Sense/de-Sense? - Droid Incredible General

I don't spend a whole lot of time in these forums. Mostly just following what's going on with the latest ROMs/leaks/radios, etc. I personally don't understand the reason that people was to de-sense their phones. Only thing that I see that it does is the "slide down" unlock (the part of it that I NEED), and the main clock/weather screen. Is there more to it that I am missing that's bloats it?

Yep....sense is FILLED with un needed junk. Just to day i made a desensetized rom and i had to get rid of 15+ apks that were total junk

I personally like sense, but some prefer stock android. I'll admit though sense has bloatware and some want to get rid of it. Personal preference mostly.

Oh, I am removing tons of BS APKs, but is there a way to keep the "slide down" unlock and home screen? Or is removing the APKs basically doing just that?

No. The app is called htclockscreen.apk. keep that and you will have the slide to unlock

I'm also not sure if I should get rid of Sense. Can someone put exactly whats in 2.2's Sense because I'm not completely sure of what I would lose if I drop it. Also, if I do get rid of it is their a way to keep Friendstream? I like not having to check Twitter and FB seperately. Thanks guys.

I was actually just looking at it. Someone asked but didn't see an answer, can you get it on clockworkmod? Saves the hastle of going to the computer to download it.

Well, since sense started force closing on me I'm definitely ready for it to go.

Now THAT's what I wanted to hear. Thing that's been stopping me from messing with some of the ROMs was that the "side-slide" just seemed unnatural to me.

What is your rom and where can we get it?

I'm guessing this would be the place to ask what "deoxeded" is and why it's good...

Yes please search, it's been talked about in great detail
Maybe I should have explained myself better... As I have been running LauncherPro Plus since I got the phone. Has anyone successfully REMOVED the stock TW Launcher ( I don't not want it running in the background eating memory) with an aftermarket launcher?
I did search and I didn't find shiz on this.. nor did I see a sticky in Dev or Q&A regarding the removal and replacement of a stock launcher.
If I'm overtly blind and did not see the obvious, I apologize in advance..

from what I know and have read Touchwiz is built over the android source code so it could be removed technically, but who is going to take under such a task when there are parties working to bring 2.2 source with some tweaks.
I'm sure it could be done but there are too many bright things in the near future of this device for anyone to take on such a task.
I could be wrong but this is my understanding on this device.
Well.. I don't really want to remove "TouchWiz".. Just the twLauncher application.
I would just prefer to avoid having 2 launchers running at all times.

Maybe it would be just as easy not to "ASSUME"... I'm an idiot..

No, because the other launcher would still exist, and serve its former role.. If I "replaced" your job, you would not have it anymore, and you would likely no longer get paid. If I replaced the stock launcher, it would not function or act as a launcher anymore, and I would thus not want it to consume the memory it was originally allocated.
This is getting silly now.. I honestly don't care that much to bicker anymore. Lets just be friends and talk crap about all the iKiddies instead, sound good?

I hit quote on this thread and it somehow posted to the other. No idea how that happened.
OP,
My understanding is that once you set another launcher as default, TW home does not load into memory. The only advantage to physically replacing the apk would be that it would then be running from the system allocated partition and may load faster at boot. I really don't think there's a noticeable difference. I'm no pro, tho. That's just my half educated guess.

Hack to remove recent used apps in notification bar?

I use the notification bar a lot so the "recent app" section is taking a lot of screen space...to much when it's up to me. Is there a Hack to switch this off and use the notification bar...for notifications? I know I can install a custom rom (my DHD is rooted) but if a hack can do the job?
I'm also curious about how to remove the "recent apps" from my notification bar, as it is useless to me (prefer holding down the home button) and taking excess space on the screen.

yep, a hack for this would be great. Pointless when you can just hold home IMO

Agreed, I never really understood this menu anyway, some apps don't seem to show up in it. Maybe it would be useful if it had a built in task killer.
I'd like to see it gone for another reason. When I use lots of different apps, and the "recent apps" change greatly Notification Bar lags, sometimes even 4-5 seconds, which is a LOT. Do you experience the same issue?
Also, bump on the idea.
Great idea! Would love some toggles or music controls instead.

I'm afraid that any major change to these icons or the "recent apps" section will require root privileges.
Definately worth rooting for. Liamstears theme has a customisable power bar in place, though it does allow for both if you feel the need to.
Yeah i know it's worth it, but i do enjoy a stock ROM. I really need a functional phone now, so i don't want to end up with a bricked device

then you don't have much of a choice really.. since u decided to stick to a stock rom and this removal of the recent apps definitely requires some hacking, u're stuck with having recent apps in your notification page
Yes, this recent apps in the notification bar is just useless and takes up the real estate space. Its so useless when you can achieve same from home button.
It will be great to get a hack or option to switchoff this stupid strip.

Ahh, damnit The only thing that's currently stopping me from rooting is the damn downgrade procedure. And i guess there's no point of struggling to make something thats roots 1.72 since 2.3/2.4 is coming soon (i hope).
What's the chance of bricking when downgrading and rooting?

people use the "brick" word too easly imo, a bricked device wont power on at all, it is as useful as a brick (hence the name). but you see threads all the time "help bricked" or "have i bricked my device" when in reality there device is faaaaaaaar from bricked so dont let it scare you, its actually quite hard to brick your device
Ok, i know i'm off topic now, and sorry about that, but what is the best guide for downgrading and rooting the DHD?
Edit: Found it myself
If your phone is rooted you could flash a mod by he_stheone64 or by krzysiec and then changing the .txt file to stop showing recent opened app. All the instructions are on there great posts in the themes and apps section.
Yeah, i've done that and it's a very quick and easy process.

Just installed GingerBlur, some questions..

What are the benefits over the stock OS? I don't see anything new, and switching in between home screens is glitchier. I am running 1.8.3. Also wondering where the webtop option is? It's not coming up when I plug it in, nor am I finding it in the app drawer.
Well.... i don't believe GingerBlur is a different OS. As far as i'm aware, because of the locked bootloader, that's kind of impossible at this point. I believe GingerBlur is basically just an extremely modified version of the stock OS to make it look as much like Gingerbread as it can.

It's a bit glitchier than normal. Like they aren't as "smooth" as they are on stock when flicking left and right to switch between the home screens. Also the webtop hack was installed before installing gingerblur, and it said it was included in the 3.1 update. I just don't see that option when connecting HDMI.

nvm reinstalled the webtop hack, working great however the homescreen shouldn't be lagging the way it is. I am uploading a video, it's not showing how slow it is though through the video. maybe I flashed something wrong in my phone.. i just rooted from stock without wiping anything, and updated to gingerblur. i keep seeing steps to flashing to gingerblur and reflashing the sfb first.. , but i didnt do that, maybe thats the cause of my "laggyness"?
UPDATE (Video with lag, it really looks smooth in this video for some reason, it's really only half that)

Just another rom, just one with some serious eye candy. 2 things really turn me off of this rom. Its closed source nature (you never know what kind of **** is in there), and the fact it is chinese (which gives me serious doubts about the security of it).

I bet your shoes are made in China. Do you trust them? It's in English and has no spyware, or CIQ. The port for this phone however has several key features missing and no offense to the devs, it isn't quite ready for daily use. No builds have 4G. Epic's has unstable 3G, WiFi, GPS, and camera. The Devs are working hard though and trying to give us something to use.

Verizon Xperia Play App Drawer?

Hey guys, i'm going to be purchasing an xperia play (my first android/smart phone whoo!) soon and I've done my fair share of research over this phone and i've gone to the verion store to check it out, and i like it a lot, but there's just one thing that bothers me. What happened to the app drawer? I know it's stock gingerbread therefore it should have the same app drawer that the Nexus S has, but it doesn't seem the same, the reason I say this is because when you scroll up and down through the apps, it doesn't give you that "cube" like effect, what happened?

Download the Gingerbread launcher, push it to /system/app and delete the default launcher. Problem solved This isnt ios You know
I don't have the Verizon edition so could be COMPLETELY wrong but perhaps it's enable-able in a settings?
Even if not the other comments are right - think of it this way. It's not that it doesn't have the cube effect, it's that you need to install it via the market - Launcher Pro or Gingerbread Launcher should both have it (ADW too maybe?)
If you get that phone you can definitely get the effect your looking for
