On my Sprint S4, the Domestic Roaming Guard selections are greyed out. They automatically get checked when you tell the phone it's okay to use voice and data while roaming, but there is no direct way to turn the guards off. First time you do a data connection, it gives you the roaming guard warning but gives you a checkbox to turn the message off in the future. And sure enough, that greyed out line in the roaming guard screen becomes unchecked. But every phone call made or received throws up the roaming guard warning without a checkbox to turn it off in the future.
It seems other Sprint users are seeing this same greyed out behaviour. Sprint support says it should not work that way, but can't confirm it as they have no S4's to play with yet.
So my question is, are other carriers phones working this way as well? How about phones with the latest updates (MDL, MDN, MDN)?
To check it, goto Settings > Connections tab > More Networks > Roaming > Roaming Guard
Almost 60 views and nobody can help me out? I don't know if that means nobody wants to check it on their phone or if everyone has it greyed out or ??
It's greyed out for me also

Hey do anyone know if the NS can roam? The reason I ask is because where I live there's basically no t_mobile service but there is ATT service. So I was wondering is there's a way to get the phone to roam on ATT network instead of T-Mobile?
I went into setting > Network and Wireless > Mobile Network Settings and clicked network operators and ATT displayed. I clicked it and got the popup that it was "Registering with ATT" but then got the message that this sim card do not allow connection to that provider"
Also why do the bars change green to white, do they indicate something when they change colors?

the change in color indicates connectivity to google services
Yes you can but you will get your standard roaming charges.
If T-Mobile has a roaming agreement where you are and you can not access T-Mobile's native network then the NS will roam, just like any other T-Mobile phone. It is not at all different from the rest of their phones.

So when they turn Green then they're connecting to Google services and when they're white, they're not?

Well let me ask you this, I was at the mall yesterday and all of a sudden I had no bars and signal. I tried to make a call and it said something to the effect of "Mobile network unavailable...emergency calls only" Wouldn't the phone roam at this point or no?
I also went into settings > wireless and Networks > Mobile Networks a> Network Operators ...I did a search ATT popped up, Iclicked it and got the message that it was registering..then I got the message that it was unable to register with ATT. Can the phone be forced to roam and connect to another carrier?
Hi
Whenever I'm out of Wifi-range, and want to connect via UMTS/edge nothing happens, even though its enabled as far as I know. If i go into settings -> about phone -> status and look under "Mobile network type", it says UMTS. But then further down under "Mobile network state" is says disconnected. How do i turn this on then?
Did you unlock your phone? Check your apn settings you will need to change them to your specific carrier in denmark.
Thanks! Found my carriers apn and now it works! Im still a bit of an android virgin im used to Steve Jobs and his fruit-loving staff deciding for me
I was messing around in service mode *#0011# trying to see if there is anything in regards to domestic sim unlocking. I changed some settings and I thought I borked my phone big time. I was getting no signal and invalid sim even for my sprint lte sim card. After trying to revert settings, I got everything working again. However, I still think something is not right. When I go back to service mode, there isn't any default diagnostic information displayed. It just shows no service. I could have sworn it displayed information as soon as you go into the service mode menu. In any event, I have two questions:
1) Does anyone have a website that shows all the default settings under the service mode for sprint? Perhaps someone can take screen shots and create a thread with default settings for us idiots who changed settings and want to revert back
2) When changing network mode under settings>connections>more networks>mobile networks , what message is displayed before the phone restarts? My phone currently says "Phone will restart to apply new SIM settings". I might be paraniod but I could have sworn the message was different before I changed settings in the service mode menu. Can anyone please confirm?
Thanks!

For #2
Mine said " Phone will restart to apply new Customer settings"
I am on
ForceROM 2.3
KT 6.10
A few tweaks but does not retain to kernel/Rom just ecstatic apparel.
Sorry, can't help you much on #1.
Hope that helped.
Thanks.. guess it confirms what I thought.
I just got my Galaxy s5 as an upgrade and I put in my sim card. Everything works as expected, good call quality, good texts but when I'm on the train for work, where there isn't any wifi, my data doesn't work, nor does any other place without wifi. I look under system settings and it says not roaming and other things. I look under my data settings and there isn't an option to turn on roaming. I'm right now paying for something I can't use, what do I do? If it matters, I'm on consumer cellular right now.
Roaming means it allows you to switch to a different carriers network, when you are outside of the coverage of your own carriers network
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roaming
If you are within the coverage of your own carrier, you should be able to use data normally, if not, call your carrier and ask them what's wrong, probably just need the service settings sent to the phone to set up data
Or try adding the APN settings manually

Is this supported or not, motorola says to call verizion but they don't truly know themselves from the basic people i've talked with over the phone. I got the phone activated and updated to -35 but it's not under the options which makes no sense.

Do you have "HD voice" enabled under your My verizon account? You have to enable it for the number you want VOLTE on. It's under "My Plan & Services" and "Manage Products & Apps".
EDIT: Once you enable it, give your phone about 15 to 30 mins and it should pop up under network settings on your phone.
