[Q] Restore to stock using Odin - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My I9500 was rooted but I want the OTA update so I flash manually the new firmware using Odin, after that the phone reboot and it has the new firmware but I still have all the apps + data. Is there anyway to fully restore to stock using Odin, did I miss anything?

Did F. Reset was check in Odin?

since it is not a wipe package, flashing via odin does not wipe your personnel data and apps. just do a factory reset after flashing to have a fresh firmware

[Q] Can't enter recovery after root???

Hello
i have rooted my i9505 in odin with CF-Auto-Root-jflte-jfltexx-gti9505 which went just fine. Then i have downloaded root check and it confirmed that the phone is rooted. After that i have flashed the newest twrp which worked fine by odin. Then i wasn't able to enter recovery so i flashed philz_touch_6.04.0-jfltexx but still can't enter into recovery mode.
I have searched the forums and have figured out that there is such a problem with at&t devices, i am on a normal gsm/4g device from australian stock.
Any ideas what to do to get this fixed? The stock Rom is horribly slow and bloated.
TIA
Flash official stock firmware and start again, please follow the steps correctly that been described in the thread of the recovery you want to use.

You should use 1.85 only for cfautoroot, and 3.09 for the rest (3.09 was made specifically for i9505 and 3.07 for i9500).

Oh ok will unlock it thanks!
Unlocking the bootloader then updating OTA will brick your device. At least that happened with my Xperia Play, it never got bricked because I never did it. But read up about it to make sure the issue has been fixed on the Z1.
Sorry was maybe I bit short on reply, if you have an unlocked bootloader, ota will not work.

I think it's not just debrand by deleting some stuff ...You should change SI number or flash ftf with different SI to provide OTA

About chaging another country firmware for 4.4.2.

I'm using 4.4.2 - HongKong firmware. But now I want to change to 4.4.2 - Singapore firmware. Is it will brick my phone guys?

No, Its safe.
Nothing will happen
i just recommend to wipe/factory data reset & wipe cache partion
then you flash the rom
No need to wipe data actually. Dirty flash should work. Or wipe /system /cache /dalvic cache

FLASH ANY ROM ON 4.3/4.4.2 (all builds) without having to actually root and Deknox

Update: Also works on official 4.4.2 firmware N7100XXUFND3
Hey there..!
Are you tired to make SuperSU working on your deivce?
Are you stuck to root/install custom ROM on your 4.3 Knoxed Device?
Have a look at what I did to flash a custom ROM without actually rooting the device.
Note:
This tutorial is only for those who want to flash a Custom ROM on their device.
Those who want a rooted stock ROM,then this thread is not for you.
Also, there are least chances that you may brick your device while doing this, until you follow the steps correctly.
This is personally tested by me on my GT-N7100(DDUEML4 ROM) but this method is universal and should work on all ROM'S and all variants of GN2 and also GN3 S4 and S3.
For carrier locked devices make sure you have an unlocked bootloader.
Beware, this procedure will trip your knox flag and your warranty will be void.
But as far as I know there is no way of rooting without tripping Knox on ML4 or later ROM's.
What you will need
1. ODIN 3.09/3.07
2. Custom recovery for your device(Philz,TWRP,CWM)
PROCEDURE
1. Firstly download Odin (any version will do but 3.09 is recommended).
2. Download the custom recovery which you want to install on your phone.
3. Open Odin on your computer and load the recovery file(with .tar or .tar.md5 extension) under PDA/AP tab on Odin.
(Make sure you don't mess with any other button on Odin.
Make sure re-partition is unchecked.
Make sure Auto Reboot and F.reset time boxes are checked.)
4. Put your phone into download mode(Volume down+home+power key) and click start on Odin.
In under 10seconds you will see a reset message on Odin.
5.Now,as soon as you see your reset message on Odin hold volume Up+Power+Lock button to boot into recovery.
(If you allow the phone to boot to system normally then the recovery which you just flashed would be overwritten by the stock recovery.
So make sure you don't let it boot to system)
Update: This can also be done by unchecking Auto reboot on odin.
6. Now,once you have booted to the recovery you just flashed,go and take a complete Nandroid backup of your current ROM and also backup your efs partition.
7. Next wipe everything from the recovery i.e /system, /data /dalvikcache /cache /preload.If you have philz recovery just go to wipe data factory reset and select clean and install a new ROM.
Tada..!! Now you have successfully removed Knox from your device and you can flash a custom ROM zip.( DN3 ROM for example)
The above process takes less than half an hour and you're done.
Also, those who want to stay close to stock, you can flash DN3 ROM.
Forget your Knoxed stock ROM and the painstaking rooting of the stock ROM.
Download links not attached here. They can easily be found on Google.

Lock = power button
Cwm is permanently because after that you wiped everything in the factory wipe, also your old recovery.

If the rom is pre- rooted you don't have to root it again otherwise it can easily be rooted by flashing cf root t03 with odin3.09.

Tell me your build no. I can figure out the bootloader version from that.
And you can have this app to check your bootloader version.

Why is that? Is it locked in the kernel or so?
I have a c3 bootloader from the larest stock rom , does that mean that I can not flash any rom in this forum?

See you will have wifi issues if you want to use 4.3 based roms but dont want to upgrade your bootloader.
That means if you have DMG1 or older bootloader(4.1.2 bootloader) you will have to flash wifi patch.
Otherwise on MJ5 and later you are fine.

Going to try this method now just downloading DM3 and twrp 2.70 i need to back up efs and make a nandroid backup then set to go will post my results here.
How am i suppose to backup my efs if you don't actually root the device as efs backup requires root? Can i root the latest 4.3 rom eaisly.
