Swipe to call? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Is it just me or does this version of Touchwiz not have the option to swipe right to call a contact? I can swipe left to message someone but no swipe right. Kinda disappointing cuz I used that particular feature extremely often with my S3 and Note 2...

It's definitely there. Make sure you're swiping on the contact name and not their profile picture.

Well damn. I was used to swiping from anywhere on the other phones. You guys are right though, its there. Thanks for the quick responses!

You could start by posting in the right section.
Then add a link to the feature you're requesting.

Im not a dev so i cant do it but here are some possible work arounds. You could assign take screenshot to one of the gestures in Apex Launcher so pinching in or two finger swipe would do it. Or I have it assigned in my navbar ring (i think most JB ROMS have this) its close to a gesture I just swipe up from the navbar and it takes a screen cap. Hope that at least gives you something similar until you can work out a real port.

Thanks for actually replying with helpful information! I'm new to xda sorta so when it comes to certain things I am completely lost, as I'll try your work around method! Still wondering if a port is possible

Not sure our phones are set up to constantly scan for gestures.

[Q] Gallery through Camera

Call me an idiot..... but how do i access the Gallery app through the Camera app. I have to back out and launch the Gallery app?
I'm rooted running 4.2.1.
Thanks!
You swipe to the right

Doesn't work that way for me...only works swiping from right to left.
Either way, its rather un-intuitive. Most casual users wouldnt know this gesture and even then, it sometimes brings up the settings circle if you swipe at a bad angle.
Dang i really am an idiot..... Thanks guys!
Swiping right or left seems to work on my N4. Was relieved when I found this one out, as coming out of the camera app then going into the gallery app seemed very long winded.
When I bought my Nexus 7 it came with the instruction manual as an ebook, but the N4 didn't come with one (unless I havent found it yet).

Anyone else's lock screen do this?

So I have preview messages in lock screen and status bar checked on. Why is it that when I click on the message in my lock screen this blank box appears that I can't do anything with? Never had so many questions about a phone considering I get so many a year. I've attached a picture for reference.

It's a built in function. For instance, once you click on the text, you swipe in the box below and your phone goes right to the text.

From what I've been able to tell, the swipe on that lock screen is actually a widget. The box that sometimes appears is the area where the swipe trail can be triggered.
Swipe down on the message notification, then you can click on the text message notification on the lockscreen.

that helps, although I dont see the point in bringing the box up. Not like it really matters where you swipe as it will unlock.

Its no unlocking the phone by swiping the box down. Its "enabling" the lockscreen text messaging widget that google implemented in 4.2, because by default samsung overrode the aosp lockscreen with its swip from anywhere.

So does that mean there's no way to get rid of this box that pops up?

That is correct, there is no way.
I guess it's been awhile since I used my s3 and it's just something I will get used to.
very simple to get rid of that box...... but it requires using a different messaging app that is the only way right now until roms are built

[Q] txtx messages

Hello all. When typing a txt msg every time I want a space I have to double tap the space button to start a new word. Is there a way to disable this. I'm using 3x4 keyboard on predictive. I noticed if I just type hello and wait 2 seconds the line goes under the word and when I hit space once its fine. But when typing fast I have to double tap the space otherwise its just coming up as one word. I'm unable to find a setting to turn that off.. Never had this on the s3. Really annoying!!!
Please help
Dude, as simple as it is get another keyboard, or check your current keyboard settings.

Is this possible? Nav buttons in notifications tray?

I've seen the apps and edits to remove or replace the navigate buttons (home, back, recent apps) or even move them to the side... But what about moving them entirely to the notifications tray? Is this a bad idea?
For the videos and apps that remove the tray, there could be a hot corner or gesture to bring it back up. Should I have patented this idea before posting?

That's called tablet ui.

Patent it or not, Apple would still steal it.

Tablet UI would bring it to the statusbar. Not the notification area.
To the OP: this would be bad for accessibility. Imagine using an app that requires you to double press back to exit. You would neet to pull down the notification area twice... just to close an app.

Fullscreen app gives you two hot corners, replacing the back/home, but I found I kept accidently hitting the corners within other apps or surfing, no matter whether I put them top or bottom. I ended up using Pie Control app, customised with Nav buttons to solve the problem. LOVE the huge screen via fullscreen.

Wow sorry for my late reply everybody. Thank you for you feedback. I haven't looked at tablet ui but I will. I have installed GMDs auto hide nag buttons. I like it. Sometimes. One thing I do not like is that the menu button for apps like Chrome are automatically moved to the navbar. I know I can turn it off but the menu button is just gone. Not a huge deal but I also don't like how it is sometimes less responsive than the stock navbar. Either way, I'm still shopping.

You should try AOKP rom which you can toggle phablet and tablet UI, I've been using this feature since 4.1.
As for in app menu button, there is in option called "Show menu UI overflow" in the rom to enable it.
