Fastest laucher for S4? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been using adw since my D1, but I have a feeling I might be way outdated. . I keep hearing about Nova and Apex. I don't care about frills, but just want the laucher to be smooth abs lightweight. Any suggestions?

Nova :good:

I always used adw, but lately it was feeling a bit sluggish. I've just found a new launcher called smart launcher, that looks good - I like the shortcut main screen it has, it auto-categorises your app drawer which as far as I know no other launcher does, and does everything using 17mb of RAM. It feels really fast compared to ADW.

Smooth => Next Launcher 3D and TSF Launcher...
Faster => Nova...

Thanks for the suggestions, Nova is amazing! There are so many launchers to try, it was helpful narrowing them down.

Any launcher should be fast on the S4. Personally I prefer Nova or Apex over next Launcher or tsf shell because I don't like the weird 3d animations.
Please press thanks if I helped you!

Nova or Zeam.

Your favourite Home / App Launcher for ICS

I recently moved to ICS and my favourite home/app launcher was Go Launcher EX but in ICS uses double a third to double more RAM.
Would welcome suggestions for alternatives, I tried Nova and Apex launchers but I like to put certain apps together in folders and have these folders both in app drawer and option to put its shortcut on home screen. Was unable to this in latter two. (Additionally I like to gesture directly to running apps. )
Let us know your favourite launcher in ICS and whether it gives the above requested function.
Thanks

I'm using Apex and I love it for its speed even if I've not played with all its features yet.
Stock launcher is the best
Teamhacksung ICS 4.03 Build 17
I've been using Nova since its beta12 and i have to say it is very fast and quite customizable... maybe you can try a themable launcher, like ADW, and install an ICS-theme to keep the look...
Try espier launcher.
Its kinda like miui so you won't have an app drawer.

I suggest the TFUI launcher.
Grate, smoothe, and not uses much RAM
Tried Zeam,Go launcher,nova,tsf,apex
Right now feel that Apex is the best one with regards to speed, ease of use & functionality except themes
you can try nova.
Another vote for Nova.
my favorite: go launcher
I try out Nova and apex launcher and finaly sty with the apex launcher because I like it slightly more. Also it is still free with all features and Nove is splitted into light and full version (full cost money). I try also the full Nova version but as I point out apex launcher is my favourite
my favourite is --> Zeam Launcher <-- because it's got old style, (old School ) and just simple to use , with no problems & enough speed for me

Which launcher??

Hi guys,
Just wondering what launcher you guys are using?? I used to use Apex on my One X which was awesome but it seems pretty laggy on the note 2 as does Nova and Holo.

No offense, but the stock launcher sucks....I hate being stuck with big icons and low grid arrangement
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Ive tried them all. And always come back to go launcher ex.
Reasons to switch from stock. Landscape homescreen view and customise grid layouts and my main two. Add a clock/weather widget from beautiful widgets and happy days.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Go Launcher Ex here too... Though it seems a little less smooth as the stock launcher, I prefer a custom grid (I use 5x6) and icon resizing over a 4x4 grid with too much empty useless space. Why else would you have a 5,5" screen.
A few good improvements on TouchWiz on the Note2 though, are the ability to sort the application list in the app drawer, and a 5 icon dock when running stock.
Yeah, stock launcher sucks donkeys balls for the reason already mentioned- crappy grid arrangement that you can't change. Have tried Ex, it's pretty cool, very smooth. I do prefer Apex but I'd rather have a launcher nice and smooth than laggy.

I'm using Nova. On the Note 2, it's the smoothest launcher I've ever used.
For those who doesn't know, the transparency bug in nova is already fixed

I use tsf shell...amazingly innovative and zero lag

Nova launcher pro and 6x5 grid, but i miss the context screen on touchwith. When i have some time spare, i test again Go launcher, on my previous phone (Arc S), it unusable, cause it's use too much memory.
I have a page here with a few Android launchers on it, if you fancy trying a few others.

I hated TW on my Galaxy S and Note 1, so I used Go Launcher, Launcher Pro and ADW EX. But on the Note 2, TW seems the smoothest for me switching between screens and opening apps and the app drawer.
I'm using the TW mod that gives me a 5x4 grid plus the dock on the home screen and a 6x5 grid in the app draw.
There's a 6x5 grid mod for the homescreen too.

Go Launcher Ex All The Way!
Here's Why:
I've also found it to be very smooth and the least glitchy on Jelly Bean.

I just grabbed my note II and compared them, honestly it's really hard to tell but you may be right. TW is the tiniest bit smoother, but it's negligible

[Q] Best Launcher for CM10/PA 2.99?

I personally use ADW EX, which I find smooth, fast and responsive almost 95% of the time. Anyone has any better ideas what launcher to use for better performance?
I am having a good experience with Nova Launchers of customizing and not much laggi-ness

+1 for Nova, working well for me
if you don't want much fanciness than Zeam Launcher is for you. However I am personally loving Holo Launcher HD especially with the gestures that can be used with the free version. I installed the APK from dubi's hidebar and now all I have to do to hide the bar is swipe up.
I'm still liking ADW free. The last update was an improvement.

I tried adw., apex, nova, and to be frank 'launcher pro' is the fastest although it is very old and not updated any more but still uasble.

Apex or Nova Launcher?

I currently use the full version of Nova and find it awesome but heard Apex is smoother on the Nexus 7. Discuss
Thanks a ton guys

I prefer Nova and use it on my phone, but apex is definitely smoother on this device and is what I use. There's no pullback when moving through homescreens using apex, which is huge IMO.
I use Nova and have extremely fast screen transitions. I don't know what was meant by 'pullback'. I tried Apex also and definitely prefer Nova in conjunction with 'Notification Toggle' which provides true one-touch toggling for rooted users of the various radios.
I tried out Nova and Apex free versions when I first got my Nexus and couldn't tell any difference. It's really personal preference in my opinion. Does it feel smoother to you?
In the end I went with Nova Prime.

In my opinion, Nova is smoother than Apex. I'm not sure about on the N7 though. I used Trebuchet on it before it broke .
The Pull back you are talking about was fixed with last update just a couple days ago now nova is smooth as butter and I highly recommend it

Cool, I'll definitely check it out then.
Edit: Yep, they definitely fixed it. Much better. I'll most likely stick with Nova now.
definitely Nova Launcher...
I was using Apex and loving it!!
until for some reason on my Nexus 7, when i landscape mode, widgets didnt work,
i tried reset factory,
delete Apex cache, then reinstall,
still in landscape widgets dont work,
so i changed to Nova and the customization is superb and perfect, loving it at the moment...
I used to use Go Laucher
Now I am using Nova Launcher Prime
It gives you more customization
Apex seems to be much smoother in my opinion.

I have both paid for versions. I'm currently using Nova Prime on the 7 as u love the fact you can set a custom tap action for folders and have swipe open the folder. So I have a folder with various browsers I use but a tap on the folder opens chrome.

Nova Launcher vs Stock Launcher on Nexus 4?

Performance wise I say equal. Customizability Nova.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Try it out and see for your self. It's all subjective...
I prefer nova simply because of the customizability and the use of gestures not to mention I've been using nova for a very long time.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda app-developers app
I prefer Apex (paid) over either. The default launcher that comes with Slimbean is Nova as it was determined to be the best in terms of speed and memory while still being tweakable and free.
Luv Nova... Faster than light! try it
Nova for added customization.
First thing i did was install nova
Also for eye candy sometimes i use Next launcher but overall nova is the best.
stock is fine if you want an applauncher interface - nova really lets you build
Performance, stability, functions, you name it! Its Nova Prime.
Just a quick question here. Would Nova Luncher interfere with Light Flow in any way? Or they have nothing to do with each other? Just don't want to install nova yet in case it messes up my light flow settings.

Both have nothing to do with the other. I use light flow and nova myself and it's working great. I tried almost every Launcher available and everytime I came back to nova Launcher. Followed by apex Launcher and then holo Launcher HD.

I like both, but always come back to the stock launcher. Weirdly. Maybe because I used Nova to mimic the stock launcher on my former Xperia Ion, and now that I have the stock launcher, well I don't want to change anymore
By the way, I get this with every launcher : when you press a conversation on the widget SMS on the lockscreen, I always get a black screen (launcher, but without wallpaper) and then app launches. I don't know why, it's the only thing bugging me. and it happens on Nova Prime, Apex Pro and stock launcher.

No, it would not affect your light flow. I have both installed and used both of them.
The stock launcher is smooth, but nova gives you so much options. I use nova prime on my phone and my tablet (n7) and am very happy with it.

But Nova is making lags on my N4, though it is fast but i do not like such, i still prefer Apex, more features than Nova and the fluidity is there, it is more than enough for me with its new feature (Apex Notifier)

I prefer Apex as well, and can make it really snap by turning off various animations (perhaps doing the same to Nova would help).
PS: I do like the Notifier, though I thought that feature has always been there with the paid version of Apex (maybe due to recent android updates they had to utilize the notifier?)
Stability: Both are amazing, stock is probably very slightly more stable, VERY SLIGHTLY
Customize: NOVA, done
Performance (speed, RAM, background): Nova. You can tweak the animation speeds, it's always fluid, you can make it an "aggressive launcher", it destroys

You can change the speed/animation's of the stock launcher too. All in the developer options..
Also aside from stock. I would say APEX (paid) seems to be the smoothest 3rd party launcher on the Nexus 4.
Nova (paid) laggs horribly for me. Doesn't matter what settings I change.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
What's horrible in Nova is the poor screen previews. It's not smooth at all, looks bad, and has no animation when clicking on a screen. Apex is better in this aspect, though I find Nova slightly faster and snappier.
I'd go back to the stock launcher though, if I found a way to apply custom icon themes to it.
