Hello! I thought I'd start this thread just to see what you guys think about the current devices getting 4.1.
It doesn't look like Samsung have been pushing ICS too hard after its initial update. Could it be possible that they're working on 4.1? It looks like hardware isn't an issue .
4.1 will come right with the note 2. And maybe with enough outcry of the comunity we will get it too but defenetly after the note 2 release. Thats how it's been in the past....
Tweets from SamMobile:
- Android 4.1 for Galaxy SIII #sgs3 Q3 2012.
- No information about Android 4.1 for SII and Note yet. Both devices will see Android 4.0.4.
-----------------
When you talk about the Note, they need to solve brick bug problems and then maybe think about the latest version of Android. If you look when the ICS update arrived, I wouldn't expect Jelly Bean soon. Even if it comes, it will be crippled by the Touch Wiz.
I guess that CM9 will pack all those goodies from JB 4.1.
Even if it doesn't get an official 4.1, the note will almost guaranteed get cm10. Nice they are at least giving us 4.0.4 though.

Don't want samsung to give us the Jelly beans. I am sure our developers like CM will surely get us one asap. Awaiting for the next release of CM10

That will be CM9.1 not 10. Android 5 will be CM10.
But yeah, i don't care if we'll get it official from Samsung or not. As long as our developers get it running on the Note, i'm all good.
Upgrade life cycle for Samsung is usually 18 months. The note was released in November 2011.
Jelly bean is being released to developers and operators in mid july, with first handsets and tablet (asus nexus 7) for release around October/November.
I reckon we'll get it as our final update. Pretty certain galaxy s2 is nearing the end of its update cycle around now.

More than possible in my opinion
Who else updates firmwares as much as samsung?
The note was one of the first device to have ice. Samsung do work.
But i guess haters are just going to complain.

Was cursed it didnt get ics.
Besides what is the point of complaining on the first day of its release when previous sold nexus phones didnt even get them

EVERY named android update has gotten a +1 CM number. Many of which are .1 updates.
It would be VERY odd if JB was not CM10, and against everything we have seen in the past.
ICS to Jellybean
If the kernel requirements is the same as ICS then Jellybean port should be quick and easy.
Cool! I am keeping up the hope with Samsung. The device has been out for less than a year, I really hope it gets updated officially.

Korean manufacturer Samsung has kept its mouth shut about Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update. Until now, there is no official word from the company which of its devices would be getting Google’s latest mobile operating system.
However, experts believe that the company is just trying to tease everyone who is intently waiting for the much anticipated update. Eventually, it will come before this year would be over, others say. Analysts also say that Android 4.1 Jelly Bean could become one of Samsung’s weapons to pose a competition with the upcoming Apple iPhone 5.
SamsungGalaxyS3
It is not a matter of whether GS3 will be getting Jelly Bean or not; rather, it is all about when the update would arrive. Being the most popular and best-selling smartphone, the manufacturer couldn’t just afford to leave its patrons in limbo. While there is no official word from Samsung yet, rumors and reports suggest that Galaxy S3 may be receiving an Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update via Samsung KIES or over the air in the last quarter.
Sam Mobile reported that the company might release information about Jelly Bean update this month or in September, at least, that’s the good news. On the negative side, other reports suggest Jelly Bean update for GS3 is pushed back to 2013. But then again, none of these reports were confirmed by Samsung.
But what do you think? Will it be this year or in 2013?
SamsungGalaxyS2
Samsung is reportedly testing Jelly Bean for Galaxy S2, however, there is no confirmation whether this handset will be getting the latest OS or not. The test is being conducted to determine whether Android 4.1 will run smoothly on the device without issues.
Galaxy S2 was originally released with Android 2.3 Gingerbread pre-installed and it was only just recently that it received a generous update to Ice Cream Sandwich. The porting of ICS was actually successful and the OS works like a charm on the device.
Considering the fact that Jelly Bean uses the fundamental architecture of ICS, there is a greater possibility that it will also run without issues on Galaxy S2. If the result of the test would be successful, GS2 owners may be able to receive the update in 4th quarter.
SamsungGalaxy Note
Being one of the premium devices from Samsung, Galaxy Note couldn’t just be left hanging with ICS on it. There is no information for now whether it would get the latest OS but if Samsung is testing out a Jelly Bean port for Galaxy S2, there’s a possibility it is also seeking to update this handset.
Originally released with Gingerbread out of the box, Galaxy Note performs perfectly with ICS after updates were rolled out. That should be enough to assume it could run Jelly Bean as well.
XDA Developers, a group of Android hackers who develop custom ROMs, have released a teaser showing Galaxy Note running on custom Jelly Bean OS, although they are still in the process of fine-tuning the firmware to work perfectly on Note’s hardware. The thing is, if third-party developers found a way to make the firmware run on the device, Samsung can too.
SamsungGalaxyNexus
Google started rolling out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean on July 11th with Galaxy Nexus HSPA+ as one of the luckiest devices to receive it first. The update was actually rolled out after the device was made available on Google Play Store following the court ruling to continue the sales of the said devices.
For the benefit of those who haven’t known yet, Samsung is in a nasty battle against Apple over patent infringement and Galaxy Nexus is one of the devices subjected to sales ban in the U.S. The Korean manufacturer, however, was able to convince the court to let the sales of Galaxy Nexus continue. Google did not waste precious time to promote the device with Jelly Bean.
SamsungNexusS
The Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update for Samsung Nexus S started rolling out on July 20th as reported by Gotta Be Mobile. During such time, many Nexus S owners also reported to have received notification about the update so Google actually kept its word.
For owners who have not received the update yet, it is advised they will contact their carriers for more information about the roll out. Some carriers have actually pushed back the update and many are still waiting until now. But the thing is the update is coming for Nexus S for sure.
Ina Nutshell
Jelly Bean is an incremental upgrade and it basically uses the architecture of ICS to deliver the features Google promised. That explains why it comes as Android 4.1 and not the rumored 5.0. Samsung is yet to provide information regarding Android 4.1 Jelly Bean update and the abovementioned devices are among the ones that would surely get the latest OS.

its said that all devices will receive updates for 18 months after release.
I highly doubt the S2 will receive it, I think the Note might just squeeze into that time frame.
Either way I dont care If I got JB I wouldnt be using it stock anyway, And im 100,000,000,000,000% sure we will get a stable JB Custom ROM Theres already a few in progress at the moment!
I think they will be releasing the Note 2 with JB (or should I say im hoping they will)
EDIT: The Note is easily capable of running JB smoothly, So lets hope Samsung know that !

Hi all,
we have just stopped to wait for the 4.1 Jelly Bean... and there are already some rumors about the 4.2 K release in November.
Do you think we will see an official 4.2 update for our Nexus S?
I'm guessing Key Lime Pie will be announced with the new Nexus phone(s) sometime before the end of this year. If you have a Nexus device then you will get the update eventually. That's the assurance of buying a Nexus phone*.
*Unless you bought a CDMA Nexus.
But really even if the Nexus S is a bit old, it would be a sad to see Google stops supporting it when the hardware is still capable.

I'm going to guess no.. Nexus S is EOL and Google has to stop wasting resources on it sooner or later and I'm going to guess 4.1.1 was just that. Android Police server logs show 4.2 running on Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 7, and two other non-nexus devices. Nothing showing up for Nexus S running 4.2 though.
If this is the case, we can hope the drivers from 4.1.1 will be usable in 4.2.
Sent from my Nexus S using Tapatalk 2
The current Android version for Nexus S (4.1.1) is too much bugged to be the last release. I expect a 4.1.2 or a 4.2 version. Or a Lumia 920.
I'd still like to think that my Nexus S will get the KLP update. After all, 4.2 is not that big an update from 4.1. If however, for some reason Google chooses to drop support for the crespo for that, I won't really blame them as the Crespo has definitely seen better days, and as a veteran for the Android cause, no one can say it hasn't been utilized to its fullest.
Posted using xda mobile app
In my opinion Jelly Bean is, with high probability, the last update we will receive.
Anyway I don't think Google will announce another Android version since the 4.1 was release only 3 months ago!
Well,
This is just rumor

Someone's trolling Android Police's server logs. JOO92 is an invalid build number. Build numbers don't go higher than 90. JOO92 would be JOP02. Notice in the Android Police article, they show both JOO92 AND JOP02. Hmmm...sounds like someone realized the build number wasn't right, updated it, and hit the site again. This is total troll material.
Another piece of circumstantial evidence (though it may mean nothing)..."O" is a heretofore unseen branch identifier. We know "R" (like JRO03C, GRJ22, etc) is the release branch. We've also seen T (GTJ61), F (JFN53N), W (HWI69, GWK74), C (ICL53F), M (IML74K), and maybe a few others, but I don't think "O" is one that has been used before. Again, doesn't necessarily mean Google doesn't use it for something, but whatever.
The only point here is that the troll gave himself up with JOO92. Fail. BS.

I think the Nexus S is done, but I'm happy with the two major updates we got (ICS & JB). We've gotta be thankful that the Nexus S/4G got more support over it's lifetime than most manufacturers do with their whole line of phones. :good:
Or will see the 4.2 key lime pie...?

Very likely the last update. Though, I have some hope that we will see a few more updates, since the S3 also has 1GB of RAM. :silly:
If the rumors are true, I think every phone is going to get key lime pie. Why? It turns every device into an instantly update able nexus device thanks to the rumored "customization center". This would give everyone the same base rom which would be updateable by Google, and then different oems would then need to update their "tweaks" (eg. Touchwiz, sense, etc). I think if Google has their way, as many phones will get this as humanly possible, since it would make their lives much easier and would shift much of the power the manufacturers have back to Google.
Apple innovates and Samsung copies, huh? Tell that to my Galaxy Note.
The JB update is the first Android update I've seen that acutally implements new funtionality on any handset I've owned save the iPhone. Hopefully this means that Samsung has "seen the light" and wants to give its customers a similar owner experience to iOS users.
I'll stay on the optimistic side and say that we'll se all upgrades until 5.0 arrives. :good: (Come on Samsung… Apple gives its users two full major version updates…)
-KJ
I think last major update for sure.
The reason why I ask is it seems Samsung seem to bringing a new phone or new model out nearly every other month like the s3 the note 2 the new nexus around the corner I just can't see how there gonna be able to keep on top of all these devices at once with new updates, but I'm sure with some great devs in this forum or note will prosper with afew more updates weather its official or not..

Australian carrier Telstra has received a confirmation that the Samsung Galaxy Note II 4G model will skip Android 4.2.2 and will be updated straight to the 4.3 Jelly Bean. It doesn't seem to be a regional thing either - all Galaxy Note II units might be treated that way.
Here is the official quote from Telstra's support page:
Samsung have elected globally to skip the 4.2.2 update for this device and will instead go to a newer version of Android. No schedule has been provided for this update.
We already know that Samsung Galaxy Note II will live long enough to taste the Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie, so owners shouldn't worry about the Android updates.
Meanwhile, Samsung still manages to keep the upcoming Galaxy Note III under wraps, but a picture taken with it popped up in Picasa yesterday. It hardly gives us much info, but it does confirm the device model number - N9005. This will most probably going to be the Snapdragon 800 version of the phablet with the revamped Exynos 5 powering the N9000 version.
The Note III will be announced on September 4 ahead of IFA in Berlin. It's expected to bring 5.7" 1080p Super AMOLED display and 3GB of RAM.

As of now we need to wait for the updates who follow official releases.. no matter what the time the manufacturers decide!

Camera improvement
I hope a big improvement in 4.3 camera quality because is the only thing I don't like in my SGN2. I don't know why the video is so perfect and the photos are blurred and the file size is so small even using the Snap Camera... :crying:
What update you N7100 users are sitting on? T-Mobile has 4.1.2.
You know I don't really care for 4.2.2 but there should be at least better options. Like the use of our big screen. It should be like the mega or more tablet like functions.
