Will Galaxy Nexus be updated to 5.0?

Just came across this article that Google will be releasing not one, but up to five official Nexus devices sporting the new Jelly Bean 5.0 before the end of the year.
http://thedroidguy.com/2012/05/goog...w-android-5-0-on-five-different-nexus-devices
My question is, if I were to upgrade right now to the current Galaxy Nexus, do you think it will still be relevant enough to see a Jelly Bean update? Or will the Galaxy Nexus be old news by then? Should I wait and see what Google releases before upgrading? I just don't want to invest in a phone that will be considered outdated before the end of the year.

Nexus line usually gets at the very least one major OS update so it would be safe to say the gNex will see jellybean although it may be a little behind the newly released devices to help push their sales up prior to upgrading the older handsets

Re: (potential) 5.0 Key Lime Pie OS
I just got the Google nexus with the BRAND NEW jelly bean, which makes this post a little silly and indulgent... but when 5.0 does come out, whether it be Key Lime Pie or whatever, we should be in line to get that wouldn't you think?
I was just thinking about it it Idk. What do you guys think? will we? won't you indulge with me?
We will get it

no. nexus devices always get updates last :silly:
just kidding, nexus devices always get updates first. sometimes even before(rooted devices) if its available in aosp.
I'm not going to indulge because 4.1 just launched.
Any N7 owner doesn't care about 5.0 at the moment because it's almost guaranteed on newer Nexus devices including the N7 and no features have been announced.
No information = no excitement. More people will care when we hear something.

Depends on how big of a change there is from JB to the next os.

I have a feeling it will be 4.2, but it is definitely way too early to really tell anything.

I can't wait to get impatient about Android 6.0 coming out, I hope Android "Mawa Khoya Barfi" will be on the nexus 7 soon, before Christmas hopefully.
Next june?
I'd hold out for LM (Lemon Meringue) instead of KLP (Key Lime Pie)

iphone 5 with ios 6
It will be v5 just because they don't want to get too far adrift in the "my number is bigger than yours" stakes. Unless apple double down on the dumb and try the 'new iphone' route...
My guess, besides more integration with multiple android devices, is an enhanced launcher. Lot's more that could be done, and it gives even more clear blue water between Android and the old fashioned iphone app drawer.
Sort of funny we are already worrying about this, its breaking news these days when some devices are getting ICS!

Same it annoyed me when people were calling JB 5.0. There wasn't that much of a change from ICS.
The version number should only go up if the os is massively different from the previous version. Eg, gingerbread/honeycomb - ice cream sandwich.
Meh, sometimes it's just about grabbing some attention with carefully crafted version numbers. Like when my favorite Linux distro (Slackware) released ver. 13.37
lol at this thread.
Seriously can't begin to imagine what 5.0 would be like. Loving the improvements in JB at the moment.

Waiting 4.2..

Hi all,
we have just stopped to wait for the 4.1 Jelly Bean... and there are already some rumors about the 4.2 K release in November.
Do you think we will see an official 4.2 update for our Nexus S?
I'm guessing Key Lime Pie will be announced with the new Nexus phone(s) sometime before the end of this year. If you have a Nexus device then you will get the update eventually. That's the assurance of buying a Nexus phone*.
*Unless you bought a CDMA Nexus.
But really even if the Nexus S is a bit old, it would be a sad to see Google stops supporting it when the hardware is still capable.

I'm going to guess no.. Nexus S is EOL and Google has to stop wasting resources on it sooner or later and I'm going to guess 4.1.1 was just that. Android Police server logs show 4.2 running on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, and two other non-nexus devices. Nothing showing up for Nexus S running 4.2 though.
If this is the case, we can hope the drivers from 4.1.1 will be usable in 4.2.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
The current Android version for Nexus S (4.1.1) is too much bugged to be the last release. I expect a 4.1.2 or a 4.2 version. Or a Lumia 920.
I'd still like to think that my Nexus S will get the KLP update. After all, 4.2 is not that big an update from 4.1. If however, for some reason Google chooses to drop support for the crespo for that, I won't really blame them as the Crespo has definitely seen better days, and as a veteran for the Android cause, no one can say it hasn't been utilized to its fullest.

In my opinion Jelly Bean is, with high probability, the last update we will receive.
Anyway I don't think Google will announce another Android version since the 4.1 was release only 3 months ago!
Well,
This is just rumor

Someone's trolling Android Police's server logs. JOO92 is an invalid build number. Build numbers don't go higher than 90. JOO92 would be JOP02. Notice in the Android Police article, they show both JOO92 AND JOP02. Hmmm...sounds like someone realized the build number wasn't right, updated it, and hit the site again. This is total troll material.
Another piece of circumstantial evidence (though it may mean nothing)..."O" is a heretofore unseen branch identifier. We know "R" (like JRO03C, GRJ22, etc) is the release branch. We've also seen T (GTJ61), F (JFN53N), W (HWI69, GWK74), C (ICL53F), M (IML74K), and maybe a few others, but I don't think "O" is one that has been used before. Again, doesn't necessarily mean Google doesn't use it for something, but whatever.
The only point here is that the troll gave himself up with JOO92. Fail. BS.

I do not think it is "too much bugged", but there is still something not working properly...
As you said, it would not be so much good if JB 4.1.1 is the latest build for our Nexus S...
After just getting a Nexus 7 I'm even more convincing the Nexus S will never see 4.2.. Jellybean is absolutely amazing on high end hardware... Ermagerd! Love my Nexus S but I just had a reality check.

Yeah, Jelly Bean runs amazingly well on the Galaxy Nexus and the Nexus 7. It turned the Xoom into a brand new tablet. The Nexus S, not so much. You can tell the hardware has a hard time with it.

Incorrect. The Nexus One lost support with Ice Cream Sandwich. The N1's last official OTA from Google was Gingerbread, 2.3.6/GRK39F.

I think the Nexus S is done, but I'm happy with the two major updates we got (ICS & JB). We've gotta be thankful that the Nexus S/4G got more support over it's lifetime than most manufacturers do with their whole line of phones. :good:

GN8 specs ~ GN2 specs : Where is TW Rom 4.2.2 ?

Hi guys,
Why the galaxy note 8 receive Android 4.2.2 when the galaxy note is condamned to wait for 4.3 ?
Here is the question
because they want to push up the sales for note 3.
and if you think longer,it is better to get 4.3 than 4.2.2,because most devices only get 1 update, but i hope they will release it soon, because i want something new on my device..
We won't get any 4.3 update until samsung sells every last note 3 they have.
If we get lucky maybe they'll release the update by new year's. and they will call it "Premium Suite".
we won't get 4.2.2
we will get 4.3 like after 3-5 months meanwhile android 5.0 will be released :silly::silly:
all android manufacturers sucks in terms of updates , android 4.2.x released in November 13, 2012 and now its august 13 , 2013
yeah so cool OEM's are year late to google meh .-.
I wonder if the note 8 Rom could be ported to our n2.
Note 3 is confirmed by sammobile..so just hold ur breath and hope samsung rolls out 4.3 for note 2 also since note 3 will be 4.3 out of the box.but I think note 2 will receive 4.2.2 since note3 will b the first non-nexus device running 4.3 out of the box so Samsung wont update its outdated device very soon!

It's not about hardware anymore..samsung merely bumps the hardware of new phones..its all about the software and new features now..so gn3 will have many tweaks and features like air call and tons of hover expressions so they will make sure we dont get them till they sell enough gn3s coz then no one will buy their new device

Android 4.4 will be out soon , probably some time during IFA

http://www.android.com/kitkat/index.html
Well Google just announced android 4.4 KitKat. I wonder if Samsung will decide to skip the 4.3 upgrade for our phones and go straight to 4.4. If they do that even I will stop defending them when it comes to updates.
" I will stop defending them"....?...What if you get 4.4 soon directly.??

Not gonna happen mate.
S4 and Note 3 will get the update first.
S3 and Note 2: not before Q2 2014.
I'll come out when the new Nexus does. Probably October.
So far all I'm seeing for sure is an advertisement for Kitkat bars and android.com cobbling email addresses.
Where did you get the "Soon" part from?
5.0 KLP would be better for us b/c from 4.3 to 4.4 the new features will probably be less important than from 4.3 to 5.0.
