Xperia X10 Camera tips for better results

Hello people
We have a wonderful 8 megapixel camera and if used properly we can get really amazing shots.
Lets discuss some tips and tricks we use to make the result even better.

Oh we have? I thought you said that android native camera app is much easier, better and faster to use? And now you make a thread for tips and tricks?
Why not give us a link of the android camera app. Its much easier dont you think?

I just flashed from 2.1 to 2.2 (wolfbreak's rom)
Any tips and tricks for that?

when taking pic which is less than 10 CM we use macro,but does anyone has a idea how to take a similar pic like a portrait where only the person is focussed rest is blurred ,something like DSLR takes!!

My tip is to use the new HD1080 mode.... Seriously my pics since the last camera update have been incredible. Better than my digital camera by far.

does that work for Xperia too,its looks like a feature in Iphone...i know that multi auto focus...but i don't know if we can focus by click on a particular spot on screen..!!

i've 3 ROM in my SD,
First : CM7RC2v012 for all days
Second : 2.1.A.0.435 Generic for photos
Last : TripNMiUI 0.2.9) for tests
i dont flash the baseband ; just "backup/restore" with xRecovery.

I've tried the HD1080 mode, and I still find it worse than vignette, nothing beats vignette in my opinion, except that its so slow.

Even with stock camera,what are the best settings to get amazing pictures...like some tweaks in normal settings...
Does anyone find difference between single autofocus and multi autofocus!!

i make my photo with this settings
- macro
- 8M
- very-high quality
other in "auto"

It's widescreen, and the pics are amazing quality.
Ever since the new camera upgrade for 2.2 it's been a new selection. I find it fantastic

Wow how did you get such vibrant colors? I am using stock 2.1 (435) rom and all my greens and yellows are washed out - i get a bluish tinted image....tinkering with white balance does no good either

Dude, all it is is wide screen. The quality is even lower than the 6mp wide mode.
Trust me, look at the compression on that mode.
Stick with 8mp mode

Well my pics look way better in 1080 mode, so much that I've been getting comments on how good they are. The focus on the 8mp has been terrible, pics look pretty bad. I compared modes and the 1080hd is much better

Ok, now your making me wanna check this again. I really didn't put alot of time in it. Im gonna compare that against vignette 16:9 mode which is outstanding.

Macro HD videos with Galaxy S2

Hi all, just made some videos with my SGS2 and edited them on Windows Movie Maker.
I'll be happy to hear about your opinion, particularly in terms of light, do you have some trick to make better videos?

yes, the second one (ants) i made have a closeup lens in front of the camera, but this way light reduce...

i think no mate, it's an extra you can download directly from the rom updater...

Ciao,I think you can try typhoon 's cyanogenmod ,in my opinion is one of the best roms.You get almost the same quality with every rom,this one has the touch to focus function.If you need to take high quality videos,instead i think you have to go for a wp7 rom,cause we can use the 720p hd recording function under this os

Try Tytung's nexus ROM. It has a camera without lags and it is has a good quality

The best ROM for us Italians is the XB CM7 DEV VER. 21.1 ZIP ALL IN ONE, the image quality depends from the hardware and not from the software.

i just had have high expectation on them,now i'm so disappointed

the size of those photos really improved,but i just can't distinguish the 2.3.4 & 4.0.3 's photos which has the better resolution

ISO switch is either not implemented in camera driver or the sensor simply doesn't support manual ISO switching.

Correct.

The camera performance is better after the ICS update, though the JPEG compression is still aggressive and that's never something good. I mean, zoom in after you have snapped one picture and the loss of details is horrible.

Ive had a few phones sony phones now and as far as i know you could neva have changed the ISO level, my xperia pro doesn't and my x10 mini pro didn't ether, i didn't even know it was possible on a phone, out of a matter of interest what phones support this?

I think with the App CameraFV-5 you will be able to change ISO-settings manual.
But i don´t regognize any diffenerent in the Pictures.

yes,they removed the micro focus selection but it will appear in auto mode when you get close to something , it does not so bother me at all

Of course Xperia S has a totally different camera hardware-wise and it is an entirely different story firmware-wise...

The Exmor R sensor is improved and newer on the Xperia S, that's why it supports the manual ISO-feature, specially camera driver softwarewise, compared to the Arc S.
It sucks though that the macro mode is removed, Arc S macro setting is one piece of fantastic eyegasm on real close-up shots!

how about video recording ?
I noticed they are so laggy, already you can find some tests on youtube made by an italian forum boy.
it's a bug i think, ram management isn't releted to video recording, and in ics the system could be slower, but the cpu is the same and the gpu also
so, why not smooth video ?

I had high hopes that ICS will improve the camera, these reports are a big dissapointment.

Then we're 2 about that. The improvement is there, but not at the level that I (and many others) hoped for..

The camera performance is not good on my Arc. I'm hoping it's because I'm using Arc S software on my Arc but the ISO seems to be locked on crazy high.
Looking back at pictures taken on 2.3 seems to be most commonly between 80 and 160. On ICS it's defaulting to the region of 320 with the lowest I've managed to get it being 160 (and that was using night scenery mode) and sometimes going up to ISO-800 taking a normal picture indoors in descent lighting! Something dodgey is going on here.
Someone needs to somehow come up with a fix to sort out it's mental auto-ISO settings.

I didn't notice this flaw until you mentioned it
Truely,when I was recording the car's movement,I could easily find it moved not so smooth just like there's a traffic jam
And I was surprised to know that the frame is only 26fps

Hope Sony rectifies these issues and fix them in upcoming ICS update for Xperia arc

Currently, the majority of the features on the Xperia Z are working in the pure Android environment. There's SD card support, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and LED light as well as the sensors are all working well. The camera is also working flawlessly, but its code is tested internally at the moment as it requires proprietary binaries that the company can't publish right now.

I think you'll find the camera isn't working - it's only working internally at Sony as it's using their own proprietary binaries. They're not being released at this stage.
Quite why this is, I don't know, as I think Sony have shared their binaries in the past with the FXP and CM teams.

Wrong forum, only post in development forums if you have an actual development, please ask to move this to general or delete it since there already was a post about this in general.

Perfect? Really? How is the camera? Any improvement? Compared to the Galaxy series, sony's camera is far from perfect when you zoom in. Hard to see.

You never use digital zoom. It's pointless since it basically just crops and stretches the image. I don't know why they added a digital zoom in since it only ruins pictures normally

I mean zooming at the photo not the digital zoom. Compared to the photo took by Galasy Series flageship, Sony's detail showing is miserable.
