Hi,
I*m running PACrom/stock kernel and I'm trying to make the following work to no avail yet:
I want to share the Internet connection I get on my N7 WiFi wirelessly from the router to my desktop PC via WiFi, Bluetooth or USB.
Although there are lots and lots of different apps regarding tethering/connection sharing on the Playstore, none has worked for me yet.
I tried FoxFi, Wireless Tether and so on, but nothing works. Either the app complains about the N7 being in an "unknown mode" and therefore refuses to work, or I can establish a connection between the device and my PC, but it stops at some poin, not getting an IP adress or similar issues.
Searching for solutions online mostly brings up this issue in regards to an Internet connection established via mobile 3/4G data, which doesn't help me at all.
Basically, my question is whether there's a solution which lets my share my Wi-Fi Internet connection on my Nexus 7 to my desktop PC, I don't care if its via WiFi ( would be my preference, but I don't even know if its possible to create a HotSpot on the N7 my desktop can access while still being connected to the other, Internet providing WiFi connection) Bluetooth or USB, whatever works is fine by me.
Would love to get some helpful advice/successful storys from you guys
Have you tried Proxoid? It's http only, basically a port 80 proxy that passes the http traffic over the phone's data connection via USB cable... I've used it on my Galaxy S3, but haven't tried to use it through the Nexus 7's wifi...

So I bought myself a WiFi dongle (802.11g) so that I could surf the net/pick up emails on my XDA by using a WiFi link to my laptop which is connected to the internet via ADSL. The laptop recognises the WiFi dongle but I can't get a connection between the laptop and the XDA. Both are in open mode with no security (i'll get the system working and then add security). The XDA can find the signal, says it is conencted, and then drops it again. I know it's not a range/power issue as they are right beside each other! Can anyone offer me advice on how to get the two devices talking please?
If you want internet on your XDA then just setup Active Sync via Bluetooth or Wifi. (AS 3.x)

Well I'm slightly further on than I was earlier - I have now managed to 'connect' to my laptop but I still cant 'see' the internet through the XDA. I can surf using bluetooth over Active synh but the range is too small so I want to use WiFi. I've run the internet sharing wizard but still no joy - what do I have to do?
I have had intermittant problems with tethering my laptop via an 8525 since the release of the att2.15 rom. sometimes it would work correctly, sometimes intermittantly, sometimes not at all. After trying numerous combinations of proxies on and off, and various connection settings, I have finaly isolated what i believe to be the problem. When my wifi adaptor is turned on, IE on the laptop appears to prefer to connect to the internet via wifi instead of the usb connection to my hermes device. I do not have an internet connection on the wifi router/hub at my home. Is there a simple explanation for this that one of you network gurus could educate me with? Does anyone else experience this?
There is no broadband access at my residence (rural area) other than satellite or cellular. The wireless router is functioning only as a network for several computers and printers at my home. It is a hassle to lose my tethering connection every time i need to access wifi to print, or get data from another machine.
Any info would be appreciated.
I attached poll because i wondered how often people are using this functionality.
mthomas,
I just flashed up to the 2.15 ROM last night. Internet Sharing would never stay running on my laptop. I had my wireless card active on the laptop as well. It worked fine before I updated the ROM.
Edit:
I turned off my wifi card and still have the problem. After a few minutes of internet sharing, my laptop cannot recognize the the phone.
I'm buying a TV with an ethernet port which has the feature of streaming via the net. Can I tether my phone to my PC and have the TV pull a signal from my PC using my phone as a modem? How would one do this?
Thanks!
this could be done using a pc and internet connection sharing or a cradlepoint router.
however, it will also be a great way to burn so much data usage to get your account suspended, warned or charged for overage.
Ive used massive amounts of data without being warned. In fact,Ive ran bit torrent. There is no way that I have not gone over the limit some month using the phone as my primary internet connection.
Im not entirely sure what the OP is asking, but here is what I know. You can use your phone as an internet connection in several ways. The easiest is using a hack to connect via USB or bluetooth. I have found this to be very unreliable. You can use a third party program to do the same thing as well. I use a program called PDA net which works much more reliably. You can also use hacks or third party programs to connect via wifi.
Your phone will provide a connection similar to slower DSL lines. You can expect 800-1200k downloads and 150-300k downloads (your millage may vary here, but that's what I have gotten in Ohio and Utah)
If you want to connect to an ethernet device there are a few options. You can use programs allow your phone to share over wifi and create an adhoc network. You can also connect your phone to an access point and then configure your network devices default gateways to point to the phone instead of the access point.
Hi, I got a laptop without a wireless card for internet connection. So I've been using my HD2 as a USB wireless device, which gives me internet everywhere. THat very nice, and it works extremely well, however I got a question. WHen at home and at work I would like to connect to the wireless router, and not to my mobile internet, is that possible?
Because even tho i connect without problem to my own router at home, I cant really make my HD2 use that for my computer. Is it even possible?
nope... and that is the whole purpose of a wireless card, to pick up wifi signals from a router
It is possible.
Use ICS Control:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=377047
Setup should be as follows:
public interface: BCMSDDHD1
private interface: RNDISFN1
Connect your HD2 to WiFi network, click "Start ICS" and plug the cable in to your PC. Should work If you have XP, you should kill Active Sync process first.
Thank you, however I'm not sure that I do everything correctly.
There's quite a lot of settings in that pieve of software, is all I have to edit really the public and private interface drop down boxes? Nothing else?
And when connection to wifi, shall i then just minimize ICS controls, go to phone settings and connect to wifi there?
Thank you
What you want is for your phone to connect to the internet through wireless connection, not your phone's data/internet connection?
If so, then it's definitely possible. Not only at home and work, but also at many wifi spots throughout the world. How you go about it depends on some things.
Does your home and/or work wireless router connect straight to the internet (such as a connection from the wireless router to a cable modem, etc.) ? If so, you only need to know how to connect with the wireless router and your phone should default to that connection for internet when your phone's wifi is turned on. You can always turn data connection off when you turn wifi on to make sure it goes through wifi.
If your wireless router does not connect directly to the internet but one of the computers on the router's network does, then you'll have to use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) on that internet enabled computer as posted about above.
I want my phone connected to the wifi router, simple yes. However, then I want my phone to share the internet from the router, with a computer connected to the phone via usb cable.
So my phone will actually work as a wireless usb device, connecting to a wifi router.
WMWiFi Router provides following options on the phone:
1)3G converting to WiFi
2)3G converting to USB
3)3G converting to BlueTooth
4)WiFi converting to USB
5)USB converting to WiFi
So, I recently got a camera that connects to my phone via WiFi to use as viewer. When connected to the WiFi camera, I can't surf the internet. I figured when the phone didn't detect internet connection through the WiFi it would use the mobile/LTE connection for internet. This seems to not be the case. Does anybody know of a way to force using the mobile/LTE connection while the phone thinks it's connected to a WiFi network? Thanks in advance.
Put the wireless camera on a network and get remote access to it or use download booster which should work as a back up internet
Thanks for the suggestion. I can’t put the cam on the network, it doesn’t have an interface. All settings need to be adjusted through the phone. It’s a Xiaomi MiSphere.
Download booster, on the other hand, is worth looking into. I took a hiatus from Android for a while, just got back into it with the GS8 so relearning things.
If I understand your question correctly, the phone connects directly to the camera via WiFi. So as far as the phone can tell, the camera is a router with no internet connection.
I have the same problem.. I need to connect to my car via WiFi without internet connection, but I want to stay online via mobile network. It has worked well on my previous OnePlus 3 with the stock rom, but SGS8+ doesn't support this feature. I have tried to turn on "Keep Mobile data turned on" option in "Developer options", but it isn't helpful. The Mobile Data is on while connected to the WiFi, but the Internet connection doesn't work via Mobile network. Google Chrome and all other apps say, I am offline without the Internet.
Any solution?
Any possible solution for this issue?
