Hello guys, well atm i have samsung galaxy ace and today a friend gave me offer for exchange with x5. Should i exchange? For me galaxy ace is good but few things really create problems e.g low ram,200mb internal memory, processor 800mhz but cant be oc and no good roms available. So i need some advice here.
Also i had some questions. How is the touch screen of x5? Battery life? (my ace only lasts 10 hours :-\ ) any other major cons?
Thanx for your time
P.S - how do i confirm his device is u8800 and not u8800H?
Hello!
The X5 is great (for its price), with the default ROM it runs ok, no glitches and lags. I tried ADW and other launchers but due to the lack of gpu acceleration I wasn't impressed (maybe with overclock...). The battery life is pretty good (with heavy usage wifi, some gps, rss, browser, music, some gaming I get at 20% until night).
The screen is pretty good, I've got it for some time now and without a screen protector I don't have any visible scratches.
The only cons on stock rom are the preinstalled apps and I hate the touch keys (home, back etc) I accidentally touch them a lot.
Also no front facing camera (if you really care).
I don't think there is any significant difference in the "H" version
go for it!
For me it's very good bargain cause he/she saved you from your mistake.
3 of my friends use ace and they want to snatch x5 from my hand everytine they saw it. X5 wins every sector except for the brand name. People still believe on brand name

Band name has some Pros when it comes to comes to service and peripherals (docking stations, headsets etc...), thank god all phones use the same USB port for charging...
Other than that I wouldn't spent more than 50$ for a same spec brand VS a non-well-known-brand phone.

Well x5 battery life also is **** if you are using it. It takes 2% of battery per 7minutes sms writting. 5% of battery for 25minutes 175mb size video playing with lowest brightness.
Stock rom is absolutely ****!!! mine was so **** that it took 50% of battery per 20minutes and it was lagging! so you must upgrade to 2.3 custom rom for best berformance. Talk to friend with phone and listen is his phone do not have bad sound quality when he talks from his x5 - then x5 is better. BTW x5 uses 353MB of ram not 512MB.
128 is reserved for gpu tommi.
500 minutes of video playing! that's amazing.

Yes i know that, but it's not used for programs and performance but reserved for GPU but when we do not use any hardcore gpu game it's sad that we must sacrifice our 128MB of ram for it Anyway what about the video playback time i last night watched futurama and it took ~5% of battery life on minimal light and everything was turned off, but this doesn't mean that if we play continually video it will run 500 minutes
it is used for everything the screen displays.
you should know that that android "uses" the first 10% lightning fast and that the second 50% last a lot longer than first 50%. anyway battery life is standard if not a little better than other high spec android phones (excluding amoled screen ones) and everything above 4 hours of screen on time is good.
How is the touch screen? Is it responsive and good? And how do i figure out if its u8800 or u8800H??

For me touchscreen si too much responsive!! i'm not kidding!! it's so damn responsive that it's hard to type correctly sms D i use GoKeyboard it's very nice and larger than android
i think H version should be written on back of phone when removed battery. MAYBE.
Anyway you should try it by yourself first. But hardware is good for this phone the only bad thing about it is battery. if you use it offten it won't last 12 hours.
Now i would trade my X5 to Sony Xperia mini pro (NOT x10).. it has better cpu and external keyboard. i hate onscreen typing..it's not for me
and a worse screen.
everyone should know that it's up to the manufacturer to set the clock speed.
btw. x5's cpu is newer than xperia mini pro's

for me 3" screen is nice thing not bad, i hate big screens. And phone will not discharged so quick. Yes it's maybe older but better.. little and ****ing fast! Te only bad thing for Xperia is his height it's almost 2cm.
i meant resolution.
anyway, it's not a better cpu. they're pretty much the same, only x5's is a little newer.
I would go for it, just because the screen is much bigger and is virtually unbrickable.
Hey guys, here in germany I can get this phone for 175€, should i get it if I want a cheap, working smartphone? I think there is no alternative in this price range, is there?
Sure go for it if you are okay with installing custom ROMs which is quite easy. You can get it for about EUR 210,- on Amazon, I'd choose that and take the full warranty.
Hi all XSP users
in just a few days, it will be 1 year since i own this phone. here i'm trying to give a sort of review-ish view and opinion about this phone
So without further ado, allow me to start (please forgive me for any inappropriate or ineligible english since its not my main language)
1 year ago i was looking for a replacement for my samsung galaxy gio which has become obsolete (hardware wise especially) because it cannot keep up with my demands. so at that time i was searching for a phone that meets my budget (cant go on a spending spree at that time) but still packs a can of whoop-ass.
at that time in my country was the time where 3 high spec phones launches samsung galaxy s4, sony xperia Z, and oppo find 5. all of them were top of the class. too bad they were all above my budget
other brand like HTC has no interesting line up for me, LG has some not bad spec phone but none to my liking.
Lo and behold i found out about the xperia SP about 2 weeks before the event. at the price it was offered, no other phone can match XSP specs, camera wise, processor wise (at that time of course). i bought the phone without hesitation.
my review
Size
for me this phone hits the sweet spot for size. although i can still held 5,5 inch phone without problem, but this phone is nice to grasp
screen size
screen size is adequate for me, although sometimes feel a little too small. too bad its not IPS
camera
one of the downfall for XSP for me. the camera quality is quite bad, my dads nokia x5 can even shot almost if not sometimes better images. though in my opinion since 4.3 update and using xperia M ported camera its a little bit better, i still wish it was better
processor
one of the best performance processor for midrange phone at that time and still is today IMO.
GPU
same, one of the best for playing games on a midrange phone
RAM
this is the ultimate donwfall for me in XSP. we were promoted with a 1GB RAM for XSP but how much did we get?? just a freakin' 768 ram.
thats downright false advertising. no amount of excuse and logic can justify a 1GB ram on spec sheet and only 768 in reality. this is what tied down our XSP from becoming the Beast that it could've and should've been.
although after 4.3 update the RAM increased to 848, it's still a long way from 1GB. even lenovo can put 900+MB on their 1GB RAM phone, so i am truly dissapointed at sony for this one.
My Experience
okay, hardware review aside, now im going to share how the phone feels for my daily usage
my XSP is LB, but i root it. i'll split this part to pre 4.3 and 4.3
PRE 4.3
the phone before the 4.3 update was so-so performance wise for me. mind you im a gamer, and understanding that our XSP have adreno 320 it should be handle all graphics intensive game, so i installed many heavy game. real boxing, real racing, asphalt 8, modern combat 4, NFS, chaos rings. all of that game should've played flawlessly if not for that darn RAM. you cant even browse and listen to walkman without the walkman suddenly stop. you gotta change the ram management and dalvik to help ease the RAM management, n i think that sucks. because if im not an xda member and dont root my phone, how else am i gonna improve XSP performance. there were slight regret buying this phone at that moment, but i cant change my phone again. no phone pique my interest yet again.
POST 4.3
post 4.3 update the phones performance got better a little bit since the increase in RAM but, performance wise its still so-so. if i have to give it a score before 4.3 was 7 and now it was 7.5. but luckily 4.3 update brings more than just bigger RAM it brings loads of things, from social camera, updated media apps, themes, so updating to 4.3 was like having a new phone all over again.
Conclusion
im still happy with this phone, eventhough theres major flaw (RAM)
so, will i still use this phone? YES
is it still one of the strongest budget mid range phone right now? YES (IMO, compared with other brand like samsung, LG, HTC, lenovo, OPPO)
will u still suggest this phone to friend of relatives? if they're not going to root it, NO, if they're going to root it then YES
well thats what i think about our beloved XSP
please share your opinion about this :good:
You don't need 500 MB of ram to run one game.
I love my SP,I recommend moving to a custom ROM to increase performance
Also,it's surprisingly strong. I dropped my phone on the asphalt and it slided few meters and it's fine (few scratches) !

well u need it if you want to play real racing 3 with default graphics. had not for rr3 graphics apps and reducing it to low, that game was quite a disaster to play for more than 15 minutes.
no, im not thinking of using custom ROM. im not going to unlock my bootloader

You can find a list with locked bootloaders here.
Press CTRL F and type LB then search at the Stock Based roms. You will find 9 ROMs that do not require UBL

oh yeah, forgot that there are ROMs that doesn't need unlocked bootloader. but still, I dont want to use custom ROM. its not that I lost hope for this phonr that I don't want to try custom ROM, its the opposite actually. I like this phone and its stock ROM. That's why I only do minor tweaks.
Still loving mine as well. The size, build, fit, look... It's perfect for me. I get lots of comments on it.
I can overlook the minor software quirks. I figure once Sony leaves it behind I'll move over to CM which will be nice n stable by that time!

Agreed, i may also do that when sony has abandoned our phone and no longer supports it. But right now im loving this phone the way it is with all the flaws. Still an excellent rocking phone :good:
Actually, the XSP does have 1Gb of RAM. The amount that you think missing is actually dedicated to the GPU
(kinda like a PC's Graphics card with its own chip and RAM, only here we have 2 in 1 chip, both CPU and GPU)
Other than that, a very reliable review, mate!

I have 2 questions
1-how is the battery life after one year?
2-how often do you charge your phone

Yeah, the camera is decent. Pictures tend to have a lot of noise. But outdoor picture can still look very beautiful though. If u buy this consider using 3rd party camera app, like camera 360 or lenovo super camera.

1. Battery life is still not bad i think. Im an active user, i chat n play game. If i only chat, n email, n browsing, this phone can last 12+ hours. You can force it to 20+ hours too if u solely use it for chat. Mind you the provider im using has ****ty coverage so that probably factors.
2. I charge it every night. If i unplug at, say 6am, then probably i charge again at 10 or 11 pm. usually i play games at 8 or 9pm, before charge so i can reduce the battery percentage.

They reserved more for GPU in Android 4.1.2 maybe due to Sony thinking it is vital like what they do on the Xperia Z. But after custom ROMs like CM shows that their RAM is north of 800MB, Sony releases more RAM for other purposes.
Nice post, guy! Since I bought XSP I just use it for listening to music, suffering the web, and I don't like to play game on mobile (PC too ). So I think it's actually good enough for my need.
I've been using XSP for almost 1 year too, now I think the RAM is getting not enough to use, maybe it's time to buy a new phone with 2G+ RAM.

Should I return my 16gb G3 and buy a 32gb G2 to save some money and have better battery life? The battery sucks on G3 with quad hd and is difficult to see and difference in the screen resolution. Any comments would help me make up my mind. Thanks

If you dont really need a larger and better screen or the new minor (in my opinion) new features of G3 then get the 32gb G2. I got it last week, here in Europe is only 350 euro, its a great deal in my opinion. With the cloud storage of photos and videos you wont need more than 16gb anyway.

I understand your mind problem i have the same :/ need comments to feel better about a decision but if you have money problems or whut or just want to save money then do it cause you have 16GB Extra storage, You could install G3 rom Have a better battery. The only things you will loose is the snapdragon 801 for the 800 not an real big upgrade actually, that laser focus thing and the Phone's Design, Unneccesary Quad HD screen which has a bigger resolution then my 17 inch monitor(1280X1024) which is already HD enough for me.
And the things you will also miss is the Removable cover and the sdcard. But i don't know which is more important for you :silly:
Thanks to all who replied I'm sending it back and going with the LG G2 32GB- maybe the Korean one with SD card?
@HD2wally its your decision but the g2 korean has an 2610 mah battery so far as i know removable ofcourse instead of the 3000mah one and it doesnt have analog radio but it has t-dmb instead and less android support a bit regarding to custom aosp roms.
How can people miss SD-card because i surely dont. Slow transfer rate on them and consumes hardware space. Phonemakers should stop implement them in their phones. Especially when you can transfer most your stuff via Wifi and and app.
@Sindroid well an sd slot is handy for storing roms, pictures and videos and for other stuff if your 16 gb internal is full or if you dont have money for the 32gb one but on the g2 you could also use otg sdcard readers.
Sindroid well not everybody transfers stuff via wifi and app. I transfer the most with cable to my pc since i dont have micro sdcard anymore and i guess fmradio is also nothing for you cause that also consumes hardware space. Sdcards dont need to be slow depends on the class you buy.
Dont get this comment negatively sin cause i dont know how to type it different :/
Hi guys,
Looking to buy HAM7...why in your opinions are major good and bad points?
I've read the reviews but you know there are always kinks here and there that don show up on reviews?
My biggest concern is: Battery life and snappy flow of OS without stutter, each stutter makes.my heart skip a beat...wht is your feedback on it?
I'm coming from zenfone6, I liked it but lost it.
There aren't any other 6 inch phones, nexus 6 is bit expensive and ive heard bad stuff about its battery.
Thanks for your feedback
Oh and also browisng, how is that?
My main tasks are browing, social media, mail checks and gaming such as summoners war, clash of clans etc
I'm probably going to change default launcher, I'm not a fan of emui 3 that much.
In short:
Pro: the hardware parts are good.
Con: the software updates are literally quite .. hmmm... confusing.
While I myself use ascend, i'd like to be objective. maybe you want to look also at mi note or note pro ?

My opinions MT7 is perfect for gaming, media or entertain...I just love my mt7,super fast, not any hanging point while playing game if u get ph call like Samsung. Large batt keep u alive for 2 days with multimedia usage, only gaming time batt take more power...the bad thing only I found that it's Android upgrades...Huawei is one of donkey brand which always fail to keep promise for new upgrades...one thing I noticed mt7 touch screen more improve and smooth to use...

Hahaha.. exactly. The upgrade part is the real sore point. With so many variations and strict regional validations before you can upgrade. Other than that, this phone is truly a gem
Yes the phone is awesome. It's got an awesome built in battery monitoring app, backup app as good as titanium and its fluid. If you want more power you could set it to a "high performance mode". Battery is superb. What sucks is yeah the updates and the dual sim/micro sd. Btw get the gold edition with 3gb of ram
Just bought one, screen of my LG g3 broken. It beats g3 on every point; great battery life (actually my first handheld that goes - much more- than a day with a charge, much faster than g3, browsing gaming is much better.
And as for updates; I really don't miss the lollipop of the g3 at all.
As prices are quite affordable now, I should say, go and get it!
Does the phone overheat or something?
I know my zenfone 6 would heat too much when playing summoners war.
No heat issue at blitz gaming. browsing or kodi movie watching via WIFI - 32gb iso is smooth and cold.
Playing a lot (right now Halflife port), and NEVER experienced any heating issue (well with LG g3 before!) - and, no noticeable battery drain (because of the huge battery, of course).
All together, also a great game handheld - Much smoother than G3 was.
Thanks guys, bought it
There are several rumors making their rounds where the ram is now being quoted as being 5 or 6 Gb?? can anyone from Asus comment over this?
5-6gb for what  You want your phone to be a supercomputer or something? Planning to play 'Shadow of Mordor' on your phone?
95% (even 99%) people not using upto 4GB. 4GB is more than enough at least for now.
What we really need/want is better battery life and user experience like better camera, better software, better performance, blah blah...
What I want to see Zenfone 3 is 2 (or even 3) days battery life with a 3000mah (or more) battery, 7-10h screen on time. Not 6GB RAM for nothing and 1.5-2h screen on-time.
@ Archmage1809 ... Completely agree on your point...Most of the smartphones who boast on better processors/ram/software sucks in terms of battery.. Lenovo / Gionee are launching phones with 5000mAh...what is the use of a smartphone if it doesnt give better battery backup.
hey now... why should I NOT get to play 'Shadow of Mordor' on my phone given the chance??... just think... you plug your phone with any bigger screen and boom ... every game you ever wanted is right there!!! OTG to connect a mouse and keyboard and you are all set to go ... no need to buy or carry gaming laptops anymore!! ohh the things I could get done if only this comes along! if you can get a replacement of your laptop/tablet/gaming console ...in a neat all in one package ... why the heck not!!
there are other options for better battery life if anyone wants them ... but for 350~400 $ I get an alternative for 1000$ on a minimum..
What is the use of the phone that allows you to play any game you want but in a few hours you have to keep it for charging ?
Yes, No doubt its a great thing that we might get that much amount of ram in some time but without fixing the battery issue which is a necessity that much amount of ram does not make any sense to me.
If they or for that matter any Smartphone manufacturer want to get something right for now that is battery life. If they do and then give us 5/6 gb of ram it would be awesome.
Asus Zenfone 2 4gb model is giving me only 4h screen on time which is not great at all. If you compare it with other phones in the market right now its the worst out of the lot. Battery is the Achilles Heel for this phone.

Agree to this and everyone who says battery is a priority.
@op remember why phones were made. To communicate is the first priority, business application, navigation, news, social media and portable camera. The gaming is just at the end of their priority. Why not buy a device solely made and designed for gaming??? A phone is a phone regardless old tech or smartphone, remember why it was built for in the first place.

Why buy a phone with 4gb when 1gb versions do all that you wrote above... It's a niche market and and should cater to different people.. Let's say they roll out different versions... One with 6gb ram and the other with 6000mah bat.... Everyone is happy..

Fragmentation is why.
We were lucky that Z00A encompassed so many variants, that the same ROM can be used across the board. Z008, ZF 2E, Laser, Selfie, et cetera, weren't so lucky. That group by and large lost out to the developer treats afforded to Z00A.
Bigger battery -> different form factor -> different model.
To say everyone will happy by having more models, is a misunderstanding. The current dumping of models upset a lot of people when they realized they would be left out this time around.
Rather than upping the obvious eyecatchers like RAM that don't really add much to the phone at this point, I'd rather see a Zenfone 2.1 or whatever they want to call it:
Keep the 4GB and the Z3580 (or go Z3590 if they must)
Do something (anything) to improve battery life
Improve the speaker to match the awesomeness-suggesting grill on the back
Include a higher quality camera module that works well in any app, not just ASUS' own
The current CPU and especially RAM should mean it's pretty futureproof, and by keeping the specs roughly the same custom ROMs for the Z00A can be used. ASUS would save on development costs yet produce a cracking phone that could, for the right price, get ASUS' name out there, which would mean a true Zenfone 3 will have to be good when the time comes if they remain serious about the mobile market.
Well I have my hopes up for a plug and play beast... This phone pushed me into learning about Android and Linux on a programming level.. And thanks to Udemy ..I would be ready for something around next year... Thanks for letting me learn something new.. Especially the information about form factors... Really got a different perspective now... But still.. 6gig would be a hellovathing...

I get around 4.5 to 5 hours SOT with power nap, greenify, amplify, project T kernal and superZen debloated... With around 18 to 20 standby... You can track my earlier posts here for screenshots as well... So you CAN get more juice if you twist it right... Check that out first...

I dont want to Hijack this thread for an issue I am facing with this phone. But I have tried every possible thing without rooting (as I dont want to void my warranty just yet) But if you have any posts which helps out please advise that I would like to go through it.
Apart from that staying on the topic. No one can make everyone happy. Hence requirements are different for everyone. My priority is Battery as everything else is available in this phone. There are some Gimmicky things which other phones are giving and Asus Zenfone 2 does not have that but I am fine with that.
There are three things which I consider as Cons for this awesome phone..
1. Battery
2. No backlight for capacitive buttons
3. Display is not that bright when at maximum... Check White to Contrast ratio when max.
Bdw as per the NEWS Asus Zenfone 3 would still have 2/4 gb ram not more.
I'd be down for bigger battery but 5gb ram? Don't think we need that in our phones yet.

Agreed, 20% more battery life is 10x better than 20% more RAM.
Will PM you later when free..
4gb ddr3 to 4gb ddr4
22nm to 14nm
Is the best way to go

Why buy a phone with 4gb when 1gb versions do all that you wrote above... It's a niche market and and should cater to different people.. Let's say they roll out different versions... One with 6gb ram and the other with 6000mah bat.... Everyone is happy..

What your asking is not a niche but a bespoke phone and Asus marketing strategy focuses on mass general market which does not need a bespoke 6gb and 6000mah battery combo. Their lineup and variants with their prices range should have been a dead give away. Maybe try Samsung or HTC which caters to the higher price range and closer to bespoke market.
2GB is fairly sufficient. I have a Huawei Ascend mate 2 with only 16gb internal, 2gb of RAM and a 128gb micro SD and it's more than enough. I did order this device in the 64gb, 4gb ram version and am anxious to see how it is. It's arriving today. If anyone on here has unlocked their bootloader and rooted, would you mind sharing your expierences and or the simplest way to go about this?

Don't install custom rom yet by unlocking your bootloader. Asus so far has been improving their firmwares almost twice a month if I'm not mistaken and it's getting better as it is. There are rumors that the new fw v2.20.40.127 might be coming out this week with a hefty 123mb more or less file size.
But if the current fw and os does not satisfy you, might I suggest the cm12.1 for zf2 nightly which is one of the most popular roms here and in zentalk and so far as per several user comment the most stable of them all for the zf2 x86 device.
