Is there anyway possible to access this phone on a Mac? I have tried so many options, and the only one available is wirelessly. Anyone else able to get the phone to recognize when plugged in via USB? I don't have a memory card in it but I don't feel that should matter.
Thanks for help in advance.

Have you tried AFT? Android File Transfer
If you want to sync iTunes...try iSyncr
Both work great on my rMBP and my S4.....
kies works too
The problem is getting my Mac to recognize that the SG4 is plugged in. It charges but doesnt detect. USB debug is on but I still get nothing.
Installed latest kies on my mac, connected both my s4 and mac to same wifi but kies wifi on my phone doesn't see my laptop...

i have been trying to connect my nexus to my Mac for about an hour now. it recognizes that it is hooked up to the USB, but i can't mount it.
anybody know how i can alleviate this issue

If it shows up on your desktop or in the finder then it is mounted.
Edit: you mean the phone sees that it is hooked up?
Mounts fine for me with my iMac. Just plug it in and on the phone choose to mount via USB. Then bobs your uncle.

reboot both. the only kernel panics (5 in 8 years) i've seen are from a corrupted sdcard and disk utility trying to interfere.
more information in your post would help.
Hi All,
This is my first Samsung Device after many Years of using Android specifically HTC devices.
I have a couple of issue firstly when I need to transfer files between my pc and my Phone storage. is there a quicker way to just plug in the phone to pc and enable USB mode rather than having to disconnect and click the usb mode button then connect the cable? It is very inconvenient and annoying having to first disconnect the cable then reconnected when the tells you to. On my previous HTC devices its very straight forward and painless.
Secondly is downloading files on the phone, I was trying to download an avi file but it was cancelled because the file was not compatible with my Phone, just this morning I was trying to download the New market APk from the XDA attachment link but the phone will not download it due to the file not being compatible with my phone. I have never had this problem before with my HTCs, never before.
Can anyone advice as these issues are making me want to go back to HTC seriously...
Turn usb debugging on and make sure you have a app installed that can handle apks.

Thanks for that, Usb mode works fine now. How ever what do you mean by an app that can handle APK? id this because I do not have root access? Because I transfered the apks manually and can install them.
Astro, rootexplore or something like that.

I didn't think not having Mass Storage USB would suck this much. Just about every large file I transfer errors out.
This is a huge problem.
This happening to anybody else?
Fixes?
Is your SDcard formatted in fat32? I saw that with a 32GB thumb drive that I had.
What is the suggested large file compatible format to use with Android?
Card is FAT32.
I can't even put the files on phone storage.
Camera mode does the same thing.
define what you consider a large file and i will see if my phone has the same trouble.
I can transfer data from the phone to pc via usb connect but can't go the other way.
I can't transfer data from the pc to the phone via usb connection.

are you using the usb cable that came with the phone or an aftermarket cable?
i had this problem before with an aftermarket cable that was solved by using my usb cable that came with the phone. I couldnt tell you why one worked and the other didnt though.
fat32 will not take files above 4GB its just not possible you prbly need to reformat your memory card inside of your gs3
I'm having the same problem - I am using an old samsung usb cable though. I can't get the picture files off of the phone via ptp nor can I get the usb mtp driver to install. I'll have to try when I get home to use the cable it came with. I'm wondering if the port on my s3 might be bunged a bit too.

No, it's the cable - I'm thinking the pinout changes for MHL are making it touchy about old cables.

Might have to stick with transfering via kies air for a bit until I confirm that idea..
I can transfer little files back and forth but anything over 400mb or so gets about half way and fails.
I have not had any trouble with the WebSharing app on the market even with very large files...

Only the exFAT format is able to accept files larger than 400 mb. FAT32 will not work.
*I meant 4000 mb, my bad.

Not sure what's going on. I just transferred a 700 mb file to the phone and then back to the computer without any trouble. This was using the cable that came with the phone on windows 7 64 bit home premium.

Use a USB cable or send files over WiFi using "Air droid" app.

That's like saying "take the train" to someone that has car trouble and can't get to work--not very helpful. What if they need to use bluetooth due to lack of USB cable or a wifi-capable computer? I know it's not probable, but the bluetooth capability is there and should be able to be used if desired, even if it's not the fastest data-transfer method.
I too, have the same problem, though just two days ago I was able to send files.
Can't help you much as I got Windows 8 and Ubuntu.
But I had this kind of problems often on Windows 8, I had to unpair (from device and phone) then pair them again, each time I had to switch from Linux to Windows.
Anyway, to send files by Bluetooth from windows, try this:
Right-Click on the file
Then Send to
And choose Bluetooth Device
I never opened the storage card of my nexus from bluetooth on my PC, I think the connection is not very stable.
This is getting frustrating. Have the Sprint Samsung Galaxy S4 completely stock in black. My girlfriend has the white one. We can't connect either one via USB to transfer songs and such. So far I've installed the driver, reinstalled them, formatted and did it all over again with no luck. The computer just continues to make the noise that it does when you connect a USB device. Sometimes it'll do it 20 times in a row or so. Never successfully recognizes the device.
This is my first time having this type of issue with an Android although I've never owned a Samsung before. Mostly HTC devices. Any help would be appreciated. I've done searches on the forum and didn't have much luck.
Q: How do I connect my S4 to the computer so I can transfer some songs to it.
If you end up rooting your s4 usb mass storage enabler on the market helped me get my tablet to recognize my s4. Other than that I'm not sure why your computer isn't recognizing it. Good luck!

It's definitely weird. I have friends with the phone who didny even need to install the drivers. Unfortunately we only have the one pc.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 4 Beta
If you have any drivers from previous phones try uninstalling them. Even htc sync has caused problems in the past. I'm no expert by any means but I've troubleshooted plenty.

Try a different cable and definitely try a different USB port. Sometimes windows gets messed up and won't accept a new device on the same port.

Tried that. Even reformatted. I've been through about 5 cables. I doubt that's the issue. I actually reformatted again last night.
I use Airdroid for all of my file transfers. It's fast but requires wifi.

This has been my only issue with S4. Kind of frustrating but I know there has to be a solution to transfer files via usb. I almost wonder if it has something to do with my hardware. It's pretty standard though.

Ok so an update on this issue. Still haven't came up with a solution.
Since my last post we've moved from Sprint to T-Mobile. Decided to stick with the S4. New phone with the sane exact issue. Reformatted, reinstalled drivers.
She also got a new laptop and wouldn't you know it both phones work perfect without installing drivers or anything.
I'd really like to track this down so I'm going to give as much detail as possible.
Both phones are stock.
Both work on her laptop. Neither will work with my PC.
I've gone to thr device manager and manually updated the driver. The comp recognizes my phone by name. On a good day I can browse. It'll still randomly reconnect so transfers are impossible.
The computer has 8 usb 2.0 ports. I've tried them all. We have quite a few micro usb cables. Tried them all.
It still feels like a driver issue. Possibly some kind of issue with my motherboard? Why haven't I had an issue with anything else? Would a dedicated usb card make a difference?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
