Hey everyone.
I was waiting for the update, but I did not think it was going to happen today. Anyway, I got it while I was at the mall, so I clicked yes for the system update. My epic restarted and everything and did the whole downloading phase. Then when it was about to finish, it says "An error occurred while trying to update your firmware. Please try again later." I was a little disappointed by this. so I waited....and waited...then I checked my about phone settings and it says that I have the DI18 in the baseband ver. but it says update 1 in the firmware. Could anyone else tell me what I should do?
ya you should update manually
I tried to update from the system update menu, but it still came up with the error. Any idea how I can update manually unrooted?
I manually updated and under Firmware version it still says 2.1-update1
But if you got an error message of some kind I don't think it would hurt to manually reinstall the update.

Since it already says DI18 in baseband version and build number,
Would placing the update manually into the root of my SD card have any negative effects?

It's the same update so it should be ok. Just dive right in and we'll work out any problems lol
ah wait. Never mind, I'm not rooted.
I've read someone got the update without having to root. They downloaded the update file, copied to sdcard root, renamed the file to update.zip, booted into samsung recovery, and applied update.zip
The thread name is DI18 update for Stock Roms Only in the Epic 4G Android Development section
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=796885&page=14
Yeah this can be done with the signed file that was floating around from one of Firon's threads. You don't need to be rooted to flash that one

Was pushed to me OTA at around 9PM yesterday.
So after update installed and reboot, I get "checking for software update" and it's just staying there with the circling ring. Is this normal?

It should do so for about 30 seconds or less to confirm that the update is installed (really just tell you that there are no new updates.) If it still hangs, reboot.

So after I finished updating, once it finished booting up the phone said "there are no current updates, your software is up to date". Is this what's supposed to happen?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
Firmware will show 2.1 update1
Build number will show sph-d700 Eclair D18
This is where the updates show, look there on About Phone
You need to boot in recovery mode and have the file named update.zip on ur sd, clear cache in recovery and then update while still in recovery. The rest does itself.
Different steps for rooted users.
Setting->about phone...to see if the update is there

Is there a way to update to 3.2 without loosing root.
Seems like we don't have a way to root it again afterwards.
Sorry newbie to the Tablet world.
Can someone getting the update please pull the link or give before and after version numbers?

This error comes up after the download completes and it says "preparing update" I don't have any extra Recovery installed. Completely stock 3.1 A500
just an idea
Go intto settings, manage apps, all apps - find the system updater and clear it's data, reboot, should reprompt download and may work.
May not. Worth a shot
so is it pull down loh for anybody in Europe/US yet?
Anyway, regarding invalid update I finally managed to pass the invalid system message. BUT, when it rebooted and started updating suddenly it stopped and showed exclamation traffic sign over droidbug in a middle of the updating.
Rebooted and it just reported failed update.
So I guess we have to be patient, eventually it will work.
For those who are on stock rom and never rooted, I recommend to root, then CWR and backup, cause if it happened that I could not boot after unsuccessful update there is backup, so no sweat.
I just now got the update for JB 4.1.1
Heres how I did it....
(Note this is just if you don't get the notification saying the update is ready and you have the requirements to update)
1> Make sure your on stock 4.0.4
2> Make sure you have Nexus S variant i9023 & i9020T
3> Check for an update just in case if one is there ignore all the below steps
4> Go to App>All>Scroll down to "Google Service Framework">Clear its Data
5> Go back to System update in about phone and check for an update (It should say something crazy like "Last checked 1/01/1970
(Sometimes you must do this several times for it to update)
6> Download & Install
7> Enjoy!
I hope that will work! Thanks!
Glad to help
If I help do you mind thanking me? thanks

emmmm..... just lost directions on the last step. Cleared data and
I can see the weird date. 1/1/1970. then I press check now or wait for an update notification?
Thanks.
Yeah, just click on "check now" - if it works it'll put up a 4.1.1 information screen and start downloading straight away.
I'm in the UK and i've been trying this technique to force the update over the past few days...with no luck. This afternoon it worked!

CM9 problem
What should be done if I am already on CM9?
I currently have a 9023 with CM9 RC1. I tried forcing the OTA to appear (clear + stop google framework and then check updates). However I am still not getting the update.
Will I have to first move back to stock ICS 4.04 or can I keep CM9?
Any ideas what I should read to move back to stock ICS?
I got mine just like that but, I cleared the framework data, then tried checkin and the update on the configs. Nothing... Then went to work, and forgot it. Then, I had to send a whataspp to my wife and there it was the OTA.
Buttered smooth, oh yeah

Did you have CM9 when you got the OTA or did you revert back to stock ICS ?
You failed to mention that you usually have to do your directions at least ten times before it shows up.

P.S. I was on stock 4.0.4 locked and not rooted. My phone is from wind - Canada but I live in Israel and I'am on Orange provider.
Pulling the SIM or going into airplane mode with WIFI on is best also. Make sure your wifi is a strong signal. Just reiterating what was said here a thousand times. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736645
If you are not on stock do this.

Dialing *#*#2432546#*#* also forces the phone to check the Google servers! I did that after doing the framework "trick"!
None,I am on pure stock.

My mom's phone is having the same issue, but i have not had a chance to mess with it. Are you using a launcher other than Touchwiz or have tried plugging the phone into a computer and updating with Kies? Thouse are just some ideas I had off the to of my head. This might sound dumb but do you have enough free space for the update on your phone?
It will not update if your not fully stock, this means no custom recovery, ROM, root or removed\frozen apps.

I am having the same issue. I was going to do a factory reset, but it looks like that did not work for you. It also is making me wait 24 hours before I can try again. Guess it is off to the AT&T help line to spend hours on hold.

You can try to Kies Emergency Recovery / Reflash or a odin flash and do factory defaults on top of it.
Just remember this CLEARS EVERYTHING
So make sure you read the guides very carefully and backup everything.
Other people are having the same issue but they just disappear so I have no idea if this fixes it, so if it does please let us know.
Full reset is a PITA but it usually works.

Talking to friends today and seeing a couple posts I didn't realize that it's about a 1GB update. Make sure you have enough free space, I'd try freeing up a ton of space and see if that helps.

I was at 4.4.2 then 4..4.4 - Rooted and installed Safestrap. Now 5.0.1 update says interrupted as OP says.
Are you sure if I odin back to 4.4.2 - the update to 5.0.1 is possible? - I know its PITA - but atleast if somebody has done before
that motivates me to try .
thanks

This was my problem. Finally got it to install. Feels like a new phone! Wish my s4 wasn't so badly damaged now lol
I just got a notification for an update today. Anyone else received it?

Yes, finished updating, April security update
Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk
Is it just me, or did this take forever? Mine began to self-download, with no option to delay? It took over an hour to download, and then when it finally began the install step, it got stuck on the white Verizon logo for a while. In fact, it's been about 5 minutes, and I am still waiting for it to power up so I can use it!
For a security update, yes, abnormally longer than usual. White Verizon logo screen for what seemed like 10 minutes, no Android is updating apps either, just a quick storage optimization
Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk
I've been conditioned over the years with a rooted phone and unlocked boot loader to never apply OTA updates. Do security updates mess up root or anything?
Haven't rooted in such a long time, I can't say, but I certainly would want security updates as soon as possible!
Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk
I didn't update as I am rooted as well. I'm going to hold off till we get a rooted version
Sent from my HTC6545LVW using Tapatalk
Just finished the update. Took about 20 minutes total to download and install. Most of that time was "stuck" on the Verizon splash screen during installation.
Got it too... Shows that the patch level is now April 1.
Anyone able to verify if it messes up root or not? I've been pushing off the update but it's persistent. Any way to simply disable OTA so I stop getting notified?

Yes you can stop notifications, take some time and do a little searching.

OTA does not "mess up" root if you are systemless root; you'll just need to redo Magisk.
If you have written to \system, the OTA won't take at all.
Also, the OTA won't "complete" if you have other than stock recovery; you'll need to flash the firmware manually in htc_fastboot or via an update.zip.
