Whenever I download a file on my Nexus 7 i.e, pdf ppt pptx doc docx xls xlsx txt and others for which I have applications that are capable of opening; the download manager simply says it Can't open file. I've factory reset my device nly to be back on the same issue. This annoys me to no end. Everytime I download a pdf I have to use a file manager to open it.

My files do open from Downloads using Docs-to-Go for the file types you listed. What suite are you using to open these files otherwise? Even though you have done an fdr, try clearing cache and data for Downloads and your apps for the file types. Perhaps an incorrect app got associated with your files.
were you able to fix this?

Did you manage to fix this?
use a third party browser like dolphin works like magic
celebrating 269 thanks!
My biggest Thank You goes to XDA and all its members! Thanks guys!
I fixed it by resetting Chrome. I believe the downloads get messed up by the 'reduce data usage' setting.

I have written a little app that allows for altering of the SDConfig.txt file used in UC, with the ability to create "CAB: ....." statements automatically after the user has selected a CAB. The same works for XML and SHOW commands.

}
Requirements:
.NET CF 3.5
Only useful with a UC compatible ROM
QVGA device
Usage
Either load the "Default" (Storage Card\SDConfig.txt", "Other" (a file of your choosing) or create a new file.
Click on images at the top of the page and select files.
Save file as either "Default" (Storage Card\SDConfig.txt" or "Other" (a file of your choosing).
Know Issues:
When using an empty file, new line is created at the top of the page.
Future plans:
Bug fixes!
Addition of "browse" rather than search functionality.
Cab file rather than exe.
Ability to call SDAutoRun automatically for testing.
VGA Compatability.

Anyone can help me ..

If that's the case, save the file to somewhere like \My Documents and then copy it to the root of your internal memory manually.
This is a freeware that I found by Hou Ming that addresses all the missing features that should have been included in the Windows Mobile stock File Explorer.

Some of the new fatures :
*Resizable header for easy sorting by file name, date of last modification or size
*Tree view of folders; you can now jump easily from a location to any other on your device in one step
*Show extension option for those who ask themselves the same question I do: “What type of file is this?
*Icon view that enables the display of files as icons similar to your desktop computer
*Real time image preview; now you don’t have to open several files in order to send the one you desire
*Open with Program allows you easily select an application to open the specific file you select (useful in case you don’t have the correct file associations or when you want Album app to open your images instead of Windows default picture viewer.
*File property context menu for easy renaming and attribute changing
*Open all executables with Parameters in case you need a special parameter when launching an application
*Sending shortcut to Programs for instant shortcut creation of executables placed directly in Programs folder in Start Menu.

Is there a way to choose custom folders in Sense Gallery or Android stock Gallery or Photos (Android 2.1) instead of having it show ALL the photos and videos?
I have an archive folder which has thousands of pictures and I don't want it showing up every time because it takes a while to load.
Or is there an apk that'll do this?
+1 I'm not a fan of this either... You can hide certain ones if you press menu but nothing specific.
Can't believe some of the brainiacs over here haven't figured this out yet..
create a ".nomedia" file in the folder

It's been discussed here before too
Gallery Enabler should do the trick. I haven't tried it on 2.2 yet but it works great on 2.1.

Gallery Enabler does the .nomedia trick, only from your phone so you can enable/disable folders whenever you like.

I know about the .foldername trick.. I don't like it though because a file or folder with . (period) in the beginning will not show up on my mac of pc either.. (on PC I could say view hidden files.. which again, I don't like..on Mac I'd have to install Houdini or something)..
Also It's a hassle when I WANT it to show.. in which case I'd have to rename the folder. I'd rather using a normal file name and not have it show

Awesome.. that worked. Thanks a bunch.
Hi, for so many days I've been installing new games and softs to my phone and I felt particularly annoyed to do it the usual way.
Usual Way
Plug-in the phone
Drag down notification
Select USB mode
Wait for windows to identify USB
Copy apk file to phone
Disconnect USB mode
wait for phone to media scan, etc
Manually install apk from phone file browser
So you see these are lots of steps, even if you want to copy a file, you need to follow this list....
But there's one more way
Doing the AndroManager way
Plug-in phone via data cable
Open AndroManager or simply open apk file via androManager
DONE
Same for copying file too with interactive virtual file browser
Features
Great Look
Tiny App
with Driver Installer
Simple copy-paste
Even copy apk file from explorer and install via Clipboard
Reboot, reboot to recovery
File-association

That's the obvious way. But if you don't have access to any wifi plus your carrier data connection is slow. The only way left if downloading using PC internet.
This exclusive application is included the Samsung Ativ and comes with S Note Metro App.
Install S Note Metro App isn´t required but recommended. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47800742&postcount=49
1. To install Mini S Note, download this rar LINK
2. Copy folder, for example in c:/program files (x86)/Samsung. So everything is more organized :good:
3. Execute Quicknote.exe and voila. Now you can create a shortcut on the desktop.
Tested in Windows 8.1 Spring Update with Media Center and Surface Pro 2.

thank you
Thank you for all your help, I just finished installing snote, gallery, camera, and player. I thought I'd try snote mini, but Im not having any success with your link. when I click on it there are several options. Does it matter which one I download? when I put it in the folder and run the file it opens and then says an error caused it to close. I don't use it much, but would like to get it working on my cpu if I can. Thanks again for all your help

Hello. You need all the files and create a shortcut to quicknote.exe. It is very easy.
In GDrive if you select "File", you will see the option to download the .zip with all the files. :good:
