Squaretrade vs Warrantylife insurance fos S4 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Trying to decided whether to get the squaretrade warranty vs the warrantylife.
Warrantylife.com seems to offer the better deal and has 2 options:
Standard Features:
No hidden fees or repair costs
If a product can't be repaired it will be replaced or a replacement credit issued
Power surge protection
Manufacturer authorized service centres
Unlimited number of claims
30 day money back guarantee
Extra Features:
Complimentary 3 way shipping with UPS
Accidents happen, get additional protection today:
Protection from drops and spills with coverage starting on the date of purchase.
$50 deductible required for accidental claims.
2 Year Accidental Damage Warranty
for 89.99
or a 3 year plan 129.99
Where as Squaretrade has a 2 year plan for $99 and a deductible of $99
I dont know whether or not you can transfer the warranty in Warrantylife or if they will give you cash back if you sell your phone before the 2 year plan, however on paper it appears to be the better deal especially since they only have a $50 deductible.
has anyone had any experience with Warrantylife?

Not right now, those plans are usually very expensive with very high deductibles. For example, if you do lose your phone, you'll be paying $165 deductible plus the price of your plan. In most cases, you won't lose it within the 2 year contract time frame. It's of course all risk, but most likely you'll drop it a few times and need to fix it.

Squaretrade Nexus One policy!

Squaretrade now offers a 24-month $599 coverage policy for the Nexus One, Droid, and other expensive phones. It includes accidental damage. Cost is $144+tax. I paid about $109 using a 20% off coupon (NEWYEAR).
This is much better coverage than Asurion / T-Mobile offers, and with the discount it's priced about the same. (Slightly cheaper.)
I wish it could be purchased without the extended warranty, since my credit card offers that for free, but I feel a lot better with accidental damage coverage!
Note: I do not have any prior experience dealing with this company.
Thank you for contacting SquareTrade.
We appreciate your interest in SquareTrade Care Plan.
Yes, we do provide a warranty for the new Nexus One from Google.
We provide coverage for brand new Premium Smart Phones such as the Nexus One purchased from retailer/e-tailer up to $599, regardless if it were purchased up front or on a contract (regardless of the price), for $144.
Additionally, for retail bought items you have 90 days following the item purchase date to get a SquareTrade warranty.
Below given are our coverage details for a new cell phone purchased from a retailer:
Our standard warranty covers mechanical and electrical failures that occur during normal use. You get 100% Parts & Labor coverage with zero deductibles.
Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) is also included in cell phone plan.
ADH covers eligible items from liquid spills, drops, or any other accidental damage from handling ($50 deductible from coverage limit applies to ADH claims).
However, any repairs for any electronic or mechanical issues due to normal wear and tear would not be subject to any deductibles.
For more information, please visit the Learn More section of our website at http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/learn-more-warranty-buyer.
Furthermore, on new items, our coverage starts from the date of item purchase. If you purchased your item as new, some part of this period will overlap with the manufacturer's warranty that comes with your item. Most new items we cover come with a one year manufacturer's warranty.
ADH coverage starts 30 days after date of item purchase, and does not cover pre-existing conditions, willful damage, negligent use, software, theft or loss.
If you have a problem with a covered item while the manufacturer's warranty is still in effect, we will refer you to them so they can resolve the problem with your item. If you need assistance, we will provide any contact information we have for the manufacturer, as well as advice on how to file a claim with them. Using your manufacturer's warranty first allows you to save the value of your SquareTrade warranty for a future failure.
Moreover, you would be able to purchase this warranty and view any additional coverage details using the following link:
http://www.squaretrade.com/pages/cellphone-landing3
Hope that answers your question! If not, go here to view the contract summary. You can also reply to this email or call 1-877-WARRANTY (1-877-927-7268) US & Canada only, 24/7.

i've heard good things about square trade.
If the NEWYEAR code expires, try TWTYOFF. That was a code they gave me after checkout.

Where do you see that Asurion does not cover accidental damage? They clearly state coverage for loss, theft, and damage (even water damage). Where does that exclude accidental damage?
Is SquareTrade's coverage tied to a specific phone? One of the reasons I liked Asurion is that it covers whatever phone I'm using at the moment. So for now it would cover my N1, but when I upgrade in 6-9 months (I wish)...it'll automatically cover the new phone.
Just checking out the coverage at SQ.. note the bold...
"Assumes coverage is purchased for 24 consecutive months. Please note that SquareTrade does not cover loss. Terms and conditions of other providers’ warranty/insurance plans may vary, please refer to each providers terms for details on their coverage. Prices are accurate as of 12/1/2009. Copyright SquareTrade 2010. All brands or products are trademarks or registered trademarks of their respective holders."
and...
"No Coverage from Loss: There is no coverage against lost or stolen phones. You can always cancel your warranty and receive a refund if that happens."
No offense, and I'm not trying to start anything, but I'm glad I went with Asurion..
Yeah that's definitely a requirement for me. Half the reason I'm getting insurance for my N1 is for theft/loss.
I've never lost a phone, so I can take my chances there.
My problem with Asurion is that the way I read their contract, they can replace your phone with anything they want to... Any phone of any value. Perhaps they don't do that, but it's what I saw in the contract.
Basically all insurance plans are heavily biased toward the insurer. At the end of the day you decide what perils you want insured and whether it's worthwhile. There are reasons for going either way.

Sprint Insurance

Can someone explain the difference between Sprint's ERP, ESRP, and TEP?
I called and asked Sprint, but I think we both got confused. From what I gather:
ERP (Equipment Replacement Program) - $4.00/mnth covers pretty much everything with a 100.00 deductible on smartphones.
ESRP (Equipment Service Replacement Program) - $4.00/mnth covers basically what ERP does?
TEP (Total Equipment Protection) - $7.00/mnth covers ERP and ESRP
What do you recommend? I'm leaning towards ERP (4.00), we currently don't have insurance on our iphones (att doesn't provide it), but would like it. Just don't want to spend 7.00 each line for no good reason.
Also there is Squaretrade for $144.00 for 2 years or $6.00mnth (probably less with coupons).

TEP covers pretty much everything. Notably, loss, theft and H20 damage. The other two plans are not as inclusive.
Equipment Replacement Program:
Insurance coverage for lost, stolen or physically damaged devices.
$50 non-refundable deductible applies per approved replacement
For full terms and conditions, see the Coverage Certificate
Equipment Service and Repair Program:
Provides coverage for mechanical or electrical failure, routine maintenance or failure from normal wear and tear.
No additional out-of-pocket charges to repair or replace your malfunctioning device
Over 1,800 Sprint Phone Repair Centers available to repair or replace your device. Visit www.sprint.com/storelocator for the nearest location.
For full terms and conditions, see the Service Contract
TEP is both of those put together, for $1 less a month than paying for both separately. (If you want to go read the full T+C, google "sprint insurance" and it will be first or second listed )

I finally understand. Thanks, now it's time to decide what level of risk I want to take. ERP has a deductible, and ESRP does not basically. I think since we don't have insurance on our iphones and all has been well for almost 2 years, I think the ERP will be just fine.
They all have deductibles right? I am thinking of the Best Buy plan at 10$ a month since it has hardcore coverage and no deductibles.

If you have sprint's ESRP then no (I think), but if you have ERP then yes, 50-100.00. If you have TEP, then yes if you damaged your phone/lost it... but no if it just stopped working.
Well that's what I think this all means. Sprint really needs to simply its insurance plans. Maybe just offer 1, not 3 plans.
if you bring a phone in and you have TEP or ESRP, and it is not lost or stolen or you ran it over with your car (i.e. normal wear and tear), then you don't pay a deductible. even if you have TEP, the deductible only applies if it falls into the category covered by ERP.
I think that Sprint insurance is b.s ..I have tep pay $7 and just bought my hero on march beatbuy offered the $6 a month if they can't fix it ,they give u a new device.my hero went bad last Wednesday thursday I took it to sprint repair center they couldn't fix it.so I get a refurbished right away when they handed to me I noticed power button don't work, they ordered another refurbished for sat,so another 8 miles of driving to pick it up and its another refurbished that is all scuffed up audio jack is messed up .so if I just bought my hero 2 months ago why did I kept ok getting refurbished devices they said its policy.well after calling like 20 times customer service speaking with reps, managers, supervisors I got a brand new hero, when I could of just bought the best buy insurance..with evo am getting the best buy insurance

Thank you for posting this experience. This is what I hate about the warranty on my Amazon Kindle. I had a Kindle that died in 11th month. They sent me a refurb that looked good, but died in the 100th day . I have another refurb that I hope doesn't die right after the warranty. The worst for Kindle is that the refurbs have 3 month warranties instead of 12 months. I guess I will pay the extra 3$ for the BB insurance then.
Isurance with upgrade
I know when you sign a 2 year contract you have to say if your want an insurance plan or not. Well I have one on my Hero and want to buy an EVO full out. Will I still have insurance on my EVO?
yes, once you have insurance on your account, any phone you add to the account then gets covered. even if you bought a use POS phone off ebay and added it to your account, it would be covered. there is a 2wk period after adding a phone where it can't be used.
so with TEP is there a deductible? I am confused... sorry..
I want to ask a question about the insurance company that works with sprint. Anybody that knows them well plz PM me. Its not a question I want to ask out in public...

If you have TEP, you only pay a deductable while filing a claim under the ERP portion. The ESRP portion has no deductable. So basicaly you will pay 50-100.00 if you break you phone, get water damage, lost or it was stolen.(ERP coverage) If it stops working throught no fault of your own, then there is no deductable. (ESRP) Buy both ERP & ESRP = TEP
I know, I know, their insurance options are confusing. If we decide to get the Evo, we will get the ERP insurance for $4.00mnth
So why not just go with ERP and no matter what happens, "I lost my phone"
seems pretty easy.. I was thinking of TEP but honestly, Ill pay the 50.00 for deductible..
Something seems off.. why would anyone want anything higher than ERP?

I agree. But, with ESRP or TEP, you would pay 0 if your phone died from no fault of your own. But if you only had ERP and your phone died because of no fault of your own, you could say lost it, but you'd have to pay 50-100.00 dollars. So like all insurance, it comes down to the amount of risk your willing to assume. For example, I have 500.00 deductables on our cars, but someone else might think 250.00 is better. When I was 20, I had 1000.00 deductables.
If we switch to sprint, we'll get ERP. In the last 3 years with our iPhones, we have never needed insurance. So paying $7.00 dollars a month for TEP seems like too much, ERP for 4.00 is fine. I'm willing to pay 50-100.00 IF I ever need it.
is good if u dont mind going thru the hassle of them not having ur replacement at the repair center,or if u dont mind making a couple of trips if the refurbished phone u get is not a 100% hardware condition,,i made like 4 trips to the repair center and i just bought my hero on march my phone went bad and i got a replacement(refurbished) that power button didnt work and than another one 3 days later that was all scuffed up with paint chipping and 2345 calls mnftcre on 10\12\10 and paying $7 after 4 years .when best buy offered me a $6 equipment protection and if they cant fix it u get a brand new device...so i think is bs.,when i get my evo i will get the bestbuy insurance ...

squaretrade 2 yr warranty $59

First time post. I bought this warranty today with coupon code "JULY04". I paid $69. Coupon code is supposed to expire tonight. I thought I would pass this along as it seems to be a good alternative to BB warranty. Coverage details below. Ignore the reference to Ipad2 in the link.
dealnews.com/Square-Trade-2-Year-iPad-2-Warranty-for-70-more/475332.html
What is covered:
Mechanical and electrical failures that occur during normal use of your item. Your item is covered for up to the full purchase price of your item (tax and shipping are excluded).
Some examples of covered issues include computer hard drive failures, iPod batteries that stop charging, cell phone keypads that get stuck, and digital camera sensor failures.
Notes about ADH coverage:
If Accidental Damage from Handling (ADH) Protection was purchased, the Service Agreement expands to include damage from liquid spills, item drops, or any other accidental damage.
ADH coverage begins 30 days after purchase, and does not cover willful damage, negligent use, theft or loss. ADH coverage begins 30 days after purchase, and does not cover willful damage, negligent use, theft or loss. A $50 deductible applies on ADH-related claims for Cell Phones only. SquareTrade has waived the deductible for all other ADH claims. ADH is not available on all items.
I purchased a warranty through them last week for my Tab. I also have insurance with them for my cell phone.
Bought my 2 year warranty for my new SGT 10.1 through them, seems like a great warranty!
This is great deal
Discover Card people:
shopdiscover opens up another discounted warranty - this is normal for shopdiscover
599.99 coverage + ADH = $109 for 3 years
69.99 for 2 years ($34.995 / year
109.99 for 3 years. ($36.663/ year)
another option for those that want a longer warranty

I wouldn't bother, most of the time they say its your fault and the insurance doesn't cover it.
Then if you're lucky enough to get it under insurance, you will have to pay excess. Which is usually a percentage of the device.
+ all your monthly payments for your insurance.
Example:
£8.99 a month for insurance.
15% excess fee (which is £30)
So if you had insurance for 12 months, then broke the device. Thats over £100 for your insurance, then your £30 excess so thats £130, thats hoping they pay out, so for an extra £70, you could get a new device anyway, and by the time it breaks you'll probably be ready for a new device.
My opinion, don't bother.

I looked into squaretrade and they seemd legit with a decent price but only US and UK

Has anyone used their CC purchase protection instead of getting insurance

Someone pointed out about how they opted out of getting "Nexus Protect" to use the money to upgrade to the 128gb version because their signature card has purchase protection which alot of credit cards nowdays have. It got me thinking so i looked at my Chase Sapphire Preffered benefits which is a visa signature card.
Here are the benefits when it comes to purchase protection:
PURCHASE PROTECTION
Covers your new purchases for 120 days against damage or theft up to $500 per claim and $50,000 per account.
EXTENDED WARRANTY PROTECTION
Extends the time period of the U.S. manufacturer's warranty by an additional year, on eligible warranties of three years or less.
PRICE PROTECTION
If a card purchase you made in the U.S. is advertised for less in print or online within 90 days, you can be reimbursed the difference up to $500 per item, $2,500 per year.
RETURN PROTECTION
You can be reimbursed for eligible items that the store won't take back within 90 days of purchase, up to $500 per item, $1,000 per year.
Click to collapse
So for 4 months after the card gets officially charged, I get protection from any user damage or theft without having to pay a deductible. I also get another year of manufactor warranty which Google has good warranty services with no deductible. Before one says that the process of claiming can be lengthy compared to that "Nexus Protect" offers you to replace the phone as soon as the next business day, i called chase sapphire card directly and they told me what documentation would be needed (not much depending on the situation), and that if the phone is unusable or badly damaged that I can just use the card to pay for another one and they will reimburse me what i paid for (up to $500). With that said there would be no deductible on my end, maybe the extra $50 if i wanted to get the same 64gb version i ordered assuming prices are still the same when I file a claim. And honestly... me being a nexus guy... ill end up upgrading again to next years nexus phablet.
What is everyones experience with credit card purchase protection claims?
