I don't know why I even rooted, I don't even understand it, I just hear others talk about how much better it can make your phone but I did root but that is it, I haven' teven installed a rom and do not even know how to do that. I probably should have waited until I I know more about it but I just got caught up in the moment a few weeks ago when someone else had done it and they said it was easy so I took the bait. Now I am going to give the phone to a family member and to avoid having any issues with the phone I want to unroot and do a reset so the phone is set to factory so they may set it up to their liking so how can I unroot? I was told that since I did not install a rom then I could do a factory reset and it would set everything back to stock so can someone advise me on this? If it can't be done that way is there a unroot abvailable?
First thing. This should have been posted in the Q&A section. Second thing. Go to the link provided. Follow the instructions and download the stock MDC.TAR file. Use Odin to flash and you'll be back to stock. No root!

Did you get the update from Tmobile? A msg at the top saying an update is available, and did you go ahead and download and install it?
If so, and after it tried to reboot it got stuck at the Vibrant screen... here's a fix... follow the instructions, very easy. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=803492
If you don't want to attempt that then go to TMO and tell them and you'll be sent a new Vibrant
yes and i posred this today why does it say yesterday

Try pulling the battery out for a few minutes and put it back in. Then wait for more than 10 minutes for it to come up. If it doesn't, post back.
I would really use odin 1.30 instead of the one in that thread.
Yeah, once someone sent me the links to exactly where the drivers, PIT and .tar files are, I found Odin (1.3) to be SUPER quick and easy, in terms of getting back to stock and un-bricking my phone.
I searched here and google but can't find a download for odin 1.3.
Can someone post a link plz? Ty in advance

Mine is the same as him. I got the tmobile message on my vibrant and i hit update. then it said update failed. Now my phone is stuck at the logo screen. My latest nanoid backup was 10 days ago and that doesn't cut it. i have everything on my phone. is there any way to fix this without wiping the data on my phone? The only thing i did to my phone was root, segmented battery % and i used the evo blackbar metamorph.
This happened to me today. TMO sucks as a company i know i worked for them they are a bunch of morons.....anyway i digress.
Um what i did was use odin i belive the link is in the link posted. Every file u need is in there and it will take awhile to download. Once downloaded just flash it back to stock then flash it to JI6 if you want.
IMO i think anyone who gets the update should decline it and download via odin. Seriously i didn't add any custom roms cuz i wanted to be legit and get updates normally but i forgot im dealing with tmo. Flashing Bionixs now, screw being legit.

Did you lose any data when you used odin?
If you just use odin to install the update then no, you won't lose data.
If you're one of the unfortunate ones to try the ota update and got soft bricked then you will be flashing the original firmware and will lose data

Starting off, I'm probably posting in the wrong section. Excuse my forum etiquette, but I need help with this because I'm insanely frustrated and in pain (Decided to learn how to exploit the android OS while recovering from my surgery).
So, if you've read past that first part and are still willing to help, thank you.
Moderators: If you absolutely need to move this post, please move it to a section where it will actually get attention and I can get an answer. Thanks.
Anyway, the breakdown of my problem is this;
I wanted to root my new day old Sprint CMDA Nexus S, I've never rooted anything android, and if anything the most I've done with a droid OS is installed it on my old iphone 2g.
So I did some googling and first thing to come up was this guide:
nexusshacks(dotcom)/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-root-nexus-s/
Now, usually I would do a bit more research, but because of the lack of blood in my body I'm doing dumb things, making bad decisions, whatever.
So obviously this guide doesn't work, even a quick skim of the comments shows that, I try to follow this guide-
I followed step "fastboot flash boot rootboot.img" then tried to reboot. It freezes at the google boot logo. This is where I start getting a bit nervous because I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing.
So I think "Well, if I jump over to someone elses tutorial and do that it should overwrite any "root"ing data I've tried to put into the device.
So I jump over to this:
androidadvices(dotcom)/root-sprint-nexus-gingerbread-235-update/3/
It has me install PDANet and it's frozen since on the installing PDAnet to your phone.
I just want to get my Nexus S back to original factory default so I can start fresh from there without a terrible guide.
Can someone please help me get there?
Thanks.
tl;dr:
Bad guide soft bricked my phone and I want to restore it to factory defaults

Ok I can see you need help but I am inclined to warn you instead. Stop. If you cannot figure out how to root the easiest phone to root then you shouldn't be messing around with your phone. You will end up screwing something up, won't know how to fix it, and come crying here for help. Do yourself some research before you go and ruin your phone.
Yes you posted in the wrong place.
There is a thread in this forum on how to root the nexus s 4g. Rooting is model specific. The T-Mobile Nexus s is different from the sprint, att, Rodgers, o2 etc.
Please please do some more research!

Thanks for a reply, and I understand I dug a hole.
Now I need to get out of said hole, so if you had any directions of how to dig myself out, that'd be great.
if you can get into fastboot then you are still cool, if not you're gonna have to odin it. I dont actually know where the tar files are, Micheal posted it up but i think they deleted the thread. You should have came to xda first,we have one clicks.
actually rooting is the same across the board. same steps same everything... in fact the one click root version 1 would work on any and all of them, version 2 branches out a bit further due to that it installs cwm.
anyways boot into fastboot, download stock fastboot images from petes thread found here http://wonderly.com/bb/CRESPO4G/OEM/GRJ22IMAGES.zip and flash them all in fastboot.
youll be back on stock grj22 but youll at least be booting.. from there follow a guide for rooting this phone that has you flash cwm (not a prerooted kernel). or be lazy and use my one click root
You sir are a class act. We need a ton more guys like you here at XDA

First off i'm surprised anyone still uses this phone........i'm kidding its an amazing phone.
ok now to my post.... i don't know if this has already been done or can be done.
I put my intercept away(to upgrade to the optimus...good phone) and its just sitting there, cold, alone, useless. and i was thinking
could i make a back up of the intercept( it is rooted but still has all the factory bloatware and fun goodies) i haven't remove a thing. and other people could use that if they ever needed to go back to completely stock. all they'd have to do is make a backup of their rom, flash this one and unroot, and send it into samsung if needs repair. and when the get the phone back just reroot it(i'm sure its gotten easier since i did it) and reflash their rom?
or would someone have to program it???
let me know thru this post, if its possible and someone wants to give it a worl.(not just straight flashing it, i hope they just dont do that) but idk if it'll work or not, kinda fun idea
i guess no one knows??????????????????????????????????????
It's not really necessary. There are plenty of stock images for the Intercept readily available. Nice idea, but just not needed.

Is it possible to downgrade from MF3 to MDL with Odin MDL stock files?
Ok, so before anyone starts telling me to search and read and what not, here is the reason to my question.
About a month or so ago I bought a GS4 from craigslist. The girl claimed she was selling the phone for her dad that was going through a divorce blah blah blah.
So I'm thinking this girl or her father didnt look or sound like the people that would know about rooting and stuff.
Now at the time I bought the phone I didn't even know what locked bootloaders meant. So I rooted the phone and followed instructions that I found on XDA att gs4 development thread, which requires me to install an Odin stock file for the root to work.
Either two things happenend here:
1. The previous owner did indeed know about rooting, had rooted the phone and never took the MF3 update via OTA. When seeling the phone he/she was kind enough not to flash stock MF3 files, but falshed MDL instead.
2. The previous owner did not know about rooting and her/his phone automatically updated to MF3. When I bought the phone, not knowing about boot loaders, I must've flashed MDL or whatever the version of stock I have and completely erased the MF3 crap and I was able to root the phone and go on with my life... again still not knowing about MF3 locked bootloaders.
So if number 2 was actually the case, has anyone with stock MF3 that took the OTA MF3 or decided to flash stock MF3 via Odin has ever tried to donwgrade to MDL or older??? Granted you had insurance (NO THIS IS NOT ABOUT INSURANCE FRAUD) one could easily tried to flash Odin files to something older and if it breaks u could always do the Samsung experience at BB or try to flash stock MF3 via odin, or send it for repair.
What do u guys think? Please be smart about your answers. Dont post "it can't be dome." Instead "this cant be done because... link to thread.... this person tried it already..."
Thanks again in advance

Dude do your research. You put a lot of effort into writing this post, but if you looked at the stickies the answer is no. You will never ever ever be able to downgrade.

So, you don't want to here someone tell you "no" (which is the answer), and you say you have searched but you want someone else to link you to threads about this???
What is it that you are looking for?
You CANNOT downgrade. It's a hardware limitation, called a blown qfuse. Not fixable. So, no.

Hello!
I am new to this and I rooted my phone to 4.3. There is now an update for 4.4.2 and I want to update to it. I have tried uninstalling my root and apparently, I still can't update to 4.4.2. How do I completely uninstall the root so I can go to 4.4.2. I have even tried factory resetting my phone.
Thanks!

If you rooted you shouldn't be new to this. Return to stock. See the general forum and look for the mk2 tar files.

My Galaxy S4 was rooted and I got and installed Kit Kat 4.4.2 yesterday with No Problem. Some roots maybe different. I did not have CWM installed.

Here's the point:
You don't buy/get a high end phone and just take the quick way to doing everything. I have seen dozens and dozens of folks get into trouble that way. I spent a month just reviewing how to root my Nexus One before I even got it. That may have been overkill but was awaiting back surgery and wanted something to do while recuperating. You need to take the time to learn not only what to do, but why you are doing it. If not, you guys see the consequences. XDA asks that you search before asking questions and this one has been addressed numerous times. By the question itself, you know whether the OP made any attempt at all to look for answers or just wants spoon fed.
That said, we all feel bad when someone messes up their phone and if asked properly they will get help. Just reminded that they need to research some before asking or jumping into something. I know it is water under the bridge at this time, just FYI--
Do hope you all get it sorted. Also, it can get confusing when others hijack the OP's thread. I see that a lot too. Makes it hard to follow and give correct answers to the OP.
BTW, if you unroot and update, you are not re-rooting at this time--
Good Luck on it--:good:
Nothing meant personal here, just trying to get some advice out that can take time to get on your own--
