[Q] Find sms texts on copy of phone folders - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I had to switch to a new Galaxy S4. I ignorantly just hooked the old one up to my computer using a USB cable and copied the entire contents of the internal and external drives to a folder on my PC.
I want to bring the SMS texts to my new S4 phone. I realize I should have used a backup utility app for this but it is too late.
Where is the SMS database file in that folder. I have not even received or sent a text yet on my new phone so I should be able to find that file and move it over without concern of losing any sms texts on my new phone... I searched for *.db and didn't get anything.
Any ideas?

Storing SMS to storage card, help needed

After my Vario II gradually slowed to a halt and stopped receiving calls or sending text messages, I finally had to admit defeat and do a hard reset (not bad going though, I managed 4 months without hard resetting)
I am now going through the long process of getting everything back the way I like it (I stupidly didn't have a backup program installed!). I am sure I found a registry tweak to store, by default, all of my SMS text messages to my storage card and looking at the contents of my card, I do have a folder which seems to agree with this as it does look like it is full of my most recent SMS messages, but I can not, despite searching for a few hours, find the tweak to do this again.
Can anyone help? I have found something about temporary internet files but nothing about SMS/text messages.
Thanks in advance for any help.
I am just bumping this in the hopes that someone may be browsing who knows the answer .. I shall keep my fingers crossed. Thanks.
first post virgin
One I usually do when I want to preserve my SMS messages is use SPB backup, and select just the emails/messages to be backed up, this will back em up to the memory card as an exe.
when your happy with your new "build" on your phone simply run the exe and the messages are back.
Hope that helps?
Thanks for that Craig. I will give SPB Backup a go, it really would make sense for me to install a backup program, it would have made the recent hard reset less painful as far as reinstalling stuff was concerned
I am still interested in knowing where the registry entry is for the sms storage location because I would like to be able to access the various messages I appear to have on my storage card ... I can't for the life of me remember how I managed to change the location to get them on there in the first place, it was several months ago and I have't bothered to save the post/webpage I got the info from .. silly me!
Thanks
Check out Jeyo mobile extender for outlook, everytime you sync with your ppc via activesync and outlook it will back up your sms to outlook.
Not quite the same, but efficasoft Mobile express will allow you to send messages from your PC through a connector when the PPC is connected to active sync.
You can see your messages in the softwares in box, and export them to a text file thus backing them up but you cant import them back into the phone unfortunatly

Need help recovering MMS/text messages from a dead wizard

Hi there
My xda mini has finally died after a long life. It actually still 'works' but the screen only shows white so i cant actually use it.
Anyway I was wondering if theres anyway to recover my text messages and multimedia messages from off the phone. I can still connect to active sync and have a poke around through the memory. I've found what looks like the MMS data in folders called MMS UA and MMS log. However the files are just .dat files. Any idea how i can turn these back into viewable files. Also i didnt find any obvious text message folders.
Thankyou in advance for any help.
Davey
ps im on o2 if thats important
Install Pocket Controller on your computer and then you will be able to see what is on your screen via the pc. You can download the trial version which works for free for four days from here
http://www.soti.net/default.asp?Cmd=Products&SubCmd=pcprodnld
Then you can either send the mms's and text messages to another phone the usual way or you can back them up using pimbackup which i have attached to this post. This needs to be ran from on the phone just unzip and place it anywhere on your device or sd card and open it using file explorer by clicking on it
This will work only if the touch screen is still working though as you have to confirm the install of pocket controller
Just keep pressing the bottom left of the wizard screen once active sync has finished installing the device software
Good luck

Recover Deleted folder SMSes (messages).. how to?

Hi all
got little big problem. I mistakenly deleted one conversation in inbox. It is at this time 780 in/out come SMS/MMS. communication fall into Deleted items folder. Question: How do i undelete these? I was trying to order by name and mark them to undelete but not possible to mark selection on HD2.
Any hints how to undetele generally more messages together? I lost importance of Deleted items folder, if i can't udelete items in it other then one by one.
Thanx,
Ondrej
Same problem here, accidentally deleted some important sms. is there a way to get them back?
Okay, there is a program named Jeyo (manager?/smth like that). - the name is "Jeyo Mobile Companion" I got it, there is possibility to moving messages between folders, i hope that this should help me. But there was still not time to connect a phone and do that There is only thing i am afraid - in deleted folder, is may be not possible to see deference between "sent" and "incoming" messages, hope that there will be some other key that can recognize this, to able to order - mark - move to expected folder.
I let U know once i found working solution.

Moving SMS inbox contents from Samsung Wave to Galaxy S

Is there any way I can move my SMS inbox/sent items to the Galaxy S from my Samsung wave?
I bet you can use Kies to do that? Go backup your sms' on Kies, and I'm sure you can import them to the SGS.
Regards
I was able to do that one with my contacts, but so far didnt find a way with my inbox
I'm not familiar with Bada, can you install stuff from the market?

Yeah, I just had a look on Kies. Can copy texts from SGS to pc but not the other way around. Kinda sucks.
Only other thing I can think of is that apparently you should be able to backup sms to SD-card on the wave in the messaging app on the phone. Dunno how, but it's mentioned a few times on the web. Maybe that backup can be used?

I had a look at the manual, here: http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/c...01984/GT-S8500_UM_Open_Eng_Rev.1.3_100511.pdf
On page 44, it says that you can select a message, then click the ... button, and select "Backup to memory card".
Usually this results in a .xml file. In that case, you can then use the SMS Backup and Restore app from the market, to import the xml file to your Galaxy S.
Hello All,
I have a similar question but for MMS. My wife used an old S8530 as spare phone ; now she will be happy if I can transfer her MMS to his newly repaired phone... (and a happy wife make a happy man... but that's another topic....)
So, for SMS, no pronblem, it works fine with kies ver 2.6.3 (but you need 2 mobiles compatible with kies). Just connect them in the same time on the computer, then in Kies select the wave and in section "backup/restore" select "transfer to another device", select the android phone and you are done.
Trouble : MMS are NOT transfered.
Any Idea on how to proceed with these ?
(and for information I found the option of saving the messages to SD card, but it saves only SMS)
All suggestions are welcomed.
Fred
(although note that I can NOT log on samsung app but after log the app crashes [so not possible to download app via this portal])

How to export text messages for one contact to PC

I recent;y lost my S7 , and although I keep backups of most of what I've put on the phone, the text messages weren't backed up (I had Verizon cloud turned off).
The issue is that my wife died last year, and when I lost the s7, I lost all of our text exchanges. Fortunately, I have her phone, which also has our exchanges from her end.
She was big on texting, so there are a lot of texts from co-workers, friends, family, etc.
So...
What I'd like to be able to do is to export only our text exchanges to a format in which they can be easily read on Windows 7. I suppose I'll need an Android/Samsung app that can do the exporting and a windows 7 application to read the texts on my PC.
Is this possible?
Thanks!
