Its their right to deny support if you change the stuff in their app. And these sort of app theming is not important at all. Normal icon changing etc is still supported.
**** I just bought it and they tell me they are discontinuing:banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

They're not discontinuing the app. Learn to read.
If I buy a car and modify the engine I don't think I can go back to the dealer if something goes wrong. Companies can't support all modifications people do in their software. This big red sign is just to tell us, it's not like they locked it. Plus if you can theme it then you can change the warning, so not a big deal.

If you're just using the nova launcher from the play store this has NO effect on you. It's to stop people complaining to the dev about issues in modified nova launchers (those with a modded apk)
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
people are overreacting about it.
it's just a warning telling you not to contact him if something goes wrong with a modded version.
it's not like he completely sabotages modded versions.
Seriously people? You're complaining about the developer not offering support to the app that he made and you changed? If I spend all my time on a version of an app, and then someone takes it and modifies it and then distributes it, and then people email ME about problems they're having? I'd be bothered, to be honest.
Just to get things straight, I posted this just to inform.
So don't get me wrong. I'm not complaining and just wanted to know your thoughts.
Still a Nova Launcher user here.

Oh I never thought you were complaining, but from reading other threads, others were complaining up the ****, and I can't believe it! Go ahead, modify your phone completely and see if Samsung will take care if your device! Or modify your oven and then return it to get fixed... Or a library book! Take your pick of a book and change character's names and the plot and let's see if you don't get slapped with a fine! lol.

Yes please search, it's been talked about in great detail
Maybe I should have explained myself better... As I have been running LauncherPro Plus since I got the phone. Has anyone successfully REMOVED the stock TW Launcher ( I don't not want it running in the background eating memory) with an aftermarket launcher?
I did search and I didn't find shiz on this.. nor did I see a sticky in Dev or Q&A regarding the removal and replacement of a stock launcher.
If I'm overtly blind and did not see the obvious, I apologize in advance..

from what I know and have read Touchwiz is built over the android source code so it could be removed technically, but who is going to take under such a task when there are parties working to bring 2.2 source with some tweaks.
I'm sure it could be done but there are too many bright things in the near future of this device for anyone to take on such a task.
I could be wrong but this is my understanding on this device.
Well.. I don't really want to remove "TouchWiz".. Just the twLauncher application.
I would just prefer to avoid having 2 launchers running at all times.

Ok.. but was pretty simple question in plain English. I didn't know there was anything utterly complex about the word replace.
Maybe it would be just as easy not to "ASSUME"... I'm an idiot..

Look, I'm not trying to start crap, but it was a valid question that was not answered correctly because someone assumed that I was asking if I could use "another" launcher rather then "replace" the stock launcher.
All I'm saying is, lets not be so harsh in our initial responses.

No, because the other launcher would still exist, and serve its former role.. If I "replaced" your job, you would not have it anymore, and you would likely no longer get paid. If I replaced the stock launcher, it would not function or act as a launcher anymore, and I would thus not want it to consume the memory it was originally allocated.
This is getting silly now.. I honestly don't care that much to bicker anymore. Lets just be friends and talk crap about all the iKiddies instead, sound good?

Check running services under applications. Touch wiz is not running. Check battery use, tw is not there.
Once you load a custom rom it will be moot anyway

After all, if you replace me at my job, I am no longer working, but I don't die and get buried. I still exist, I'm just not working at that job.

I hit quote on this thread and it somehow posted to the other. No idea how that happened.
OP,
My understanding is that once you set another launcher as default, TW home does not load into memory. The only advantage to physically replacing the apk would be that it would then be running from the system allocated partition and may load faster at boot. I really don't think there's a noticeable difference. I'm no pro, tho. That's just my half educated guess.

I don't spend a whole lot of time in these forums. Mostly just following what's going on with the latest ROMs/leaks/radios, etc. I personally don't understand the reason that people was to de-sense their phones. Only thing that I see that it does is the "slide down" unlock (the part of it that I NEED), and the main clock/weather screen. Is there more to it that I am missing that's bloats it?

Something like Boxee, Apple tv, Google tv, Xbmc is.. those are front end.. Now i wanna know is it something that as to be build within a ROM or could it be something like a Theme zip file?
ok..
of course it's possible. our phone comes with a custom "front end" installed, touchiz. just like sense and motoblur, these are all custom "front ends".
but our phone in it's current state? probably not. because you'll be building a "front end" on top of a "front end". you would probably need AOSP to be fully functional before you attempted to make a new UI for the phone
What you want is a launcher replacement. Search for Launcher Pro, ADW.Launcher, or one of many others on the Market. When you install this app and press the home button, Android will ask you which one you want to use.
As far as something comparable to Boxee/XBMC, that doesn't seem like a very good fit for Android. But there are a lot of crazy launchers out there that people have made, and they're usually compatible with all phones. Search around on google until you find something you like.

Hey guys, i'm going to be purchasing an xperia play (my first android/smart phone whoo!) soon and I've done my fair share of research over this phone and i've gone to the verion store to check it out, and i like it a lot, but there's just one thing that bothers me. What happened to the app drawer? I know it's stock gingerbread therefore it should have the same app drawer that the Nexus S has, but it doesn't seem the same, the reason I say this is because when you scroll up and down through the apps, it doesn't give you that "cube" like effect, what happened?

I don't have the Verizon edition so could be COMPLETELY wrong but perhaps it's enable-able in a settings?
Even if not the other comments are right - think of it this way. It's not that it doesn't have the cube effect, it's that you need to install it via the market - Launcher Pro or Gingerbread Launcher should both have it (ADW too maybe?)
If you get that phone you can definitely get the effect your looking for

Yes its been confirmed it is.
I already saw there is a request for sense. No motoblur love yet?
A touchwiz rom for a LG phone?
But no seriously, touchwiz as well as HTC sense, lg ui, motoblur are all closed source and very difficult to port. On Galaxy Nexus, there was a skin pack of Touchwiz on top of stock Android.
For people bashing op, android is all about options. If a developer wants to devote his time into porting it then so be it. Nothing is stopping him. If android was one way if thinking then we wouldn't be any different than the you know community.
Realistically, getting a stable touchwiz rom isn't worth it and it won't happen most likely. If you like touchwiz then get a galaxy s3 or a note 2

The launcher and some of the framework was ported to the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 7 by a developer called madphone, he even made a ROM that was fully themed.
He's also ported LG launcher and framework to the Galaxy Nexus.
Evilisto has ported the LG lock screen to the Galaxy Nexus too.
Yes OP it's possible and you're not wrong for asking, it's your phone so run what you like on it and never mind everyone else.
Best bet to see TW5 on the Nexus 4 is to contact madphone and see if he's interested in porting it, maybe he can tell you if the mods he's got out will work right off the bat on the Nexus 4.
Do a search for him and you'll find his threads. Or Google TW5 for Galaxy Nexus, a few months back a few big Android sites wrote an article about his work.

It's what stock Android looks like. It's called Holo. I actually like it a lot and prefer it over TouchWiz launcher.
you can google for 'touchwiz launcher galaxy nexus port' and try installing the APK and see if it works (dont flash any zips though, at least i wouldnt try it)
