The NFC component (antenna) is not in the back cover. It's in the battery. The flip cover should make no difference in NFC operation.
There is probably a confounding factor here, or possibly a bug. My bet is that the PEBKAC.

Similar problem as well, except that I brought a wireless charger, the supplied back cover works great with the wireless charging and NFC, but I really wanted a flip cover, I've first got a Momax flip view and brought a QI/NFC receiver that goes inside the cover, QI charging works great, but no NFC, brought a WiQi flip view cover with it built in, same problem, no NFC, just went and brought a Samsung S4 with both built in, still no NFC, put the Samsung supplied wireless charging cover on and it works.....go figure?

Official Docks for Defy?

Anyone tried putting a magnet next to the back of their Defy?
I have this leather case for an old XDA I used to have, which has a magnet built in to clasp the strap closed.
When I put the defy in, it came up with a multimedia dock interface!
Also, putting the magnet at another point puts it into the car windscreen dock interface.
I looked on the Motorola website for the accessories, but they list the milestone multimedia/windscreen docks under the Defy accessories.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the Milestone's usb port is in the wrong place to fit?
Yes, the milestone won't fit. I'm waiting for a desk-stand, too

Problem is, it'll switch into car mode every time you use that...
magnet polarity
Turn the polarity of magnet!
If you put the magnet same place like in the car mount (behind of the menu button), but with reversed polarity. The phone runs the media home instead of car home.
I understand that's how it works.
Thing is, how easy is to to get to the magnet?
Are you likely to end up ruining or breaking the dock whilst trying to remove and reinsert it?
If you don't want the magnet to work, can't you put the phone in upside down? Most of my apps work fine inverted. I realize that puts the usb on top...
I just bought a cheap mount from China on eBay now. No magnet

Possible solution to GPS problem on Nexus S

Hi,
i've tried just about anything to improve GPS singal on my Nexus S, i was so desperate i even thinked about selling it. But by accident i've found something interesting.
When you remove battery cover signal from GPS is really good, usable even indoors 1-2 meters from window. When you put cover back - it suddenly drops. Here's the best part - when i use different cover directly on the back of the phone, WITHOUT original battery cover (i have thick back case which you put on battery cover, anti scratch thing) signal was just as fine as without any cover!
Then i tried covering back of the phone with a case from another phone (Galaxy S) and signal was fine.
So the culprit is NFC spiral which is sticked to the battery cover. I'd like to take it off, but im not sure if it is possible to stcik it back in case of RMA or something.
I'd like you to try this simple experiment and tell me if your phones suffer from the same thing.
Thanks
hmm interesting
Lol wow with cover on I get 2-3 .. without cover 3-4.5 ... lol

What about turning NFC off?
Today i took off NFC antenna and it didn't work, which is strange. Now the culprit is whole battery cover. As i said i tried different cases and GPS was working fine with them.
Hello,
in our german community we discuss this problem, too. The Problem isn't the NFC antenna, it's the backcover! Some user tried with another cover from ebay: http://www.ebay.de/itm/250846706756?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 and this seems to work better!

Yup, that exactly what i considered. It's really funny, because original battery cover is making GPS works like s**t.
If that cover form ebay is really working i might consider buying it, i'll try to read original thread, thanks.
Have you tried that cover? My German isn't that great and neither is google translate. But from what i read this is really working, but i don't know how well.
im guessing NFC wont work without the stock battery cover
when did this GPS problem started?
it must be new...

Hehe. Put your NFC antenna back on. Google wallet is awesome.
Hey guys
I have my Nexus S (Blandroid + Trinity T144) tested just now, and now I only realize the GPS unit is on the right side of the phone.
Take off your cover, you should see a black, duct-tape like module pasted on almost 3/4 of the right side of Nexus S (the side where power button is located). That should be the GPS unit.
Tested with cover on, landscape with right side of the phone pointed upwards, I gained a score of 40~41 in one or two of the satellite in my view (GPS Test by Chartcross Ltd). When I test it with cover off, I gained a score of 45~47 in a few of the satellite.
Conclusion is, if you need a better GPS signal, you will need to hold it landscape with camera pointing to the left. Portrait mode will not works too well I guess. I wonder how Apple products can gain locks near instantly.
that's what i always do when i want to use GPS for navigation, pull off the battery cover.
it's almost impossible to get a fix with the battery cover on.
Humm I really wanted to delete this post but there isn't an option
Wow, i tried to get gps fix in my home without cover and it work!

s4 nfc is located where?

Hi all
The note2 nfc located at battery cover. S3 at battery
Anyone knows s4 nfc is located where?

It's built into the battery just like the S3 as far as I know, so it's on the back.

I want to ask 1 more question. I had an oem s3 battery with reported nfc ready
But it can't do nfc function such as s beam
I thought I got conned but when I open the battery sticker I saw the nfc antenna on it
So my question is. Why in this s3 battery case, the nfc can't work?
Have you turns nfc on? It's much like Bluetooth you need to tun it on on both devices before it can be used.
Usually the NFC chips are located within the phones themselves. The antenna for the NFC is located in the battery.

If the battery case you are trying is metal then I believe it will block the NFC signal from getting through.

It is possible the nfc antenna in my s3 case facing the phone instead of facing the battery cover?
sunshine Good NFC Antenna
As far as I have known, only when NFC antenna are used in the back of the mobile can they provide outstanding performance. Therefore, the NFC antenna must be somewhere in the back of your mobiles. Thing has two contact pads, it is likely to be NFC antenna. Of course, if you can't find any plots, the antenna gets big chance to be integrated with the battery.

The cover is really, really annoying. Especially for me, who uses bluetooth through my car speakers for my main music stuff. So each time I get in the car I plug the phone into the 12 volt. And each time, I have to pry open that cover. The worst part is, it doesn't even stay open! I also just got my Incipio dual layer protection case in the mail and now its even harder to get the charging cover off. It's really aggravating. I don't even think it closes correctly either. It always looks like its not snapped down all the way. Just, bleh. Most annoying quirk on the 4 Samsung phones I've owned.
just get the spare battery charge kit so you never have to mess with it. Its also a better means of going from zero to 100 than wireless charger

Yeah I'm not really sure what to do here. I have a bunch of 3D models for phone docks / car docks / etc for the gs3 and gs4, the battery cover is a total nuisance on the gs5, especially because it doesn't really stay open after you open it (I'm trying to imagine how to go about designing a dock for this thing).
I do 3D modeling and have a 3D printer, if anyone has an idea for an improvement... holler. I doubt we'll see any kind of other 3rd party replacement otherwise as it's attached to the phone and clearly involved with waterproofing. not sure if it's worth the trade-off!
anywho guess I'll be giving wireless charging a try again...
If you take off the battery cover there is a screw where it holds the USB cover just take it off your not prone to accidents

Yeah definitely good that it's easy to do that - personally I'm not really upset or frustrated; it's awesome to add waterproofing - I'm just trying to puzzle out the best way to keep the feature while also making the phone easy to slide into a dock (preferably with one hand), you know?

Pitaka Case

I just pre-ordered a Pitaka case for my Note 10+ and saved 10%. I have one for my S10+ and it's by far my favorite minimalist case I have ever owned.
I love that it has built in metal plates for their magnetic car mount AND still works with wireless charging.

The case doesn't have a magnet in it, it just has thin metal plates so it works with magnetic car mounts. So I really don't think it will interfere with the SPen at all. They also made the case for previous Note models with no issues.
Best or not ???

I ran into some weird behavior with my Note 8 and the mag mount. If I set the device too far to the left, the magnet did interfere with the sensor that says the S-Pen is removed, and small tweaks would happen all by itself. It would instantly go away when I moved the device to the right position. Nothing harmful though.
Oh and I've already ordered my new Pitaka case for the Note 10+, cause the set up is THAT good

I absolutely hate clip style car mounts and have always used the magnetic style car mounts.
That's an issue with wireless charging (if you get a case with a metal plate built in) take the case off, put the case on, take the case off, put the case on, and I only use thin fit cases, basically not to scratch the back of the phone when I set it down.
Pitaka setup solves all the problems.
I just found out about them with my S10+

Yes, I use the MagMount. Wireless fast charging works fine. Every once in a while I will need to move the phone slightly for it to change from charging to fast charging, but that's like once every 10 times or so.
