I have done the tweaks mentioned in the post above but i dont know if its a hardware fault or not but the HD camera seems to be terrible, it cannot take pictures of objects that move slightly and you must be perfectly still for it to work. The video is the same and cannot track objects that move even the ever so slightest.
Is the HD camera just poor compared to all the other cameras on the market? I have tried different resolutions, memory cards etc and all are terrible at tracking. Brightness and all other auto features are set on low
I've got no expert help but I agree how terrible it is. If the camera was as good as any on the Sony Ericcson phones (even their 3.2megapixel range) this would be my perfect phone.
is it suppose to be laggy as i was wondering if my phone was faulty or if that is the way it is. I couldnt work out how my 7+ year old nokia managed to take pictures so fast without any lag etc.
I wonder if this is the same on the HD2

Software: Some of the very important features found in Gingerbread has not been incorporated in Jelly Bean. For example, I cannot transfer apps from internal memory to extended SD card or change the default installation path. I have a Class-10 SD Card which i planned to store Games, Music and other space consuming apps but no 'Move to SD Card' option under apps detail has been provided like in Gingerbread 2.0+. This is a huge disappointment for high end devices like the Note-II with 64GB expandable slot.
Hardware: I find that the Note-II 8MP camera is relatively inferior compared to the Xperia Arc when it comes to shooting pictures Indoor or under low light condition. It captures fabulous pictures :good: in bright light but the most annoying is the GRAINS :crying: that appears while taking pictures indoor. I don't know, may be it is because of difference in build in camera sensors.
I just hope an Update will come up to solve the above issues.
Nope cos jelly bean doesnt support it
Re the camera its fantastic ate you sure yours isn't faulty ... pics are as good as any phone out there

I agree with mancuk29 , but i think there is a mod that alows you o move to external/SD.
Ref. Camera i am very satisfied and working perfectly !
Also the new video options like Slow motion and fast forward are amazing !

I agree my SGN2 takes superb pics outdoor in the daylight. However, the images appear grainy in low light when used without flash. My SGN2 is just a month old i dont think there's any issue with the camera.
The camera produces porminitly grainy pictures in low light, it annoys me but the low light option in the camera settings reduce it by a good ammount but they'd still be noticable.
Outdoor quality is OUTSTANDING!
Reports from another thread here leads me to believe the camera issue is a software issue, seeing how other camera apps improve on it a lot.
Stock camera uses way too high default iso, try to lower it for better indoor pics.

I'm 99% sure the high noise level is because of the zero shutter lag. With cameras it's always a tradeoff, you can't get optimal exposure, low noise and fast shots at once (unless it's a really bright scene). You can pick any 2, but you can't have all 3.
My solution is to use the low light mode when I want a really nice pic, regardless of the light conditions. Especially in macros it's a day and night difference, and I'm not talking about the amount of light in the pic. All the noise in the blurry background disappears completely. They should really have advertised the low-light mode as low-noise. If you can keep the phone steady, macros, landscapes and other still scenes look like they came out of a nice compact camera. Initially I was a bit disappointed in the camera too, but now that I learned my way around the options I think it's quite amazing what they got out of such a tiny sensor.

u r clueless
Im still using the Xperia Arc and I find the camera is fabulous. It takes great quality pics both Outdoor and Indoor even in low light without any speck of grain or noise. I think samsung is also using Sony camera in Note2. If this is true, then the cause of high noise level/grains is not hardware related definitely should be a software bug. I hope an Update will solve this problem
Another bug I found is that the camera settings auto reset to default every time you close the camera. Changes in the settings do not get saved. Very sad indeed.
Hey don't forget to wipe the camera lens glass before taking pics. . it gets Dirty easily. ... silly tip but very useful... try taking a pic then clean the lens glass and then take a pic again. . See the difference

Hi guys,
I have just got an GT-i9506 and I'm loving the size, speed and how smooth everything feels, compared to the S3 I had previously.
BUT I think I am having an issue with the camera.
I can take great photos, but the focus when close up or macro is horrible.
On my S3 if I got a little too close, I would hold the phone further back, focus on my subject, move a bit closer and focus again and so on until I was as close as I wanted to be and I was able to take the shot.
I can't seem to get this technique to work on this phone.
I find, even taking shots from a far (which the camera focuses fine with), when I zoom in after the photo is taken, the quality is horrible.
For once, heavily sharpening my images in post-production in apps like VSCO is actually helping!
Is anyone else seeing a drop in camera quality compared to older devices like the S3?
Any recommended settings in the stock camera, flashable fixes or apps people would recommend over the stock camera for this device?
Thanks
Hello,
since there are problems with the camera software, I am opening this thread to discuss your experiences and software update news.
I got my S20U Exynos variant today and straight out of the box there was an OTA (430MB) available which stated that the camera experience has been improved. It got better because I have tested it before the update but the autofocus is still "jumpy" and has problems with objects that are near to the phone. Even if i turn on the setting to adapt autofocus to the selected object in the viewer, it still jumps
EDIT: I did some tests today with my own face using the main sensor and the oversharpening / skin smoothing is gone. I tested it with HDR turned off and on.
EDIT 23.03.2020:
Look at this video guys. Focus hunting is gone. Sorry, I have orange blinds and the sun was shining directly on those.

Did the update bring any changes to the over sharpening / skin smoothing with the man lens?

I have just tested it with my own face at work in bureau using the main sensor and the oversharpening / skin smoothing is gone. I tested it with HDR turned off and on.
Plz keep us updated on the auto focus issue

I'm thinking the update you got, is the same as all of us. What's the sw#.
Here are the details for the one with camera improvements

I just did a little research and it should be the ATC2, right? The one that we all have also fixed the face photos with main camera.

Yes, that one. Hopefully it comes before my return period. If not, I'm sending it back.
ATC2 is already out in South Korea. Should be in the US in a few days or about a week the most

Lets hope so!!
As has been stated, ATBM is the one that everyone already has and it definitely did nothing for the camera.
Specific to the S20 Ultra, what about subjects' edge blurriness issue due to narrow Plane of Focus? - it can only minimally get resolved or may not at all..?
For reference, attaching pics taken from YT:
MKBHD(at 9:31) and Danny Winget(at 1:41). Marques explained it pretty well on why it might not!
Edit: S20 Ultra users with the OTA updates( "ATBR" & "ATC2") installed can check and report..
so in Germany i got a Day1 update but it seems to be only the March security patch. the update was a Little less than 500mb.
the autofocus is kinda slow in compare to the s10+
and the autofocus has some Trouble tu Focus with zoom 5+ and distance lower than 5 meters
update:
in the patchnotes
- better cam perf.
- enhanced security 4 the device
Version G99BXXU1ATBM
431.19 MB
so hopefully there will be another update to improve the cam

I think that this update fixed the problems with the main camera when capturing photos with a recognizable face. I have tested it yesterday and it does not change the colour of my face or make it smoother.

I have already read some feedback from gsmarena who stated: According to TizenHelp, users are reporting improved function of both autofocus and manual focusing on the Galaxy S20 Ultra.
- It is nice to hear that but we need to wait for some comparisons or a wider update push. I have also watched how Marques explained the narrow point of focus on the Ultra and he might be right but that hardware masterpiece has other sensors to help the main one with information so maybe it can be fixed with software update. I have already asked German Samsung support about when the update is going to roll out because the camera is almost useless and that I am very disappointed about it. Of course I also wrote that if it does not happen before the return window closes, they will get that hardware back, simple.
EDIT: They just answered that they do not know when the update is going to roll out. They also did not respond to me being disappointed so I asked for Tier 2 Support or Customer Relations response.
EDIT2: This was already a Tier 2 answer and they do not know on their own when it is going to arrive because it is being rolled out without properly informing all Samsung Sites.

Autofocus/manual focusing improved, but I think let's not mix it up with the Plane of Focus limitation i.e. after the object is in focus, clicked, the pic is sharp on few places but blurry elsewhere on the same object.
As for Samsung support(customer support?) about Samsung, I will rather ask my Pets about it..

I know that support from such big companies is mostly not helpful but if they throw a voucher for something, then there is at least something useful you get if they cannot help. As I have written before, the other lenses could help with the Plane of Focus. Maybe Samsung will figure it out. Samsung integrated Google Duo so let Google guys improve the camera software :silly:
They're not going to be able to fix the narrow focus depth of close up images. Have you ever noticed that "fast" zoom lenses with constant aperture for cameras are invariably heavy and expensive? That's because they cram in several aspherical lens in there to be able to maintain the wide aperture. But on a camera lens, you can adjust the aperture if you want to increase the focus plane. The Ultra has a variable zoom with fixed aperture, so it's a trade off. They may be able to improve the focus hunting issues but I doubt it will ever match the speed and precision of the dpaf of their cheaper siblings.
For this reason I changed my pre-order at the last minute to the s20 plus. My subjects are typically closer range shots that are moving (my kids), so auto focus performance is important.

That's an artifact of the sensor size, the only way to fix it would be artifical sharpening or taking multiple photos and combining them.

That!
It's a feature, not a bug.
The culprit is fixed aperture.
I read that the Open Beta updated the OOS Camera app
Some of you may know that the Camera app has an issue with an excessively strong noise filter that gives pictures a watercolor effect which destroys detail. Using GCam fixes that if you're rooted but I'd like to go back to stock for Android 10
So my question is have you noticed if the watercolor effect has been fixed? If possible, post sample photos! (comparing with GCam as well if you can!)
The effect is specially noticable in things with many tiny details like grass

I'm not sure if my standards are lower than yours, but here are some quick shots I took since the update to OB2.
The images are a little compressed so I can't tell with some of the finer details. However, the effect is so bad that it would be immediately noticeable and I don't see it in any of the pictures, so it must have been fixed.
Thank you very much!

No problem. It looks pretty good to me, and I had a pixel XL in between my first OnePlus 5 that got drowned and the one I have now. The pixel was better but not by a huge amount imo.
