Curious If anyone else has had this issue.. I live in an area with above average 4G coverage.. when on 4G tablet always shows full bars and never any less than two.. This is my primary device now so I use Google voice for all text and calls through Groove IP or sometimes Skype. The issue I am having is that the 4G most of the time is super slow and in most cases even slower than my smart phone that used to be 3G only.. along with the slowness when it does work it just hangs and hangs and hangs.. if i open the browser (Dolphin or Stock) it takes nearly a full min. just to open to Google which is my default home page.. If I check Facebook Or Twitter (Tweetcaster Pro) same things.. using navigation the data turns completely off then switches back on..
I LOVE THIS TABLET! but now being my primary device it is really becoming an issue.. called vzw and was sent to their tier 2 tech support but both reps barely knew anything about the device which leads me to believe vzw must not have sold many.. In the end they recommended a factory reset which I did but now a month later still having the same issue.. not sure what else to do and do not know much about SIM Cards but is it possible I have a bad one that needs to be replaced since I believe that is how this thing gets data??
Any suggestions or Ideas would be helpful, THANK YOU

That's a very annoying problem with Verizon's IPv6 DNS servers. Simple fix: Download "Set DNS" from Google Play (need to be rooted I think) and then set DNS servers to "Google DNS" and everything flies

Thank you so much for this tip. Although my performance was not as bad as the OP, I did notice my TAB was slow to initiate connections. I just figured it to be a quirk of 4G. Updating the resolver has made a big difference so far in 4G performance. I'm using an app called DNS Changer off the play store.

I have a very odd set of questions to accomplish a very specific thing.
The atrix 4G was the best smartphone to use when driving, The simple mount with the unified power/audio cable, the interface, so I want to make it a permanent carphone for navigation and music.
so my roommate that I drive around with went with this idea and threw in his kindle 2 sim card to use, but there are 2 problems, but only one of them needs to be solved.
A. no data, I get signal, it recognizes the signal strength and carrier, but it can transfer any data, I believe it is a problem with the APN but after hours of researching and tweaking, I got no progress.
B. offline navigation. The sim will give me a GPS location, which is awesome, but while I can download maps of the area in google maps I cannot use navigation without a web connection. I would prefer to use the native app but that's just me being reluctant to trying new apps, so if I have to use a 3rd party app I can.
I don't really expect the kindle 2 sim to work for obvious reasons, even if I did get it to do data I would use it very lightly.
Another option is some kinda way to switch between 2 AT&T sims on my "unlimited" data account, as physically switching them will be a pain.
3rd option is a some kinda cheapo AT&T/T-Mobile quarter gig $10/mo plan.
At this point I am just tossing around ideas, and need some help steering and executing this project.
I'd be shocked if whatever network that Amazon uses for their kindles doesnt check the IMEI number of the phone to ensure its actually a kindle for this very reason. You're going to have to look at some other carrier for your needs. I'd avoid T-Mobile since the Atrix does not support their 3G bands at this time (they may in the future to support unlocked iphones, but I wouldnt count on it).
Amazon is probably using it's own proxy server for mobile data, and even if you managed to configure your phone to use it most likely Amazon will ban your sim card very soon.
I think the best solution is to set up your regular phone with unlimited data as wi-fi hotspot and use this wi-fi connection from Atrix mounted in car.
I agree with tananaev. I have read about countless people getting their kindle banned because they tried to tether it. Setting up a hotspot in your car from primary phone would be best. Just remember someone might try to break your window to steal your phone. I personally use line in with PowerAmp. Turns off when unplugged, turns on when plugged. Simple.
Data is not important for a 'car stereo'. With the atrix, you have roughly 10gb of space for music/videos and microSD are really cheap if you need more. Also, consider trying Navfree from the market. It uses openstreetmaps.org and is completely free and offline.

I am running Netflix version 3.9.1 build 4105 and Android 4.4.2.
When I open Netflix the program just sits and spins and spins then gives me a "Sorry we could not reach Netflix Service. Please try again later (-9)". Then I clear app data and after I do that and relaunch then I get the extremely common 15001 error (that is impossible to actually troubleshoot..).
I have read multiple people having issues with Netflix, but that was when they released a patch that broke it and I am pretty sure that isn't a common problem anymore. I have one of the apps that show network activity and all I get is random hits of like 20-30 KB/s max while trying to launch Netflix. I have tried this on two completely different networks, so I don't think it has anything to do with my network.
My device is rooted with TWRP installed, but I don't see how this could have any affect on Netflix (it never did on my old rooted Nexus 7 running Cyanogen Mod).
Is there something I can try that maybe I haven't heard yet? I even tried clearing the Google Services Framework cache/data (as this helped people in the past) and that changed nothing above. Not being able to use Netflix is a huge problem for me and I am hoping someone has run into this on our devices. I imagine Netflix is one of the most common Apps used.
Thanks for any help or ideas anyone can provide. If I need to I'll restore the tablet with Fastboot, but there is no guarantee that will work and an obvious pain if it doesn't.
Edit: Read the latest comments on Netflix and it seems there are still plenty of people having problems just like mine. I guess I may be waiting for a new version to release??

I have the exact same problem! No matter what it's the same error, restoring the tablet doesn't work either.
Screw Netflix, use TV portal! https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BzI_9bXSPgLUX0kwVV8wd3lsTGM/view
When you grab a movie with TV portal, then use Tubemate to download mp4 quality movies of your choice. (touch the green arrow above to get the download interface)
http://www.androidfreeware.net/download-youtube-tubemate.html
I don't think anyone has problems these days ripping off movies, however streaming thousands of movies and TV shows is more convenient by a mile (especially on a tablet).
That is indeed one reason Google & apple push to get rid of the power of personal storage and force the cloud.
When Netflix won't work when you finally settle for a movie, it's nice to have options.
The measly amount Netflix charges is worth it, they have a good service....
But as you know, traveling you are forced to use sporadic data on the road that cost. Until they fix that, I want my storage.
Thank you for starting this thread driving me nuts today! Thought I was alone. It's my son's tablet and Netflix is one of his major uses for it. Tried so many fixes and none are working. Guess we'll keep an eye out for an update.
Also, anyone have trouble with Netflix in general? I had to install an xposed mod just to get it to run!?!
Edit: I tried a much older version of Netflix and it's working perfectly: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/netflix-inc/netflix/netflix-3-2-0-build-1340-apk/
I then updated the app again and it refused to load at all. Rolled back and turned off auto updates.
How do you turn off auto updates for a single program? I know how to turn it off completely, but is there a way to do it just for Netflix? It's not like we can deny it network connection..
Also does anyone know the last Netflix version that did work? I think it was around December 2014.
I can also confirm that Netflix 3.2.0 build 1340 does work.

Go to Netflix in the play store then hit the three buttons in the top right and the option to disable auto updates should be there.
Never got around to testing other builds as that on works fine for my kid.
I believe the reason behind new versions beyond 3.7.1 not working is because of below;
"As of version 3.7.2, Netflix has begun using Forced Google DNS lookup for their Android app. This means that the Netflix app bypasses any DNS servers you setup on the Android device or on the router and uses Google DNS instead.
Traditionally we were able to block Google DNS lookups on the router and force Netflix to use alternative DNS. However, the Android app seems to not work at all if Google DNS is blocked."
In any case I can confirm that version 3.7.1 build 1711 does work as it should.
Also as recommended earlier you have to stop the app prom auto updating.
Hope that helps.
I sideloaded IPVanish on my Shield device and all was working well. However, I later had to do a hard reset. After setting everything up again, I now have a problem where although I connect to a vpn server I have no internet access. All is back to normall when I disconnect from the vpn server. Tried YouTube, Play Store, Kodi (which doesn't even load past the initial gray screen before showing the Kodi Krypton splash). None work!
When I connect to a server initially, my IP address stays the same until I change to a different menu, then it does reflect the new IP corresponding to the server. It does show that data is being uploaded and downloaded, but it's minimal kb.
I have tried multiple different versions of the APK but have found none of them work anymore. I have done and tried the exact methods I have seen online and on numerous YouTube videos, but clearly something is wrong with my settings that I can't seem to find.
Anyone have any ideas or previous experience? Thanks!
**Sidenote - I've also noticed that when I sideload any apps now through ES File Explorer the initial screen that loads up shows the app icon, the install/cancel buttons, but no details in the middle....
Does this Provider impose limits on how many installs you can have running? Perhaps you need to log into your Account, and see about removing such Ghost Devices that are eating into that limit..
It's a problem I have recently ran into with KeepSafe's VPN Unlimited. Alas they will only allow you to remove only the One Device per Week though.

Thanks for the reply! That's a great idea and I thought something similar. I went to IPVanish website a few days ago when this first happened, but there's nothing about the devices I use. Good news is that while it's one of the highest rated providers there's no number to call and it's been 4 days without a response to my first inquiry to them. So frustrating! Maybe on their end it has something like that and they clear out every few days hopefully if this is the case.

***UPDATE***
Well, it's ridiculously quirky but I figured out how to get it to work! I have to pick a specific server, then leave the app, then go back to it and it finally changes IP address and gives me internet!
My only persistent problem now is Kodi, which loads properly with no VPN connected but gives me a gray screen otherwise. UGH!
Not sure what the problem is. But for the nSATV I would recommend KeepSafes' (VPN Unlimited), which is only 26€'s for a whole Year, or about 100€ (or so), for a lifetime. And unlike your solution... It hasn't really ever screwed with my Systems nearly as much as whatever your running has. Such issues, that I do have with it are with both Amazon, and Netflix, which don't overly care for an active VPN much.
I'm not here to drive up sales for KeepSafe. (Perhaps your Provider offers a better service. Which they should seeing as they cost over 3x as much! Over a year.), It's just the first Provider I came across in the PlayStore, and FWIW have been nothing but, happy with them.
Hey guys,
I am having an issue with WhatsApp since about two weeks on my OnePlus 5. WhatsApp is having trouble reconnecting after closing the app, or when it hasn't been used in a while. It takes about 30 seconds to reconnect after sending a text. I only have this issue on my own home WiFi, and came to the conclusion that maybe pfSense (my firewall) has something to do with it. I have already tried resetting pfSense, tried different access points, and even resetted my phone and installed LineageOS (came from OxygenOS with the same issue). Two other people who live in the house, who have Samsung and iPhone, don't seem to have a problem. A friend of mine, who also has a OnePlus 5, also had trouble connecting to WhatsApp while on my WiFi. Connection to WhatsApp on 4G (LTE) is instantanious. Facebook messaging doesn't seem to have a problem on WiFi either, and as long as I keep using WhatsApp, as soon as it's connected, everything's fine.
I hope someone knows what I could do about this, it's really frustrating.
Thanks!

Troubleshooting firewalls is little bit out of scope of the oneplus thread. Resetting a firewall without further knowledge won't resolve anything unless you know what applications are using which ports/ip's or other qos parameters for example.
In other words: you break it down to the firewall already, with other devices that's good!
But since someone needs YOUR firewall configuration along with YOUR ISP credentials along with IP'S and so on its nearly impossible to help from outside of your home network.
Wireshark can give more insight
There's no general whatsapp problem on oneplus 5 with WiFi.
Some user reported a similar delay on receiving messages, maybe you can try this out since you didn't mention your os version of your op5 etc: https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/themes/magisk-pixel-2-wifi-mod-t3752321

Ahm, quick google search on "OnePlus" + "WiFi" + "WhatsApp" seems to show otherwise.
And it's not even OnePlus 5 exclusive -- happens on OnePlus 6 and OnePlus 3T as well (my case).
[e.g.: https://www.reddit.com/r/whatsapp/comments/9eftbs/whatsapp_not_sending_messages_or_sends_in_delay/
https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5t/help/whatsapp-doesnt-receive-messages-till-t3833257 ]
And the best part?
It's the exact same behavior described there. And I've tried every known trick in the book plus a couple more, to no avail.
No Google Push Heartbeat fix, no battery optimization, not even completely disabling Doze.
Also it happens on Both Android 8 and Android 9.
AND -- only on OOS Roms.
It also happens regardless of the WiFi network you're on.. I've tested on multiple home routers, multiple enterprise grade networks, multiple router brands - Google, Linksys, Dlink, and on and on and on.
AND -- If I switch to, let's say - LineageOS, the problem vanishes completely, so I know it's not a WiFi network issue, or a phone hardware issue.
(Unfortunately, that comes with its own minor issues in other areas.)
I literally just bought a new Phone (Pixel 3) because of that issue alone, which has been plaguing me for more than a year now, and makes me keep my WiFi disabled at home ???
and I have to keep juggling it because sometimes I want to watch youtube or netflix so -- back on, but then turn off again because otherwise I don't get wpp messages.
And all the other apps work fine on WiFi.
It's just WhatsApp.
Unfortunately, IMHO Pixel 3's camera SUCK. No matter how much praise it gets out there.
The images all look strongly over-processed, and I've taken comparison pics with my 3T, e Pixel 3 and a Nikon D600,
and I'll say in a pinch that the Pixel 3 is not a clear improvement over 3T at all.
Which means I'm selling it and now I'm back trying to fix this goddamn wpp issue.
(I just wish everyone went to Telegram =/)
But hey OP, did you have any luck???
Please share!! =S
Still an issue...
Same problem here, and still on going. Anyone found a fix yet? It seems to happen when the phone goes to sleep, almost like the WiFi connection sleeps too, though I can't find any settings to control such a thing...
