[Q] No LTE in i9500 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi mates!
Don't fire me if this is a repetitive question. I searched along the forum around 1 hour. But I couldn't find what I was seeking for.
My problem is
Since Samsung was boasting that S4 is LTE capable, I bought an i9500. But, in the network mode it doesn't show LTE mode.
Why is that?
I have a LTE connection at home. If I connect my phone through WiFi will I get LTE network?
Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately you have bought the wrong model, as their is NO LTE for I9500 (Octa).
You need either the Korean version (Octa + LTE) or I9505 (SnapDragon)

Thank you very much for your response, sir.
In GSMARENA they have mentioned in this way. "4G Network LTE (market dependent)"
If you don't mind can you please explain me what does "market dependent" mean?

Market dependent means that it is only supported if your carrier has in available in the area in which you reside.
You will not get LTE on WIFI. LTE is strictly cellular signal.

My carrier supports LTE.
Then why doesn't my i9500 connect using LTE?

I would call my carrier and ask them. How do you know that you have LTE at your home? Did you have a different phone that connected thru the LTE network?

I bought a 4G connection with the router from the ISP.
So, I hope that I have a LTE connection at home.

The GT-I9500 doesn't have a LTE radio, period. You picked the wrong phone for LTE.

[Q] I9505 no LTE?

Hello,
I bought an unlocked I9505 version of the Galaxy S4 and live in the US and my carrier is AT&T.
I know I have LTE service in my area since I came from iPhone and other phones in my household has LTE service in their phone's but mine?
My I9505 only shows and toggles between H and H+ but not the 4G and LTE subscript text next to the signal bars.
I've checked to make sure that under Mobile Networks that LTE/GSM/WCDMA is chosen and APN* settings are correct.
Anyone else having the same experience? Is there something wrong with the phone?
It has LTE, I get 4G on mine

Yes, I also called AT&T support to make sure I'm provisioned to have LTE and they said yes.
In germany we have a problem too.
interrupts the LTE network and you have no more contact?
It seems as if there were in all i9505's the problem. I turned it off, because LTE is too expensive here.

I've already did a factory reset once but nothing happened. It's still not showing LTE.

As far as I know of, the GT-I9505 does not support AT&T LTE bands. This would explain why you can't get any LTE signal with it.

Awww, that's a bummer.
I am having the exact same issue, I have an i9505 and do not get the option of LTE on the list only GSM/WCDMA, GSM Only or WCDMA Only.
I had an LTE S3 and obviously that had an option for it in the network settings.
If the 4G was not compatible in my area then i would assume it would not be able to find a signal and not just disallow the selection in the settings.
Im in Australia btw and bought it unlocked from a company that shipped from Hong Kong.

You need a LTE compatible USIM to be able to list the "4G" option otherwise it does not appear. It's kinda stupid but it's the way it works.

Ok. What would that mean? I was assured by the company I bought it from that it would work.
My csc is i9505zzhamde if that helps
I've contacted AT&T tech support and found out the reason why I can't get LTE. Different techs will give you different answers so I kept prying each
tech that I've encountered with to give me some sensible answer.
One tech said that the 9'th and 10th digit of the ATT sim should be 2 and 5. I checked my old iPhone's nano sim and it was 2 and 5. The replacement sim that I've received when I got my S4 was 2 and 9. So I went to an AT&T store to have my sim replaced, ofcourse they ignored what I told them that I'd like to have a sim with the 9th and 10th digit to be 2 and 5. ATT rep said that their new sim should work with LTE (which I thought should be) regardless of the 9th and 10th digit. Then, nothing still H+. Oh well...
So went home and tried chatting with the rep again and found out this:
LTE service is not provisioned in my plan since AT&T's system can't recognize my phone's IMEI hence they can't add it to their system.
So does that mean that GT-I9505 can have 4g LTE with AT&T's as long as they can register my IMEI on their network?
but w/e the sooner I can get over that I9505 isn't compatible with AT&T 's LTE the better.
Hm... When I was with Hybrid ROM MDN and modem MDN without ANY CSC, it shows me LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect). But now I flashed Modified MDM ROM with MDM modem with BTU CSC and the LTE disappeared..... I have only GSM/WCDMA option.... (just to remind that My GSM Operator does not provide LTE)
What do you think? maybe the LTE/GSM/WCDMA (auto connect) in the menu depends on th chosen CSC...
I think they are telling you a bunch of lies. The I9505 does not have the LTE bands for AT&T and that's really all there is to it.

is anyone using an i9505 in Canada?

Anyone using an i9505 in Canada, can you confirm whether LTE works or not? Thanks.
If LTE works, I would like to get an i9505. If not, then probably an i9500.

Yeah, it would seem like Rogers have 2600 as well but I just wanted to be 100% sure that it would work. As for my purchase choice, I would prefer to get LTE but if LTE is simply not an option then I would go for the octa-core.

3g on a LTE 4g Galaxy S4?

Hi all. In a few weeks I will be buying a sim free Galaxy S4. I am thinking about getting the LTE model, AKA the I9505. My question is, will 3g work on this model because I plan on using 3g until the price of 4g comes down.
Yes this will work, every mobile phone supports this.

Yes you will have no problems.
Odd that you get charged more for a 4g services than a 3g service. doesnt work that way here in OZ really just gotta be lucky to get 4g connections lol
Yes it will work! I have the 4G LTE version, too. And I use a 3G flatrate, because here in Germany 4G is very expensive... :crying:

[Q] Is it normal for LTE to intermittently switch between LTE and 4G?

I've frequently been noticing my GS5 to have a really strong LTE connection (~90Mbps) and minutes later without moving at all I'm suddenly on 4G (HSPA+?). Is anyone else experiencing this or should I get my unit exchanged?

One theory I have about it is that my SIM card has been put in and out of many phones and perhaps the contacts are a little weak at this point. Do you know if that would affect my signal?

No, it has nothing to do with signal. The phone can get signal even without a sim card. All the sim card does is register you on the network. If the sim card was bad, it would most likely kick you off the network completely.
One last thing: Have you edited the APN settings at all? Are you sure they are the default supplied by your carrier?

Which carrier is doing that? how confusing.
Wiki:
HSPA+, or Evolved High-Speed Packet Access, is a technical standard for wireless, broadband telecommunication. HSPA+ enhances the widely used WCDMA (UMTS) based 3G networks with higher speeds for the end user that are comparable to the newer LTE networks. HSPA+ was first defined in the technical standard 3GPP release 7 and expanded further in later releases.
In the United States, it is commonly available under AT&T Mobility and T-Mobile US.

And just to clear things up for me, you will see 4g and lte icons in the taskbar and switch between the two respectively? Oh and I see no mention of 4G relating to HSPA+ but lte yes, so I still am unclear what the OP has asked.
Edit: nevermind it doesnt matter, very confusion lol. Sorry toews didnt mean to hijack your thread dude.
You can google your apn settings from google.
Example.
Att apn settings.
And you can go into settings more networks and create a new apn. Just make sure you enter it exaxctly as it reads.
Xda folks have alot if threads on different apns for achieving higher speeds. You create the new apn hit menu and then save toggle the new apn and reboot.. alot of times if your seeing fluctuation it can be due to a node on one if the local towers in your area.
But as stated it wouldnt hurt to upgrade your modem. Of course this does involve root and custom recovery such a twrp.. hope this helps.?
