Just to confirm, with a rooted GS4 on AT&T, Titanium Backup can be used to "freeze" AT&T Software update to block all OTA notifications and installs. Is that correct?
Yea, I believe all you need to freeze is at&t software update and FWUgrade. Thats what I did.

I have a stock (running 12B) rooted Verizon LG G2 and I'm very sure I don't want 4.4.2 on it. I don't see any "FOTA"-type app names in Titanium Backup. Is there a way to keep the phone from downloading or prompting to install OTA updates?
There is a Verizon "hidden menu" app, but I haven't figured out how to access it. It doesn't open using the 3845#*980# dial code that I found in a few places on the web. Maybe there's another way to access this? For some phone versions OTA can apparently be disabled via a carrier-specific hidden menu.
search software update
Used titanium backup to search for an app called "software update muc" and freeze that. As far as I know that should prevent the phone from nagging you about the update or downloading it.
I just started to receive messages yesterday that AT&T is pushing an update to my phone. I don't want to install it because I don't know how it will affect my root status. I'm still on stock ROM, but rooted and de-bloated. Anyone know if this is safe to install? Has anyone with root accepted it?
Silently got this update pushed to mu phone because I forgot to freeze software updater in Tibu. Luckily the update failed. I do not know if it was because I had done the v15 fixes mod/pack, or because of root, but I got lucky.
I would not update period, until somethind is released to keep, or reroot. If I am not mistaken, updates have a kernel in them, so it would over write the engineer kernel.
My bet is ATT did something to block flashing the kernel back.
Good call, I'd better not update. I connected WiFi and it just downloaded the whole package and kept on my bar asking me to update. I just froze the AT&T Software Update too, all better.
It's the pg1 update and the engboot kernel still works for root.

Ok so my Verizon S5 is running on Kitkat using the NI2 firmware and rooted using the towelroot method - flashing the NCG, rooting and reflashing the NI2.
The phone keeps wanting to take the OTA and my son keeps hitting accept forcing me to reflash about once a month.
Haven't really researched this too much as she's happy with the phone, but I would like for the sake of my sanity and wifi tethering to update this phone to the most recent firmware possible and keep root. Also getting tired of the annoying update notifications.
Would like to keep a stock ROM as I have had some issues with custom ROMS.
I'm sure someone can point me in the direction of an already established thread.
Thanks.
You could disable the system update app and that will stop you from getting the update notification. I used titanium backup to freeze it

I would recommend updating to marshmallow (PF4) if you have the 15xxxx eMMC and can unlock your bootloader.
I just upgraded from KitKat over the weekend and a bunch of my issues with my phone (lots of Force Closes) were resolved.
Follow this excellent guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ver...ewbies-guide-to-install-pb1-rom-root-t3481826
Either way, whether you choose to update or not, you should use Titanium Backup to freeze SDM 1.0 (according to guides. But showed up as "System Updates 1.0" (the one with the icon) on my phone with Marshmallow). That will block the OTA installer/notifier.

Seconded. I followed this guide step by step and was able to update my phone as well.
Hello,
My S4 is running 5.01 and I had root (SuperSU) and Flashfire.
I wanted to receive the OTA security updates, but because my phone was rooted, I thought this was the cause.
So I went into SuperSu and selected unroot phone and uninstalled Supersu and Flashfire.
I went to the about - updates to receive the latest updates and the phone rebooted saying the updates failed.
Reading the forums threads, am I screwed? or is there still a way to bring the phone back to stock so I can get the latest updates for it while running 5.01?
Did you remove or freeze any of the at&t apps?

Hello,
I did not not freeze or remove any of the AT&T Bloatware.
When I boot the phone up, it still shows the custom unlocked icon. I presume this is why the OTA updates are failing.
I believe the fact that the phone shows the "unlocked" icon is causing the problem.
Have you tried using kies or smartswitch to perform an upgrade or recovery?
Unfortunately, I don't have an i337 to help you further.

Appears the ATT model does not allow for recovery. SmartSwitch of Kies just allows for data backup and restore.
Does anyone know how to block OTA Updates on AT&T LG V20 H910. What apps do I Need to freeze or Delete. Please help I rooted my device using Dirty Santa and am afraid if I get an update I will be stuck in a twrp bootloop or worse. Thanks for any help.
I paid for titanium backup and froze the FOTA 7.0 Update app. Worked for me

I have an AT&T V20 and I froze the "Software Update" app using Titanium. The message went away about the update
Not sure if AT&T has the Activate device - update profile - update prl option like Sprint has - but if you feeeze software update you lose those options.
The fota update is the only one I have frozen after realizing the above.
If you are getting nagged about installing an update - you most likely have an update downloaded to your internal storage that could cause a bootloop. Use a root explorer to delete the misc and fota folders.
I used to do this on sprint sammy phones and it worked on my tmo phone.
Find and remove or delete the update.zip from /cache directory.
I selected the update notification from notifications and then selected to install it. See the attached. It said rebooting. It won't reboot because the necessary file is gone. Wait 10 seconds and touch the recents home key and close the window. Done!
I rebooted the phone and no nag.
If att uses multiple files, then this won't work. If it is just an update.zip, then it will.

Nope we don't have that. I have frozen Software Update and haven't been bugged since. We don't have 'FOTA Update' on AT&T
