I've found that stock 1.3 rooted is a lot smoother in scrolling animations and such... Will CM7 ever attain this smoothness? Yes, i have tried both overclocked at 1.2-1.3 ghz
What version of CM7? Was it an SD card install?
Sent from my LG Optimus V using Tapatalk
I've noticed the opposite, as long as cm7 doesn't have too many apps installed.

What sd card where you using? Not all are made the same.
I've used 7.0.3, 7.1RC1, and nightlies between around 140-165. All emmc
I don't deal with stock so can't tell how smoothness it is but it's a good sign.
If you like rooted stock ROM then go ahead and use it.
I like CM7, but I like the smoothness of stock. The bad thing is the missing features
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
I have the same problem. My theory is that CM7 is just missing hardware acceleration on the nook at this time (I think I remember reading this somewhere). Maybe a driver issue?
I thought they had that worked out in the first stable release? Maybe that was just video acceleration
Sent from my SCH-I500 using XDA App
Video is fixed, but that my be a different part of the driver.
(This is entirely speculation on my part, based on my somewhat sporadic - and decidedly incomplete - knowlage.) My guess: there are 3 parts to the video "card" driver. 2D hardware, 3D hardware, and coprocessor functions. When they fixed video, they probably got the coprocessor functions working, but not the 2D or 3D hardware.
There is a good chance I am wrong, so correct me if you know.
On a side note, why cant CM7 use the video driver from the stock FW? It's still a Linux kernel underneath so shouldn't the drivers work, or am I missing something completely?
That makes some sense, but games(at least angry birds haha) work okay... So I dont know.
On using the kernel from stock: they probably can't use the stock kernel, because stock is based on Froyo, and CM7 is Gingerbread

Almost none of the stock rom is open source. I'm pretty sure the stock video driver was never released.

I have found CM7 to be much smoother than stock. It probably just depends on your set up.

I just installed 203, and its definitely faster. its nice to be using cm7 again. I missed the status bar. Its quite a bit smoother than the last time I used it. I can also see all apps in the market now, which is sooo nice
Everything is running great, except for the YouTube app. It isn't working for me on nightly 202 or 203
Can you post a link to this V6 super charger script?

It's pretty advanced, just so you know.
...I'm truly bummed out about the options.
My KF will arrive in 2 days and I'm formulating my gameplan... Initially I was certain that I'd be able to run ICS, but the progress seems to have slowed on the Hardware Acceleration front.
I've read through all of the "Which rom should I flash?" threads... and it looks like any ICS-based rom is out for me. That being said, I know I still have some options given these requirements :
1) Hardware Acceleration - No Netflix is a dealbreaker.
2) Attractive interface
3) Access to as many of the Amazon stock bits as possible.
4) If possible, I want a rom/launcher optimized for a tablet.
I know that I can flash MoDaCo and load the ICS launcher (or any other 3rd-party launcher) and achieve something suitable... but everything I've seen so far just looks like a blown-up smartphone interface.
What about CM7? Are there any launchers that looks like Honeycomb or tablet ICS? I'm an occasional MIUI user with my DX, but I'm only seeing 4.0 MIUI for the Kindle Fire... Are there any MIUI roms with hardware acceleration?
I'm still guessing that MoDaCo + Launcher is my safest bet until CM9 achieves hardware acceleration... but I'd love to hear some suggestions.
Thanks folks!

What exactly does lack of hardware acceleration limit? Is it just streaming video, or is there more?
Also, how close is the community to developing a kernel that supports HW acceleration? I hope to have my Kindle rooted soon and I'm struggling with the same decision.

Hey, sorry to hit you up again... But I've got a question about the Amazon App Store on your rom. It is filtering apps that would normally be compatible on the stock rom. Any idea why this is? Does the app store not recognize a CM7 kindle?
Update: Tried side-loading the apk from another device... Installs, but it says Not compatible with this device. Request a refund... but the app is definitely compatible with the Kindle because I played it before I left stock. Any ideas?
Hi All,
Kinda noobish post but there's lots of different ROMs out there for the Lenovo Ideapad K1 from ICS to JB with CM9 / CM10 & AOSP.
Just wanted to get peoples opinions on which is the most stable? Which offers the greatest functionality?
Which would be best for the average joe user?
Thanks in advance for the advice!
I'm using CM1 with my K1. Any other romes were unstable and something was always crashing. Also I am getting better battery life with CM10

Hope this helps, Dev

I really like Krook1's CWM 6.1 port, but for some reason that I just cannot for the life of me determine, I suddenly lose "Music, video, games, & other media through the speaker, and nothing restores it except a tablet reset and installing AOSP (where it all works). I can then go back to CWM 6.1, but within a day or two I lose sound through speaker again. Funny thing is, I never lose Notification or Alarm sound.
Obviously something is amiss on MY tab, but I sure can't figure it out, so I'm on AOSP...

As far as I tested all are working except 3g.
I can see my 3g network on notification bar only if I turn-on WiFi .
Turning WiFi on caused 3g to stop(I can see on notification ).
I am missing something to turn on 3g ...
I did try v6.1 just now but it didn't help.
Is there any way to turn on 3g other than from settings-> data usage -> mobile data
Thanks again for this ROM . I really enjoying my jelly..

The Medion Lifetab P9516 is a K1 clone sold by Aldi in Europe
We, @ w-w-w.avi-plus.com, have patched the very good rom images from Krook1 so that the CM10 JB v6 and V6.1 are running
now with the MEDION ID. Thanks a million to Krook for that outstanding dev.
V6.1 is really a must have. It resolves the SOD screen-of death issue with Wifi OFF when in standby and
the general experience with the tablet is much better : fast scrolling, pictures updated faster, wifi quick connect ...
Last but not least, the wifi thethering is available.

The CM10 seems to be the most stable and fewest missing features. I used khanning AOSP for afew weeks and then swtiched to the cm10 6.1.2 by krook1. Both of these work great.
K1 CM 10 6.1.2
I noticed some distortion in the video presentation on YouTube and also in the game shipwrecked in CM10. Both CM10 version 4.1.2 and JB AOSP run extremely well on a Idea pad K1. This is of course my own observation.

Is it better now? Does it make sense in my situation to switch at all?

I figured I would start a thread since I couldn't find one devoted to posting our personal experiences with ROMs for our Kindles.
I have tried 3 separate roms out thus far.
CM 10.1 (JB 4.2.2)
This was my first dive into custom roms for my first gen Kindle Fire, and it was a pretty easy transition. Really enjoyed freeing up the device by not having to have the stock Kindle firmware. Apps ran far more quickly and smoothly. After using this for a while I yearned for something faster/smoother. (probably need to get myself a higher powered device to improve on that). Somewhat missed the lack of an Amazon Video app. It's too bad Amazon has not yet developed an app for other Android devices that we can install. A minor issue (with all roms) seems to be the boot animation. It starts out stretched and in the upper right region of the screen at first and then corrects itself maybe 10 seconds later and is centered. Not a big deal of course. The only drawback for me personally with this one is CM's lack of customization.
JB 4.3 Barebones
I had read that JB 4.3 ran a bit quicker (and used more battery) than 4.2.2. I found this to be the case. Especially when using an app like Flipboard this is apparent. The boot time seemed to be a bit longer than CM 10.1, but that could very well be my perception. I did find that the build I was on seemed to give me issues on restarts. I'd restart and icons would be missing and the icon themes I was using with Apex would have to be reset. Mild annoyance that I didn't enjoy dealing with. Overall I was mildly satisfied and preferred CM 10.1 to the specific (early) JB 4.3 that I was using, despite the fact that CM ran slower.
AOKP (JB 4.2.2)
Just installed this one tonight. Coming into this, I was already a big fan of AOKP 4.2.2 as its my daily driver on my Droid Razr M. Love AOKPs customization. Anything beyond AOKP level customization is overkill for my taste. AOKP just has everything I'd need in that department. I did notice that I feel like I'm back to CM 10.1 speed which I may or may not settle on. A minor issue I found was the screen rotation glitch (which I have heard is found in few different ROMs.) It's nothing too major, but it may be enough of a nuisance to get me to switch in the future. We'll see. I do prefer AOKP 4.2.2 over CM 10.1 strictly due to AOKPs level of customization. If you are simply looking for a ROM beyond stock and not necessarily looking for great options and customization, I'd say go with CM 10.1 (If you don't have your heart set on JB 4.3, that is). But my personal favorite of the 3 would have to be AOKP. I have not used this long enough to properly test the battery life compared to CM 10.1.
I hope this helps any noobs like me who are giving flashing roms a thought. Would love to hear what you all are finding for the best speed and battery life. I'll post any updates for roms that I try in the future.
Summary:
Best Battery - CM 10.1
Best Speed - JB 4.3 Barebones
Best Customization - AOKP 4.2.2

Well just as you mention it, BAM! That's exactly what I'm experiencing now with AOKP 4.3. Lots of browser crashes and keyboard issues where it will not pop up. Rom is still a decent bit quick, but I may be looking to downgrade from JB 4.3 to something that won't have minor issues such as browser crashing. Need a good daily driver with good speed and battery life. AOKP 4.2.2 didn't have the browser crashing.

I've had my kf for about 3 months and while i haven't flashed them all i have flashed lots of them.
Unfortunately, i haven't found any rom either with or without gapps that have the low memory/ram issue.
I have done lots of searching an just plain tinkering with everything from freezing everything possible in stock roms to only having 2 user apps installed, i.e. dolphin browser and adobe flash player.
The only thing i really want to do is to be able to let my grandson and nefews/nieces watch cartoons on the net, and maybe some simple type kids games. (This way they have their own and dont mess with mine lol)
The games I've found and installed and they work fine, but the memory on this thing is just not capable of even rudimentary multitasking.
Its a damn shame too, because just an extra 50 - 100 mb of ram would make the difference.
Wish i knew how to dev a kernel id look at the big memory kernels on the gnex and see if he same principles could be applied.
