Chrome paint chipping off? Vinyl wrap is the answer. - Galaxy S I9000 General

The chrome paint had started to chip off on my mates old phone that he was selling so I decided to wrap it with my left over vinyl wrap. All I did is place a big piece of vinyl wrap over the screen, then used a hairdryer to mould it around the corners. I used a blade to cut around the screen and the back of the frame and finally peeled the excess wrap off.
Here are some pics.

Don't know why these came out so blurry.
Sorry I didn't take any progress pictures. Here's a picture to show how I cut the vinyl Dig with your nails first before using a blade to cut.

Or you could buy 4D vinyl wrap which is shiny http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/4D-GLOSS-...6279?pt=UK_Wallpaper&var=&hash=item4d0c035327. If I were to clear coat the vinyl it would be messy and it would start flake off.

Links weren't working for some reason so here's the album link on my Google+ page if they stop working again. https://plus.google.com/photos/1130...ms/5874152438703123889?authkey=CMzDxZrf37muYw

That looks nice. I have a question: how did you manage to work with the wrap in order to cut it and stick it precisely on the phone? Do you still have the length measurement of it?

The wrap needs to be a little bigger than the front of the phone, I don't have the exact dimensions, sorry.
First I put a big piece of vinyl wrap (large enough to cover the screen and the sides) on the front of the phone.
Then I heated up the wrap so I could stretch it around the corners and the back of the phone (remove battery cover) so I get a wrinkle free finish.
Finally I got a thin blade and cut between the screen and the frame to peel off the excess wrap on the screen and the back of the phone.
Sorry for the late reply. If anyone needs more information just ask, I'd be more than willing to help. : ]

Hazy / foggy / blurry camera pictures? Try this!

I looked into this problem as my wife started complaining about hazy pictures on her Trophy. Binged a few things and was soon on my way solving it.
First off: YMMV; this might or might not solve your picture problem. If you mess something up, realize that you did it yourself; I did not make you do it.
Problem: a lot of “haziness” or “cloudiness” in photos; I think this illustrates it quite well:

My diagnosis: tons of small scratches on the phone lens, when looked at through the magnifying glass.
What to do: polish the lens; yes, this might take off some sort of coating that is on there now but really – I don’t think it can be worse than it is now, so – I’m going in!
How to do it:
Tools used:
A few Q-tips
Some toothpaste. Note that I used the Tom’s baking soda toothpaste but I believe that anything would do. I would just NOT use a toothpaste that is obviously coarse, like some of Colgate pastes are (if you get that crunchy feeling when brushing, I think it is too coarse).
A piece of masking tape over the speaker holes in the back of the phone as I don’t want toothpaste in there by mistake
Process:
Wipe any grease off the lens as best as you can
Squeeze a small dab of toothpaste on a small plate; put a small amount of water on another (just a few drops will do I think)
Dip the end of the Q-tip into the toothpaste so there is just a little bit on it
Apply the toothpaste to the lens in circular motion; use pressure, but not enough to drive the Q-tip through the phone. J
Turn the Q-tip around and pick up any excess of paste
Dip another Q-tip into a drop of water and wipe off the residue; if you are leaving water and it is running into the phone, you are using too much.
Finally dry the lens with the dry end of second Q-tip
Check the result under magnifying glass/take a test photo. Repeat if necessary.
Result:
Yey! That'll help the 'ole Trophy serve me until a WP8 device is here! The minty fresh smell is just a bonus!
I got two Trophy's to try this on... I am so doing this sometime after payday (yes, I'm that broke atm).
I confirm that this thing works perfectly. I clear the lens today and the results are great. Thanks for sharing this mate.
The first picture is before cleaning and the other two after!!!
Sweet! Glad it is working!
Apparently, HTC made Trophy camera lens out of butter. Because - both of our phones are in Incipio SILICRYLIC cases (which gives extra space between lens and anything that would rub against it) and yet - they were both messed up. I carry my phone in a pocket, never with keys but still...
I don't know who you are or where you are from. But this worked for me! I've a OnePlus 3T!

Try to find a handmade shoemaker near you, he can use a tool like this one (it's called a "vazador" in portuguese) ...

In the picture all the shapes are circular, but there are other ones, too.
Another option, using a CAD software and a vinyl cutter plotter you may get a perfect result. You may find it in some glassmaking companies (they use it to build mirrors with sandblast on it), or where people does banners for cars, too.
Almost impossible to find (and harder to find free machine time for little jobs), but some small waterjet cutters also work with plastic.
Actually I believe that is easier to buy a cover.

How to fix peeled sgs2 frame without replacing the frame

Do you have spots on your sgs2 screen frame where coating peel off?

I notice that chrome background on peal-off spots turns black after few days, so I decided to peeled off whole frame. For peeling I used my nails. It take a while, but I was very satisfied with result.
You could also try with some hard wood or plastic material, but I don't recommend metal because you can easily scratch the the chrome on the frame.

Yes, it remains black and looks even better than before.
Ok. So you have to peel the ALL the coating until you see the metalic shiny reflective part?
This really works?

Yes , last picture shows how it looks after it's finished.
Did the same on mine a while ago. Totally worth it, but it takes time.
Wooden toothpicks are also great for the space between the screen and the frame, but i admit i used sometimes a cuterblade,... risky.
A soft eraser is good for polishing the plastic also in case of scratches.
S2
It looks great nad better than before(the original) i will do the same with my phone
Patience is the key. Do a little when you have time : you tube buffering, download waiting, girlfriend shopping when waiting outside the shop... kidding...
But you won't regret it : it should have been done like this, but, well they know... if it get destroy, maybe you will change for a new phone, a samsung one,...hmm, with the same sh***ty frame like the s3... and the s4...
EDIT: by the way, i forgot to say that for the rounded corners, the hardest part, i used the metallic part of a standard lighter. The metal can be bended and the paint on that part (so choose one with a paint coating ) is soft enough to prevent scratches...
So much fun

What do you use to clean your One?

Hello guys
Since I absolutely love the way the One looks and feels, I try to clean it almost daily in order to preserve its appearance, color and shape; not only because I want to preserve it, but also because I use the HTC Double Dip Flip cover and that seems to garner dust inside, especially because the sides aren't actually protected. Since the One has a brushed aluminum body like my MacBook Pro, I use the same cleaning tools in order to clean the body.

I use one solution and micro-fiber cloth for the screen, and another solution and fiber cloth for the body.

Microfibre cloth and plain jane club soda - usually flat since I get 2L bottles and use it for windows, glasses, mirrors, cat puke... Works wonders, and you can drink it in a pinch.
Ha ha.. now that's an all-in-one drink.

i will never use a microfiber cloth to clean a screen again, too many times dirt(tiny grains of sand) will get in the cloth without you noticing and then when you rub your screen you will scratch it (especially not in cairo with the desert so close by, even in holland we sometimes get the sahara sand in the air...)

This stuff is great for getting dust and debris out of crevices, ports, and trim like the holes in the speaker covers.

Replacement rear panel

Oops.
A one foot fall from my nightstand to the wooden side panel of my bed has caused the back glass on my S7 to look like a kaleidoscope. And the worst part is that I have a case that would have protected it but didn't have it on.
Ebay appears to have some replacement rear panels. (I like the silver better than the one with which it came.) However there isn't one specific to SM-G930V. I assume any that say G930 are ok? There are versions for AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint and international versions.
Any thoughts on whether this international version or this international version will work?
It should work (95% certain) as they all are the same size/shape. You will lose the verizon stamp though (might consider that a plus lol).

I think the only difference would be the carrier logo on the back, otherwise if it's just the rear cover you should be fine. I personally would just put a layer of thin, clear epoxy over the cracked back and give it a unique look while still being smooth.

I've order one and will try to remember to post back after it is on.
Cadcamaro, if it wasn't for the gear vr I would put the phone on a case and not take it out. Would you still epoxy with cracks this long?

That's a nasty crack, I'd still try it though.
I decided to go for the epoxy first. That way the backing of the phone would stay together and I would just get the glass to stay in place. The goal was not to make this pretty, but to get it all to stay intact and as water resistant as possible.
First I used tape to cover the sides and camera. In retrospect I wish I had put a suction up on the screen to make it easier to hold. If anyone else tries this, also make sure you have a screen protector on as a backup.
Here's what it looked like with the epoxy. I removed the tape before it set.
