Hi,
I have been experementing with my SGS4 and my Dlink DIR-655 router (used as access point). I find the problem comes from WPA with AES. Changing settings to TKIP only, and everything works just fine. Only problem is my computer don't get n speed using TKIP. Guess the Dlink is ready for the dustbin now. Have tried several firmwares for the router, all with the same problem. If the fault lays with Dlink or Samsung I don't know, but the S4 is the first to have these problems.

Yeah, have the same issue here. It's annoying cause I have to keep using data plan even after I get home.
I confirm the same problem with a Samsung S4 and a D-LINK DIR-855.
Setting the cypher type to "TKIP" solves it for Samsung but it breaks it for an older Sony laptop.
Luckily DIR-855 is a dual-AP so I could configure the 2.4GHz band with TKIP only while keeping "TKIP+AES" on the 5GHz band.
Samsung should solve the problem. Spent the evening debugging this
Well at least I can stop banging my head on the wall, same problem with a DIR-655. The router keeps locking up, even on a wired connection I can't get anywhere until I turn off the wifi on the GS4.

You can also use the guest zone on your 855 to solve that problem. Then you can keep your 5GHz band on AES+TKIP

Nice. Thanks for the suggestion
I've never used the guest zones but they work well with TKIP albeit at only 54Mbps.
Also enabled routing between zones so I can access other devices on the internal network.
DIR-855 is such a versatile router.
problem but with a motorolla AP300
i also have a wifi connection problem but with a motorolla AP300 running through a RFS4000 enterprise wireless controller.
can connect to other networks with out issue.
this is the error report from the router.

thank you for this. I have a DLINK ADSL Router and I am having endless issues. I thought it was my router, but now I know its my i9500.
Will a software update resolve this?
Having the same issues -- with Dlink DIR-655
Making some changes mentioned here got everything working well on the phone but obviously ended up slowing down overall performance for other devices (i.e. Apple TV) --- but the idea to use a guest zone (which can also be set to route between zones) --- was a great one, now the phone is working great while still keeping the same performance speeds on the other devices.
May need to get a new router eventually -- hopefully there will be updates to the S4 if that's what's causing the issue, not sure Dlink will release new firmware if it's on their end -- but in the meantime this is a good fix!

When you connect the laptop it "remembers" the settings used, and probably you just need to change from AES to TKIP in the security settings for the WiFi connection. Same happened to my daughter's computer.

I've got a dlink 655, and switching router to g mode only does fix it for me aswell, but turns down speed on all other wireless devices (cause I change it from n mode to g mode - n being the fastest). Is there any way I can have my Galaxy S4 receiving g mode and all my other devices receiving n mode? Don't want to turn down speed on everything just to be able to get wifi on my GS4.......
GS4 doesn't like the dlink's n mode i guess
Never had similar problems with other devices.

Thanks, you're right. I have removed the network and re-added it but TKIP limits it to 54Mbps. My laptop has a 802.11n card. I use the guest AP for S4 and the normal AP with AES and TKIP for the laptop. Everything works well
CIK Telecom and Belkin!! No Connection!
I use "CIK Telecom's" internet and all my devices connect fine to the network (galaxy note 2, s3, MacBooks, HP laptops).
Its just my i9500 that doesn't want to connect at all!! It gets stuck at "Acquiring IP Address".
The message keeps appearing and disappearing every 20-30 secs or so.. I cannot connect at all!!
I use a Belkin router!
I have no idea how to play with the settings on the router itself!
Do you know what do I need to do to get wifi up and running on my s4?? I don't know why every other device works except this one!!!!
The s4 till now isn't working out so well...
I miss my Note 2!!!
Please help... I cannot always use my data plan!!
Thanks in advance!
Tanks

Thanks bro, I have exactly the same problem!!!!!
I was just about to send my S4 for repair. I had no problem with S3
Same problem with Galaxy S4 [i9505] with D-Link DIR-655
Hi,
I have also the same problem, that my Samsung Galaxy S4 has no good connection with my D-Link DIR-655 router. It disconnects
all the time or no connection at all.
With my 'old' HTC One X, I had no problem with connection with D-Link DIR-655.
Strange thing is, that by other people (UPC Horizon Box, TP-Link Router) there is NO problem at all with connection to WiFi with S4.
Frustrating with no connection, I bought a new router from TP Link [TL-WR1043 ND] , and I experience know no problem with my Galaxy S4!
It all seems to be 4.2 issue, not sgs4 specific. Here is Google code thread.

have u checked if your router is sending/recieving B and G signals.
u usually have an option to have just N, B, G or all the signals running

Xperia does not support Draft N. Only B & G Standards. Do what Ganondolf suggested or regret your purchase.

You need to create a "guest" connection. This means your router has to send out two signals. One for your primary users, and one for your guests. Log into your router, new routers should have a guest mode. Enable it, give it a name, assign a pw, and your phone should recognize.
all hope is gone!
i dont think there is a solution to this problem, i confirmed that my router mode is set to B G N, and my phone does not detect the network, however when i set the router to G, it works with the x1. i called belkin and they said that the frequency of the modem is too high for to phone and told me to set the modem to G, however i refused. I bought an N router for a reason for Gods sake. If i was going to set it to G, might as well saved some money and purchased a G router. SAD! looks like nothing can be done.
i have no idea how to do the guest mode, will that work tho?
Which Belkin model do you have?
Most are supported by DD-WRT (alternative, open source firmware) A lot of problems in OEM firmware are solved through the use of DD-WRT, as it offers more options and stability (such as max simultaneous connections for linksys routers)
To check if your router is supported: http://www.dd-wrt.com/dd-wrtv3/dd-wrt/hardware.html
try disable extensions/turbo mode etc, this helps alot on dlink routers
and leave b,g,n on, check if you can change the channels they are running on etc

No such problem exist with my draft n d-link router?
I doubt that you must switch to G only in order for X1 to connect
In terms of "FREQUENCY" they mentioned, mainly there are two types of settings you can mess with
More advanced draft N router has two major different frequencies - 2.4 Ghz, or 5 Ghz. And if you router is using 5Ghz, then X1 obvious can't connect to the router coz 5Ghz requires the latest draft n technology. However there should always be settings where you can just switch it back to 2.4 Ghz. Personally 2.4 and 5 Ghz doesn't make much difference unless you have 20 wiresless devices all using 2.4 Ghz at home.
Another type of "frequencies" are sometimes called "channels" ... e.g. you will see some wireless hotspot are on CH1, CH2, .... and it should go all the way up to CH 13. These channels operate at frequencies very close to the major frequency, e.g. CH1 = 2.412, CH2=2.417, ... , CH13=2.472. However it has been reported and personally tested that X1 seems to have problems with channels higher than 11.
This isn't a surprising problem because these high channels are designed for 108Mbps wireless adapter and clearly X1 isn't capable of such high speed.
(amusement at "Firefall!": I don't think it's necessary to "regret" purchasing X1 just because it doesn't support draft N? Have you tried using high performance in WIFI settings and realize how fast the battery runs out? How long do you think the battery will last if they place a draft N WIFI chipset into the device? And what sort of HD videos are you planning to watch on your phone that requires draft N speed of 300 Mbps?)
Hence, you should try setting your router to 2.4Ghz mode (if you are currently on 5Ghz) and change it to channels below 11. And your X1 should be able to connect to the router
I have my X1i running with my Belkin N1 Vision Router working perfectly. Check your hardware son .
I have the Belkin N+ router...
http://www.gooddvdstuff.com/news/files.php?file=belkin__109732273.jpg
And my Xperia does not connect to the router unless I create a "guest" mode. So I broadcasted a secondary guest connection and it works.

not sure what to say bud, maybe changing from 5ghz to 2.5ghz might work if u have a option but like u said if your pc is using n then u dont want to go down to g just so your phone connets.
ps. if your pc does not use n (or any other device) u getting a n router is pointless as even if your pc is connecting, its doing it through g not n.
ps2. i always go for netgear routers, seem to work better for me bud
I'm having major troubles with my girlfriends Galaxy Tab 2 10.1 Wifi connection.
At my house it connects perfectly.
At her house, with the Dlink DIR-645 N router it tries to connect. Tries to obtain an IP Address for a while, then says that it can't connect because the signal is too weak. (which it isn't) Full bars.
Many other devices connect to this Wifi flawlessly. (iPhone, Galaxy S III, Galaxy Nexus, Galaxy Tab 10.1, ASUS EEE-PC)
I've tried changing channels in the router settings,
I've tried taking off the security (WPA2)
I've tried renaming the SSID
I've tried adding the connection manually on the tablet. (not connect via scan)
I've tried updating the firmware on the Router and the Tablet.
I've tried a wipe/factory reset on the Tablet.
The only way I can get it to connect is to have it connect with a Static IP Address. If i do this, it'll connect and have internet access for a while. But sooner or later it gets booted. I don't want to set up static Ip address on the her router.
And I'm just confused that this doesn't work. Any suggestions? Should i try a custom rom and hope that it's a software issue?
It's going to be hard to get Samsung service to replace it, because it seems to work fine on some other routers.
May be try to change range of router to 2.4 ghz if it is 5 ghz
Or try a custom rom as cm10

The problem is that the Galaxy Tab 2 doesn't have a 5 GHz radio. If you're using 802.11n in the 2.4 GHz band, it'll work with the GT2 (i.e. channels 13 and below). If you're using 5 GHz channels, then the tablet won't see the AP.

I had the same problem, repeated on two different GS4 phones today. I tried everything possible to figure out what was wrong but couldn't fix the problem. The phones would connect to my wireless router, but would send and receive data only intermittently. Sometimes, resetting the router, or pulling the phone's battery, or going into airplane mode would be the only ways to get the phone to actually send and receive data, but it would only work for 20 seconds - 3 minutes. Every other wireless device and wired device works on this router, except for the GS4. And the GS4s both worked in-store on their wireless network. My guess is that it's a hardware or software compatibility issue with certain routers. Oh and mobile data worked like a charm.
What kind of wireless router do you have?
Maybe you need to pay your internet bill

My S4 has the exact same problem on a DLink 655. Works ok on other networks I have tried but on the DLink it will work for about 20 seconds and then data stops flowing. No other device I have has any issues.
To figure out whether the issues is the SGS4 or the SGS4<>your router you really need to try it from some different locations. The i9100 had tons of issues with D-Link routers so perhaps that's what's happening here. My solution when I had issues with my i9100 was to ditch D-Link forever and move to NetGear and I haven't had a problem since (at least at home).

My router is a DIR-655 as well. Looks like this may be an actual issue with D-Link routers? Anybody having issues with another brand of router?
And if it IS an issue with D-Link, who's at fault for the problem? Samsung or D-Link? My 655 has been the most reliable piece of network equipment I've ever owned. It works with everything, except for a Galaxy S4...this is annoying.

yeah i actually got my phone 2 days ago and right out of the box had this problem, i was on other sites saying that the s3 i900 had alot of those issues on 4.2 and 4.2.1 jellybean.. lots of users reporting that when the upgraded to 4.2 ect they started having those issues.. i hope its a jellybean issue not hardware issue.. i agree with you though i have had my d-link 655 for years and never had an issue till now.. i have my s3 and iphone 5 all running on my dlink just fine S4 not so much..
Same problem here - excelent connection at 150 Mbps with my dlink dir-855, but dies quickly. wifi toggle helps. Tried a lot of settings, fixed ip/dhcp, 2.4 / 5 Ghz and etc - problem persists.
i have TP-LINK router but i drained my battery till phone went off then charged till 100% and no issues so far wifi works fine... just wondering why this problem could appear...
Seems like I've found the solution - in router settings, in firewall section disabled "TCP Endpoint Filtering" (set from "Address Restricted" to "Endpoint Independent"). Have not had any issues since than. But can't actually tell if it puts the network to any risk compared to previous settings.
i have also different problem
everything seems good but i have a big problem with wi fi but
when i try it with s2, it is working
whenever i want to access internet with wi fi on s4, in Wi fi menu, it writes -----> in order

2)saved,secured
3)Obtaining ip adress...
4)failed to obtain ip
5)newtwork disabled becauseinternet connection is low

Samsung galaxy s4 wifi issues
I have the same problem, seems to be a wifi issue with 4.2.2, my router is DIR 655 Dlink, wifi only works if I just connected it then its either slow or disconnects. very frustrating, also I get 3G but its slow.
A family member just got a S4 and is facing the same issue with the DIR655.
I've updated firmware to latest version for my A4 hardware model, version 1.35ww but the problem persists. So I had to bring out another Access Point (TP-Link TL-MR3020)to cater to his needs...
So who should we complain to? the DLink has been serving me faithfully for the past 3 years+, infact the DIR655 was one of the best wireless routers around and I never an issue with any of my wireless toys, until it met the S4...

Can you confirm that this fix works for a lengthy period of time? Is it still working? I thought I had fixed mine once (the phone was working for a while) and then it just stopped transferring data altogether. I think tinkering around with some things can make it better or worse, depending on what it is.

So who should we complain to? the DLink has been serving me faithfully for the past 3 years+, infact the DIR655 was one of the best wireless routers around and I never an issue with any of my wireless toys, until it met the S4...

Same here. I was contemplating replacing my 655 after 6 years of service without ever having to reset it only because it will not pass magic packets from WAN to LAN...at least the A versions don't (I have A2). And this is becoming more of a frequent problem as of late. Every other device connects without issue, even my mom's S2. I'm on WiFi right now on my HTC Vivid...no problems.
Which brings me to this...everybody in this thread with a 655, please list your hardware version and firmware version. It can be found at the top of the router's web interface page.
Mine is..
Hardware Version: A2
Firmware Version: 1.34NA
Sent from my HTC Vivid.

I have to turn wifi back off and on again for my wifi to kick back on. I'll do some more testing on other routers to make sure its not my s4. Hope its my dlink. If so ill get a none dlink router. Frustration as all hell.. I even connected using pin code and still the same any suggestions guys Thanks. Really don't want to return phone. Thanks

i dont know what does that mean but my modem model is
inca IM-205NX
Does your WIFI have SSID broadcast enabled? I've run into issues with some devices when I had that disabled. What about connecting to other access points?

My galaxy s2 is working and also samsung notebook.. but there is a problem in s4..... i really dont know .... what does it cause by?
my wi fi modem's model is "inca IM-205NX" can you google it? i cannot enter a website link on forum because of new user
i have some news i guess i will solve the problem
when i enter my modem surface, i see modem passward.. as i write before, my modem is inca, and security type Wpa/wpa2 psk..
when i change security type from Wpa/wpa2 psk..to non-security, i can access my wi fi connection. i mean if there is no password on modem, i can reach but it can be dangerous, hackers can intrude....
i will change my modem settings until solve wi fi problem and i will notify you
okey the problem has been solved guys....
i have entered my modem's surface and changed Security type from WPA*Wpa2 psk to Wep and restart both devices
Web is not so secure rather than WPA*Wpa2 psk but the important point is that s4 is working with wi fi

This is not a solution. Wep can be cracked in 2 minutes and somebody can style your Internet. Change back to wpa2 psk. Changing to wep isn't the smartest selection

Do you have an option to enter the passcode in hex? Seems I ran across an issue some time in the past where I had to do that. Seemed an odd solution but worked for me at the time.

Try with WPA2 TKIP or even WPA, but no WEP. WPA should work. There seems to be something wrong with your modem. Isn't there any firmware update for it ?

So, you could enter the passcode in hex. There's a small chance this could help. You'd have to do the same on the phone obviously as well. Actually, I just realized I don't have that option on my phone (and old Dinc2) so may not even be an option.

Galaxy S4 WiFi problem too
I dont see why this went to a router issue...?? I am having the same problem with the WiFi on my one day old S4. It is almost like the signal freezes because it still shows I am connected with a strong signal but nothing works. I have never encountered a problem before with any other devices(S2, S3 Note2, multple tablets) and saying that it is a router issue and saying that i have to disable security or get a new router is not a solution!
I have seen this same post on multiple forums and yahoo answers but nothing as far as a real answer to the issue or to what is causing the problem. PS...there are two new S4's in the house and both having the same issue....
I'm having the same problem, Brazilian S4, at my girlfriend's house, I could not connect to Wifi, the modem is a Fiberhome HG110-B.
Same issues here unfortunately. I think it's the router. Wifi at work is fine. Wifi at home has issues. That's a bummer because I love my Amped Wireless Router at home.
Same issue
Hi Guys,
So my S4 is also just a day old, and I am having the same issue, tried everything, only connects when I remove my wifi security(obviously not ideal), I am brand new to Android, jumped ship from Apple .
I dont have then exact model number with me now(at work) but my router is a trendNET something something 335.
All my other devices connect to my wireless without issues accept my S4, it is very annoying, we are still being screwed over by our Mobile Operators in South Africa, hence the fact that my wireless is so important to me..
Thanks for the help!
actually we have to wait for new update... hopefully samsung will solve that problem...
i am now using with low securtiy (wep) but i don have any choice now
My fix
My FIX
Hey dudes and chicks,
I used to have this problem too with my s4. Connecting just a minute or two and after it would just lose connection. At first i thought it had to do with something from the hardware, but i figured that was not the problem since it did have a stable wifi connection at my uni.
So the problem for most of the people is within the router. Here's how i solved it for me. (I have a Sitecom Wireless Media Router 300N WL-350 with 2.4 and 5 ghz, so the steps might differ a bit if you have different router)
-------------------------------------
1. Login to your router
2. Go to the setting for wireless 2.4 (probably radio 1) (For Sitecom go to tab Basic> subtab Wireless 2.4 GHz)
So what i changed here is the 802.11 mode. (there are several modes like: just 802.11b, just 802.11g, just 802.11n, mixed 802.11b and 802.11g, mixed 802.11g and 802.11n ........)
>>> I Put It On: "mixed 802.11g and 802.11n"<<< (it used to be on mixed 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n)
3. Secondly i disabled Auto Channel Scan. This allowed me to select a Wireless Channel (frequency/channel).
>>>I Chose the highest channel ("2.472 GHz - CH13")<<<
4. I used to have the Transmission Rate at the option "best (automatically)"
>>>I changed this to the option: "54" (Mbit/s)<<<
5. I have channel width at the option: "auto 20/40 MHz" (but it always used to be this one)
Furthermore i have the following settings:
> Security mode: "WPA - Personal"
> WPA Mode: "WPA or WPA2"
> Cipher Type: "TKIP and AES"
------------------------------------
Now running stable for more than 6 hours (incl heavy use like youtube and movie streaming from samba server). I believe that step 2, 3 and 4 are the most important ones. If this does not work immediately, try to play a bit with step 3 and 4
Im not that technical but if you have questions feel free to ask.
Help out your fellow Galaxy mate by letting them know whether this worked or not ;-p
Ill also post my fix at this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2253471
Greetings,
ps sorry if i made some grammer mistakes, not my native language
My new galaxy s4 I9500 has been working fine until 2 days ago when the wifi started reconnecting every few seconds. I'm not sure what the problem is and I cannot find a solution for this. I have read the issues with the D-Link routers however I use a Netgear router and all devices except the galaxy s4 can connect fine without any issues. It started happening after my phone automatically updated to version: I9500UBUAMDK, but I am not sure if it has to do with software.
If anyone else is having the same problem or has a solution, please help me through this issue, thanks.
Anyone? It's the only problem I am currently facing with the phone and is a major problem for me as i use Wifi at home all the time. Please help me solve the issue and I'll be so happy!
i have also problem with my dlink 2640b and i found solution for me
you need to go to wierless settings and chosse CHANAL 13
and in option where you can chose wifi speed ( like b only, b and g mixed, only g ) chose G only
after that i don't have any problem with my s4
i also have security off

Thank you for the reply, and yes I have read that this problem is mostly on D-Link routers and that there are many fixes for that, however I am currently using a Netgear router which I haven't heard many people having problems on, so there are not so many fixes out there for that. Thank you for the reply though, I will continue to look for a solution.

Try changing the channel width to 20Mhz. After I did that the reconnecting issue was gone on my D-link router, but as you've read at 54g speeds. I can now stream video to my TV without it stopping. I am contemplating buying a new 802.11ac router to connect at 433Mbps as my D-link is too slow for my broadband now. I hope that helps.

Changing Wifi channel width from 40 MHz to 20 MHz solved wifi dropping and reconnecting problem for me also. I have Asus RT-N16 with latest updates. Also on my SGS4 has latest updates, stock android 4.4.2.
I used Wifi scanner, and there should not be any interference with my Wifi station. I have channel 1 and my neightbour has channel 7 Wifi. Wifi signal is also strong for my router. I was wondering how this can be possible, as any other device had not dropped connections @40 MHz widht, BUT a brand new Galaxy S4 GT-I9506 drops it withing minutes again and again?
