dock when running stock.
Yeah, stock launcher sucks donkeys balls for the reason already mentioned- crappy grid arrangement that you can't change. Have tried Ex, it's pretty cool, very smooth. I do prefer Apex but I'd rather have a launcher nice and smooth than laggy.

Nova launcher pro and 6x5 grid, but i miss the context screen on touchwith. When i have some time spare, i test again Go launcher, on my previous phone (Arc S), it unusable, cause it's use too much memory.
I have a page here with a few Android launchers on it, if you fancy trying a few others.

I hated TW on my Galaxy S and Note 1, so I used Go Launcher, Launcher Pro and ADW EX. But on the Note 2, TW seems the smoothest for me switching between screens and opening apps and the app drawer.
I'm using the TW mod that gives me a 5x4 grid plus the dock on the home screen and a 6x5 grid in the app draw.
There's a 6x5 grid mod for the homescreen too.

I just grabbed my note II and compared them, honestly it's really hard to tell but you may be right. TW is the tiniest bit smoother, but it's negligible
I personally use ADW EX, which I find smooth, fast and responsive almost 95% of the time. Anyone has any better ideas what launcher to use for better performance?

+1 for Nova, working well for me
if you don't want much fanciness than Zeam Launcher is for you. However I am personally loving Holo Launcher HD especially with the gestures that can be used with the free version. I installed the APK from dubi's hidebar and now all I have to do to hide the bar is swipe up.
I'm still liking ADW free. The last update was an improvement.

I tried adw., apex, nova, and to be frank 'launcher pro' is the fastest although it is very old and not updated any more but still uasble.
I've been using adw since my D1, but I have a feeling I might be way outdated. . I keep hearing about Nova and Apex. I don't care about frills, but just want the laucher to be smooth abs lightweight. Any suggestions?

Nova :good:
I always used adw, but lately it was feeling a bit sluggish. I've just found a new launcher called smart launcher, that looks good - I like the shortcut main screen it has, it auto-categorises your app drawer which as far as I know no other launcher does, and does everything using 17mb of RAM. It feels really fast compared to ADW.
