I am having this problem where opening camera app will sometimes cause the phone to reboot. Does anyone else having this problem? I just want to confirm either this is firmware issue or hardware issue.
I'm running build I9500XXUAMDL. Stock, not rooted. System updated recently. Had the same problem before the last update too (can't remember previous build number).
Update:
1) The problem is still there with ME1 update.
2) It happens with 3rd party camera as well (I tried CameraZoom FX) so I believe the problem is on lower level than app.
No camera issue here. Using XXUAMDL firmware.
Yes same problem.. On DXUAMDK.. Happens with my friend's s4 as well
The camera uses the external sd card if one is installed. Try setting it to use internal only.
My S4 has issues with accessing the external sdcard (seems a common problem where the solution is reformat the external sd card.)

lol what do you expect? no device will be bug free ever!!! Every device have their own set of issues... whether the issue is reproducible by others is the question. We all know samsung ****ed up the release of s4 and rushed it in advance due to competition and hence we still have some bugs here and there.
Wait for few weeks until the bugs are fixed, im sure in a month or so the s4 will be more than perfect.

I know it's been rushed to compete with the z and one. But looking at s4 bugs, I think the most buggy of the 3. Heat +brightness throttle +battery (unplugged mine from 100 went down to 99 after 5m' screen on time and I had no Wakelocks) + this + smearing, that's a lot.

I've had my Note for under a month now. I've been ever so careful with it. My heart skipped a beat when one day, all of a sudden, the screen just went mad!
I scoured the Web but couldn't find any other instance of this but the other day, in another thread, a few people have said that they've experienced the same problems. It's happened to my friends phone as well. I thought both of us were sold defective pieces to be honest but it looks like a global issue.
This is not just a case of screen flicker and screen changing colours on a white background. It goes haywire! Almost like the old television sets with their rainbow effect.
This has happened pre and post ICS; so it's definitely not a software issue. It has to be a hardware defect.
When I tried taking a screen shot of it, it just took a screen shot of the app I was using before the madness began.
It happened again last night. This time, fortunately or unfortunately, the screen stayed that way till I hit the power button. I had enough time to take a photo of it using a friends phone. Check it out :

+1 I don't use live wallpapers either. Phone's not rooted either. It's probably an issue with the graphics chip. And it seems to be a global issue and not limited to any region as such.

I sure hope you're right because the same thing happened to my laptop once. The screen started flickering this way occasionally and it the frequency increased. In the end, I was told that the chip and the screen needed to be changed. Luckily it was still under warranty at that point.
Just hoping the same thing doesn't happen to this AFTER the warranty lapses!
never experienced this.. i used ICS for 2 days, no sign of this issue back then.. and now im back to GB...
is this what they call pixel salad?
flicker or pixel salad, whataever you name, mostly happens when you end the call or call disconnection...the same happened to me and gone through the logcat and reproduced the same once again..

just wondering for those of you who experienced this sort of pixelation, where did you get your note from?? mine was from the the telco when i renewed my contract and seems to me that it is more likely a defective unit..

Honestly, I thought my friend and I were sold defective pieces here but as I mentioned earlier, from the kind of response this thread is getting, it's definitely a global issue.
My unit was manufactured in Vietnam. Bought it at a store here in India. It's probably a case of a batch of defective units. Samsung needs to take stock of this. With their over zealous selling spree, it wouldn't surprise me if someone at the quality testing team was made to look the other way. Conspiracy theory maybe but who knows eh?

Hi everyone!
For some short time, thanks to our great developers, we have CM10 aka Jelly Bean!
But this also brought some problems with it. Some users are said to have lags. Fault for this is said to be the different speed of the NAND partition. I do not want to discuss this here, because I am of the opinion that CM10 is insanely fast, even with older chips. -> seems to be solved now, with the new partition layout :victory:
But how do I check the date of manufacture (DOM)? After a short search on the internet I've found how to check when your phone was manufactured, but this may vary of course from the sale date, so please be careful. And it also says nothing about the speed of your NAND partition.
Open dialer, type *#*#197328640#*#* to open SERVICE MODE (if it isn't working try only *#197328640#*)

My phone is older than yours and i didn't expect such big lags on cm10. In fact, the latest build is very smooth and responsive.
Maybe the lags aren't caused by slow NAND partition at all, because the slow one has still 54Mbit/s speed, could be enough for data partition.
I believe in pawitp's work. Till it isn't even a official CM10 build we can be happy to have JB on our SGS..
I guess you have to just test the rom with full wipe (+format system) to know for sure, if it runs well on your phone.

I never heard anything. For the time being I've built the CM10 and ported the AOKP framework.
CM10 is going to final builds soon, and AOKP has already stopped at M1, so once this gets all ironed out there won't really be any changes. Future updates will address bugs only until I can figure out the Git myself and add the Camera.

I had no problems charging as mtp was already checked off from my previous install of JC Sullins' preview CM10. Matter of fact, if you plug into usb, even though it won't connect you can then tap usb connected from notifications and see whether mtp is checked off or not and check if needed.

I've had my Nexus 4 16GB for almost a month with no problems.
I plugged in my phone and went to shower for 10 minutes.
When I came back, I turned on the screen, and now I have a constant dim flickering over my entire display!
I've restarted twice and the problem persists.
How can I determine if this is a software or hardware issue?
If it is a hardware issue, do I have to remove the root (done about a week or 2 ago) before I send it to Google for a replacement?
Likely software. Some other phones I've had have also had screen flicker. If you do RMA it and it turns on and boots you should probably unroot and relock the boot loader.

That's not exactly what mine looked like, the flicker was more of a flashing of the entire screen. That very well could be a hardware issue, but don't take my word for it. I never flashed a ROM or wiped anything to fix the problem. I simply turned the phone off a few times for around 10 or 15 minutes each time, and I just didn't see any more flickering. Hope yours can be fixed this way too
Doesn't look like it, I left it off for about 6 hours, still pretty stuffed. This is definitely hardware... looks like my night just went from bad to worse. :/
Oh that sucks
Hopefully you can get a replacement quickly.

I have read where the KitKat upgrade for the G2 is supposed to add speed and increase battery life even further. For me however it seems its the opposite. I have had way worse battery life since installing (pc lg tool) the KitKat update. I was going all day with anywhere from 40 - 30% left when it was finally plugged in for the night, now I am lucky if I make it to the end of the night. At first I thought perhaps it was just in need of a reboot, but I have done that several times since installation and battery times are still worse. What I don't understand is the battery meter says "System" is to blame for 53% cpu time. Before screen time was my number one battery drain, now its just from being on?.... I don't get it.. Anyone else having this issue, or can shed some light?

That's just it, i haven't done anything different. It can't be an app because i haven't installed anything since the upgrade. What bothers me is it seems to be a system process that's causing it.

Not sure if it is something generic across KitKat or if it is specific to my ROM but pocket mode was killing my battery since it was constantly powering my proximity sensors looking for light to unlock the screen.

I provided the path above, like I said though not sure if it is specific to the ROM i'm on(PA 4.4.2) or not. It the only real exposure to kitkat that I've had. If it isn't a default kitkat thing i apologize if I got your hopes up. I will say this though, if it is don't get your hopes up. It's rather annoying and a massive battery drain. With it on my phone acted like it had half the battery it does.
I don't have location settings turned on, so google now shows unavailable for location, also I don't have security turned on, so I have no security lock screen notification settings that I could find... I'm assuming this is only on if you are using pin, or pattern lock. Thanks for the suggestions tho... I'm going to keep monitoring it and see how it goes. So far today it seems to have normalized, Android System is only showing 2%, which is more like it.
I'm on Official LG Stock KK and to be truthful the battery life has been pretty bad. Like not really comparable to 4.2.2 and definitely not comparable to vanilla Android(of course). What's the issue? Anyone know?
