I wouldn't bother, most of the time they say its your fault and the insurance doesn't cover it.
Then if you're lucky enough to get it under insurance, you will have to pay excess. Which is usually a percentage of the device.
+ all your monthly payments for your insurance.
Example:
£8.99 a month for insurance.
15% excess fee (which is £30)
So if you had insurance for 12 months, then broke the device. Thats over £100 for your insurance, then your £30 excess so thats £130, thats hoping they pay out, so for an extra £70, you could get a new device anyway, and by the time it breaks you'll probably be ready for a new device.
My opinion, don't bother.

Sprint Insurance

Can someone explain the difference between Sprint's ERP, ESRP, and TEP?
I called and asked Sprint, but I think we both got confused. From what I gather:
ERP (Equipment Replacement Program) - $4.00/mnth covers pretty much everything with a 100.00 deductible on smartphones.
ESRP (Equipment Service Replacement Program) - $4.00/mnth covers basically what ERP does?
TEP (Total Equipment Protection) - $7.00/mnth covers ERP and ESRP
What do you recommend? I'm leaning towards ERP (4.00), we currently don't have insurance on our iphones (att doesn't provide it), but would like it. Just don't want to spend 7.00 each line for no good reason.
Also there is Squaretrade for $144.00 for 2 years or $6.00mnth (probably less with coupons).

I pay $7 a month for TEP and I love it, peace of mind, especially with a pricey device like the evo

I finally understand. Thanks, now it's time to decide what level of risk I want to take. ERP has a deductible, and ESRP does not basically. I think since we don't have insurance on our iphones and all has been well for almost 2 years, I think the ERP will be just fine.
They all have deductibles right? I am thinking of the Best Buy plan at 10$ a month since it has hardcore coverage and no deductibles.

If you have sprint's ESRP then no (I think), but if you have ERP then yes, 50-100.00. If you have TEP, then yes if you damaged your phone/lost it... but no if it just stopped working.
Well that's what I think this all means. Sprint really needs to simply its insurance plans. Maybe just offer 1, not 3 plans.
if you bring a phone in and you have TEP or ESRP, and it is not lost or stolen or you ran it over with your car (i.e. normal wear and tear), then you don't pay a deductible. even if you have TEP, the deductible only applies if it falls into the category covered by ERP.
I think that Sprint insurance is b.s ..I have tep pay $7 and just bought my hero on march beatbuy offered the $6 a month if they can't fix it ,they give u a new device.my hero went bad last Wednesday thursday I took it to sprint repair center they couldn't fix it.so I get a refurbished right away when they handed to me I noticed power button don't work,they ordered another refurbished for sat,so another 8 miles of driving to pick it up and its another refurbished that is all scuffed up audio jack is messed up .so if I just bought my hero 2 months ago why did I kept ok getting refurbished devices they said its policy.well after calling like 20 times customer service speaking with reps,managers,supervisors I got a brand new hero, when I could of just bought the best buy insurance..with evo am getting the best buy insurance

Thank you for posting this experience. This is what I hate about the warranty on my Amazon Kindle. I had a Kindle that died in 11th month. They sent me a refurb that looked good, but died in the 100th day . I have another refurb that I hope doesn't die right after the warranty. The worst for Kindle is that the refurbs have 3 month warranties instead of 12 months. I guess I will pay the extra 3$ for the BB insurance then.

yes, once you have insurance on your account, any phone you add to the account then gets covered. even if you bought a use POS phone off ebay and added it to your account, it would be covered. there is a 2wk period after adding a phone where it can't be used.
so with TEP is there a deductible? I am confused... sorry..

If you have TEP, you only pay a deductable while filing a claim under the ERP portion. The ESRP portion has no deductable. So basicaly you will pay 50-100.00 if you break you phone, get water damage, lost or it was stolen.(ERP coverage) If it stops working throught no fault of your own, then there is no deductable. (ESRP) Buy both ERP & ESRP = TEP
I know, I know, their insurance options are confusing. If we decide to get the Evo, we will get the ERP insurance for $4.00mnth
So why not just go with ERP and no matter what happens, "I lost my phone"
seems pretty easy.. I was thinking of TEP but honestly, Ill pay the 50.00 for deductible..

I agree. But, with ESRP or TEP, you would pay 0 if your phone died from no fault of your own. But if you only had ERP and your phone died because of no fault of your own, you could say lost it, but you'd have to pay 50-100.00 dollars. So like all insurance, it comes down to the amount of risk your willing to assume. For example, I have 500.00 deductables on our cars, but someone else might think 250.00 is better. When I was 20, I had 1000.00 deductables.
If we switch to sprint, we'll get ERP. In the last 3 years with our iPhones, we have never needed insurance. So paying $7.00 dollars a month for TEP seems like too much, ERP for 4.00 is fine. I'm willing to pay 50-100.00 IF I ever need it.
is good if u dont mind going thru the hassle of them not having ur replacement at the repair center,or if u dont mind making a couple of trips if the refurbished phone u get is not a 100% hardware condition,,i made like 4 trips to the repair center and i just bought my hero on march my phone went bad and i got a replacement(refurbished) that power button didnt work and than another one 3 days later that was all scuffed up with paint chipping and 2345 calls mnftcre on 10\12\10 and paying $7 after 4 years .when best buy offered me a $6 equipment protection and if they cant fix it u get a brand new device...so i think is bs.,when i get my evo i will get the bestbuy insurance ...

Dropped my phone, am I screwed?

So I dropped my phone 2 feet and it exploded and the screen is done. I'd post pictures, but it makes me sad.
I've had the phone for 40 days or so, what can I do to not have to pay $550 for a new phone? Add insurance and wait a month? If I add the insurance what would it cost me per month and for a new phone?

As far as I know, you can only add Sprint TEP during your first 30 days. Check your credit card for accidental damage protection (Amex has 1 year extended warranty and 90 days accidental damage).
Repairing the screen probably won't be $550, but will be very expensive.
I'm sorry for your loss. As far as I know you can only sign up for insurance within a certain period of time after recieving the phone. I think you are past that timeframe.
I don't think there are any replacement screens available yet for replacing the glass yourself. You could search for something like that if you are the brave type, or look for a place that will repair it for you. But again, I don't think replacement parts are available yet.
In my opinion, if you want to avoid buying an expensive new phone I would buy the cheapest CDMA phone you can get from sprint (or Ebay) and wait until parts are available for the EVO.
Without insurance you are pretty screwed. You can try adding it to your Sprint account now and see if they will let you and wait 40 days or so to file a claim.
Either that or pony up the cash for one on ebay.
Amex protection, while they are amazing, will only cover what you spent on the phone.
So if you got the phone for $199, they will reimburse you what you spent on it, not the cost of the replacement at $499.
I went through this with my wifes Pre. Dog ate it after 80 days. Amex said they would give me $199 for it (what I spent) but would need the damaged phone as proof. It would cost me $499 for a new Pre. Luckily I had insurance. I asked Amex if they would pay the $100 deductible for the insurance, but my insurance company would want the damaged phone to see if they could repair it.
They immediately credited my account $100 and was happy about it. They did not need the phone back.
I buy everything on Amex. Everything.
But in your case you have two options. Buy a new phone, or try to get away with insurance fraud.
I thought I read a post somewhere on here where someone found the front glass for sale for like $130.
So Sprint added the insurance to my plan and told me it was active as of today. So I'm covered apparently, anyone know what it will cost me to use that insurance?

Luckily Sprint allowed you to add the insurance past your 30 day mark. I understand that insurance can be added "anytime", but I guess they fed me a line of B.S. when they warned me that after my 30-trial period, I couldn't add it.
Either way...$100 is a heck of a lot better then having to dish out the full price of the phone.
If you ever need insurance activate an old phone online then activate the one you need insurance on. It will let you add it then. It needs to be able to power on and join the network though.
My Sprint insurance runs 15 a month per phone.

Why? I have Total Equipment Protection (the best plan) and it is $7 per phone per month.
if sprint ever tells you that you can't add insurance tell them it's in the contract which it is, as long and they didn't kick you off because of too many claims ( i think 3 or more a year) they have to let you add it
If you would have gone to a service and repair store like mine, you would have been charged a $119 fee and then we could either replace the damaged parts if we have them, or order you a replacement. Then you could also add insurnace after that as well.
Best thing is that the Evo is not hard at all for us to work on. The only hard part would be getting a screen. I can have one taken apart and swap a screen in probably 15 to 20 minutes.

I personally think insurance is always needed if you can afford it.
My friend has the Evo, and purchased the Radioshack insurance for $100 a year, and also has the Sprint insurance which is $7.99 a month (correct me if I'm wrong).
She dropped her Evo, and shattered the screen, but since the Radioshack insurance covers ALL damage, even screen damage, she was able to exchange it for a new Evo at Radioshack on the spot.
Sprint insurance doesn't cover water/screen damage, and you will have to pay a deductible to get them to replace your phone. You will also get a refurbished phone if it can't be repaired.

Sprint insurance covers anything and everything (if it's the full TEP which is $7 a month) and there is a deductible of $100 or $50 dependent on your phone (obviously newer phones are $100)

True,but still is pointless to make someone pay a deductible when they pay insurance. I miss nextel, they didnt charge a deductible at all if you needed a replacement phone.

I'm most likely going to go with Radioshack insurance, and forgo the Sprint monthly insurance.

Exactly, it's either a deductible or higher premiums... insurance companies need to make money to stay in business. Deductibles deter fraud and keep premiums lower.
I really don't see the point of insurance on a phone or other products for that matter, you need it on your house or car and for your health, for other things, its a losing proposition. insurance companies aren't in business to lose money.

Insurance on a phone is good for 1 year, after 1 year remove it as buying a new phone comes out cheaper

Yes but warranty doesn't cover any type of physical/water damage, that's where insurance comes in handy

Not from physical damage and being lost or stolen.
Also I get an upgrade every year so $7 is great for me especially since it gets replaced in store most of the time.

Insurance is meant to be a losing proposition. It's really the whole point. You arn't paying for it in the hopes of getting your money back in some way. You are paying for it so that if by some chance you need it you have it. You may drop your phone within 3 months. You may not. If you don't then insurance is a bit of a waste. If you do then insurance was a great idea.
The problem with insurance is people seem to think they are making an investment that they hope to get back some day. In most cases that is called 'fraud'. You are paying for peace-of-mind in case something bad does happen.
Insurance companies make their money on the bet that most of their customers won't actually ever use the service.

Which is why they all have deductibles, because that is a losing bet and they need the deductible money to make up for all the money they throw out on customers that actually use the service..

It isn't really a losing bet. It works off of averages. If 25% of the customers make claims, the insurance company makes it's profit off the other 75%.
There are plenty of reasons for deductibles.
1. Fairness. Those using the service pay more for it. If I end up not needing the service then the company doesn't need to get as much money out of me. My reward for this is that I pay a less then someone who actually made a claim (because I didn't have to pay a deductible).
2. Marketing. $7/mo looks better then $10-$15/mo. It's sorta like a hidden cost that only applies if needed. This way they can advertise the lower price and balance risk (which is really the key word for the insurance industry). Sort of like what the airline companies are doing by charging fees for everything they can think of rather then raising ticket prices.
3. Deterrent. It deters people from simply making a claim because they think they should get back that investment in insurance they have made all year. This prevents insurance rates from hitting $20-$30/mo or even more (they'd have to make the entire cost of the phone + profit in 1 year). Doesn't prevent it entirely, but they are working on large numbers and even a small deterrent means more profit.

I didnt state any those companies cell phone insurance should not be compared to those, they are not the same, you stated those, i had sprintnextel when they merged and lost and repair insurance was one fee, with no deductibles, and you could do up to 3 claims a year, still no deductible charged.
I dunno if insurace is really worth it on this phone, if the last sentence on page two of this pdf is true, then its cheaper just to pay the WIE fee of 120 bucks in the case that you do drop your phone and break the screen or something like that rather then pay the 100 deductible+7 dollars a month. And use the phones 1 year warranty for anything else that might be defective with it later on down the line.

So I have 30 days from activation to add the AT&T Mobile Insurance to my plan. It costs $6.99. For those of you that have it (and used it), is it even worth it? I mean I know that if the phone breaks, I either have to pay out of pocket to get it repaired or buy a new one.
The standard warranty is 1-year, meaning if it malfunctions or anything breaks, I'm covered. But beyond that, the deductible is $199. Problem is that I have to pay $6.99 a month starting now, which in a year would cost me $84 until my default warranty is over.
I had the warranty at Sprint and I was with them for 13 years. I never once had to use it and it almost seems like flushing your money down the toilet.

Considering the fact that if you actually spent the cash to get yourself an insurance replacement, to my understanding, insurance replacements are refurbished devices anyways, so the real question is, are you clumsy or prone to accidents? Because thats pretty much the only difference between the free warranty, or the 6.99/mo + 199$ is that if you run it over with your car or drop it in the toilet(physical damage of any sort), you're still covered.
Personally, I think its a waste of money, but then again if you can actually afford AT&T and the products, whats another 7$?

Considering the fact that if you actually spent the cash to get yourself an insurance replacement, to my understanding, insurance replacements are refurbished devices anyways, so the real question is, are you clumsy or prone to accidents? Because thats pretty much the only difference between the free warranty, or the 6.99/mo + 199$ is that if you run it over with your car or drop it in the toilet(physical damage of any sort), you're still covered.
Personally, I think its a waste of money, but then again if you can actually afford AT&T and the products, whats another 7$?

I have it simply for theft coverage. I usually cancel after the first year. I'm a high school teacher and theft is a strong possibility.

I've heard many people say that you can use your home owners insurance to cover your mobile electronics for much cheaper than what ATT or squaretrade charges. I think it covers theft too. Something to look into
I work for att so ask away.
The insurance actually sends you a new replacement if they have it on hand which 99/100 times they do.
In my opinion its worth it. Just don't fall for the stupid 9.99 protection pack. Some people might tell you its all they have, but its a lie. They do offer the 6.99 insurance still.

So Passport 2.0 has a deductable on repairs?

Read that link from the ZTE Website. I maybe miss understanding it but I thought cracked screens were covered....?
There's always a deductable. They can't have people just running around smashing their screens. There's labor involved fixing them.

They should make it more known though. HTC's Uh Oh! Protection replaces your phone if you crack the screen one time. I understand your point but most people do not know this nor do they let you know it easily.
I believe it's $75 for the deductible. It ain't cheap, but it's cheaper than a separate "oops" warranty. I suppose you could run it over with your car (accidentally, of course) in month 23 and get a "new" phone out of it. Not too bad for a deductible and no monthly or initial payment(s).

Not a new phone, refurbished one.
And I think they do it only twice.
I called them before I ordered mine and here is what I was told by a very friendly young man. It's $79 deductible and they pay for the shipping there and back! Anything but loosing the phone they will fix or replace it. Also even if fixed or refurbished it is the original manufacturer that does it so I am ok with it.
I am paying something like $12.99 for Tmobile Assurance protection. Last week I dropped my unbreakable POS LG V10 which I hated anyways and the thig never turned on again. Small ding on the side and tiny crack yet it was dead. So I owe $400 still and had to pay Assurance $175 deductible for which I received a beat up LG V10 that looks abused as hell.
So I decided no more! I am selling it and getting the ZTE then I will cancel my Tmobile insurance and in 2 years the ZTE will cost me about $100.
I just have to not lose it lol.
