I'm having a strange problem. Before I brought home my Iconia, my router (Netgear 3600) had been stable and running without crashes or a restart for months.
Now, if I leave my tablet in sleep mode, I return to find that although the tablet says it is still connected there is no Internet connection. Also, my other wifi devices are offline too. I have to restart my router to get a connection again.
Is it possible that my Iconia could be crashing my router?

I'm not saying it is, but it MIGHT be a coincidence.
There's not much a wifi client can do to to crash a router afaik. If your router doesn't like dlna/upnp then I suppose that could cause it to whack out, or if there are too many wifi clients on it...but I can't think of anything else.
What's the exact model of netgear? WNDR? DGN? Also, are you still connected locally? Can you ping the router but just can't get to the net? What about a wired connection? If you can get to the router with a wired connection, login to it's admin page and see if you see any errors. Also check for a firmware upgrade on the router.
With my old linksys router I had similar problems. Turns out that you can overwhelm it with connections and when it runs out of resources it's routing is jammed. Maybe you have some app on the a500 that creates too many connections and if your router is on the edge (e.g. your other computers are running torrent software) it might crash.
Or it could be a totally different problem .

Resolved, I think...
Thanks for your feedback!
It is Netgear wndr3700v1. The problem appears to be resolved by upgrading to the latest firmware (which has caused other problems, but resolved this one).
Although I've usually found Netgear to be reliable, they really dropped the ball on the 3700 routers. My four-year-old modem was more reliable and as fast. Unfortunately, I gave it away before I discovered all of the issues with the Netgear unit...

Tell that to my combo DSL modem / wireless / router I had before I got a Wii. As soon as the Wii was installed the router would do EXACTLY what the OP describes. I ran with the Wii unplugged for a week and it never crashed. Within 2 hours of connecting the Wii back to the wireless it would crash the router.
I disabled the wireless on the router and replaced with a commercial grade D-Link and had no more problems.
This issue has been posted several times. I have searched most threads but didnt get right answer. I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 and Google nexus 7. I could connect both at home and at work to wifi and then to network. But for the last 1 week I am unable to connect to internet at home. There isnt such problem with laptop and Ipad at home. I had this problem with my galaxy s2 in the past, when it was only android device at home. I didnt give much attention at that time as it used to sort itself on its own. I mean to say though the network connectivity behaviour is erratic it didnt bother me much as I have other devices to use to connect to internet. I am posting this now to highlight this problem with android and some great soul will sort this out forever. I dont think it is a problem with router as this happened to several people with different brands of routers. As suggested by somebody, I have tried the Wifi fixer app, with no success. My galaxy S2 is not modified, but nexus 7 is rooted.
I had the same problem. I fixed it by setting my router to only do B/G instead of B/G/N. This means I can only get max 54kps, but so what. I was only getting a bit better than that before.
Hope this helps!

It takes two to Tango.
I had the symptom you describe on a 3 year old Android phone, while with the same router, no problem with Macs, Windows PCs, and iPod Touch devices. The Android phone could associate and authenticate ("connect") to the router, but it would never get an IP address via DHCP.
What was the solution? I updated (flashed) new firmware to the router.
Interop problems happen all the time with WiFi gear; it's unfortunate but true. I mention the above example because the symptoms seemed to point to the Android device as being the "trouble", and yet the fix involved changing software on the router side of things. And that's entirely the point - when bugs occur, they occur between TWO software stacks. Router firmware can have "latent" bugs that require client devices to deviate just a little bit before they occur, and the same thing is also true with the software stack on the Android device.
In general, you have more knobs to fiddle with on the router than you will have on the Android phone/tablet, and the more variable the behavior of the router is, the more likely bug expression between the two software/hardware stacks becomes. So - as with the suggestion of the above respondent - if you want to experiment, try turning off non-essential features on the router such as multiband, proprietary channel bonding or "turbo" modes, beacon suppression, etc. Simplify things and see if the problem disappears.
good luck
thank you

I had the same problem, repeated on two different GS4 phones today. I tried everything possible to figure out what was wrong but couldn't fix the problem. The phones would connect to my wireless router, but would send and receive data only intermittently. Sometimes, resetting the router, or pulling the phone's battery, or going into airplane mode would be the only ways to get the phone to actually send and receive data, but it would only work for 20 seconds - 3 minutes. Every other wireless device and wired device works on this router, except for the GS4. And the GS4s both worked in-store on their wireless network. My guess is that it's a hardware or software compatibility issue with certain routers. Oh and mobile data worked like a charm.
What kind of wireless router do you have?
Maybe you need to pay your internet bill

My S4 has the exact same problem on a DLink 655. Works ok on other networks I have tried but on the DLink it will work for about 20 seconds and then data stops flowing. No other device I have has any issues.
To figure out whether the issues is the SGS4 or the SGS4<>your router you really need to try it from some different locations. The i9100 had tons of issues with D-Link routers so perhaps that's what's happening here. My solution when I had issues with my i9100 was to ditch D-Link forever and move to NetGear and I haven't had a problem since (at least at home).

My router is a DIR-655 as well. Looks like this may be an actual issue with D-Link routers? Anybody having issues with another brand of router?
And if it IS an issue with D-Link, who's at fault for the problem? Samsung or D-Link? My 655 has been the most reliable piece of network equipment I've ever owned. It works with everything, except for a Galaxy S4...this is annoying.

glad i still have my unlimited data plan. no real reason to click the wifi button... most wifi spots i go near are more bogged down & slower than the s4 lol

yeah i actually got my phone 2 days ago and right out of the box had this problem, i was on other sites saying that the s3 i900 had alot of those issues on 4.2 and 4.2.1 jellybean.. lots of users reporting that when the upgraded to 4.2 ect they started having those issues.. i hope its a jellybean issue not hardware issue.. i agree with you though i have had my d-link 655 for years and never had an issue till now.. i have my s3 and iphone 5 all running on my dlink just fine S4 not so much..
Same problem here - excelent connection at 150 Mbps with my dlink dir-855, but dies quickly. wifi toggle helps. Tried a lot of settings, fixed ip/dhcp, 2.4 / 5 Ghz and etc - problem persists.
i have TP-LINK router but i drained my battery till phone went off then charged till 100% and no issues so far wifi works fine... just wondering why this problem could appear...
Seems like I've found the solution - in router settings, in firewall section disabled "TCP Endpoint Filtering" (set from "Address Restricted" to "Endpoint Independent"). Have not had any issues since than. But can't actually tell if it puts the network to any risk compared to previous settings.
i have also different problem
everything seems good but i have a big problem with wi fi but
when i try it with s2, it is working
whenever i want to access internet with wi fi on s4, in Wi fi menu, it writes -----> in order
1) "Obtaining ip adress..." and later
2)saved,secured
3)Obtaining ip adress...
4)failed to obtain ip
5)newtwork disabled becauseinternet connection is low
my modem's security is WPA*Wpa2 psk
and my modem model is

Samsung galaxy s4 wifi issues
I have the same problem, seems to be a wifi issue with 4.2.2, my router is DIR 655 Dlink, wifi only works if I just connected it then its either slow or disconnects. very frustrating, also I get 3G but its slow.
A family member just got a S4 and is facing the same issue with the DIR655.
I've updated firmware to latest version for my A4 hardware model, version 1.35ww but the problem persists. So I had to bring out another Access Point (TP-Link TL-MR3020)to cater to his needs...
So who should we complain to? the DLink has been serving me faithfully for the past 3 years+, infact the DIR655 was one of the best wireless routers around and I never an issue with any of my wireless toys, until it met the S4...

Can you confirm that this fix works for a lengthy period of time? Is it still working? I thought I had fixed mine once (the phone was working for a while) and then it just stopped transferring data altogether. I think tinkering around with some things can make it better or worse, depending on what it is.

Same here. I was contemplating replacing my 655 after 6 years of service without ever having to reset it only because it will not pass magic packets from WAN to LAN...at least the A versions don't (I have A2). And this is becoming more of a frequent problem as of late. Every other device connects without issue, even my mom's S2. I'm on WiFi right now on my HTC Vivid...no problems.
Which brings me to this...everybody in this thread with a 655, please list your hardware version and firmware version. It can be found at the top of the router's web interface page.
Mine is..
Hardware Version: A2
Firmware Version: 1.34NA

Guys, I'm having the ugly Wi-Fi problems that many other Samsung users have had but don't want to dump my phone or leave Samsung. I'm seeing this reportined on nearly all of the latest Samsung phones but my Skyrocket II no problems worked great 4.1.2 - basically its the one where the phone connects to the router and but won't transmit data over the connection but cellular works fine.
Using literally every work around seems to give me 3-5mins of browsing and then I get dumped from my router; does anyone know the real permanent fix? I've seen other phones suggest rooting the phone and dumping earlier build files for Wi-Fi but wanted to check the pulse of the Samsung Android nation before I dump my phone tomorrow since I'm well within the 30-day window.
BTW - Powersaving mode is enabled....so far works "ok" without it on ~ spoke to soon sluggish as hell.

My son has the same problem with his S4. My S3 has no problems with our WIFI. I think you are on a D-LINK router. And that seemes to be the problem. If you connect to,for example, a Linksys router, your connection should work.
Try to connect to a different router at a friends house for instands.
Good luck !!!

WOW...called it D-Link DIR-655 to be exact...its the WPA security which is the culprit...after playing with my settings I got in on auto everything including duel wpa/wpa2 but TKIP not AES. Works like a champ at 54 Mbps on TKIP but AES 65 Mbps dies every time ~ and it only took reaming out ATT and swapping my phone to come home and troubleshoot it more, LOL.
Thanks for follow up but I'm sure if you tweak your router or by a new one like I might since you've confirmed my thoughts (although this thing has worked better than any Linksys I've ever owned!).
Thanks good luck back to you and your son!
Hi Folks,
I have been postponing this post but nothing ive seemed to do has worked. I THINK after i rooted my issues started. I am unable to browse the net or anything when connected to my wifi. I have reset the router, forgotten and rejoined the network with no avail. All my other devices do not have this issue. Im not really sure what else to say so maybe some of you gurus could pick my brain. Though this is a wifi only issue and on this network. When connected to other networks im fine. My setup is as follows. I have a hard line going from the router the ISP provided in the other end of the house to the router in my room. Like i said my phone is the only device that has issues on this network.
thanks in advance.

That's a pretty strange issue, not sure there is going to be much help... I've had some strange, random issues with my S5. I had issues with wireless, xposed and some other apps after rooting the first time. I got tired of it and used Odin to reflash the stock firmware, then performed a factory reset and rooted afterwords. I haven't had any problems at all after doing this... In all honesty, that's the route I would go if I were you. Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, hope you get sorted out

Can you reset the settings in the router via your pc?
Try connecting standing right next to the router. I had this issue with my Note 2 and it ended up being a physical issue with the wireless chip or antennas. It's actually the reason I'm not on a S5.
Not that u want to hear this, but I had to replace my router for the same reason. My router would only pick up certain devices, had to do with hardware and firewall security settings.

First and foremost you have to isolate the issue to either ur phone or the router. In order to do that its very simple.... can you connect to wifi outside of your house like starbucks or friends wfii? If the answer is yes than the issue lies solely with your router. Let me know what you find out and I can help guide you <---- systems administrator Also please provide the make and model of your router as well as your modem and your ISP.
EDIT: I just read the line where you talk about having another router in your room. I can already tell you this is probably NOT an issue with your phone but rather your setup. The secondary router must be setup as a repeater or bridge OR on a different subnet. This gets very tricky for average home user and I do not recommend you tackle it on your own. Also your main router has to be able to play nice with the secondary and if it's one provided by your ISP it's probably a POS. Also your phone is probably not the only device having issues with this setup.... its the only one you are noticing having issues. Android OS is very sensitive to weird wifi setups and anything out of the norm will set it off. It's actually a great tool in diagnosing wifi issues.

Hi there thanks for the reply. Yes i can connect to any other router without issue. The router is my Router Info:
Name N300 Wireless Router
Model F9K1002v5 (01B)
Firmware 5.00.15(Nov 1 2013)
Serial No. 12349GC2508237
Boot Loader 0.12
I use my tablet and other pcs within this wifi. It is under a different subnet as well. (i think so been a while since ive done any networking) The main router that comes in has the standard IP 192.168.1.1 and the IP for my router in my room (basically set up like this since my room is quite far and gets bad signal from the main router, Cable in -> Main Router -> Hardwire hooked into a port -> ethernet run to my room -> Connected to a port on the wireless router) 192.168.2.1. My ISP is Optimumn Online. My wifi was working fine until about 10 mins ago. seems to happen so often. I did change the security a while back to TKIP + AES on the router and made sure it was the same on the phone and it was working fine for days until like i said about 10 mins ago.

This leads me to think that perhaps the router (however old or new) may have a setting, or an actual limit, on how many devices connect to it.
If not that, perhaps if you rooted, and tried removing bloat, you may have been a bit overzealous and removed something related to WiFi and are now having this issue as a result.
I have only removed the list of apps and bloat that have been posted on Ricks Rom HERE. The ONLY problem I have seen since removing this list, was that I can no longer access PhotoVault correctly. Gives me an error saying that it has no connection to the database, but my 4G is working fine at the time as I was downloading via steam and streaming a movie, and playing a PC game at the same time...

You have the right setup with a different subnet. It's possible the main router is assigning the same IP address that your router has to another device. It would be best if you picked up another router that has repeater capabilities and set it up in repeater mode. Also reserve an IP address for your router from the main router to avoid IP conflicts.
Another possibility is simply the wifi on your router is deteriorating and it's time for a replacement. I recommend the Netgear Nighthawk R7000 if you don't mind spending the $$$. If your on a bit of a budget the Netgear N900 (WNDR4500v2) is the next best thing that supports repeater mode.
well its been still working intermediary. I have to unplug the router and plug it back in then i can browse the net on my phone. idk if id like to lay out that kind of money for a new router. there has to be something else thats causing it. i set the router to reboot everyday, also my phone. its odd though. sometimes it works sometimes it dosent.
