Nexus 4 Front Camera Problem - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
Well I was wondering, when ever I take a picture with the front camera, when it saves the picture is always reflected.
Why is it like that?
Can I disable something so it does not reflect any more.

You mean mirrored? It's actually the display showing a mirror image, pictures come out the way they should, you can go into the effects and mirror it back if you really want.

HDR shutter lag

What is the shutter lag when shooting HDR photos? I get the shutter sound instantly but if I move the camera quickly I get a blurred photo. Is it only me?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 2
HDR is a combination of different photos with different exposures, that's why there is some lag.

I know what HDR is and I know why its slower, I'm asking if its unusually slower for me or if this is normal.

Its normal, I get the same thing..

If you know what it is, then you know the camera is taking at least 3 pictures in a row for it, there would be some lag.

But it feels like its taking more time to take those three pictures than it does to take three individual picture (it'll take more time to process but it shouldn't blur out). Might be some illusion in my head.

Ideally HDR pictures require a tripod to ensure each frame is a perfect match. When you are hand holding a mobile phone each frame will be slightly different, and the end result is similar to any blurred shot where you have moved the camera during exposure.

why is the camera so horrible?

Every picture i take is so washed out. My amaze has a rediculously good camera and it came out 2 years ago
I agree, this camera kind of sucks. I had a HTC Vivid before this phone and it took great photos. Then again, I feel like HTC phones in general take great photos.
The camera is pretty bad for inside photographs but photos that are made with natural lights are pretty good. I also suggest installing the camera mod to improve video and picture quality.

Which Camera Mod? Do you have any link or post to review it?
Thanks.

Read this thread for camera tips and tricks http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2000602.
I have to post edit every single one of my photos using Picasa, otherwise they look washed out. "I am feeling lucky" is usually good enough.
Are you viewing them on the nexus4 screen? It is a very washed out color calibration. You need to get Franco kernel and adjust the colors

Camera seems great on my n4, a country mile better than my evo3d. Are you sure you are taking them properly?

Has the increase in actual quality of that mod ever been proven? For as far as I know, it hasn't.
The pics do look a lil washed out but still good for a phone. If I want better pics I break out the rebel. For on the go, it'll suffice.

My pictures turn out fine?
Uploaded to imgur because XDA image compression reduces the quality.

Edit: I think this is only for videos but ill see thanks for the reminder of what file exactly it was in that link, ill prob make my own camera mod like i did for the amaze

It also improves the quality of images - note the image mem cap change:
"Image Decoding Memory Cap has been doubled from 20mb to 40mb. (Image quality seems to have become slightly better)"

[Q] [New Update] Improve Photo Quality

hi everyone,
is there a new update of tips or tricks in improving Nexus 4's default camera app photos ?
is there a way a paid camera app to way make the Nexus 4's photo quality much like the Htc one X or the iphone 5 ?
Note: I already know about the nexus 4 modified photo hack in increasing its photo file size.

No.
My wife has a HTC One X and I don't think the difference is that great. I think it is more how the N4 displays pics than how it takes pic. I can send a pic I took with my phone to my wife and it looks better on her phone. When she sends me a pic, it doesn't look the same as it does on her phone. Regardless of which camera was used, pics on her phone look more vibrant, while pics on my phone look a little more washed out.

That`s why God created devs who create custom kernels and color controll
The majority of camera quality depends on the hardware in each phone. Megapixel count is useless these days in phones and point and shoots. What matters is the sensor size/quality, ISO levels, shutter speed, etc. Software can only enhance so much of what the hardware will do the bulk of. Unfortunately, these specs typically aren't readily available on phones, normally only the megapixel count is listed.

I found that the way the Nexus displays the pic AS you're taking it is pretty poor quality. Like right after you snap a pic and it shoves that shot aside so you can take another, the quality of that pic seems really poor but when I actually go into Gallery and view the picture, it has crazy-good quality. That threw me off the first few times I took pics with my Nexus. I thought the picture quality was sub-par, because I had taken around a dozen pics at different times before actually viewing them and each time they looked bad. Once I went and viewed them, I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.
I feel like if you need more than 8 megapixels to capture whatever moment you're photographing, then you should be using something more than a cellphone. Most people expect their cellphone to produce profession-grade photographs and I think that's unrealistic. And correct me if I'm wrong, I'm no photographer, but isn't it impossible to even display all of the 8 million pixels taken by the Nexus 4 on the screen, or even a standard 1920x1080 pixel screen? Again, I'm not a professional so I could be wrong, I'm just breaking down the word 'megapixel' and doing the math based on that.
after updating to 4.4.1 the camera seems better.
i went further by installing nexus 5 camera apk. the nexus 5 camera apk in 4.4.1 is about 1mb larger in size than in nexus 4. i have no idea whats the difference, but i am quiet satisfied now. atleast in daytime.. low light is still a no no. i wished they had included IS in nexus 4

Help nexus 7 camera quality terrible

This was taken with my Nexus 7 2nd generation . Front camera is clear and this is my back camera on 5mp.is is completely blurry. Is there a sticker on camera or something giving me quality this bad. It's also makes a clicking noise when switching to camera is that normal

The clicking noise is normal. But the blurry pictures not. Maybe reset the device. And try again.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I don't remember having to remove a sticker from the lense at all. That clicking sound, does it come from the speakers or does it sound like its coming from N7's internals? That doesn't sound normal to me, def. not happening on mine.
I would download a replacement camera app and test that out. If the same thing happens I would guess you have a malfunctioning camera, specifiaclly the focus feature. If the replacement camera app doesnt produce the same issue and it doesn't fix it on the stock camera app then I would guess that the stock camera app isn't communicating with the lense correctly.
Best of luck!
Try flashing a different kernel as that is what bridges hardware and software.
When I take pictures close up. Like inches away the quality is better but from a few feet it's bad. I'll try it once I leave work. Sucks if I need to send it back to Google
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda app-developers app
Sounds like it isn't focusing properly. The clicking sound IS normal, it's the shutter or whatever, but it shouldn't be that loud. It should sound more like a light rattle when tapping near the camera.
In this case, it sounds like the camera's focus lens is broken. When you tap on different parts of the screen, in the camera app, it should focus where you are pointing. Unfortunately I think you should exchange it. This is the first one I've heard with this issue so it isn't common. Perhaps it was dropped and knocked the focus gear out of whack.
No never dropped it. Thing is babied. I'll have to call Google becaus it was bought from play store. This should be a fun experience

Shouldn't be too bad, Google customer support is pretty good IME, though it's an odd experience speaking to Americans as a Brit.
I think I have tried one of the cameras one. They are junk. Love the device but definitely would not use it for taking pictures. I just use my vacate or even my nex 4. These cams on this device are worthless.

Your picture looks as if it's totally out of focus. Try touching the image on the screen of the object you are photographing to make sure you focus on it. Alternatively, just take a picture of a wall so that everything in your picture is equal distance from the camera.

The camera is just a nice toy, not more or less. It´s good enough if you want to shoot some quick pictures of the stuff you´re about to sell at ebay
Btw, every cellphone camera offers a better quality, check this out : http://thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=padhole
One of the more significant updates to the Nexus 7 (2013) is the inclusion of a 5-megapixel camera where previously there was none. Even though camera usage isn’t very optimal on a tablet, it is a nice addition when you just need a simple shot and nothing too fancy.
The camera app brings all the usual capabilities you get in a stock Android camera app, and that includes Photo Sphere, an improved Photo Sphere, in fact. Picture quality is decent enough, but honestly, it’s nothing to get too excited about.
I'm never gonna use the camera. I usually sell all my olf stuff once a new one comes out and this would be a bad thing when it comes to sell it. Something wrong with focus. Working on a return through Google customer service

There is definitely something out of whack with the camera on your N7 FHD! While the camera on this tablet is anything but good, the photo you posted is worse than normal. I agree that using a camera on a tablet is far from idea, my Asus Infinity takes excellent photos!! I'll rarely ever use either camera in the N7 FHD, but if mine was defective then I'd definitely want a replacement device!

uh. u can upload Dropbox picture taken with your phone...
just need to activate your wifi when at home. 2 minutes later all your pictures will be on Dropbox.
tablet is good for documents to send immediately. scan fax... whatever.

My N7's rear cam also needs to focus twice (or more) before it snaps a good focused photo.
I'm running a custom kernel and ROM- but they both originate from Google source-code, so it may well be a software issue?
Once it gets focus lock- it seems to drift off very quickly, almost like it's too sensitive to very small movements of the tablet.
Would be nice to have a manual focus override...
Didn't even try the camera prior to reading this thread
But indeed, the images are grainy. They are "okay" when being watched in a smaller size but at 100% you can surely see blocky stuff.
Made two test shots (here and here). Am never going to use the camera anyway so no biggie for me
Looks better then mine did. I got a replacement and this one is better. Not gonna use it just h Los for resell value that Everything works

Which is better camera? Stock or Google?

Here's my camera test. Phone was stationary. No touch to focus. Just clicked to take picture. What do you think?
Think its stockkkk...
because it has got better focus.
and modded as the device camera
Stock had a little better colors
It's a tough call. I will say that I like the Google ui a little better. When I touch to focus it seemed to automatically adjust the right amount of light. Where stock I have to manually adjust slowing me down. But I didn't use focus on these just snapped them.
Can you try a better Camera? That's what I use and I usually get the best pictures with no additional effort.

I'm a fan of Open Camera, but it's sluggish on my Moto X 2013.
