How fast do you overclock?
Currently running at 1.5ghz/800mhz (Max/Min)
I have never had any issues.
Who goes faster, and any issues in doing so?
What governor are you using?
Sent from my u8800 using XDA App
I was going to mention that. I am using Smartass V2. I do not really understand governors. Care to explain?
Governor is how the system uses processor throttling/stepping. You should google linux + governor or android + governor for a little more detailed information on each governors..

Can the governors be edited on the stock ROM? I seem to remember trading this was possible.

Of course, but you need a rooted phone, search in the market for no frills cpu or setcpu, there u can change the governos and i/o scheduler
---------- Post added at 07:32 PM ---------- Previous post was at 07:31 PM ----------
Im using 480/1200 with SmartassV2 and BFQ as i/o scheduler on my u8800-51
I'm using 1.8 ghz max value. It's stable there. I ran a quadrant and scored 3500. Min 245 ondemand governor. Tried also 1.9 but failed in the middle of quadrant.

my phone is rooted and I already have set CPU but when setting up SetCPU I use the recommended detection and I seem to be stuck on 806MHz as maximum freq.
I played with deleting setcpu data and trying one of the options but no selection there to suite my phone as far as I can tell.
would love to overclock just a little more as a way learn more than anything else...
Edit: OK just read setcpu help pages and that bit of it is a little clearer. I'm going to go looking for what this phone freq governors can handle. If anyone wants to help with what series of governors you are using that would be great
Just rooting your phone won't help. You need to have a kernel that supports the overclocks. If you use SetCPU with a rooted device only (without a different kernel) it will only see what the phone can handle, hence, 806Mhz.
If you went to something like Oxygen/CM7/MIUI, they come with kernels that already have the other CPU frequencies written in and then SetCPU will see them and you will be able to select them.

But with stock kernel and rooted phone u can change governors and i/o scheuler the only thing that u cant change is cpu freq
OS: Android 2.3 Gingerbread B522 (official version 28/12/2012)
Kernel: OC .35 Genoklar
Speed Max/Min: 1.2Ghz/368Mhz
Governor: Ondemand
I/O Scheduler: noop
Phone calls messages, wifi, and some games and lasts for 2 days normally.
Moderated use.
If I push it I melt the battery in less than 8 hours...
Okay i start with my 1st RAMUSAGE
its about 190-240mb then i use v6supercharger and find bloatware and freeze of all them so that they will not run on background
and then i GOT 171-186-220mb or RAM so im thinking if there anymore bloatware?all of them maybe???
coz somewhere here he helps me i forgot his name but he go 130-160mb RAM usage using repencis with v6 and freeze bloatware
thanks in advance More power XDA

Hmm..nope imo both have heavy ram consumption Creeds better with an init.d working kernel since it got very good init.d scripts included in it.
i think it depends on application that start on boot.. like dps im the man that dont want music though kinda want it a bit.. D at 1st install i got 190-240 just like mention because of built in apps try to use it D

DSP takes max of 4mb ram bro. Not a big deal. Creeds 3.5 has very minimal running apps compared to rep 3.5 and it has stock kernel. Beginners dont know how to use repencis kernel effectively, if they dont underclock the cpu and change governers/i/o or stuff , creeds 3.5 is better since stock kernel is better optimized for normal usage

Your kernel support underclocking by using setcpu or no-frills cpu or antutu cpu master or cpu tuner.
Once you use them youll get to know.
Use Lagfree or lionheart or smoothass governer with sio i/o for gaming or heavy performance.
Use smartassv2 governer and sio i/o for balanced performance.
Use ondemand or conservative governor with deadline i/o for battery saving.

Hmm..Its the frequencies mate. It ranges 312-624-832. Use 312-624 for battery saving/balanced and 312-832 for performance/more balanced and use the governor combo I gave before. Hey there ,
so i wanted to share share my awsome Undervolting results with you
At first im running on Chasmodo's latest CM 10.1 i really appreciate his work ! I use the latest CM 10.1 Kernel.
With his rom and this voltages u find under this introduciton text i could get nearly a month with Standby time
(without doing anything , Wlan turned on , Data off) i attached a screenshot (29 Days and 5 Hours sorry for the German language)
Every day i plug my N7000 out from the Loading station its 5am on 3pm i lost 1%.
to change the Voltages i use SetCPU (full version)
1400 MHz
1200 mV (Stock: 1350mV)
1200 MHz
1100 mV (Stock: 1275mV)
1000 MHz
1000 mV (Stock: 1175mV)
800 MHz
925 mV (Stock: 1100mV)
500 MHz
900 mV (Stock 1000mV)
200 MHz
800 mV (Stock: 975mV)
So i dont know my Voltage group sorry guys , if this values are not working just go in 25mV steps lower from your stock voltage
until the CPU gets unstable or crashes than u know that u cant go lower just do this with every clocking !
I also used this voltages on XXLSC Ultimate Rom with the HydraCoreNirvana Kernel i had fantastic results too but not that good like i get with the Asylum CM 10.1.
PS: Just this Voltages wont give you very good Battery life if your Rom / Settings is/are eating your battery. If you get better results with
lower results (stable) just go ahead and post it but im sure this values are nearly the lowest stable u can get
Code:
Its [U]impossible [/U]to hard brick your device with Undervolting , you only could get a soft brick if you use (Set on Boot) and your voltages will crash your System after boot. thats easy to fix just after the phon booted up fast go into SuperSU and delete the root rights for your Undervolting tool.
Thanks for Reading and if i you liked this push the Thanks button =) !:victory:
Thanks man
I think you should say which Voltgroup (A, B or C) your note is. Because those freq are really low (I think too much low for my note, that's voltgroup B).
Do you remember which voltgroup has your note, when you installed hydracore kernel?
Better i would buy a spare battery rather than spoiling my devices performance. We arr not in 1000BC with no electricity. Sure every one can charge a spare and can switch it.

It's a feature of the hydracore kernel only I think, because its read a particular value (something about mainboard and/or cpu) and the kernel automatically apply dedicated undevolt values. You could see it in system information, where hydracore kernel is detected. Without it, I think you can't do anything :/
Anyway, sincerely I remember some time ago I tried to lower my already undervolted cpu voltages, and I got freezes. I will try to go lower a bit, hoping it will works. A very important thing, is not only the lower battery drain, but also the lower cpu temps.

never had any problems and just logical cpus could brick if you give them too mutch voltage , if you give them less voltage the system only can crash your sound could have been beacuse it crashed so really u cant hard brick your device with undervolting ... maybe a softbrick if your unstable voltage settings are on autostart.

Nice attitude you are showing there. Oh, there is plenty of power, let's waste.it! Really, that kind off attitude is definitely going to make the world a better place
What's more why do you think undervolting does influence the performance? It only influences the power consumtion and if you go too far it does render the phone unstable. But it certainly does not in-, or decrease the cpu's performance.

Yep tegrak definitely does the trick with PhilZ kernels. I have been using it for at least 8 months now and my phone is undervolted too. Only the highest cpu state is overvolted because I overclocked it to 1552 MHz instead of 1400.

Please explain why you overvolted AND overclocked the highest cpu state. Doesn't this shorten your batteries performance?
Did you changed cpu governor or something else (like screen off profile to reduce CPU) to achieve 1% battery loss at 3pm?
And was that with mobile data on?

I overcloked the highest cpu state from 1400 Mhz to 1552 Mhz because I want more performance. And because my phone became unstable with the 1552 Mhz and the standard voltage. So now my phone saves energy when the lower cpu states are active and it has a bit of extra power at the expense of battery life when it needs the most processing power. All in all that gives me better battery life than with stock settings and a snappier device when needed. For me this is the ideal solution.

depending on the kernel u are using, u have different options.
to configure the kernel settings use any app like Trickster mod.
for battery life try to lower the max cpu frequency, u may undervolt a bit too but the most important is to choose a good governor that dont raise the cpu clock without any real need (keeping ur cpu a lower frequency == less heat and less voltage used == better battery life and somewhat better preformance ratio).
For IO: ROW, FIOPS or tweaked BFQ.
i recommend u to take a look at moob kernel (from @bedalus), and u will understand what i stated about UV not being the best way to save battery and produce less heat
I have a kernel for you to try http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=51373661&postcount=1199

What kernel are you using?
linux version 3.4.0 (boeffla-kernel-1.1-beta2-samsung=g900f20150513
Ask creator then why this kernel is killing your phone. I have never seen such temperatures on my device
thanks
@mr-blue001 try different kernel, imo there is something with settings on this one. I had never tested kernel which you are using so I can't tell anything more. I believe that in the author's thread you can get more accurate answers for your issue.
