Lawsuit between HTC & Nokia? - One (M7) General

This is news to me, but I received this email regarding my order for a HTC One.
Hi [redacted - me!],
Unfortunately I was provided with the incorrect information by our supplier last week!
I have just spoken to a member of management at Expansys (our supplier) and unfortunately been informed that due to a lawsuit between HTC and Nokia, there is currently a hold on this device. Expansys are a direct client of HTC, meaning they have not been provided with any more stock and currently struggling to re-stock on this device. Expansys will find out on the 7th May whether they will be stocking more of this device.
In the meantime I have place an order with Dabs, within 24 hours they will confirm delivery date. Should everything run smooth with Dabs.com, I will cancel our order with Expansys.
I will keep you posted [redacted - me!] and really sorry about this delay.
Regards,
[redacted - customer service chap(ess)]

Has anyone else heard of news regarding a HTC/Nokia lawsuit?
I want my One, damnit!
EDIT: Dabs.com don't have any stock, either.

As far as I know HTC has no dog in this fight, it's a company that supply a component exclusively to Nokia decided to sell it to HTC ,so no Nokia won't be dum to sue HTC .

You could have just Googled it instead of making a new thread... There are both threads on this forum as well as numerous tech sites that covered it.

I don't think the other threads mention that a supplier has stated that they cannot get the One because of the lawsuit. It is apparently having an impact on supplies.
But I agree it would have been better placed in the other xda thread.

I'm pretty sure the court dismissed the case so it shouldn't pose an issue for HTC

No, the court issued an injunction that keeps HTC from getting the microphone chip for 6 months. It was unclear from the press reports if HTC could continue building phones with their existing stock.

There is no delay anymore. HTC can still make phones with the existing stock of chips and have already received an alternative chip for it. Read it on engadget or something

I did read it. I have not seen stated the number of chips that HTC had when the injunction was issued.
As to alternate chips, I have read that HTC was studying the issue, not that they have found a solution.

About what? You quoted two lines.

And what does this have to do with the HTC ONE????
Do not tell me that it has to deal with HTC.

Not sure exactly what you mean. The HTC Ones currently shipped used a microphone chip designed exclusively for Nokia products, with a 14 month clause saying it could not be sold to other manufacturers. A Netherlands judge just issued a worldwide injunction preventing HTC from using the microphone chip in their phones, at least for the next 6 months of time remaining in that exclusivity clause.

Gotcha...

Quote from HTC on the 2.1 Update

Just been talking to HTC Support about a problem with my Hero. I also asked them about the 2.1 update and she said (and I quote) '...the 2.1 update will be an over the air update which will be for T-Mobile and unbranded Hero's and will start on 30th April. Other operators will follow later. This is for the UK, other countries will have different release dates...'
So guys, another one to add to the mix.
Now don't start flaming me for posting this and don't acuse me of lying - I am merely passing on what HTC told me today.
well I guess its better news this time since its promised date is getting shorter each time they mention it (ie its not like next month or whatever they keep saying).
Not hold my breath anyway - bit the bullet a couple of weeks ago and installed villianRom 5.2 - seems to work well with a few glitch but nothing to cry home about.
I won't accuse you of lying but nothing will be set in stone until an official date is confirmed in a press release.
So I hope its true, but chances are it will get hit my more delays.

[Q] How many Nexus One are there in the world?

this is just a curiosity...
today Samsung has announced to have rich 10 Million Samsung galaxy S sold in 2010... anyone knows how many N1 have been sold from its launch day?
[BOARD CLEANUP] WARNING - DO *NOT* POST QUESTIONS IN THIS FORUM - only tips/info/etc.
Seriously dude...
Well, there are at least 11579 Nexus One devices running CM...
In all seriousness though, there were reports that Google sold 135000 in 74 days since its launch.
So, pulling some numbers out of my arse and applying some dodgy logic, I'd say no more than a million in a year since its launch world wide.

The Nexus one was never meant to sell millions of units.
If that would have been the case, do you think that the biggest advertisement company in the world would have any problem in advertising (sigh) their own phone?
The nexus1 is a developers phone, for the common public htc has the desire
Guys...the nexus one selling more than you think. Here in Canada we have two providers that selling nexus mobilicity and videotron @ 49$ after 3y contract or 479 without... it came out in August for the first 3 months it's was sold out...both provider are pushing it really hard! Also it's being sold and in Europe Asia Australia so bottom line it's not because you guys in the U.S don't have it and because google stop selling it on the internet that it's not being sold any more... I'm sure they past the million sold mark...Long live the NexusOne !!!

Interesting. Yeah I was thinking same way. I don't get why google decided to sell the nexus one in stores just outside us.but they sold it only online here.its just kind of weird. I guess they never meant to have the nexus as a success her on the states. Cuz seriously a dev phone only available to the devs is legit. I'd say most of the apps that are available nowadays are from the us

Here is the BGR report you're talking about
I searched Google Reader and didn't turn anything up.. I would have starred it if I would have seen it come through, so my guess is the numbers haven't been officially released
1) This thread is clearly posted in the wrong forum.
2) I would be absolutely shocked if there were more than a few hundred thousand out there. Google made zero effort to market the device and only openly sold it for a few months, and it was un-subsidized which Americans hate.
I wouldn't say it was un-subsided. Google/Tmo sold it for $179 with a new contract...

This is probably true. I went to a Croma today (at Mumbai), they were out of stock and they would not comment on when and if new stocks would arrive. They didn't actually say that it's been discontinued, however even the display piece has been removed.
I enquired at our local TheMobileStore & they said that production had stopped & no further stock was expected.
Why would it be phased out to make way for the Nexus S. I thought the nexus was Manufactured by Samsung for Google so they don't actually sell it it's google phone to sell. It could just be though that in India the market appears to be moving over to purchasing the Nexus so its pointless selling the Galaxy there?
i bought mine on dec 15th 2010 . Guess i am one of the last set of lucky owners
Bought in HYDERABAD
But ya in many stores it was not there finally found it in PCH mobiles

This article is why I love Engadget and all of the posts. It can become quite entertaining at times and that thread is very heated. People are beyond pissed off and all Samsung can still say is "soon"? WHISKEY TANGO FOXTROT SAMSUNG! They should change the phone name to "The Daikatana 4G."

Samsung's about to make you it's b!tch!
Daikatana was actually released, you should use DNF as a reference instead.
EDIT how I wish Google did all the software work, the manufacturer just did hardware (and sometimes drivers), and the carrier just provided the service. It'd be like a real computer, and it would work.
Yeah, until we see an official ROM release from Samsung, their statement is nothing more than damage control for bad publicity. Their Twitter "support" was being bombarded with messages last night; it drew much attention from other tech sites. Samsung's next step is to come up with with an official (vague) excuse for the delay and then hope it tides the community over...
It's been half a year, promises are pretty shallow at this point.

Folks keep in mind this was pretty much a direct response to the accusations that they're charging for upgrades. I'm not saying I believe the response or that they haven't been awful at providing an update or adequate communication.
What I'm saying is you clearly have to make accusations to get a response (true or not).

Screw samsung. As much as I love my Epic 4G's hardware, all their support and the community is much smaller. I probably will never buy Samsung again. I might even sell it and eat the ETF once the new androids/windows come out with dual cores.

The problem is when Samsung and Sprint say ASAP it really just means "Another Sorry A$$ Promise."
I'm sorry everyone. I am the reason why we don't have Froyo yet. Let me explain. Every other smart phone I have ever had in the past 5 years on Sprint was an HTC phone. I went through 3 or 4 Moguls, 2 Touch Pros, and 3 Touch Pro 2s. I thought that since I had so any issues with HTC hardware I would try a different manufacturer so I got the Epic. Well.... It looks like the black cloud has followed me! Anyone want to pony up and buy me an iPhone? LOL I'd love to take this black cloud over there!
Well it is nice to hear Samsung open up and say something, but I sure am getting tired of getting the "details will come soon" BS from both Samsung and Sprint. We've been hearing "details will come soon" for more than 4 months. Perhaps we have different definitions of the word "soon."

I think with another other carrier releasing the 2.2 update for a SGS phone, it will put pressure on other carriers to follow. No longer can they say it's someone else's fault.
But honestly, I bet we'll see noobnl release an operational version of Gingerbread before we see Sprint push 2.2 out.

A glimmer of hope?

So i sent a email to HTC about DZ and ICS. And added a few lines about how they should think about a new qwerty-phone. And today i got this email:
Hello, thank you for contacting HTC last week.
I just want to give you a brief update. The proposal has been reviewed and has now been forwarded to the HTC department for research and development (R & D) in Taiwan. They will look at the possibility of creating a new product with a qwerty keyboard in the future.
HTC is grateful for your suggestion.
Have a nice day!
What do you think? Will we see a new qwerty-phone in the near future? HTC One Z maybe?

We'll get a successor eventually, when HTC deems the time right. They're always putting out keyboard phones, and wasn't the DZ at least a small success?

Not very comforting to me. This doesn't indicate any willingness to update OUR phone or take care of their existing customers. With this response, how do I have any comfort HTC will adequately update any future device I purchase from them. Secondly, this provides no incentive to stick with HTC if a better hardware keyboard became available elsewhere.
Very disappointing, specifically the inequitable treatment among two high end devices released at the same time.
