[Q] Vibration thunk - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

I have keyboard vibration turned on (SwiftKey) so I can feel when I'm hitting a key, and it seems like every 5th or 6th press, the vibration is stronger than the other ones, so it feels like the phone *thunk*'s in my hand, for lack of better description, and the vibration seems to reverb around the metal lining and plastic rear of the device.
Has anyone else come across this phenom with their phone?

I noticed that too. Solved it by setting vibration time to 8ms instead of below.

Changing vibration frequency

Hey guys, here's the deal. I can't feel my phone vibrating. My previous phone (good ol' Moto Rizr) vibrated like a freakin monster. The vibration alone when it was on the table beside my bed was enough to wake me up. The Hero...not so much. I'd describe this phone's vibration as a buzz, and the Rizr was more of a "rumble". What I'm wondering is, is there an app that allows you to change the frequency the phone vibrates at when receiving calls, alarms, etc.? I think lowering the frequency would solve the problem, but is it even possible to change?

The only thing you can change is the pattern of the vibration. This is the one thing that really annoys me about this phone. So I just don't use the vibrate and take my chances at work.....luckily, I don't get many calls on it..............
Search for the app smart vibrator it will help a little bit

I tried smart vibrate and found it just allows you to customizing the length of the vibration, it does nothing for the strength/frequency....
After taking the phone apart a few times, I can tell you its not just the speed at which the motor turns (frequency) but also the size of the counterweight. Its just not as big as some of the older clamshell phones. For the haptic feedback and what not, it needs a small weight that a small motor that it can turn very fast for a very short period of time.
The sacrifice is the "strength" of the vibration, which is set by the weight of the actual cam on the motor. Slowing the motor down would yes, probably cause more of a rumble.
If you feel adventerous enough, you could take the phone apart, and put a very small resistor in between the motor terminals... not sure how many ohms it would take, but problaby not much.

Thanks. I used to take computers apart for a living and for hobby...but I don't think I want to try it with the phone. I guess the only other option is setting a very long vibrate and hope I feel it eventually.

[Q] Squeaky/Noisy Buttons on MT4G

I'm on my third MT4G because of squeaky/noisy buttons. The biggest reason why this happens is this:
1) the buttons are cheap plastic
2) the sides of the button rub on the phone's bezel, thus creating the squeaking sounds
3) the home/back buttons are in fact one solid piece (stupid design)
I'm thinking about putting some type of lubricant in my phone (per a suggestion over in the T-Mobile forums), as I highly doubt T-Mobile would provide a fourth phone to me. This squeaking sound really is annoying, and should not be present on such a high-end phone such as this one.
Has anyone taken their phone apart in an attempt of making the creaking sounds go away? Has anyone applied lubricant to the buttons to stop the squeaking?
lubricant?
you could try some sort of graphite lubricant... it's not really a liquid, just a powder and shouldn't propagate through the phone. i think "dri-slide" still makes it
The whole bottom of my phone squicks and creaks but I don't think I want to put any lubricant in my phone. I'll just wait a little and exchange it if anything. Doesn't bother me as much as I thought I would when I found out about it.
How bad its it? My vibrate feature is starting to maker noise

I sprayed a little bit of CRC Power Lube onto the left button on my MT4G since it was making an annoying noise when pressed. Works perfect and it's plastic safe, no stains!
Mine screams like a banshee now.
This is probably the only real design flaw with this phone.
Still better than non-responsive capacitative touch buttons, but def annoying.
I also forgot to mention how loud my home button makes this clicking sound when I press it (along with the squeaking sound). It really is f'n annoying. Could any of these lubricants help simmer that down a bit? If I had known these buttons would end up being so damn loud, I would have second-guessed buying it.

[Q] Galaxy S4 Vibration

Hi guys,
i bought my s4 the day one and it works great for now  but i have a question on the device's vibration. It looks like stronger than s3, so strong that during vibration seems that plastic parts vibrate Is it normal? It looks like an electric razor xD :good:
Also found the Vibra is stronger on the S3
Might have a look to see if the flex/motors are the same and try a swap but not yet
yeh I found when i first got it the startup vibrate (can that be turned off by the way?) was really strong and sounded/felt unpleasant.
Have turned down the haptics and vibrate in settings and now its ok. Except that startup vibrate is still intense.
there is vibration settings, you can choose rhythm (not sure if it's the correct word) and the strength of vibration. just try that

Hi
It seems to be normal! Unfortunately. Some plastic parts vibrate even if you lay the phone on the table... Just knock on the chassis with your finger an the phone vibrates....

I agree with you, on my device happens the same thing, the color of mine is White Frost.
But a friend of mine has bought the phone (color Black Myst) some days ago, his device's vibration isn't strong and knocking on the chassis with a finger doesn't make the phone vibrate.... Should us be worried for ours?
Thank you for your replies.

I know this topic is oldish but I also have one question.
Does your gs4 vibration make a kind of broken sounding noise? I don't know how to describe the noise but it's like if some part inside is loose.
When I hold the device firmly it vibrates normally. I removed the cover and pinpointed the noise source, seems to be the camera or the sim/SD slot.
It's rally bad when you start the device and it vibrates once, or when you spam press the bell or heart beat vibration preview in settings.
It's also just the first few milliseconds of the vibrate when it's really bad I think.
Do you guys have the same thing?
I got the same problem... Thought it was just me...

Is there any solution for the crackling sound coming from the phone when it vibrates??

Back plate vibrates when loud sounds come from the speaker

I just bought an S5 today and I have noticed something that kinda annoys me (I'm upgrading from an S3, and I didn't notice this on that model).
So, what happens is that if I have Touch Sounds [Play sound when making screen selection] enabled, and I have a finger on the back of the phone, somewhere between the speaker and the SAMSUNG logo, every time I make a selection on the screen, the case vibrates and I feel it slightly vibrating under my finger that holds the back of the phone (by the way, I have disabled the haptic feedback, so it's purely due to the sound from the speaker).
My question is: is this a general issue? Does it happen to you?
Sounds like improperly locked cover. Try pressing firmly around the edges of the cover and around the camera area.
It happens to me too. Nothing to worry about.

It's because waterproof and seals....
The vibration is due to the camera auto focus mechanism. It is completely normal.

I have the S5 Active and when I play music the metal back plate vibrates and (lacking a better way to describe it) makes my finger tips hurt when Im holding it.
I somewhat fixed it by puting a couple apropriately sized pieces of paper inside the back, but this is far from ideal. My idea was to ground the middle of the back plate to the phone. Anyone have any other ideas that might not create a bulge.

Loud vibrations

Hi Guys
Do any of you have problem with loud vibrations? When I'm on silent mode It's easier to hear when phone is vibrating rather than feel it. Even key feedback is very loud comparing to Z5c/Z3c.
all x compacts have this ****ty loud vibration motor. if you press rapidly buttons with vibration the motor gets louder and loder like a bee!
additionally the letter "P" on the keyboard is often not reacting when you are not pressing centered from top the letter on the keyboard. it will not react when you try to hit the letter a bit through the curved glass from the right side. is has the same behaviour on all keyboards so far. not acceptable. s7, z3c, z5c has a much better touch sensitivity. personally, these are the reasons for giving it back to store.
