Just installed GingerBlur, some questions.. - Atrix 4G General

What are the benefits over the stock OS? I don't see anything new, and switching in between home screens is glitchier. I am running 1.8.3. Also wondering where the webtop option is? It's not coming up when I plug it in, nor am I finding it in the app drawer.

Well.... i don't believe GingerBlur is a different OS. As far as i'm aware, because of the locked bootloader, that's kind of impossible at this point. I believe GingerBlur is basically just an extremely modified version of the stock OS to make it look as much like Gingerbread as it can.

Well I completely understand that, but what is the rave about? My friend told em to keep getting it, and people seem to love it on here, so I figured why not? However I am not seeing anything different, just a glitchy ass homescreen, my webtop mod isn't working, and my contact pictures aren't in my text messages LOL.

First of all, please don't shove words in my mouth. I am thankful for GingerBlur, and whoever is making it is doing a really great job, I am just wondering why my home screens are really running like crap. There is nothing wrong with it. I understand it's still in beta, I am just wondering if it's my phone doing it, that's why I posted here in the first place and wondering if it's normal.

I haven't had these issues. Are you running the webtop hack? What do you meaning the home screens are 'running like crap'. We need more information.

It's a bit glitchier than normal. Like they aren't as "smooth" as they are on stock when flicking left and right to switch between the home screens. Also the webtop hack was installed before installing gingerblur, and it said it was included in the 3.1 update. I just don't see that option when connecting HDMI.

I don't recall exactly, but I think the animations may be set to none. Checkout Settings>Display>Screen Animation and see what it's set to.

Yeah they are set to all animations. It's not that big of a deal, just was wondering if anyone else is experiencing that. I'm just bickering I suppose.

Personally speaking, I don't really care for the fancy animations. I more like my raw power and conserving battery life.

Haha that's good. So how do I bring up the webtop hack? It should come installed right? Or do I have to reinstall it?

nvm reinstalled the webtop hack, working great however the homescreen shouldn't be lagging the way it is. I am uploading a video, it's not showing how slow it is though through the video. maybe I flashed something wrong in my phone.. i just rooted from stock without wiping anything, and updated to gingerblur. i keep seeing steps to flashing to gingerblur and reflashing the sfb first.. , but i didnt do that, maybe thats the cause of my "laggyness"?
UPDATE (Video with lag, it really looks smooth in this video for some reason, it's really only half that)

The Ultimate Droid now available for Evo

A friend of mine swears by this guy's work, so I am going to give it a try right now. Thought y'all might like to know about it. It is at theultimatedroid dot com. Download does require registration, though.
Keep us updated!!!
Cool, I'll give it a wack. Bored anyways.
oh and thanks for sharing.
I finally downloaded it (my connection cut off). Performed nandroid backup, wiped everything, and installed.
The first boot took about 2 minutes from off to main config. So far seems pretty responsive. I got a FC the first time, but then it worked the second. Default launcher is Launcher Pro, which is fine by me.
Before I installed any apps, I tested with Quadrant, and the score was 1495.
So far seems good. I'll update anything I come across that seems off.
No FC's here.
Pretty sweet rom. I'm actually amazed...
recommend!
I just got 30 mflops for Linpack too.

Is this from the same rom cooker lol, that kanged Cyanogen?
How is the battery so far?
I was going to ask what the hell it was we were talking about here, but I just registered and I'm going to install it. What the hell!
Looks good from the screenies.
This guy's stuff made my D1 dance. I've always been very impressed with his work. I've never seen him release something that wasn't solid. Of all the roms I put on my D1 (and they were many...) this was by far the fastest and snappiest of them all while keeping TONS of features included. This rom is sure to perform.
BTW, st4nt0n...you're welcome for the recommendation

Why don't they put this ROM on the forums here?...
Only problem I have, is Launcher Pro won't update since it came on the ROM. Kind of a problem, I'm trying to fix that now.
Otherwise, I love it. Looks great, runs great, and feels good!
can somebody give more complete info? is this a ROM or a theme? because the pic onthe ultimatedroid.com showed verizon on the screen, but this is for EVO right?
kind of boggles the mind that the OP made a topic talking about it and just said he was going to try, without a whim of actually saying what it is?
am i out the loop? am i supposed to know what ultimate droid is? sounds like a diff phone to me (droid)
Looks like a AOSP rom with a Droid theme... Lots of black and red. Runs super great, and looks great to boot. Lots of crazy options like built-in overclocking and such. Go register and check it out. It's definitely one of my favorite roms so far!

It is a ROM not a theme. It is available for Evo, Incredible, and (original) Droid. I flashed it and while it is pretty nice I think I'll be sticking with Frost for the time being.

I would recommend not flashing it, as it says it's meant for the Incredible, not the Evo.

I flashed, its DL my apps now Seemed somewhat smooth, though I use launcherPro anyway. It looks like AOSP not a CM rip off like I have read, but I may be wrong...
edit...I do NOT have a toggle for 4G anywhere!!! A deal breaker for most
Back 2 CM7 it is
What's the point of using this rom when we have cm7 ....? Just curious.

The way I see it is CM keeps adding and adding stuff, rather than perfecting. I personally flashed back to CM, but once a true AOSP come out it on!
edit...just want to add that since the merge of 2.3.3 battery is worse, and reboots take longer, speaking of CM7 of course.

Blurry Bread

Is anyone out there using Drod's blurrybread rom? If so, is the CRT animation enabled? Or can I just use the same file I used for the stock gingerbread for it?
Yes. Yes. and Yes it works well.. ..I'm not sure what file your referring to for stock gingerbread though.
I was refering to the zip file that I flashed to enable it for the stock gb but since it's already there I wont need it. I'll be flashing as soon as I can
+1 for blurrybread.
My only complaint so far, is my swype license doesn't want to stick around after reboots and has to be regenerated.

anyone know if blurrybread is going to be updated to the official GB release? i really like it and don't really want to load the official until drod has had his way with it.
I could be wrong...but Im pretty sure drod said on twitter that hes developing solely for the thunderbolt now.

Yep or at least say "im moving on" or not working on it again in their thread damn .
well... that's a bumber. at least it didn't seem like he had done a ton with blurry bread anyway. hopefully someone with the skills will do the same. it was really just some "basic" tweaks to the base rom. nothing particularly major. i'd do it but don't have that level of skill... but surely someone out there will do something similar. i hope at least.

What exactly is MIUI?

A lot of people want it on their phones, but what is it, and what makes it so good? Is it an aosp type rom kind of like cyanogen. Thanks and forgive the noobnes of the question.

Just another rom, just one with some serious eye candy. 2 things really turn me off of this rom. Its closed source nature (you never know what kind of **** is in there), and the fact it is chinese (which gives me serious doubts about the security of it).
Its slick looking tho.
Yes, it's an AOSP-based rom.
its like Android + Iphone + CIQ + Nike + Great Fire Wall of China
Yeah, I had heard it was chinese, which kind of turned me off to the idea. But other than that, just another aosp rom huh? I just don't understand why people go crazy over it. I've seen what it looks like...nothing special really. Thanks for the info though.

I ran it on my old evo, wasn't impressed.
It removes the app draw and puts every icon on the main screen, you can move them around, but clutters things.
It's themes are a great concept and look great if you're into what's available.
It messaging app sucks cajones, that's my general opinion.

I bet your shoes are made in China. Do you trust them? It's in English and has no spyware, or CIQ. The port for this phone however has several key features missing and no offense to the devs, it isn't quite ready for daily use. No builds have 4G. Epic's has unstable 3G, WiFi, GPS, and camera. The Devs are working hard though and trying to give us something to use.

Verizon Xperia Play App Drawer?

Hey guys, i'm going to be purchasing an xperia play (my first android/smart phone whoo!) soon and I've done my fair share of research over this phone and i've gone to the verion store to check it out, and i like it a lot, but there's just one thing that bothers me. What happened to the app drawer? I know it's stock gingerbread therefore it should have the same app drawer that the Nexus S has, but it doesn't seem the same, the reason I say this is because when you scroll up and down through the apps, it doesn't give you that "cube" like effect, what happened?

Download the Gingerbread launcher, push it to /system/app and delete the default launcher. Problem solved This isnt ios You know
I don't have the Verizon edition so could be COMPLETELY wrong but perhaps it's enable-able in a settings?
Even if not the other comments are right - think of it this way. It's not that it doesn't have the cube effect, it's that you need to install it via the market - Launcher Pro or Gingerbread Launcher should both have it (ADW too maybe?)
If you get that phone you can definitely get the effect your looking for
