Undervolting the GT-N7000 for better Battery life - Galaxy Note GT-N7000 General

Hey there ,
so i wanted to share share my awsome Undervolting results with you
At first im running on Chasmodo's latest CM 10.1 i really appreciate his work ! I use the latest CM 10.1 Kernel.
With his rom and this voltages u find under this introduciton text i could get nearly a month with Standby time
(without doing anything , Wlan turned on , Data off) i attached a screenshot (29 Days and 5 Hours sorry for the German language)
Every day i plug my N7000 out from the Loading station its 5am on 3pm i lost 1%.
to change the Voltages i use SetCPU (full version)
1400 MHz
1200 mV (Stock: 1350mV)
1200 MHz
1100 mV (Stock: 1275mV)
1000 MHz
1000 mV (Stock: 1175mV)
800 MHz
925 mV (Stock: 1100mV)
500 MHz
900 mV (Stock 1000mV)
200 MHz
800 mV (Stock: 975mV)
So i dont know my Voltage group sorry guys , if this values are not working just go in 25mV steps lower from your stock voltage
until the CPU gets unstable or crashes than u know that u cant go lower just do this with every clocking !
I also used this voltages on XXLSC Ultimate Rom with the HydraCoreNirvana Kernel i had fantastic results too but not that good like i get with the Asylum CM 10.1.
PS: Just this Voltages wont give you very good Battery life if your Rom / Settings is/are eating your battery. If you get better results with
lower results (stable) just go ahead and post it but im sure this values are nearly the lowest stable u can get

Its [U]impossible [/U]to hard brick your device with Undervolting , you only could get a soft brick if you use (Set on Boot) and your voltages will crash your System after boot. thats easy to fix just after the phon booted up fast go into SuperSU and delete the root rights for your Undervolting tool.

I think you should say which Voltgroup (A, B or C) your note is. Because those freq are really low (I think too much low for my note, that's voltgroup B).
Do you remember which voltgroup has your note, when you installed hydracore kernel?

Better i would buy a spare battery rather than spoiling my devices performance. We arr not in 1000BC with no electricity. Sure every one can charge a spare and can switch it.

Hey there i dont remember never looked at the Voltgroup sorry so there is no other way to view my Voltgroup ?
Btw just try the voltages without autostart and u will see if your system reboots or if it works if not just go in 25mV steps higher :highfive:

Why ?
I cant get your argument my performance is the same speed while im gaming browsing same performance than before .. no impact , drops .. a spare battery ? So what about i dont want to switch my battery ? there is no need for it my battery stays alive for atleast 2-3 days when im doing something with it .

It's a feature of the hydracore kernel only I think, because its read a particular value (something about mainboard and/or cpu) and the kernel automatically apply dedicated undevolt values. You could see it in system information, where hydracore kernel is detected. Without it, I think you can't do anything :/
Anyway, sincerely I remember some time ago I tried to lower my already undervolted cpu voltages, and I got freezes. I will try to go lower a bit, hoping it will works. A very important thing, is not only the lower battery drain, but also the lower cpu temps.

I bought rom toolbox full sometime ago, when there was sales. If I remember correctly, there is a section relative to the cpu control, but I don't remember if it was undervolting capable also. You should start to search it from there (I'm sorry, I don't have the app installed anymore, so I can't help you properly... In case, use voltage control app)

Yes, you're right, I just checked (installing my bought pro version) and it hasn't the uv features. Anyway, as I suggested, he can use voltage control (even if I don't know if his kernel support the uv/oc)

What do you mean by Rom Toolbox doesn't have voltage control?
Tap kernel tweaks, then any frequency and you'll find a voltage slider in there.

Maybe it depend from the kernel I'm using now (philz 3.99 on BurtRom tw rom) but I can't able to do what you said. I checked on rom toolbox pro again, and I didn't see any uv feature. Just goverors/kernel tweaks (like vm or fs features) or profiles management... Nothing else.
Anyway I'm using tegrak ultimate app to Undervolt my cpu and gpu, and it works perfectly, so I don't miss so much that feature.

I don't know - I am not sure if Undervolting could hard-brick or damage the hardware but back then running GB roms I had undervolted FM Kernel and there was trrrr trrr trrr like sound from my Note.
Be careful.

I have to do a custom rom just to see if its all true....otherwise am not interested at all in undervolting my phone. Hope its true...

never had any problems and just logical cpus could brick if you give them too mutch voltage , if you give them less voltage the system only can crash your sound could have been beacuse it crashed so really u cant hard brick your device with undervolting ... maybe a softbrick if your unstable voltage settings are on autostart.

no need for a custom rom mate , you just need a custom kernel wich is able to uv for example HydraCoreNirvana

Hey there , you cant uv with Philz kernel just read his thread check his FAQ there hes writing that hes not supporting
oc/uv its just a repacked stock kernel
use HydraCoreNirvana but when you download the kernel check that its the OC version if not than you cant change your voltage like with Philz kernel.

Just use tegrak ultimate Overclock app. I bought it because I think it's the only who give you the possibility to Undervolt the gpu also. Initially, philz kernel wasn't supported, but now it is. I undervolted my cpu setting the values that I had using the hydracore kernel oc. And today I lowered them of another - 25mV also. Everything works nicely until now

Nice attitude you are showing there. Oh, there is plenty of power, let's waste.it! Really, that kind off attitude is definitely going to make the world a better place
What's more why do you think undervolting does influence the performance? It only influences the power consumtion and if you go too far it does render the phone unstable. But it certainly does not in-, or decrease the cpu's performance.

Yep tegrak definitely does the trick with PhilZ kernels. I have been using it for at least 8 months now and my phone is undervolted too. Only the highest cpu state is overvolted because I overclocked it to 1552 MHz instead of 1400.

I would love this kernel under ubls4 if it has a proper exfat support. Until this is not fixed like philz kernel, I can not test or try

Please explain why you overvolted AND overclocked the highest cpu state. Doesn't this shorten your batteries performance?

Did you changed cpu governor or something else (like screen off profile to reduce CPU) to achieve 1% battery loss at 3pm?
And was that with mobile data on?

I overcloked the highest cpu state from 1400 Mhz to 1552 Mhz because I want more performance. And because my phone became unstable with the 1552 Mhz and the standard voltage. So now my phone saves energy when the lower cpu states are active and it has a bit of extra power at the expense of battery life when it needs the most processing power. All in all that gives me better battery life than with stock settings and a snappier device when needed. For me this is the ideal solution.

Try installing an overstock kernel, like Eugene373's Deadhorse Kernel, then you can download One Click Lag Fix from the market.
Just install a kernel that has oc capabilities and use set CPU to adjust the frequencies

after you have the oc kernel installed go into set cpu and set an audible alarm and for when your temp goes above 115 Fahrenheit, in that profile have it drop your clock speed down to 1000 or 800 to help your phone cool off before reactivating the full oc. Ive never had any problems with the cpu getting to hot oc'd to 1.2 thats not to say you wont.

All you need is a kernel that supports OC ie. (DoW, Tigersblood, Overstock, Dragon) you should be golden but double check compatibility with whatever ROM ur running.
I use "set cpu" to torque it up to 1.2(or whatever the kernel OC's to) Then i use "SystemPanel Lite" to check and make sure its actually OCing. In the system app it has a CPU Clock in the top right corner which monitors ur current cpu. When the system app opens it has a list of active applications i simply move the list up and down repeatedly really fast and watch the "CPU Clock" if it maxes out at 1.2 or whatever its good to go. I remember one time(cant remember what kernel)but set cpu showed 1.2 or 1.4 and even in system CPU info it showed OCed but if you did like i just described the CPU Clock never went above 1000Mhz. Like it was just showing as OC even tho it really wasn't it was really weird the clock would max out at 1000Mhz with dead space above it like it could go over but never would.

i never knew you could set audible alarms(guess i never really looked into it) thanks for that! running DoW221 OC to 1.4 i used to see my temps hit 120-130 it would freak me out! but never had any problems except for batt life avg 6-7hrs.
Personally my best OC ROM/kernel setup to this date has been MALICE[EDT]+Tigersblood(any release) everything works and great batt life for a OC kernel

Just make sure you backup before trying. Some Vibrants cannot handle overclocking (and there's no real way to know until you try). Mine is one of those, and if it can't handle it, an Odin to stock will be in your immediate future.

GPU undervolting what app to use for this?

OK, so we have setcpu to undervolt. I'm doing this on my Note II and running 1600Mhz at 1200mV (all others -50mV) which I think is helping batter life. I watched an 1 1/2 movie and the battery only dropped 7% :highfive: Better than stock for sure
Anyone know of an app that will let us undervolt the GPU?
I remember there was tegrak, but the Note II is not supported. Also Stweaks or something?
Maybe have to wait untill all developers settle and get sourcecodes and other stuff...

Galaxy S3 overclocking

Hello guys. I just want to take information that there are many tweaks to overclock galaxy s3 to max 1.8 ghz. If we set to maximum overclocking then is there any risk for damage hardware? Because 2 months before i had nokia n8 & i set this device to overclock & it damaged all board,now its totally destroyed. According to my point of view,sometime i think that nokia n8 has only 680 ghz & due to overclock it run on higher clock speed & so that due to low processor it could not manage or handle the higher clock speed & it ran on heavy clock speed continuesly then overload of processor it got damaged. It is my fear for s3. And i think for s3 that it has higher processor with 1.4 ghz,if i set it to 1.8 ghz then there is no risk bcoz of there are cpu governor. With this,the s3 does not run continues on 1.8 ghz higher speed, governor takes control over the cpu to run on higher clock speed according to their high usage like 200 ghz, 500ghz, 800 ghz, 1.4ghz & so on. So i think i can overclock my galaxy s3 with kernel but I'm still confused & I'm not expert. So plz suggest me to do overclock without any damage fear. Thanx a lot.

If i don't but you know then u can tell me about any risk.
NOTHING is without risk, but a good place to start is just to install the latest Siyah S3 Kernel and run it it at 1.6ghz for the CPU and default settings for the GPU. I tried running my CPU at 1.7 and 1.8 and the it wasn't 100% stable and the temps were to high for my liking. Be moderate in your settings and you shouln't encounter any issues.

That will give you a good performance bump with the minimum of risk (in my opinion).
Other than that installing a bloatware free ROM will also give a nice bump. I personally run Omega V29 with the above 1.6 overclock settings and it lightning fast. :good:

1.8ghz isn't stable for most people but 1.7 is quite stable.
How well your device handles overclocking depends on the quality of the chip you got.
This is down to the manufacturing process, you may get a good chip from the middle of the wafer or a not so good one from nearer the edge.
if you want to reduce heat them you should undervolt the CPU, less current means less heat.
Obviously it isn't good for the hardware in the long run but that's what you gotta take into account when you overclock, I've overclocked every phone I've ever had and haven't had any problems but YMMV.

could u plz tell me that what is the process of undervolt if i undervolt the cpu then it is related to only heat or performence also?
If you use siyah kernel then in the stweaks app that comes with it you can choose how much you want to undervolt.
I suggest starting with -25mv or -50mv and check stability.
I use -100mv without problems but like in said earlier YMMV.
It doesn't give a performance boost per se, but less heat in the chip will mean that it doesn't hit the temperature throttle threshold as easily and that means more performance.
The CPU will begin to throttle (limit clock speed) at around 75c until the temp drops and the CPU is allowed to run at max clock speed again.
Usually you will only hit the temp throttle threshold under very heavy loads, for example repeated benchmarks.

1.7ghz should be alright for a 32nm chip like the exynos 4412 on our s3. HTC has had their One S (with a 45 nm chip) clocked at 1.7 ghz. The lower the nanoneter, the more ambitious you can be with clock speeds. Try 1.6 or 1.7 ghz with default voltage settings and see how that goes

You are using -100 undervolt, that mean its high current & mean if i select 25 to 50 then its less current than 100??? & is there any battery improvement if i select less current mean less heat.?
I am using -100mv, as in minus 100mv, 100mv less than stock.
Less current is less heat and *maybe* battery savings.
-100mv is less current than -50mv.

siyah, its most beginner friendly wih stweaks (for ICS you should check 1.5 version if its still obtainable, however should be)

Antutu and Quadrant, all are just bull****. Just to see their manipulated scores, overclocking does not make any sense.
At ground level, applications do not run anything faster as overclocking alone does not work here. Even if you get milli milli milli second improvement which is just nothing against damage of CPU.
Got it?? now start using your phone as it should be and made for.
Before overclocking you should ask yourself Why you want to overclock. If it's because the phone have some lags there is other(safer) way to solve this problem. Honestly I overclock mine for a while (just because I'm a tester) but the S3 is fast enough for everything. You should see my S3. The app drawer appears (almost) instantaneously. Any games play smoothly etc...
On this phone overclocking is possible but useless. If you want to learn how to overclock just to learn how, search in the stickies for the overclocking guide.
I have tried overclocking and undervolting for the last week now and I can say that overclocking has not made any visible difference to my S3. Overclocking seems to be a nice option to have, but the S3 does not need it. Undervolting on the other hand reduces lag considerably when playing games for long periods. Usually my S3 started to get laggy after about 1 hour of Asphalt, but now it does not get laggy at all. I have undervolted by (-)125.

When I play pokemon black 2 on nds4droid without overclocking it gives me 20 to 30 fps and when I overclock it to 1.7 GHz i get 28 to 35 fps

Firstly you need a kernel supporting overclocking... Secondly its fine if u wanna play around with your device... Lastly I would suggest u to overclock it to 1704 MHz max (avoiding any boot loops )....
I would recommend Siyah 1.9.1 (as your Kernel) and "Noop" as your I/O Scheduler... In case ure using Siyah as your Kernel, try using "Lulzactiveq" as your governer...
Furthermore u can tweak the governer if u want more juice out of it....

Usually my S3 started to get laggy after about 1 hour of Asphalt, but now it does not get laggy at all. I have undervolted by (-)125.

Lag can be reduced by tweaking your governer and some other settings... U don't have to underclock it...

I have tried overclocking to1600, and although Quadrant stats are higher, I did not notice any difference in normal usage. I am a general usage text and phone calls and email user. Minimal game playing. I stick to 1400 now and everything seems just the same!!
At the moment I am running Sotmax rom and boeffla kernel.

How safe is overclocking?

I am experiencing lag on real racing 3, on high graphics. If I overclock to say 2ghz on cpu, will the tablet be stable enough? Should I undervolt ( and does it actually make any difference on temps)? I want to overclock but not at the cost of huge battery drain, can some1 recommend me a good kernel and some stable oc steps?

Are you running a custom ROM and kernel? I play RR3 daily and have NO lag. AOKP PUB ROM with ktmanta kernel, at 1.7mhz CPU and GPU OC to 720. Runs great.
Most OC is safe, issues are really with battery and overheating. I've run for long periods at 1900 just fine.
So there's no way the tablet will melt down because of the heat? Does warranty cover that? Assuming they don't know it was overclocked, which they couldn't because the device would be dead, right? I guess they don't bother to repair it and see if it was rooted.
LE: btw did you manage to safely undervolt? Even a -5 gives me reboots on most freqs.
Any time I try to use the app from the store to set the graphics mode it causes problems. Running RR3 without it works fine.

Take a look at the KTmanta thread. KTmanta is a great option for what you are after, he notes and codes distinctions between clocking and thermal protection, plus unless you lock the settings, they will reset at reboot!
If you tell Google you messed it up from some sort of tinkering, no - they won't help you.

I am assuming you must be using the KTmanta kernel right? I thought it was the only kernel right now that allows for user control undervolting. Trinity has a static -50mv value set on all frequencies by default. You should be able to undervolt just about everything. Getting lockups at -5mv lets me think there is something you are not doing correctly

Galaxy S Android 4.4 Unstable overclock

Hi there,
I want to get the most performance out of my old galaxy s but i have a slight problem with 4.4.
I came from Slimbean android 4.3 on 1.2ghz because it worked really slow and gave me alot of problems.
I first flashed (After full wipe) to Mackay 4.4 rom but whatever govenor or sheduler i am using it crashes everytime after a minute or so doing some simple tasks from the slightest overclock (1.1 ghz).
So i flashed to CyanAOSP (full wipe) to see if it would fix the problem but the problem still exist on this rom :c
Is there something wrong with my device?

Taking the phone to pieces and applying thermal compound to the chips gave me another 100Mhz. (rock solid at 1200Mhz when 3D gaming etc). There are 2 chips underneath the motherboard, and if you remove the sim tray from the board there are another few under there. I did them all. Be very careful if you're using Arctic Silver. I would have preferred to use the cheap white stuff but I didn't have any. There is a thread if you search for it with instructions on how to do this if you need it.
And with overclocking there's an element of luck. There are variations in the manufacturing of the chips themselves which can make your particular phone good (or useless) for overclocking.

But why could it do 1.3 ghz on android 4.3 easily? I think it has nothing to do with heat atm.
Because sometimes i can run antutu for 2 times in a row before it crashes. But sometimes it crashes instantly when i press the start button.

It's kernel related issues. I managed to clock in at 1.6Ghz rock stable on CM 10.2 but likewise, a 1.2Ghz overclock on 4.4 is giving me very rear soft reboots

Ah ok now that i know that, its probably going to get fixed sooner or later
Interesting. Mine is stable at 1.2Ghz on 4.4, so I'll be trying to push it a bit more when I get new kernels. I put Arctic Silver on all the chips the other day, even the ones under the sim card tray so hopefully that will help it. I just flashed to semaphore kernel on mackay rom and it is fully stable on 1.3 ghz atm.
Is there a 4.4 semaphore kernel?

Guys , every kernel has its own custom voltages for over clocking . just use an app that controls the voltage (you can find one in play store ) and increase the voltage step by step until your phone is stable. For example : on Mackay I can't over clock not even to 1100 MHz with stock voltages without the phone rebooting after a few seconds but on Semaphore I can oc with stock voltages up to 1200MHz and its stable . on Mackay I messed around with higher voltages until I found the ones that my phone is happy with and I could oc up to 1300 MHz stable after that.

Do you know what voltages I should be using for a 1300 or 1400 overclock? I'm sitting stable at 1200 at the moment, how much do you think I should raise the voltage to keep it stable with another 100 or 200 MHz increase?

I personally use these settings:
Frequency - CPU - Int
1000MHz - 1225 - 1100
1200MHz - 1300 - 1100
1300MHz - 1350 - 1100
1400MHz - I've never got stable 1400MHz OC :/ (I think 1400 1150 should be right for most devices)
Optional:
1100MHz - 1250 - 1100 (some kernels have this step)

Why is there two voltage values you gave for each clock speed though?
I used setcpu, and set the first value. I'm not sure what the other value you gave is? GPU voltage?? Thx

Second value is internal voltage (mostly used with LiveOC to stabilize as it gives voltage to GPU and RAM). With normal OC it should be at stock (1100mV). Some apps, like NSTools gives you opportunity to change those.
Normal OC affects CPU, and liveOC CPU, GPU, RAM, so it's more likely to be unstable. I can't reach 1100 on LiveOC, but on normal I have 1300 easily.

Ah well i am using stock voltages from semaphore kernel and 130% live oc. It is fully stable atm.

Heh there are no two same devices. One overclocks better and one at all. There are devices which can't be overclocked. It's just luck you have with your hardware.
